I'm Giving Wordpress Another Whirl!!

Hey All,

After much thought & consideration... OK let me stop lying... after some serious sweat, cursing & almost tears, I've finally figured out how to get Wordpress on a domain name that I've had for a while now.

I'm going to give it another try (I tested it out a while back with Wistful Blogging) because I didn't want to muck it all up and lose my readers.

So, now that I have worked out the kinks (I think!) and hauling all my posts/comments over there, I'm going to give it the old 1 - 2 again. I'm trying to consolidate all the many blogs that I've had that were expressions of different things that interested me. Now I'm just going to continue doing what I was doing here and I will post over there, whatever catches my attention on the one blog.

Soooo, my lovely, wonderful, beautiful people, please take a trip on over to Hey Shae and let me know what you t hink... I am still working on some things so let me know if something doesn't work for you, or if you get an error code.

Nas recently appeared on the Tavis Smiley Show on PBS and spoke with the talk show host about challenging himself.

Sans the original title of his last album, which thankfully is just Nas at this piont, the rapper seems to be rolling right along on the positivity wagon right about now. It reminds me of the old Nas before the era of the bling where people lost focus.

I wish Tavis would have gotten deeper with this interview, but somehow I feel as if the questions were probably pre-approved.

Negative Body Images Turned Around

Growing up I used to hate my lips. People told me I had big lips, soup coolers and all that jazz... and it messed me up as a kid.

By high school I learned to embrace these big mamma jammas because they weren't going to get any smaller.

As an adult I love my lips. They're full, succulent and I bet some folks wish they didn't have to use collagen to get theirs like these. ;-)

If you think about it, there are several people who learned to embrace what they had and ran with it. J-Lo did it. She grew up being told her butt was too big. Now it's an asset (no pun intended) that she doesn't want to lose.

And what about Will Smith? He's been teased about his ears and learned to joke about himself during the TV sitcom, "The Fresh Prince Of Belair," and now no one even cares about his ears.

My point is, we have to learn to love our bodies and turn those negative feelings around into positive images.

For every negative thing someone points out about themelves, someone else may love that trait. And sometimes quirky things actually turn out to be quite beautiful.

Don't believe me? Look at this picture of Lauren London. Isn't she adorable? Just look at those dimples!

Uh huh... Well, did you know that dimples are actually birth defects?

How can I be down with a pair of the most exclusive Air Force 1s on the planet?

A special edition of the sneaker was made for employees of Vibe Magazine, and their friends & families to celebrate the magazine’s accomplishments.

The sneaker actually came out a few years back (2003), but I would still rock these on any given Sunday if someone just a *ahem* happened to send them to me... you know... I'm just saying.

The sneaker boasts a photo of Tupac Shakur on the tag and is featured in the magazine's official colors.

Herbie Hancock Still Has It

Herbie Hancock performed last Wedneday at the Hampton Beach Casino. He played relentlessly for a very appreciative audience that sucked in every musical note while screaming for more.

Fans are excited that Herbie is back in the states, as this is just his third American stop after spending some time in Europe for his "Rivers of Possibilities" tour.

To accompany his wonderful jazz music, the following performers joined Herbie's show: singer Sonya Kitchell, saxophonist Chris Potter, singer Amy Keys, bass player Dave Holland and drummer Vinnie Colaiuta.

The audience was on its feet the whole time.

Although Amerie is currently working on album number four, she took a studio break to attend the charity suaree hosted by America Ferrera on Saturday at LA nightclub, The Avalon.

Other celebs that made the occasion are Jamie Pressly, Tila Tequila, Katherine Heigl, Emily Deschanel, Antonio Sabato, Jr., Neil Patrick Harris, Alison Sweeney, Elijah Kelley, Jason Biggs, Teairra Mari and many more.

Madness Surrounding Mo'Nique's Weight

Oh boy, BBW everywhere are hopping mad and the rumor mill is blazing hot on this issue.

There is a rumor that comedian Mo'Nique is having/has had weight loss surgery. For years Mo'Nique has had major success campaigning for fat girls all across the globe.

She has penned books, hosted a show on television featuring a plus sized beauty pageant, and let's not forget how the comedian became well-known for her whole segment dedicated to being a BBW in her comedy act for the movie "Queens of Comedy."

All that being said, several of her fans who have been riding the big girl bandwagon with the former Parkers sitcom star, are feeling a bit betrayed.

I guess I can understand to a degree. If you are pushing something you don't believe in and you gain much success doing so, your fans may feel like you are a fraud.

But what about if you believed in it all until something changed? IF the rumor is in fact true, who says Mo'Nique wasn't told she had to have surgery? Would these fans feel the same say if she developed high blood pressure or diabetes? Would they encourage their favorite big girl comedian to do what she had to do to save her health?

Or would they dish the dirt while sitting around eating Ben & Jerry's, being pissed off and feeling bad for themselves and thinking they lost their very own spokesperson?

It's interesting to see the outrage at just the rumor that Mo'Nique may be getting the procedure done. I remember when Keri Russell cut her hair and fans of her show 'Felicity', went berserk and soon the show was canceled.

I'll be curious to see how things play if if Mo'Nique has in fact lost weight - which by the way, I believe is fantastic (see below).

Spotlight: Ginuwine - Making of Baby (Dil Deewana)

A couple months ago Ginuwine set out to target a whole new audience (Indian) with the song "Baby (Dil Dewana)" featuring Neha Dhupia. He worked with producer Shayal, and the song was released on August 4^th via HMV & digital download.

The Indian model/actress is the former Femina Miss India (Miss India Universe) 2002.

Ginuwine speaks about the video, and the eruption of R&B music in the Indian and Asian markets.

I am feeling the beat and well, the song too actually. It's different. Check out the video and let me know what you think.

I'm not sure how I feel about this one. The summary does nothing for me at all, but the trailer makes me think this is a cute 'feel-good' movie.

I'm thinking I'll wait for this one to go to DVD.

Summary: Ice Cube stars as Curtis Plummer, a down-on-his-luck former high school football star, who turns his niece, Jasmine, into the quarterback of the local children's football team, the Minden Browns.

After putting in some work with Jasmine, she picks up the sport quickly and he gets his stride back as team coach and as his ponytail-wearing star helps lead his team of misfits to victory.

Kings Of The South Unite

If you're a hip hop fan, then you probably have knowledge of the Ludacris vs T.I. beef on wax. Both talented rappers have been battling over the title King of The South for quite some time now.

It was even touched upon during the third installment of a documentary called Beef.

Seems like the two are following in the footsteps of rap giants Nas and Jay-Z and putting their differences behind them in order to paper chase.

Luda commented:

“There’s a time and place for everything, and now is the time. This [upcoming] album, Theater of the Mind, is an event, and all the songs on it are events.

"I felt like there was no bigger event in hip-hop at this moment than me and T.I. working together.”

Lisa Raye's Marriage Drama

Hmm... After hanging out at Bria's spot and reading up on Lisa Raye's drama with her soon-to-be-ex hubby, Michael Misick, I then received the above video from my sister and all I can think of is WTH? Did she say rape? What rape? Who's been raped?

According to the video Lisa seemed to think she could work things out. Now I understand you want to stand by your man and all that jazz, but I'm thinking I might have a problem if my man is accused of rape (Speaking of which, Kobe isn't it time you bought Vanessa another big ass ring for staying around through all that drama??)

IMO, something has been fishy with this dude, Honorable Chief Minister Michael Misick, since the engagement...

I thought this mess was supposed to be an amicable divorce, but I guess that's an oxymoron now isn't it? And how did 106 & Park's Rocsi get in the mix? Boy I tell you, people are just crazy these days carrying on with all this scandal.

So anyway, a statement was released from Misick's camp stating:

"Last night LisaRaye, her cousin Phillip Travis, and her publicist Lynn Jetter assaulted the guard at the Premier’s (Misick's) home, proceeded to ransack the house, and then assaulted the Premier and his sister. As the result of her assault on them, both the Premier and his sister were taken to the hospital with injuries and later released.

The Premier at no time had any physical contact with LisaRaye.

It is public knowledge that the couple has been separated for months, and LisaRaye has no lawful right to be in the residence. Her conduct yesterday clearly contradicts her stated commitment to dissolve the marriage amicably."

Now if this is true, I'm not really surprised because we all know Lisa Raye got some gangsta in her for sure (just like sister).

I wish Lisa Raye the best because it sounds like she's going to need it.

Old School Friday: Political/Socio-Political Songs

99 Luftballoons was a song that spoke upon political hysteria (much like what we experience today). It was about a woman and a friend purchasing 99 red balloons in a store and setting them free ... just because.

Well, the balloons show up as UFOs on military radar and set off a political panic, which in turn causes a red alert for nuclear war. Initially, I had no idea what the song was about since I'd first heard it in German (back in the day I fell in love with the beat first), but once the English version was released, it stayed on my favorites list for quite some time.

Most people know UB40 for their hit "Red, Red Wine," but the group has written several socio-political songs touching upon various ills of society. One of my favorites is their cut "One In Ten" which touches upon the singer's ire at being a statistic of Britain's unemployment rate.

So, I'm driving through Sough Carolina last week, and I see this HUGE billboard of Barack Obama and it reads: "Barack Obama, the new Benedict Arnold."

I was actually too busy reading it and saying, "OMG! WTH?" to take a photo of it (sorry), but I wanted to mention it here.

I'm actually finding it very hard to believe that I haven't seen a blog about this anywhere else because there's got to be a Barack Supporter who resides in South Carolina somewhere ... right?

I mean this thing was so obnoxious I thought it seemed way larger than the surrounding billboards (of course it wasn't), and it was prominently displayed right there on I-85 screaming, "Hey! Look at me!"

I wanted to throw an enormous tarp over it.

I couldn't for the life of me figure out why Obama would be accused of having committed treason or even be linked with Benedict Arnold.

I mean do people who compare the two really know what they're talking about? Has Obama tried to trade secrets or turn the US over to a rival country? Do they really think he's plotting to sell out the US? Better yet, hasn't every president during your lifetime done it so far? *sigh*

This is just another example of the f**kery going on in politricks. I can't wait until the polls open.

That was the total for a 10-hour drinking binge that included 50 magnums of vintage Dom Perignon champagne, costing $6,000 each, 24 bottles of tequila at $930 each and 10 bottles of $4,000 cognac.

I'm thinking I couldn't hang in Hollywood. I'd be dead in less than a week with all the alcohol (not to mention pharmaceuticals) they consume.

Kelly Rowland paid a tab for just under $400,000 ain St. Tropez, France for her guests. While the bar bill skyrocketed, Kelly refused to close the tab and was, of course a gracious hostess.
