It has been an interesting week.

Romney supporters from coast to coast have struggled with emotions and concerns for our families and our Nation’s future. I too have covered the spectrum of emotions since Governor Romney's suspension of his campaign, but have found myself returning to a much more optimistic position.

My optimism has been rekindled by the very man that I have followed this past year. His actions on Thursday were the most honorable and selfless act that I have ever witnessed from a "politician" (if I can even dare use the term for Mitt). The reaction of members of CPAC confirmed in my mind that we have not seen the end of Governor Romney's public life. I have no doubt that he will continue to fight for conservative principles, and I look forward with great anticipation for the opportunity to support him in any way.

The Republican Party has now been invited to unite behind Senator McCain. Many conservatives are really struggling with this concept and are considering a general election boycott. These thoughts are not rational, but are driven by emotions. In time each of us will pick ourselves up and look to a brighter future.

As for me, I will follow the example of an honorable man, recognizing that the needs of the country in this time of war, and at all times for that matter, far out weigh the needs of the one. I will vote in November, and I will be encouraged for the future of this great country!

Colorado Landslides for Romney 60% to 19% !!!!

Conservatives Unite!

In the words of my least favorite liberal Republican, "It is time for some straight talk my friends!". Clearly a Romney victory in Florida would have been preferred to a close 2nd place, but it did not happen. The take-away from Florida to conservatives everywhere is that we need to unite behind the only remaining GOP candidate that stands for true conservative values. That candidate is Mitt Romney.

This Tuesday evening, we will have our chance to support conservative values, our chance to show the rest of the country which Republican candidate is the best prepared to guide our economy, our chance to vote for Mitt!

The process during the Caucus is very straight forward. Follow these simple steps to ensure that your vote is included:

1. Determine your District and Precinct number by clicking HERE.
2. Go to your Counties Republican website to find your Precinct location. To expedite your search we have provided links on the right for a few of the counties.
3. Arrive at your pre-determined Caucus location early. The process will begin promptly at 7:00 PM.
4. Take lots of friends with you!

Three things will happen while you are there:

1. Presidential Preference Poll
2. Election of Precinct Committeepersons (2)
3. Selection of Delegates and Alternates for Higher Assemblies

I look forward to seeing the results on Super Tuesday evening. Results that show a united conservative base in Colorado. Results that show the rest of the country who Colorado Republicans want in the White House. Results that provide Mitt Romney with a landslide victory!

Colorado Poll: Romney 43 Percent, McCain 24 Percent

Well folks, back in September, Colorado still had decisively Giuliani leanings. Today? Well, take a look at the Denver Post poll taken between the 21st and 23rd of January. Governor Romney looks to be a Colorado favorite, and with landslide proportions. Still, this is only one poll, so Caucus day on the 5th is our chance to prove the numbers right and get Romney on the Republican ticket to the White House. Colorado matters. You matter. With the race very tight, every state and every delegate could likely count next Tuesday. Come one, come all to your caucus location on the 5th and vote Romney!

Speaking of Polls

I predict that a presidential preference poll to be out any day for Colorado. Why? I just received a phone call requesting my time for a "Political Survey" specific to Colorado politics. They asked, "Do you plan to Caucus on Feb. 5th?" YES. "Are you registered to vote?" YES. "Do you have a favorable, unfavorable, or neutral impression of (they named all candidates, Republican and Democrat). I responded to each accordingly, with Mitt getting my only "Favorable" of the bunch. Strangely, Duncan Hunter was still on the poll, but Thompson was not. Didn't they both drop out?

Anyway, last question and best question of all, "Who will you caucus for on February 5th?" MITT ROMNEY!

Call me crazy but I have this theory about these polls. Who answers their phone when caller ID reads, "Unknown Name" ? Most people don't. In fact, I would argue that Mitt Romney supporters are least likely to answer such a phone call. Why? They're busy raising families, educating themselves, earning money, working hard, making their own way. They aren't sitting around waiting for handouts or phone calls. What do you think? Am I way off base?

I decided to start looking for poll calls and actually answering the phone and guess what? About half of the evening "Unkown Number" calls I get in the evening are Political Survey calls and I've been able to vote Romney every time.

So, if you're eating dinner and the phone rings and reads, "Unknown Number" "970-530_....." this week answer it and vote for Romney. It's the Mason Dixon Survey team!

Romney Leads Colorado GOP Fundraising

As you know, Presidential preference polls are being broadcast by media outlets on a daily basis, attempting to predict the outcome of National and State Primaries. I search constantly in vain for numbers from Colorado, but nothing seems to have been conducted or published. However, I did come across the next best thing, a CNN link detailing political contributions by state and in fact county.

Thanks to your efforts, Mitt Romney leads all Republican candidates in Colorado with $676,000 earned. Giuliani is second with $409,000 and McCain comes in last with $283,000. Congrat's go to my fellow Douglas County supporters, who make Romney the top earner of either party for our county. Romney also leads among all Candidates, Republican or Democrat in El Paso, Arapahoe, Logan, Adams, Elbert, Ouray Counties.

Who leads Denver, Boulder and Jefferson Counties? Barack Obama.

As we move forward in the primary process, I thought I would take this opportunity to update you on Gov. Romney’s path to victory in the upcoming primaries. After a strong second place finish in Iowa and a tremendous rally to finish in second place in New Hampshire, Gov. Romney has won the most votes of any Republican candidate. The Republican race remains wide open. Here’s why:

Gov. Romney’s message of change generated momentum in New Hampshire. As recently as Saturday, Gov. Romney trailed in New Hampshire by as many as 14 points (ARG Poll, 1/4-1/5). To come back from a double-digit deficit to finish just 5 points behind John McCain is a tremendous achievement, made possible by Gov. Romney’s debate performance on Sunday night. Frank Luntz of Fox News declared that “Mitt Romney consistently got the best responses of the entire evening” from a focus group of Republican primary voters. And it wasn’t just Sunday’s debate—Gov. Romney’s emphasis on retail politics and our superior grassroots organization also tipped the scales back towards us in the final hours. Gov. Romney closed a great deal of ground very quickly and we expect to continue this strong momentum into Michigan.

Gov. Romney is the best candidate in the Republican field to match up against the Democrats in the fall. Regardless of who wins the Democratic nomination, the contest between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama has refocused the Republican race. Gov. Romney is the Republican candidate who can stand and successfully debate the Democrats about the future of this nation. Republicans know that we must wage a campaign that offers a choice between two clearly different visions for the future, not a choice between the past and the future.

No other candidate is competitive in as many states as Gov. Romney. Gov. Romney is the only candidate who is competitive in every state before February 5: building on our victory in Wyoming and strong finishes in Iowa and New Hampshire, we head to the remaining states with strong organizations in place. Note that Gov. Romney actually beat John McCain among Republicans yesterday (35%-34%) and most of the upcoming primaries and caucuses attract an electorate far more Republican that New Hampshire’s. Yesterday’s results also show that most independents will choose the Democratic ballot in open primary states.

We are taking nothing for granted in any state. But being competitive in every contest over the next month means Gov. Romney will continue to be in the headlines, will continue to pick up delegates, and will continue to build a strong grassroots organization nationwide while other candidates sit on the sidelines. Gov. Romney will also benefit from a base built by our paid and remaining January states. Also it is important to remember that the delegate-rich states of Michigan and Florida are winner-take-all by congressional district—a format that will benefit campaigns that have organized their field efforts to focus on key districts.

Bottom line: Gov. Romney has a clear path to victory moving forward. We are prepared to fight and win in the key states throughout the rest of January—putting us in position to win both Super Tuesday and the nomination.

Romney Supporters - (If not already) Register to Vote this week!

It's true, Republican Colorado Caucus rules aren't easy to find. In fact, the delagate/caucus plan for the Republican Party isn't published on their website or anywhere that I can find.

The rule that matters today, of which I am aware, is that in Colorado, in order to participate at caucus, you must have registered to vote 29 days before caucus date. I'm sure all Romney supporters are already actively registered Republicans, but if you need to check, look here. If you need to register, click here... and since all Romney supporters I'm sure will show up for Romney on Feb. 5th, please register by Jan. 5th!

Primary or Caucus?

Hello Colorado! I am thrilled for the opportunity to introduce myself as the newest contributor to the “Coloradans for Romney 2008” blog. Paul extended me this invitation, and I am excited for the chance to connect with more supporters of the Mitt Romney candidacy.

This week will be extremely important for Mitt Romney. On Thursday, our friends in Iowa will join in caucus to discuss their candidate of choice. After Iowa, all attention turns to New Hampshire for their January 8th primary. Then on to Michigan, Nevada, South Carolina and Florida, before the big day on February 5th when Colorado and 21 additional states will hold their primaries or caucuses.

So what are the differences between a caucus and a primary? Robert Longley with About.com provides a straight forward explanation as follows:

The Primary
Just like in general elections, voting is done through a secret ballot. Voters may choose from among all registered candidates and write ins are counted. There are two types of primaries, closed and open. In a closed primary, voters may vote only in the primary of the political party in which they registered. For example, a voter who registered as a Republican can only vote in the Republican primary. In an open primary, registered voters can vote in the primary of either party, but are allowed to vote in only one primary. Most states hold closed primaries.

The Caucus
Caucuses are simply meetings, open to all registered voters of the party, at which delegates to the party's national convention are selected. When the caucus begins, the voters in attendance divide themselves into groups according to the candidate they support. The undecided voters congregate into their own group and prepare to be "courted" by supporters of other candidates. Voters in each group are then invited to give speeches supporting their candidate and trying to persuade others to join their group. At the end of the caucus, party organizers count the voters in each candidate's group and calculate how many delegates to the county convention each candidate has won.

On February 5th, Colorado will be holding a closed caucus where we will begin the process of identifying 46 delegates for the National Convention. Huckabee Not Doing well Under Media Microscope

Mike Huckabee, after vaulting to the top of many polls, is on a steady decline. Huckabee's camp likes to claim that Romney is going after and "attacking" Huckabee. If you define "describing issues of differentiation" an attack, then so be it. But - to insinuate that Romney is the ONLY ONE going after Huckabee is not true at all. In fact, take a look at a fantastic bit of research by my friend Jeff Fuller over at IowansforRomney who points out the fact that just about every conservative outlet and beyond is having a heyday pointing out Huckabee's increasingly controversial record. As Jeff says,

You can just hear and feel all of these conservative/GOP icons pleading with the voters: "PLEASE DON'T MAKE US TRY TO DEFEND THIS GUY!!!" (should he be the nominee).

As Romney closes in on the Nomination - get ready for the cheap-shots

Get ready folks for the cheap shots. Romney has done nothing but point out facts of his competitor's records. He has never participated in name-calling nor has he questioned any competitor's character. He has been gracious with each description, even in ads, prefacing most by describing his competitor as a "good man" with whom he agrees on many issues, then cites facts of disagreement (votes taken, pardons given, legislation passed etc.).

On the contrary, I am beginning to see daily attacks on Romney's character. Just today, Huckabee is accusing Romney of being dishonest, but doesn't say how, doesn't defend any particular position. These low-blows will probably become common-place because Romney's record is truly impeccable. They keep re-hashing the same old tired argument that Romney is a flip-flopper. To them I say, look at his record as governor. He voted and vetoed on the side of conservatism every time.

Colorado will participate in the largest single day of party Primary voting for the Presidential nominations across 19 states. Colorado's Caucus style system will take place on February 5th at to be disclosed locations in Republican precincts across the state. Depending on momentum swings of the earlier primary states (IA, NH, NV, MI, SC, FL) February 5th will likely close the door on most if not all candidates except one. Based on today's latest polls from each of the early states, Mitt Romney is ahead in 4 of the 6. He is in perfect position to come away with very strong momentum heading into the Colorado Caucus.

Colorado's Tancredo Endorses Romney

Rep. Tom Tancredo announced today his departure from the race for President. Tancredo announed, to quote the Denver Post:

He said former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee's success - he leads the most recent polls - was important in deciding to leave the race two weeks before the Jan. 3 Iowa caucuses and to throw his support behind Romney instead.

Tancredo said he met with Romney this morning. While he wouldn't discuss specifics of their conversation, he allowed: "We went through a lot of issues. It was a lengthy discussion.

Tancredo held about 6% of the polls in Iowa and in Colorado's latest published poll in September he held 4%.

This announcement helps Romney because of Tancredo's reputation as a champion of ending illegal immigration. Unfortunately, though, Tancredo's following isn't large enough to make a major impact, I don't believe on Romney's support.

Romney's University of Denver Town Hall event showed Coloradans exactly why he leads state polls in Iowa and New Hampshire: HE IS GENUINE.

The designation of last week's DU hosted event, and hundreds of similar events that have taken place in Iowa, New Hampshire and other parts of the country are often termed, ASK MITT ANYTHING.

Hmm? "Ask Mitt Anything"... nice ring, great marketing pitch, you say... but really, who would set himself for that kind of failure. I mean come on, allowing unknown attendees to fire-off questions in-front of undecided voters, friends, and the national media?

Honestly. Surely there's a catch. Imagine his competitors, Democrat or Republican, honing in on one of these events as an opportunity to "plant" questions designed entirely to embarrass or ruffle the Governor. Or isn't it possible that anyone disenchanted with anything, couldn't use this as a forum to express their anger or promote their cause? Why do you think so many candidates, as the Rocky Mountain News, points out, "prescreen" and "precan" questions?
In fact, the "News" actually commends Romney for opening dialogue to anyone. Check out the article and you'll find the types of questions that Romney fielded... and answered.

See, I'm convinced that Romney's desire to help America comes from his heart. His plan for success is real. Beyond rhetoric, this proven business and political champion thrives on constructing detailed, tested solutions. He's not afraid to update and improve his plan of execution. His search for the most innovative, the most historically imperative, and the most efficient is tireless. He has no reason to hide or cower. Mitt's capacity to absorb and respond to questioning is the best I've seen in the last several presidential candidate fields. His preparation is a life-long of experience.

It’s going to take a nuts and bolts approach to improve the inefficiencies of government. It’s going to take an honest exchange of information to communicate and implement a difference.

Profile of a Coloradan for Giuliani

Well, Giuliani was in town last weekend. Which allows me to make an interesting point. I've often wondered: How does Giuliani perform so well in the national polls with such a Socially Liberal agenda? Why do Republican's lean to him in the polls?

While his fiscally conservative approach is fantastic, he lacks ability, I assume based on core beliefs, to passionately articulate other conservative values. When it comes to abortion, for instance, or a discussion on traditional family values, he seems indifferent, apologetic. A nervous laugh may kick in, maybe even a joke when related questions arise. Rather than speak passionately from the heart, he seems only able to deflect or respond minimally to such topics.

While I have been admittedly perplexed with this situation, fellow Coloradans have begun to shed some light.

Who showed up last weekend to greet Giuliani? His supporters of course. What type of political psyche does Giuliani attract? According to this Rocky Mountain News Article, Giuliani Stumps in Aspen, Springs, Rudy followers in Colorado had this to say:

"He's like a lot of people in this country. He's liberal socially and fiscally conservative."

Yes, Rudy is Socially Liberal. No surprise. But... the quotee is a Democrat. A Coloradan Democrat further describing Giuliani, a Republican, as a "viable candidate".

Let's take a look at another pro-Rudy comment, this time from his own liking, fellow Republican Barbara Philips:

Former state Rep. Barbara Philips, R-Colorado Springs, said she believes Giuliani is the best candidate to face a Democrat in November 2008. One reason she supports him is because of his pro-choice stance on abortion while he was mayor.

"If he can just get to that general election he can win," she said. "But getting there is so hard with our system, especially in El Paso County. I hate to say it, but you have to be pro-life here to win."

So, let me get this straight, we've got a Republican, former lawmaker nonetheless, identifying "PRO-CHOICE" as a main reason for her Giuliani support. Then we've got a Democrat, who understands the beauty of Capitalism, expressing her own enchantment.

It took me a while, but that's when the light-bulb went on in my head. If the defining theme for Mayor Giuliani support is Social Liberalism, then who else is voting for Rudy in the National polls? Probably a lot of Democrats.

Let's face it, we love the guy's smile. He's definitely warm and fuzzy. He's usually very non-confrontational. I don't loath him in the least. I appreciate his role in bringing hope and courage to Americans in the aftermath of 911.

But, not only do his positions fall short of most Conservatives, but his Poll numbers are certainly not an accurate reflection of his ability to win the Republican Party Nomination.

While he currently appears electable across party lines, this is still very early, and Mitt Romney has barely begun tapping his greatest strength, handling the Media and working debates... and if he did it in Massachusetts, he can do it anywhere.

Romney Shows Some Presidential Passion

Those who haven't seen the recent news on Romney's discussion on Iowan talk show host Jan Mickelson's program, it, in my opinion shows Romney at his best. He was taped on camera, unknowingly, during a commercial break in which he defended he tries to gain Jan's respect and at minimum acknowledgment that Romney, a Mormon, can speak more intelligently about Mormon beliefs than Mickelson, not a Mormon.

In my opinion Romney conducted himself perfectly reasonably, did not lose too much cool, and in fact, showed a little passion that was nice to see.

I've Been MIA, But I Like Romney More Than Ever

Life has a way of getting the best of our time. Careers have a way of monopolizing too much time. All that remains from my attempt to keep balance between that and time spent with my wife and children are a few hours of sleep every night.

I have fallen woefully short at updating my comments on the Romney campaign here in Colorado. I remain 110% convinced that Mitt Romney is the best person to lead our country in 2008.

I will work my way back into the scene, but please excuse my absence!

Romney "Hits One Out" in CPAC Speech

Mitt Romney's speech today at the CPAC (Conservative Political Action Conference) in Washington D.C. appears to have caught many conservatives by surprise. Excitement reigns on the Conservative Blog "Redstate" as many weigh in their satisfaction with Romney's content and delivery.

Those of us who already know his intellect and leadership weren't surprised, but many who had only "heard" of him appear to be swept away with new excitement. Looks like he made quite an impact. I'm sure we'll hear more in days to come.

"Mormon Poll" not indicitave of Romney's Presidential prospects

Ok, let’s put this week's latest Rasmussen Poll result article into perspective.

I want answers.

FIRST, WHO PUBLISHED THE ARTICLE?

That’s right. What Journal compiled the content for an article titled, Voting for an LDS prez not an option, 43% say?

ANSWER:

The Salt Lake Tribune. Now first, let's give the article's author, Thomas Burr, a little credit. Copy editors usually create headlines, not authors. Furthermore, Burr is also likely assigned to report on Romney, the good, bad and the ugly. Still, the articles published by the Tribune seem suspiciously heavy on Romney negativity. In fact, check this out: Mr. Burr has authored 12 articles in the last 5 weeks that focus solely on Romney. Perhaps a little obsessive, but harmless right? Well, take a look at just a few of the Tribune's headliner creations:

“Mitt’s LDS ties: too close?”
“Call to back Romney raises a legal red flag”
“Romney pal takes blame for dust-up”,
“Alumni objected to email from Romney’s supporters”
"Mormon backing of Romney White House run could backfire"

Ouch, that last title implicates a little too much doesn't it, based on too little facts? The Tribune is treading water on that one, which interestingly was run with Burr's name as co-author for the Knoxville Sentinel (yep, in the Evangelical South).

Are you kidding me? No disrespect to the author, but the subject matter doesn't reflect accurately the title.

Now I’m no trained detective, I don’t even hunt, but I think I just picked up a scent. Looks to me like a steady dose of propaganda headliners. In fact, I feel an obligation to give notice to the public.

ATTENTION: Headlines published in the Salt Lake Tribune may be somewhat slanted in nature, the content in no way reflects the sometimes desperately skewed title attempts.

Keep a lookout for similar articles in the Salt Lake Tribune. I’m sure they will recycle a few of these negative headlines as he "represents the people", as Romney support picks up steam.

Next, does the Poll Question fairly reflect Mitt Romney’s odds?

I challenge Scott Rasmussen, who by-the-way, is not only a well-known pollster, but an Evangelical Christian and President of a Methodist religious community. While his own assessment article on the Rasmussen website appears "balanced", again, the headline is misleading, calling into question it's purpose.

Do us a huge favor Scott, and run your next "Mormon" poll asking the following,

“Would you support the appointment of a “Mormon” Senate Majority Leader?” or "Would you vote for a Mormon Governer?. or "Would you stay in a hotel chain owned by a Mormon?"

Run that poll on 1,000 respondents many of whom are from the South like you did the “Mormon President" poll and share your results.

Let’s see if the Salt Lake Tribune can craft another headline, maybe something like, "Supporting Mormon Majority Leader not an option, says 43%". Oops, we already have one.

Exactly my point. Don't waste your time running the "Mormon Poll" because when the candidate get's his face on TV, the people won't know or they won't care. My prediction? That very 43% will look at Romney and say, "He's not a Mormon. He looks like a normal person." The very same stereotypes that feed these negative poll results will save Romney when it's time to vote. They won't consider him a Mormon, because after all, he doesn't fit the ignorant stereotyped profiles (most of which are distorted and false to begin with).

Makes sense doesn't it?

(Interesting too that this Salt Lake Tribune article was published immediately the day following a glowing assessment of Romney in the Deseret News. Check it out. Poor McCain sitting at 15%, speaking of which, I wonder if Gov. Huntsman is worried yet about his next re-election bid? Poll: Mitt is top Utah choice.)
