Customer relationship management

is a broad term that covers concepts used by companies to manage their relationships with customers, including the capture, storage and analysis of customer information.

Aspects of CRM

There are three aspects of CRM which can each be implemented in isolation from each other:

Operational CRM- automation or support of customer processes that include a company’s sales or service representative
Collaborative CRM- direct communication with customers that does not include a company’s sales or service representative (“self service”)
Analytical CRM- analysis of customer data for a broad range of purposes

META Group (acquired by Gartner in April 2005) developed this conceptual architecture in the late-1990s, and dubbed it the “CRM Ecosystem”

Operational CRM

Operational CRM provides support to "front office" business processes, including sales, marketing and service. Each interaction with a customer is generally added to a customer's contact history, and staff can retrieve information on customers from the database as necessary.

One of the main benefits of this contact history is that customers can interact with different people or different contact “channels” in a company over time without having to repeat the history of their interaction each time.

Consequently, many call centers use some kind of CRM software to support their call centre agents.

Collaborative CRM

Collaborative CRM covers the direct interaction with customers, for a variety of different purposes, including feedback and issue-reporting. Interaction can be through a variety of channels, such as internet, email, automated phone (Automated Voice Response AVR), SMS or through mobile email.

Studies have shown that feedback through SMS or mobile email provides greater efficiency relative to alternative channels. Part of this has to do with the ease of use of particular feedback channels. A study of telephone feedback showed that if consumers cannot get through to customer service centres, 31% hang up and go to a competitor. 24% of consumers give up all together. In addition, in a separate study, it was found that a bad experience with a customer call centre led to 56% of callers to stop doing business with the organisation concerned. (Ian Brooks May 2006) Other studies have shown similar findings; a separate study in the trade journal Quality Progress showed that only 4% of unsatisfied customers complain, whereas 96% of consumers go to competitors. Additionally, 90% of defecting customers do not come back (Scriabina, Fomichov 2005).

Feedback through text has many advantages; not only does it allow the consumer to give feedback at the point of experience (in-situ) but additionally it allows companies to capture insight from a wider consumer base.

The objectives of Collaborative CRM can be broad, including cost reduction and service improvements.

Analytical CRM

Analytical CRM analyses customer data for a variety of purposes including

design and execution of targeted marketing campaigns to optimise marketing effectiveness
design and execution of specific customer campaigns, including customer acquisition, cross-selling, up-selling, retention
analysis of customer behaviour to aid product and service decision making (e.g. pricing, new product development etc.)
management decisions, e.g. financial forecasting and customer profitability analysis
prediction of the probability of customer defection (churn).

Analytical CRM generally makes heavy use of predictive analytics.

Strategy

Several commercial CRM software packages are available which vary in their approach to CRM. However, CRM is not just a technology, but rather a holistic approach to an organization's philosophy in dealing with its customers. This includes policies and processes, front-of-house customer service, employee training, marketing, systems and information management. Hence, it is important that any CRM implementation considers not only technology, but furthermore the broader organizational requirements.

The objectives of a CRM strategy must consider a company’s specific situation and its customers needs and expectations.

Technology Considerations

The technology requirements of a CRM strategy can be complex and far reaching. The basic building blocks include

A database to store customer information. This can be a CRM specific database or an Enterprise Data warehouse.
Operational CRM requires customer agent support software.
Collaborative CRM requires customer interaction systems, eg an interactive website, automated phone systems etc.
Analytical CRM requires statistical analysis software as well as software that manages any specific marketing campaigns.

Each of these can be implemented in a basic manner or in a high end complex installation.

Base Requirements
-----------------

In order to setup PHP-Nuke the folowing prerequisits are necessary.

- A Linux or Windows Box installed and working properly.
- Apache Web Server (http://www.apache.org)
- PHP version 4.2.x or better (mod_php) Apache module (http://www.php.net)
- MySQL database server (http://www.mysql.com)

NOTE: From PHP-Nuke version 5.3, I added a new SQL abstraction layer,
this means that PHP-Nuke now supports MySQL, mSQL, PostgreSQL, PostgreSQL_local,
ODBC, ODBC_Adabas, Sybase and Interbase servers. The official test server
is MySQL which is used to develop PHP-Nuke. Any feedback about others SQL Servers
and how it works will be very appreciated and useful.

The above doesn't mean it will not work with other configurations, OS's, DB's, etc,
but we only provide INSTALL instructions for the above configuration.
In fact PHP-Nuke works under Windows (all), FreeBSD, OS/2, MacOS, etc.

Setup of these required packages is beyond the scope of this document
and if you are unsure you should check with each of the appropriate web
sites for further details.

Installing the Package
----------------------

Unzip the package into the directory you want to use on you web
server, if you're unsure where that is, ask you system administrator.

Now go to the directory where you uncompressed all files and edit the
file "config.php". Change all the fields until you are happy with the
changes and they fits the need of your web site. Give special attention
to the database configuration section. When you have finished to edit
config.php file change to the /sql/ directory and there is a file called
"nuke.sql" this file contains the commands to build the database structure,
tables and the default data.

If you're using a software like phpMyAdmin go to step 3.

1) Create a database called, for example, nuke:

mysqladmin create nuke

2) Now fill the databases with the tables in nuke.sql file:

mysql nuke < nuke.sql 3) In order to use the ultramode.txt news file please be sure to chmod 666. This file is used to show news from your site in some old programs and frontends and is reserved to future use in PHP-Nuke. For backend use backend.php file instead. 4) That's it!... now you need to edit the file "config.php" to set the database options. Please read carefully the instruction on that file! After that, point your browser to: http://phpnuke.org/admin.php We use MySQL as the example and nuke.sql file is in MySQL format because PHP-Nuke was made using this database server. You can find many programs out there to convert the database schema from MySQL to whatever else you want. But this is a task for you. First Run --------- Create your Super User following the on-screen instructions. Now click on "Preferences" and change whatever you want to fit your site info. All the options you need to change are in the Preferences menu. If you need help just click con the help icon at the right-top of the Administration Menu. This will open a new window with the help you need for each section in the administration system. SECURITY TIP: It's a good choice to put your config.php file outside the Web Server path, then you can create a new config.php with the line:

Upgrading from previous versions
--------------------------------

To upgrade a prevoius PHP-Nuke installation to this new version you
need to edit the selected upgrade file from upgrades directory and launch
your web browser to:

all the new tables will be added and updated automagically without touch
your old data.

IMPORTANT: Remember to backup always your database before any upgrade, just
in case. If something goes wrong don't come crying to me.

Testing the Installation
------------------------

Go to your homepage, for example:

http://yourdonaim.com/index.php

To initiate your activities in your site, you need to login as Administrator at:

http://phpnuke.org/admin.php

this will give you full administrator priviledges to your installation of Nuke.

*** For security reasons please remember to create a Super User IMMEDIATELY!!! ***

Remember to "Logout" from admin after you use it, from this area you can
delete or add content on your site, never leave your computer without logggin out
from the admin account. If something bad happens don't come crying to me.

I recommend the use of phpMyAdmin. It's a good administration system for
MySQL databases. To download it just go to http://phpmyadmin.net

I also recommend to set a password for your MySQL access. This is important
as some data in the nuke database is not encrypted, so for security reasons you
need to set a password, not only that, it's a good practice!

For Banners System, when you setup a new client, you need to assign a new
login/password for him. The login and password is used by the client at the url:

http://phpnuke.org/banners.php?op=login

in order to let the client view and track the banners stats in real time
just pass that url to your clients. Take a look yourself before you do.

Final Notes
-----------

That's it! You're done with PHP-Nuke. Just navigate around, play with it,
abuse it and if you like PHP-Nuke, use it. Spend some time getting used to the
administration interface.

To change your site's logo, go to the themes directory and make a custom
logo for each individual theme. Just navigate around all themes and change
the graphics you want.

A note for the PHP-Nuke site's administrators: Only admins (authors) can
view the following data in the site:

- Administration Menu
- Number of New Submissions
- Edit button for each link in Web Links
- Edit and Delete options for each Article
- Delete option for each comment
- IP/Host address of the comment poster
- Moderation option and button (if set for admin only)
- and MANY more...

If you plan to give something in change for PHP-Nuke as a contribution,
please read the file SUPPORT included in this package to have some ideas.

His father was King Suddhodana of Kapilavasdu, and his mother Queen Siri Mahamaaya, formerly a daughter of the King of Devadaha.

Like other Indian Princes, Siddhattha married Princess Yasohara Bimba, also a daughter of the King of a neighboring state, who had soon afterwards born him a son named Rahula. But unlike them, instead of allowing himself to be chained all his life to his wife and son, Siddythatha broke up all these worldly fetters. At the age of twenty-nine, he stole out of his palace one night, set out on a long solitary journey, and left all his possessions behind.

He did so, known also as “ His Great Renunciation”. Because he grew tired of all worldly pleasures, realizing that all these never lasted long and that life was in fact full of sufferings. By doing so, he intended to discover the Ultimate Truth of the whole existence, so as to find a sure way out of all suffering.

He spent his time meditating in solitude, and doing everything which he believed to lead him to success, for instance, starving and torturing himself until he become so weak and thin. After his self-mortifications, his finally found that the best way to success was” The Middle Way”, or Majhimapatipada”, that is avoiding the two extremes: indulging oneself in pleasures or torturing oneself to the utmost. At last he became enlightened in one full-moon night under the Bodhi three on the bank of Nerunjara River, in the state of Magadha, when he was thirty-five years old, after spending six years altogether in search of truth.

What he discovered was “ The Four Noble Truths” : Dukkha” or sufferings, “Samudaya” or the causes of suffering, “Nirodha’ or the extinction of all sufferings.

“Dukkha” means that the whole human life, from birth to death, is nothing but sufferings, as it is always changeable, that is “Aniccam,” and uncontrollable, or “Anatta”. “Samudaya” means the main cause of all sufferings called “Tanha” or desire. All of our sufferings according to Buddha, spring up from nothing but our ever- increasing desire, the desire to posses what seem to us pleasurable and to avoid what seem to us unpleasurable. “Nirodha” means that by giving up “Tanha” or desire, which is the mainspring of all sufferings, we can get rid of all these sufferings themselves. “Magga” means the Noble Eightfold Path which leads to the extinction of the sufferings, comprising Sammadithi or Right View, Sammasankappo or Right Motives, Sammavaca or Right Speech, Sammakammanto or Right Action, Sammaajivo or Right Means of Livelihood, Sammavayamo or Right Effort, Sammsati or Right Mindfulness, and Sammasamadhi or Right Concentration.

Buddha preached “ The Four Noble Truths” to his disciples, who in turn preached them to the people of their time. Thus the seeds of Buddhism were sown and began to spread far and wide as the years passed by, and when the Great Teacher passed away at the age of eighty, Buddhism had been firmly established in India.

The Indian king who did most in patronizing Buddhism and spreading it into foreign lands was King Asoka. Thanks to this great king, Buddhism came to be established in Suwannadhumi, where it was finally embraced by the Thai people, and under the benevolent rule of King Ramkhamhaeng of Sukhothai, Buddhism became the Thai state religion.

Ever since the foundation of the Kingdom of Sukhothai, Thailand has been a stronghold of Buddhism, which has, no doubt, a great influence over the Thai people. Under its good influence, the Thais have become peace- loving nation, with unrivalled tolerance and hospitality to the people of different races and creeds. It is not too much to say that, in the past, this admirable characteristic of our nation helped a great deal in preserving our national independence while the neighboring countries all around us were losing theirs.

The World's Longest Serving Monarch

During this month of December, on the 5th to be exact, Thailand's revered Monarch, His Majesty King Bhumibol, will celebrate his 73rd Birthday. It will be a day of national celebration, rejoicing, prayers and thanksgiving for such is the high esteem the Thai people hold for their King. And who is this man -- His Majesty King Bhumibol, Rama IX of the Chakri Dynasty of Thailand?

As a European (and honored by the invitation to write this tribute), I first saw King Bhumibol just over 10 years ago. Not in person, of course, but his likeness. It was on Thai bank notes which I had purchased in my home country prior to making my first visit to Thailand. Since then I've spent a lot of time in this country learning something of it, its people and its ruling King.

King Bhumibol was born on 5 December 1927 in Massachusetts, U.S.A. At that time his father and mother, Prince and Princess Mahidol of Songkhla (who was to become the Princess Mother), were both taking medical related degrees at Harvard University and Summons College respectively. As it happened, the young Prince Bhumibol was not born for Kingship -- he was the youngest of his parents' three children so, as "baby of the family" he was welcomed by his elder brother and sister as well as mother and father. At this time it was elder brother, Prince Ananda, who was destined to carry the heavy mantle of Kingship.

Sadly, young Prince Bhumibol's father, Prince Mahidol, prematurely passed away. That left his mother, Princess Mahidol of Songkhla to raise the young family. She transferred her family to Switzerland where they lived while the children furthered their education.

And thus it happened, in 1935, the young Prince's elder brother became H.M. King Ananda, Rama VIII, of Thailand. This was after the abdication of his uncle, King Prajadhipok. In some ways the situation was comparable to the succession to the British Crown of King George VI after the abdication of Edward VIII. So, when Prince Bhumibol was approximately 8 years old his elder brother ascended the Thai Throne while the younger Prince continued his upbringing in Switzerland.

By this time, Prince Bhumibol was already multilingual and was showing great aptitude for, and displaying, other talents such as the enjoyment of music, nature and the environment and was a budding photographer -- now a lifetime's passion!

The Prince, fast growing up, became fascinated by "what makes things work" and was studying engineer ing at a Swiss University when in 1946, an event happened which changed the course of the Prince's life and that of his nation, Thailand. His elder brother, King Ananda, died in tragic circumstances and the Royal Robes of Kingship fell to the young, inexperienced shoulders of Prince Bhumibol. The Prince was 18 years of age when he became His Majesty, King Bhumibol Adulyadej, Rama IX, of the King of Thailand.

It was important, and eminently sensible, that the new King finished his formal education and so his Coronation was delayed some four years to allow this to happen. An engineering degree was superceded by a political sciences major and, in other areas too, the new King had been busy. One year prior to his Coronation, King Bhumibol had become engaged to Mom Rajawongse Sirikit Kittiyakara daughter of a Thai diplomat and herself of Royal Blood. On the 28th April 1950 the Royal Couple married and, one week later on the 5th May, King Bhumibol was crowned Monarch of the Kingdom of Thailand with full pomp and ceremony.

Now, some 50 years after his coronation, H.M. King Bhumibol, Rama IX of Thailand is the longest serving Monarch in the world. And, it can be suggested, probably the Monarch most respected by his subjects. King Bhumibol has carried the mantle of Kingship humanity. He is a Monarch not only of the Thai people but for the Thai people. He knows their needs and wants -- and has the perception to understand that they are not always the same. As a Constitutional Monarch King Bhumibol has only three "rights": the right to encourage, the right to warn, and the right to be consulted. Within these parameters H.M. The King has led, helped and guided his people of Thailand -- be they military generals, governing politicians or rural farmers -- to a better understanding of each other and to a more wholesome future for all. Of course, there have been upsets and blights, both political and natural, but thanks to the King's gentle--handed diplomacy, or firm warning when needed and, especially, his love of his people and nation, good order and sustainable growth are the hallmarks of Thailand today.

His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, Rama IX, is well regarded by his subjects as "The Light of Thailand." That as a young Prince not expecting ever to be monarch, the King has displayed a most remarkable wisdom and talent for this most onerous of "jobs." May he reign long and may we, at "Welcome to Chiangmai & Chiang Rai" magazine wish him a Wonderful, Healthy and Happy 73rd Birthday on the 5th December. LONG live the King !
