When I needed thank you cards for my daughter's 2nd birthday, I began a search. With the pressure of knowing I would likely share my find on Cool Baby Kid, the requirements were extensive: cute, classy, unique, customizable, and versatile...meaning if I had cards left over I could use them in other ways. As you can see from the Monkey Mama design pictured, I was able to find Amy Adele, the creator of the cutest children's stationery and most adorable website on the internet. Proving learning and fashion can go together, ABCD tees took a simple idea and made it a must have for your kids' back to school wardrobe. A Canadian online retail boutique and "perfect place for people with more taste than time," Ashley York is everything Cool Baby Kid would be if it were a shop and not a blog. Chic and classy with it's own "celeb sightings" page, I was drawn to the site immediately knowing it would become an instant favorite. Sometimes it's nice letting someone else scour the world for the hippest products around. This shop carries names I've never even heard of (gasp!) like the Window Pavilion (pictured) by Win Green. Browse around Ashley York for a few minutes, and I guarantee you'll find something you can't live without. When Baby's Shoes Are Cooler Than Moms

So baby doesn't have to go back to school, but that doesn't mean he or she shouldn't look cool for the fall too. Cool Baby Kid readers know I'm a sucker for anything unique that every other baby and kid in the world doesn't already have. This is one reason I'm so excited about Kaboogie Shoes. Unlike other shoe companies I've reviewed, these are made by a mom who started Kaboogie as a solution for hip, funky shoes that are also good for the environment. Using only repurposed suede, leather and wool, I'd say she accomplished her goal. Look at the mocs (pictured) and tell me you wouldn't want them in your closet! My son is a proud owner of these skull shoes, giving him that funky, edgy look every 5 month old needs. The turnaround time for these handmade, custom fit shoes is unbelievable! I've waited longer in a fast food drive through line. You seriously should check them out.

Solving Your Child's Sleep Problems

Ferberizing 101

Though I've already written a review on Ferber's Solve Your Child's Sleep Problems, after using the book recently a second time with baby number two I remembered why Dr. Ferber was one of my favorite people in the world and worth another look. With a two year old who sleeps like a charm and a four month old we recently "sleep trained," I'm even more convinced of his methods. Basically it boils down to using the "progressive waiting" approach and letting baby cry. Yes, it's awfully hard and makes you want to cry too but in the long run is best for the entire family. You wait 3, 5, 7, and 10 minutes progressively without picking up or rocking etc. though you can verbally reassure them for a minute or so. The goal is for baby to learn to sleep on their own. If he or she is also feeding upon waking, you must also break that habit by extending the time 1/2 hour each night until the feeding is pushed back into the morning. Using this method, we went from 2-3 wakings with feedings to a ten hour stretch of sleep a few weeks later. Buy Solving Your Child's Sleep Problems and join the Dr. Ferber Fan Club. (I haven't been in a fan club since Luke Skywalker, but that one I would join!)

Yesterday I took the kids to the beach for a day. When I finally sat down after unpacking, applying their sunscreen and changing diapers, I realized I forgot my SPF lip balm and was lucky to have remembered to wear a bathing suit! As moms everywhere know, we often put ourselves last since the little ones need us. The Well Mom realizes this better than anyone and has created a welcoming site for moms everywhere to take a minute for themselves. It's a beautifully designed webpage with tons of information and ideas for moms. Browse through the well-nourished or well toned sections for eating and exercise tips or the well-centered and well-pampered sections all about taking care of yourself. How can I resist articles like "What's in a Wine Glass?" This one's for you mom...

As a teacher myself, this is one idea I definitely dig. Verymeri tees are designed by kids. The creator, also an educator, holds design contests for schools and various other organizations. The results are original t-shirts with positive messages like "Go Green" and "Kindergarten Rocks" (pictured) for kids of all sizes. Even cooler? A portion of the proceeds goes back to Free Arts for Abused Children. On verymeri's website read about how they work hand in hand with organizations to create tees, even giving a portion of sales back as a fundraiser. Cute & Affordable Soft Leather Baby Shoes

I will make your life easier when it comes to buying shoes for baby-ShooShoos. My son is a proud owner of the "golf" shoes pictured. Need I say more about their cuteness? Even my husband got excited when these came in the mail. (Maybe excited is too strong of a word, but definitely intensely interested!) Packaged in an adorable pouch, I could have given them as a gift to a lucky friend. But sadly I don't know anyone with a baby boy so we had to keep them all for ourselves. In case you need more reasons to head right on over to ShooShoos right this minute, here goes. Their elastic makes them easy to put on but impossible for toddler to take off. 100% leather allows little feet to grow naturally, suede non-slip soles assist new walkers and best yet, they're affordable! I could actually go to ShooShoos, buy a few pair for the season and not leave completely broke, which by the way is my plan for the fall...shhh...don't tell hubby please!

Grobag Egg by Keen Distribution

Every once in a while I find a product that I love so much I want to buy a bunch of them and immediately give to all of my friends and then buy stock in the company. Actually, I should probably invest in the stock first... Anyway, the Grobag Egg is so cool that I've decided to re-name my "Top Shopping Picks" to "Coolest Stuff Ever" (as soon as I get around to it) in it's honor. It not only displays room temperature but glows different colors telling you if the room is too hot, cold etc. Unfortunately, my egg has been red (too warm) since we put it in my daughter's room, prompting us adjust the clothing situation (i.e. sleep in a diaper). I plan on getting a 2nd egg for my son's room too. The company that gives you this gem, Keen Distribution, also sells the Mommy Hook which is now how I carry my diaper bag on the back of the stroller. You can hang anything from it (bags, groceries) and the Mommy Hook won't slide around. Look for more reviews on Keen Distribution in the future because I really do love their stuff!

Lifestyle Grand Walk-In Kitchen by Step 2

I know what you're thinking...that looks expensive. I won't kid you, it's not super cheap, but I had to share because it's my daughter's #1 favorite toy. The Lifestyle Grand Walk-In Kitchen, while you do need a bit of room for it, and we've already covered the price, really is fantastic! I bought it for Christmas last year and Bella (now almost 2) plays in it everyday. It's holds her attention for more than five minutes which is a lifesaver when my 3 month old needs some attention. Since CBK is a resource for moms, babies & kids...this one is for moms. You absolutely must check out Tori & Dean: Home Sweet Hollywood. I've seen an episode here or there of previous seasons, but I'm telling you, every mom will love this one; it's hilarious and so comforting to know all moms (even famous ones) deal with similar issues. I easily related to this mega star mom in an episode where she was pregnant, exhausted and planning a 1st birthday party. Just last summer I was in the same boat and remember the worries when things didn't always go according to plan (rain!) Tori is engaging, funny and surprisingly real...just one warning, you'll be addicted...non-Tivo customers need not apply.

Birthday in a Box

This is the 2nd year in a row I've used Birthday in a Box to buy party supplies. As I do with any purchase, I researched, compared, debated and finally decided on them for a few reasons. First, I like things to match. While I'll buy the bulk of the plates, napkins etc. at the $1 store, the "themed" stuff must coordinate. And here's what I like about Birthday in a Box...they have personalizable invitations and banners in each theme that are adorable and made well (i.e. don't look cheap). I can do invites myself on Photoshop, but their customized ones look just as good and take way less time. Their prices are competitive, and the themes are super cute. "Hula Girl" is our theme this year, while "The Big One" was last year's choice. If you're planning a b-day party, check them out!

Begin Smart Book Series

As an English teacher, I can appreciate the time, effort and research that is apparent behind the absolute coolest line of books ever. Written by an author and former educator, Begin Smart is a developmental book series for babies and toddlers. The "Faces" book pictured (newborn-6 months) is a permanent fixture in our diaper bag. A cute cloth book about expressions from sad to sleepy, the top face is a rattle too! My three month old son loves to eat it...I mean read it. Other books such as "Woof" and "Meow" also go beyond your basic book experience by including nifty sound effects for 6-12 month olds. Begin Smart is one of those rare finds that makes you want to buy two every product they have--one for your kids and one as a gift for all the kids you know. I love the idea behind the line, the products themselves and the webpage which after visiting you'll see why I'm so enthusiastic about these books!
