Hello hello, our posts seem to be getting further and further apart, for which I apologies. The Intothefray and Chimp DAB collectives have been very busy in recent months programming and playing at parties across the capital. (Check photos below to see what you missed.)

Anyway, next Friday, wer're at it again with a Smack & Tickle Spectacular. With a fancy dress theme, a Zombie Makeup bar, Hammer Horror showing all night and some BIG surprises, this is one not to be missed:

BUBBLE and BASS

This friday we have something very exciting in store for all you beat fiends. NYC's bassline institution Trouble & Bass is coming to The Brixton Dex Club in the form of label head honcho Drop The Lime (pictured left.) There has been alot of excitement surrounding this event, in recent weeks, so much so that Time Out have classified it within their critics choice section and written a preview on it. Here's what they said...... Exciting times etc. As the article says, joining DTL on the wheels of steel will be recent T&B guests and general flavor du jour, Tomb Crew, Superfilth!!! residents Oli DAB & Robin and of course the bubblin' residents Solid Gold & Park Ranger and Nick Mathews. This is going to be one monster party, and if you haven't been down to Dex before what are you playing at? They've got a shitting hot tub on the roof over looking the whole of London...its mental.

This just dropped through the inbox this morning. Its a minimix/sampler for a new label called 'Tragic Magic'. There isn't much information floating around about it at the moment, but I can tell you that it has been set up by two of the Machines Dont Care Crew, Trevor Loveys, Affie Yusuf and Chris Belsey who has had releases on Loungin Recordings.

Interestingly they descibe the fruits of this project as sounding like 'a seagull getting a good shafting.'

This weekend is going to be big! On Friday night we have the launch party for Fly Music's new weekly party, 'Juggle,' at the Legion, Old Street. Alongside resident and Fly Music founder Bryce, will be yours truly. This party is going to be one genre busting musical magimix, perfect for those of you who like to get on the tables in clubs and gyrate to some guilty pleasures. This boy in going to be big. Foamo aka Kye, is a 20 something producer from High Wycombe whose ability to produce banging house tunes has caught the attention of some hugely influential heads in the industry. Due to this, his infectious production 'Moving it over here,' and his remix of Primary One's 'Hold Me Down'have been battered by the likes of Kissy Sellout, Detboi, Andy George and well, yours truely.

Next Thursday, I am pleased to announce that Ninja Tune will be hosting a BBQ at the newly refurbished Dex club in Brixton. If you've never been to Dex then this is an opportunity not to be missed. With quality sound downstairs and a huge roof terrace with soundsystem, hot tub, morrocan chilling tents and the best views in South London, this is a very special venue, and you can check out their website here.

The venue aside, you'll also be subjected to some truly quality music. New Ninja signing John Matthias, who featured on Coldcut's 'Man in a Garage,' will be performing an acoustic set on the roof alongside Kid Twist, acoustic side project of Greco Roman's signing Drums Of Death, whose been causing quite a stir of late. Then Ninja's finest Bryce from Fly Music, will be filling the gaps with his irresistible mix of disco, funk and soul.

Downstairs keeping it bumpy we have the man formerly known as Zilla, King Cannibal, Ninja Head Honcho and Coldcut front man, Jon More and one very special international guest DJ, whose identity I unfortunately have to keep secret.

So check this out for a recipe for disaster (in a good way):

The Mystery Jets write 'Hideaway.' In my opinion their best track to date.

This is subsequently given the old spit and polish by Erol Alkan.

In turn, Dave Taylor gives it the 'Switch' treatment, making it not only an alternative rock/pop/indie anthem, but also a hugely anticipated dance-floor destroyer.

Now, Diplo has done a re-edit of a Switch remix of a track produced by Erol Alkan originally written by The Mystery Jets. I think that, regardless of sales, suggests that the original song is pretty special. Mind you in re: the Diplo re-edit, it is literally just a 'hand clap.' Oh well, still a heavy tune.

BPITCH CONTROL, BERLIN

BPitch is a Berlin based label founded and partially run by the prestigious Ellen Allien. I presume that most of you who have just read this opening sentence will now be expecting a post focused towards the minimal beeps and bleeps that in recent years Germany and in particular Berlin has become famed for. Those of you who made this presumption to some degree are right, however, what I would like to primarily focus upon, is the diversity that Bpitch Control offers.

Linked below is a track off Ellen's fourth solo album 'SOOL,' (buy) and it illustrates the more predictable (I don't mean this in a negative way) side of the label. Ellen describes her new album as;

”SOOL is everything, everyone and none – SOOL is a phantasm, a creation, which reflects the album’s atmosphere, and also my person. I am me; but I am also what you made me for, what you do with me and what I do with you. And, SOOL is curiosity, room, and architecture. Sketches; drawing; adhering.”

On the other side of the label, (this is where the contrast within the label is revealed,) is Modeselektor.

Modeselektor are also Berlin based, but offer a very different sound and recently won the title of 'Best Dubstep & Grime Act' at the BMA 2008 Awards. However its hard to pigeon hole their sound as precisely as this. On their 2007 Album 'Happy Birthday,' there are strong techno and electro influences (which nods to the tech/dubstep scene thats taking the UK by storm) and it features a vast array of guest artists: From TTC to Thom Yorke, Siriusmo to Maximo Park, this album plays host to quite the all-star cast. This album is compulsive listening and to get a taster of it, here's my favourite track from the album, 'Suckerpin.' Enjoy.

Three very good/different tracks for you this week.

First up, the first track from DJ, blogger and general music lover 'Bryce.' Bryce runs a blog called 'Fly Music' with Telemachus from 'Black Forrest Ghetto.' I believe this is the first track he's produced, and to be honest, the boy dun good. Theres a nice combination of sounds within the track which flicker between digital bleeps and analogue beats......hence the name 'Atari Riddims,' you see what he's done there.

Next up, relatively new from DFA, or new for me at least, Holy Ghost! I think that this New York duo have a great disco sound, typical or what DFA stands for today, and I look forward to seeing them when they make it to the UK. Its not new, its just a heavy tune.

Finally, a nice bit of techno to finish off your bank holiday. Vitalic is a producer famed for several monster tracks, although I believe this one to have been somewhat overlooked. Distorted synths, driving bass line, catchy twiddly bits, this is a 4am 'hands in the air stomper,' which if you find yourself at a techno rave at such a time, you'll be quite grateful for.

Bag Raiders are from Australia and have done some good remixes - I especially like their remix of Super Mal's track 'Bigger Than Big'.

I don't know the original, but a little research tells me that it features somebody called Luciana and is Track 18 of CD2 on 'Now [That's What I call Music] 67'. Good. Times.

Santogold, she's great. See mention of her Old Blue Last Show below... L.E.S. Artistes, well, it's probably going to be this year's 'Umbrella Song'. The chorus sounds absolutely fantastic, and the whole tune is hard to shake from my head.

Here is a mix that I found ripped off Mary Anne Hobbs' Experimental show. Although the lady sold out and did the voice over for those mouth watering M&S adverts, she has got very interesting taste in music, and im a big fan of her show, the last one of which you can stream here. Anyway this is a Rusko mix taken from her show. Rusko is one of my favorite dubstep producers, the reason being that I respect his lack of pretention in a scene thats riddled with it. I also like the fact that some of his productions really break the dubstep mold. This is clearly evident in his reworking of Adele's Cold Shoulder, which he gave the ruff-stuff treatment to relatively recently. The result? An absolute blinder of a tune, which im hammering out over and over in my sets these days. If your feeling this mix then you should go out and buy the Fabriclive 37 compilation which he did with label mate Caspa, as its pretty much the definitive guide of what 'jump-up dubstep should be about.

Flava Of The Week

So, last night was the much anticipated Santogold UK Album Launch at the delightful Old Blue Last. After being hailed as 'the new MIA,' I was intrigue but skeptical to see if this was to be the case. Don't get me wrong though, everything I had heard up until that point, I had liked: The reggae infused 'Shove It,' the avant-garde tunings of 'Creator' and the sheer accessibility of 'Les Artistes' seemed to me to be the basis for a strong album. So why oh why did the promoter in charge of sourcing a venue, decide to stage the launch at TOBL? Sure its uber trendy, and of course the audience was very much a whose who of credible London & American producers, DJs and the like, but quite frankly this doesn't compensate for the embarrassing quality of sound. Maybe i'm becoming a snob in my old age, but there must have been other options?!

Regardless of this petite rant of mine, she was great. Every track I heard was performed incredibly well, with the attitude and conviction that any artist up against MIA must have, and during the finale that was 'Creator,' that grimey, stinking, hot old pub properly moved. I look forward to seeing her over festival season, and I strongly recommend you go buy her album, as I think for me it will be quite the summer soundtrack. Also of interest, Dave "Switch" Taylor who has produced both MIA and Santogold has also announced that he will be heavily involved in the fourth coming Coldcut album due to drop early next year.

But now down business. Here's a selection of tunes, some old some new, that are currently doing it for me this week.

I would love to be able to tell you a little bit about '8otto', but their myspace is all in Japanese, which, to be honest has proved problematic. However they're signed to BMG Japan, their tunes are banging and I would have thought that its the kind of sound that makes the A&R department at Kitsune wobbly at the knees. Imagine Depeche Mode but heavily distorted and chopped to pieces and your beginning to get the picture. Their a band i'd love to see, just because of the energy they put into their tunes, and by the looks of things their performance. Mental mentality with dance dynamics. However, Britain's finest has done the dirty on this, and actually cleaned it up to some degree. The result? A relatively uncharacteristic house tune. Herve is definitely a producing talent to be reckoned with, and this choice cut proves that their's more to his production skills than the anthems he's most famed for.

Ozero (Herve's Hypnotherapy Remix) // 8otto

Next up we have a new collaboration between Dave Nada and Matt Nordstrom, who are cunningly collaborating under the name 'Nadastrom'. Its early days for this collaboration, however they've got some big tunes, and this remix of Estelle's 'American Boy' is chunky, but in case you hadn't noticed I literally have a fetish for a garage-esque 'wobble.' Regardless, this'll get a graveyard dancing. Clearly influenced by the UK bassline scene, and the likes of Drop The Lime and the rest of the Trouble & Bass crew, these guys havn't wasted any time in getting noticed, and are due to have a release on Dubsided later in the year.

American Boy feat. Kanye West (Nadastrom Remix) // Estelle

Ninja Tune's Canadian signing Ghislain Poirier is an electronic producer who toys with grime influences with regards to tempo and content but strips it back to produce a much cleaner product compared to the UK's equivalent. The result of this is a highly polished production, which somewhat reminds me of the productions of orgasmic and Para One, who of course before they embarked DJ stardom were better know for producing French filth-mongers, and label mates TTC.

Bomb The Blocks Feat. Ms. Persia (Ghislain Poirier Remix) // Bassnectar

Penultimately, here is a track with some of the most shameless sampling you'll probably hear. I got this from Mad Decent, and it has an irresistible charm that you can't help but smile to. Featuring none other than X-Bonde Do Role front lady Marina, thats about all you can say about this track. Enjoy.

So, its been a while. And for that we can only apologise. Things have been seriously hotting up as we plot our next audio assault on London, but believe when I say there are gona be some treats towards the end of the year.

The true full scale launch of TROUBLE VISION is progressing rapidly, and is set to commence on the 19th September in our beloved Corsica Studios. Expect the unexpected across not one, not two, but three rooms. Several big names have confirmed which takes the figure of performing artists to over 20......pretty, chock, a, block you may say.

Anyway, enough of this mad hype, and down to business. Over the last few months i've been planning on Ninja Tune's behalf, the launch party for Daedelus' forthcoming album 'Love To Make Music To.'

Its out 7th June on Ninja Tune, and I can honestly say its a true pleasure to listen to. Folk orientated electronica combined with light hearted vocals set the tone for a mouth watering summer album. However, from my experience of Daedelus, this style although featured, makes up by no means the beef of his live sets. Though the application of a gadget called a 'monome' (pictured) and a laptop, he has the ability to sample, loop and re-edit live. From the live sets i've heard its shitting heavy, and I cannot wait to see it done live. So come check it out. 23rd May, Corsica Studios, Elephant & Castle, London. Also playing will be Cadence Weapon (Live,) Rustie, King Cannibal (Zilla,) Etan (Live,) Capitol K (Live,) Patchwork Pirates, The Correspondents (Live,) Fly Music's Bryce, This & That and Oli DAB & Robin. Also on the bill is Rustie. You don't come across many Glaswegian musicians who describe their sound as "Tropical/Folk/Trance" but there you go. His sound has also been described as dubstep, hip hop, aqua-crunk but whatever genre you choose to put him within, made up or not, Rustie is killing it, and has the hip hop community on their knees.....noshing. Check out nis new EP too, released on Stuff Records, which he's collaborated on with with California MCs Buddy Leezle and Cerebral Vortex from 215 The Freshest Kids, to produce a record "inspired by the two Ds - Drexciya and Dilla."

A Bay Bay (Rustie Re-Edit) // Hurricane Chris

Opening the evenings entertainment we have The Correspondents who will be busting the doors down with their home brand of '1930's Hip Hop.' Check the picture, its all very clever. MC Ratty B and DJ Chuckles have been playing and producing together for some time now and in their own words produce "lyrical and jazzy tunes that bounce like hip hop. They are intricate, but are woven together with a pervading humour." Check it out, if your not tapping your foot by the end of it, your probably dead.

On a less promotional note, here are three tunes that are killing it for me at the moment. The first encompasses everything I love about the whole b-more, wobbly, fidgety crossover vibe that seems to be everywhere at the moment. Destroy Disco has fused a catchy vocal intro with lots of claps and snares before the big bass-lead meltdown. Its mental.

Finally, a guilty pleasure. Modern bmore is rapidly becoming associated with cheesy pop covers, that suddenly become more creditable with a few claps....this proves my point completely.....I love it though.

TROUBLE VISION IS BORN

You may remember both the name and logo of Trouble Vision, from a few posts back, featured on the "Park Panger Vs. Solid Gold" mixtape. Trouble Vision has eveolved aplenty since the Ranger & I buffed and polished it for release, and has now become so much more than just a mixtape. Trouble Vision entails everything that is "Smack," (from "Smack & Tickle".) but at an inderpendant, stand alone level.

The first ever Trouble Vision is being held in Room 2 at Dirty Canvas, at the Rhythm Factory in White Chapple on 18th April. Room 1 will see Jammer + Skepta, Seb Chew (Yo Yo,) Cotti and Cluekid, DJ Magic, Vectra (Rinse FM) and Another Amit (Man Make Music.) While in Room 2, The Trouble crew will be keeping it nice and bouncy, with guests Skull Juice, Foamo, The Patchwork Pirates, Blaise Bellville (joyride,) Reecha and yours truely, going back to back with Superfilth resident Ollie DAB. Its going to be disgusting so get your cheeks down there, and if you'd like a slot on the concessions list (£5) drop me a line.

In honour of this launch, here are a bunch of tracks that'll definitely be getting an airing at our gigs over the next few weeks. Big tunes all round, some old some new, I hope you enjoy.

First up is 187 Lockdown. In the mid to late nineties 187 Lockdown were famed for there flavoursom take on garage, and probably most famously for their track 'Gunman,' which sampled Ennio Morricone's 'Sixty Seconds To What.' Recently this track has been remixed by Twocker, who have offered a more contemporary 'fidgety' take on a classic. Anyway 'Kung Fu' was the 2nd of four singles released off The 187's debut, and only album. Tragic. This tune will ring alot of bells with those who grew up in the 90's.

Also check the video. Its hilarious, and not at all racially ill-informed.

This tune speaks for itself. Party Shank, have taken what seems to be a swiftly becoming timeless accapella from Yo Maj, ("fuck that shit, fuck that shit, fuck that shit I said fuck that shit....etc etc") and just clobbered it with some gruesome electro. Its sick. I need say no more. Also worth checking out in connection to the Yo Maj vocal is 'Get Low Club Action' which is a dancefloor destroying mashup of 'Club Action' by Yo Majesty, and Herve's remix of 'Get Low' by Larry Tee and Princess Superstar. This track feature on the 'Trouble Vision' Mixtape available on the download below.

Reggae remixes of classic songs are always fun. Even if they're total crap. In 5 years of relatively compulsive vinyl buying i've picked up a good fair few, and this is one of my favorites. 'Easy Star All-stars' are famed for such antics and have been responsible for numerous dub induced covers albums. 'Dub Come Save Me,' (Roots Manuva,) 'Dub Side Of The Moon,' (Pink Floyd) and 'Radio Dread' (Radiohead.....) are all brilliant examples of how this cross genre splicing can be so effective.
Anyway, this one is by 'Loo & Placido.' Its a treat.

Bangers & Cash aka Benny Blanco & Spank Rock have been remixed by 'Leif' the outcome of which, is this filthy, squelchy little number, to shake ya batty too. Check the lyrics though, apparently written by a feminist. Not really. But they're sung by 'Santogold,' whose really gona be huge this year, well at least she deserves to be. So there you go, a bit of trivia and all.

Last but not least, in my eyes, the most pioneering, inventive crew to be pushing the electro/b-more scene at the moment: 'Top Billin.' I've been into them for ages and tunes like 'San Fran' and 'Make Me Cream' off their debut EP, i've played into the ground. This tune is off their new EP, "Top Billin Vs.
