A study of 14 common household air fresheners has found that most of the surveyed products contain chemicals that can aggravate asthma and affect reproductive development, according to the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC). We use lavender and eucalyptus essential oils for a yummy scent and you do not need to rinse!Meghanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04036819265926392985noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30380614.post-1156212137934663812006-08-21T18:49:00.000-07:002006-08-21T19:02:17.993-07:00Precautionary PrincipleI was reading a book Linda recommended called "Naturally Clean". In the first paragraph it talks about the Precautionary Principle. It states:

"When an activity raises threats of harm to human health or the environment, precautionary measures should be taken even if some cause and effect relationships are not fully established scientifically."

What an interesting idea. It's so foreign to our culture though. In the U.S. we tend to think that products would not be allowed on the shelf if there was even a possibility of them causing us or our families harm. Unfortunately our country does not work that way. Even chemicals are innocent until proven guilty. That means that not one someone has to die before the chemical is pulled, but that many people have to die or get sick to make a strong enough case between the particular chemical and the illness and/or death. We know that certain chemicals have long latency periods. Will it be you, or your loved one that is experimented on to see what the long term affects are??

I say no. I say that products should be proven innocent before I will allow them into my house and into my organs and the organs of my loved ones. I challenge you to think about what you are letting into your life. Read the ingredients of one of your bottles of product. Is it safe? And are you willing to bet your health on that? Make sure. Use natural products until chemicals can be proven to be safe.Meghanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04036819265926392985noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30380614.post-1153152481747489402006-07-17T09:04:00.000-07:002006-07-17T09:08:01.756-07:00Cleaning with a two year oldMy son is 2. Therefore, he always wants to help. Today, I was washing the windows, like I do every month when he toddled into the kitchen. He climbed up on the table bench, picked up the diaper cloth, and started rubbing it back and forth on the glass. I smiled, because I know since I'm using Seaside Naturals glass cleaner, I can have my little helper "help" without worry. The lessons are children learn by helping us in the house and feeling a part of the home structure is invaluable. It's a shame so many children are missing out because of the commercial cleaners that are not safe for children or adults to use. So, pick up some glass cleaner today and get your kids and/or grandkids involved in some housecleaning fun!Meghanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04036819265926392985noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30380614.post-1152152149959815582006-07-05T19:12:00.000-07:002006-07-05T19:15:49.966-07:00FreecylingI was exploring the net's content on natural living when I came across an ingenious idea I hadn't heard of before. It's called freecyling. Freecycling is based on the idea that one person's junk is another person's treasure. People from all over the place post items that they would normally throw away (such as clothes, furniture, exercise equipment) and list them as free. They may charge shipping charges, but otherwise it's free. People can also post things they would like for free. This site connects people with things and keeps our landfills free of unwanted clutter. If you want to check it out, visit www.freecycle.org.Meghanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04036819265926392985noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30380614.post-1152052232586556272006-07-04T15:27:00.000-07:002006-07-04T15:30:32.596-07:00Follow-upLast post I was wanting to make 100 copies of the sign-up form to recycle and pass it out to my neighbors. Instead, I was able to submit an article to our neighborhood newsletter with the form printed inside. This will ensure the information will reach everyone in the community, which stretches a few miles, instead of just my street. I think it will be very interesting to see how many bins will be out in front of my neighbors' houses in the next month. I'll keep you posted.Meghanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04036819265926392985noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30380614.post-1151796420067222782006-07-01T16:16:00.000-07:002006-07-01T16:27:00.073-07:00Is recycling endangerd?I know that recycling has been talked about before. As a matter of fact, it was part of my curriculum in elementary school (I hope that doesn't give away my age!!). However, I know that I myself do not take part in some of the great programs cities are offering. For example, in my city of Columbus, Ohio we have a bin program. For $5 a month I can be given a bin and the recycling company will come and pick it up. For some unknown reason, not a single house on my block has a bin. Part of it is laziness on our part and part of it is the difficulty in the process. I had to do an immense amount of research to even find out what programs were offered. Then I had to look at the color-coded map; decipher which color I was in and then check to make sure the bin program was offered in my area.
Why is recycling so complicated where as throwing perfectly recycable items in the trash is free (in my checkbook's eyes anyway) and the most convinient. I think tonight, I am going to print off 100 copies of the form to register for the bin program and pass it around to all my neighbors. This will cut out the research step and also the printing step. Then I'm going to fill one out myself and see how many neighbors I can get to follow suit. Who knows, this may also be great way to introduce the great products at Seaside Naturals to my community. I would encourage you to do the same in your neighborhood. Recycling may be older than I am, but unless we keep awareness up, it will die out before I do.Meghanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04036819265926392985noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30380614.post-1151489529284262132006-06-28T03:10:00.000-07:002006-06-28T03:12:09.290-07:00Welcome to our BlogLook for exciting and innovate ways to live naturally, using non toxic alternatives and providing a healthy living space for you and your family and being friendly to mother earth!Seaside Davehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05312911275215936675noreply@blogger.com
