He can do 4 out of the 5 BG dailies, and usually win it, plus the Spirits of Auchindoun daily, and he'll start exploring more of Northrend to get to level 65, which should open the Dalaran cooking dailies and maybe the fishing daily, too.

I think I can do the Skywing escort if I can prevent Skywing from getting knocked down to the ground, but that's a bit tricky...

Later I'll post a montage of a bunch of times I've used Rocket Boots Xtreme + levitation to travel around for the Fire Festival.

Addendum: Reinisch was able to get neutral with Garadar, something Noor was never able to do with Telaar. Not many extra quests yet, but there are some gray ! that I should be able to do at 65 or 66.

Brian Westleyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14191964121225569563noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3034669300733932497.post-38092173453791460202009-06-23T14:41:00.000-07:002009-06-23T14:43:40.417-07:00Yay! Buggy Midsummer Fire FestivalResetting the fires has allowed me to get ALL the fires again, so I've gotten most of them twice. Someone even asked in the blizzard forums if re-doing fires is ok, and it is.

Anyway, Reinisch hit 60. He doesn't have enough to train fast riding, but with the 550G discount projected for the next patch, he may stick with ol' blue until the next patch.

Brian Westleyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14191964121225569563noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3034669300733932497.post-76243594029622400292009-06-21T08:10:00.000-07:002009-06-24T21:33:08.747-07:00Argh! Buggy Midsummer Fire FestivalThe quests from last year haven't reset, so (at the moment) I can't revisit all the fires I did last year. This will probably be hotfixed, since people need achievements for the special mount...more later.

OK, it's later. I managed to get all the fires that I didn't do last year (including the new ones in Northrend), and Blizzard will probably make the fires done last year doable again after a hotfix, which should get me about another level in XP. Currently, with Fire Festival quests and a few new ones that opened up, I've gone up about 4 levels.

OK, now it's the next day, and it looks like I can turn in A Thief's Reward <s>every day, at least until they fix it</s> again, because of the Fire Festival quest reset.

Brian Westleyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14191964121225569563noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3034669300733932497.post-49928515962305800192009-06-18T15:40:00.000-07:002009-06-18T17:49:21.987-07:00Upcoming patch 3.2 and Battleground XPPatch 3.2, now on the PTR, should finally allow "pacifists" to grind by getting XP for attaining various battleground objectives. No indication how much XP, but Blizzard is probably doing this, at least in part, to help people get to 80 before the next expansion, so it should be non-trivial. I'll see if I can test it out on the PTR, but old BGs are usually empty on the PTR. UPDATE: official word is that it will be somewhat slower than questing or grinding, but that's miles ahead of my options now!

Flag capping has been reduced from 10 seconds to 8 seconds, so I might lose my Glyph of Psychic Scream, which increases the duration from 8 to 10 seconds and adds 8 seconds to the cooldown. I often use it to try and cap a flag, so having it last as long as it takes to cap really helps. But with the shorter cap time, it won't be worth it. (On the other hand, most everyone else already thinks this glyph is worthless).

Brian Westleyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14191964121225569563noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3034669300733932497.post-10990556183103800212009-06-05T14:56:00.000-07:002009-06-05T15:04:15.662-07:00Of twinks and botsLeveling without killing things is such a strange way to play that it practically forces me to be a semi-twink; I need to win daily battlegrounds, even if I'm near the bottom of the bracket, so gearing myself up as much as possible makes sense. When I run out of quests, I can mine & fish to raise cash for gear.

I've also "needed" bots for a few quests; Reinisch just did Broodling Essence exactly the same way that Noor did -- by following a hunter bot around Burning Steppes and zapping Broodling Whelps before the hunter kills it. Last easily doable quest for him, too, just got him to level 52 with the followup letter delivery.

Brian Westleyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14191964121225569563noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3034669300733932497.post-13875877022464932692009-06-01T17:52:00.000-07:002009-06-04T16:00:21.972-07:00Getting out of combatLevel 50, like all multiples of 10, opens up a lot of new quests, some of which I can actually do. The runecloth turn-ins alone got me 40% of the way to level 51.

I managed to do a couple of difficult quests that had items I could only use while out-of-combat -- a bit tricky since I can't kill mobs, and I don't have a race/class ability like Vanish/Feign Death/Divine Intervention/Shadowmeld/mage Invisibility. However, as an engineer, I can use the Gnomish Cloaking Device, which does get me out of combat; well, usually...

The first was Scarlet Diversions, which by the comments on wowhead.com is pretty difficult for a player in his mid-50s, because it has a lot of mobs in one area with melee & ranged attacks, plus medic NPCs that heal everybody.

This quest is in two parts, even though the quest progress only has one completion (which ALSO caused some problems). You need to use Flame in a Bottle to burn the tent, and then plant a Scourge banner so the Scarlet Crusade will blame the Scourge.

I burned the tent the first time by just charging in a using the bottle before dying -- it acts like a spellcast, so it gets pushed back but continues during combat, instead of aborting. I saw the tent burn animation before releasing, but when I got back, then tent was back. I tried a couple more times using a target dummy, but even after doing it, I couldn't plant the Scourge banner because it said I was in combat.

I was ready to give up, but then (going by wowhead comments) I figured I could probably try the banner after I rezzed, if I could figure out how to get close enough without getting into combat. Mind Soothe didn't let me get close enough, so I decided to activate my Goblin Cloaking Device and run into the tent. It worked! I didn't even come out of cloaking when I started using the banner, which almost always happens when you try to do anything while cloaked. An invisibility potion probably would have worked too, since you can start planting the banner while invisible.

The other quest was All Along the Watchtowers, a quest Noor couldn't get to because the Alliance version has a killing prerequisite (the Horde prereq is Scarlet Diversions). Again, using a torch meant I had to be out of combat, and with ghouls outside and a (formerly elite) Skeletal Warlord inside each tower, that was a problem.

After a number of deaths, I hit on this tactic: die inside a tower and rez on the top of the broken steps inside (the warlord can't figure out how to get to me at the top steps, so I can buff up). Go down the steps and cast Shackle Undead on the warlord (until it takes; he's 6-7 levels higher than me). Then go near the door (still on the inside) and hope I go out-of-combat before the shackle fails so I can use the torch.

Eventually, I was able to do all the towers, but it was something of a grind. With some of the Redpath quests, I got to level 51, which means I can now do the AV battleground daily.

Brian Westleyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14191964121225569563noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3034669300733932497.post-89072949465957140812009-05-31T19:31:00.000-07:002009-05-31T19:38:15.567-07:00Reinisch hits 50With the Midsummer Fire Festival approaching, I decided to get all the flight paths in Outland, and after doing that, I was only 4 bars from level 50, so I explored most of what was left of Azeroth (Silithus, EPL, WPL, etc) and hit level 50. This puts me in the next BG bracket, so I had to say goodbye to Worf, a 49 twink Hunter who can hold off half a dozen Alliance at times.

I powerleveled engineering to 375, so now I have Rocket Boots Xtreme Lite and Foreman's Enchanted Helmet. If I hang out at the Lumber Mill in Arathi Basin, I should be able to get to any node in trouble using my boots and Levitate.

Brian Westleyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14191964121225569563noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3034669300733932497.post-38679564601055734232009-05-28T21:46:00.000-07:002009-05-29T21:01:25.086-07:00Chasing A-Me 01I was finally able to do the last part of Chasing A-Me 01 when I checked and saw that most of the apes were gone. A-Me only had to deal with about 4 apes, all outside the cave, and a couple of tar pit elementals near the end. An level 51 Night Elf (Triblade) even helped with the last tar pit elemental right near the end.

A player named Fionn in Thunder Bluff put out a Foam Sword Rack; if only the swords didn't vanish when you log out like all conjured items, it would be a perfect weapon for Reinisch (and Noor).

Addendum: I was also able to finally complete Screecher Spirits while it was still green; a couple of high-level Alliance characters were running around killing all the mobs, which allowed me to finally finish it.

Brian Westleyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14191964121225569563noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3034669300733932497.post-49508937501011111632009-05-26T17:36:00.000-07:002009-05-26T17:52:15.083-07:00Some gray questsBoth Rotting Hearts and Spinal Dust are quests that can be completed by buying unbound drops; I didn't know this until I saw them in the auction house under "quest items". Very little XP by now, but still, it's the principle.

It looks like Reinisch will hit the Midsummer Fire Festival at level 49, just like Noor did last year, which should help boost him to level 60 or so soon after. Assuming Reinisch has the same success/failure with faction friendliness (he also won't be able to get to Hellfire Fortifications), he'll be able to do Spirits of Auchindoun as a daily starting at level 62 (not 63 as wowhead.com claims). The Dalaran cooking daily should start at level 65, and at level 70 lots will open up

Brian Westleyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14191964121225569563noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3034669300733932497.post-11519968365014336932009-05-17T14:46:00.000-07:002009-05-17T14:49:50.168-07:00Reinisch doing quest: Into the Depths

To do Into the Depths, you have to go down the righthand circular staircase in the Sunken Temple and interact with the Altar of Hakkar.

Noor did this using stealth; Reinisch just followed the patrolling serpent down, then activated his Goblin Rocket Boots & Cloaking Device, and quaffed a Lesser Invisibility Potion just before de-cloaking. With the old world Children's Week quests and the last of Noblegarden, plus the imperfect AND perfect Draenethyst fragments from Kum'isha, and a little more exploring of Azshara and Felwood, I hit 46 a day later. I wanted to hit level 46 so I could take 2 points in the talent Body and Soul for WSG runners. Of course, now I want to hit 47 so I can wear both of my Freezing Bands, which are now generic +18 spellpower and the freezing proc.

Update: After Noor did both the Azeroth and Shattrath orphan chains for Children's Week, I realized that I never did the Azeroth orphan chain on either Noor or Reinisch last year! I've done the first one (Owlbears in Hinterlands) and I've gotten a few of the hippogryphs. Noor was never able to get Screecher Spirits done, and Reinisch still has it, but it looks like he'll be hanging around Feralas a while, so maybe he'll get lucky.

Addendum: I've been able to do all the Muisek quests except the last one, which involved corpses of the elite giants in the northern region of Feralas, and I still haven't been able to do Screecher Spirits.

Brian Westleyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14191964121225569563noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3034669300733932497.post-10123530110492723412009-03-21T12:48:00.000-07:002009-03-21T12:51:52.484-07:00Mithril OrderAfter saving up too much copper and not quite enough mithril (and no steel bars), Reinisch went back to blacksmithing for a few hours and did the Mithril Order chain to get about 80% of a level in XP. When I finally completed it, I was only about 2500 points away from level 40, so I explored more of Tanaris to hit 40. I was able to buy the mats needed to take Elemental Leatherworking, which got me more points that Noor missed (she did it well before level 40, so it wasn't practical to keep it for the leatherworking specialization quests that start at level 40).

I'll probably re-take mining for a bit to get more copper bars before dropping it yet again and doing the blacksmith chain.

Brian Westleyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14191964121225569563noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3034669300733932497.post-72385615265663900472009-02-15T21:10:00.000-08:002009-02-15T21:18:39.227-08:00I ♥ HOTsReinisch (and before him, Ahimsah) has recently done two escort quests that Noor could never do; Galen's Escape and Get me out of Here! Galen is especially hated for strolling right through the Broken Ones' village and getting attacked by, uh, hordes of attackers.

I successfully completed both quests, even though I died twice during each escort; my heals-over-time were enough to keep them alive while I ran back from the graveyard. I was also careful to pull off extra attackers at the right time by using healing aggro; Melizza from the second escort drew two patrols at the same time, with five attackers on her at one point, but I managed to heal her through it. Both quests took over half an hour each.

Brian Westleyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14191964121225569563noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3034669300733932497.post-47538787549479100062009-02-08T19:35:00.000-08:002009-02-10T21:48:40.236-08:00Mekgineer's ChopperI managed to give a ride to a level 12 Draenai named Seliis to all the flight paths in the Eastern Kingdoms, and he only died twice -- once when he disconnected and ended up on the road alone in Arathi Highlands and I was unable to keep the spiders off of him, and once in Eastern Plaguelands when a patrol of elites from Tyr's Hand killed him before I even saw them. The only difficulty is that I can't tell if my passenger is in combat or not, so it's harder to tell if it's safe to stop.

On our way through Deadwind Pass, we drove through about 10 horde going the other way; one of them (a mage) tried to kill me, but with about 23k hitpoints and still on the move, he didn't come close.

Brian Westleyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14191964121225569563noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3034669300733932497.post-854477441694847052009-02-03T15:18:00.000-08:002009-02-03T15:19:11.822-08:00Getting to Shaper's Terrace in Un'Goro CraterI can't get to the quest that sends you to Shaper's Terrace, which is up above Marshal's Refuge in Un'Goro Crater, but I can get there using my parachute cloak, boots with Nitro Boosts and Rocket Boots Xtreme...

(some waiting for cooldowns edited out)

Brian Westleyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14191964121225569563noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3034669300733932497.post-62115364269246966222009-02-01T15:00:00.000-08:002009-02-01T15:06:58.583-08:00D'oh! redeauxIn getting back to Reinisch, I had to run out and make the exact same dumb mistake I made with Noor; I forgot to wield my fishing rod when running naked through dangerous areas...

In this case, Reinisch went back to Moonglade and noticed that the flight path didn't connect yet; since he's a Goblin engineer and would need to get to Everlook at some point, I decided to take off my clothes and run through the furbolg tunnel.

The same thing happened -- I tried to use my net-o-matic on a furbolg, we both got netted, and I started auto-punching him. Luckily, Noor ran into him there a few hours before the party so they could chat.

At the party: Mephisston, Ving, Pureblade just made it, Lucyindasky came fashionably late, Wildbill came even later due to computer problems, someone named Allkurne came, and a number of new members of <The Pacifist> guild: Wdori, Paprikka, Rattata, Turinqui, Shantiselkie, and Truece.

Horde guests were Reinisch (me, but AFK), Ahimsah, Ddori (translating for horde via Wdori), all from The Venture Co realm, and Phobomancer, Ugora, and Femalice, level 80s native to Maiev.

I still need to get the Westfall Chicken pet for the horde guests, so Phobomancer, Ugora, and Femalice, if you see Noor and you want to get the chicken, just do /chicken at her and I'll /nod if I can do it then.

Plus, after the party I gave level 1 Wildbill a wild ride in my Mechgineer's Chopper from Ironforge to Stormwind. By the time we were done, he was level 3 just from exploring.

Brian Westleyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14191964121225569563noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3034669300733932497.post-26376704742034954982009-01-31T10:01:00.000-08:002009-01-31T10:02:57.606-08:00Party today!Just a reminder...

4 PM server time (US Pacific time) on Maiev in Moonglade (do the Lunar Festival quest to get there)

Whisper Noor or Rococo for a guild invite; you can take 1G out of the guild bank to do the Lunar Fest quest

Brian Westleyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14191964121225569563noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3034669300733932497.post-63435820795473165652009-01-13T20:40:00.000-08:002009-01-25T15:05:10.898-08:00Part EI'm planning on pinging 80 on January 31, the second Saturday of Lunar Festival, at 4 PM server time (server is appropriately on US Pacific time). I'll hit 80 by talking to Valadar Starsong in Nighthaven, the town in Moonglade.

Anyone reading this blog can come. If you want, you can just show up at Moonglade by the questgiver Valadar Starsong, though to get the invitation, you'll need to buy at least 3 silver worth of fireworks, so you might need to level up a bit.

However, you can whisper me, or my banker Rococo, and I'll invite you into my guild. You won't be able to take items out of the guild bank, but you can withdraw 1 gold from it to buy fireworks, and you can invite friends into the guild (as long as the free 1 gold doesn't get out of hand)

If you want to come as a Horde character, you can see if my level 1 Maiev version of Reinisch is online, but since he's on another person's account that I'm mooching off of for this ocassion, I won't be on him as often. He has a guild ("Pacifist" instead of "The Pacifist" since guild names can't be identical even across factions), and he will be at the party, too (but AFK most of the time). Since he won't have a guild bank, Reinisch will have to mail or hand out money.

It would probably be better, especially for people wanting to attend as Horde, to try and set things up on this blog by leaving messages. This will allow me to mail you money instead of needing both of us on at the same time.

If it is close to the start of the party and you do not yet have a character created, create an Alliance character. Reinisch will probably be AFK, while Noor (or any other Alliance partier) can invite you from any of the starting areas and you can just head to the nearest capital city and withdraw a gold to do the quest to get to Moonglade.

Invited Guest List

I'll be inviting specific players to attend, some on Maiev, some from other realms.

All guests that appear to be active players should have gotten an invitation today (Sunday, Jan 25) on Maiev, with party gifts. I'll send out a reminder email on the day of the party.

People from other realms attending as Alliance level 1 alts on my guest list can join The Pacifist guild, withdraw up to 10 gold, and use items in the first guild tab (clothes, offhand items, fishing rods, etc). Horde level 1 alts can join the Pacifist guild, can get 10 gold, and Reinisch will have many of the same items (but no guild bank).

Here is the proposed guest list; if I have forgotten anyone, please remind me and I'll add you.

Gweryc (haven't been able to contact yet; you there, Gweryc?)
Gutrot (but I really can't contact him, he's on a EU server)

From Maiev:
Alliance:
Ving, maker of fine leather goods (and potions, via an alt)
Pureblade,
Lucyindasky, and
Rubyßagonya, Auchindoun tower dailies
Coopthar, quest helper as healer
Karlana, Mekgineer's Chopper mechanic (it would take me 8 months to grind the reputation)
Horde:
Phobomancer, Noor fan and fellow zombie (for a while)
Ugora and
Femalice, more fans

Formerly from Maiev:
Mephisston, Scarab Lord of Maiev
Wildbill, engineer of my Goblin Rocket Helmet and many Flash Bombs when I didn't have the know-how

From The Venture Co (Reinisch's realm)
Reinisch, my pacifist undead priest
Ddori, fan and quest helper, and will act as Horde translator via a gnome warlock Wdori.
Ahimsah, co-pacifist quester with Reinisch, she's 5 levels higher than Reinisch!

From El's Anglin
El (also unlikely due to EU server)

From wowinsider
Lisa Poisso, 15 minutes of fame writer

Other WOW oddballs (some probably inactive)
Paitaar, pacifist Draenei priest (also unlikely due to EU server)
Peacewalker, pacifist druid (apparently retired)
The Other Ranger, another melee hunter (apparently retired)
Lintilla the pacifist, another pacifist (apparently retired)
Triops, a melee warlock (apparently retired)
Meleeonly
Rabbi (below level 10) (apparently retired)
Loben (below level 10) (apparently retired)

(to be added)

Brian Westleyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14191964121225569563noreply@blogger.com11tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3034669300733932497.post-28040479078462970472009-01-13T20:16:00.000-08:002009-01-31T20:31:38.465-08:00LEVEL 79.995212!OK, I'm currently 1,633,655 points into level 79, with another 37,100 XP in completed quests that I haven't turned in yet, which will bring me to 1,670,755 points, or 45 points away from level 80 (update: see below).

I won't turn in the other completed quests until I'm all done gathering the coins for the Lunar Festival, in case I accidentally get more XP from exploring. I won't group, and I've even taken off my Freezing Bands because if a mob hits me and freezes, the damage can tag it, even if someone else kills the mob (this happened to me once in Terokkar).

Here are the quests Noor did to get from level 78 to level 80 (minus 0.002154)
Smoke 'Em Out (20750 XP)
Planning For The Future (now green; 16250 XP)
Preparing For The Worst (now green; 16250 XP)
Gaining the Advantage (5050 XP)
Spirits of Auchindoun (21600 XP)
Mustard Dogs!
