Anna Friel for Vanity Fair (a teensy bit NSFW)

We just love the August cover of Vanity Fair, featuring actress Anna Friel. We have to admit we had to look up who she is, and for those of you who don't know, Anna was in the movie "Land of the Lost" and the TV show "Pushing Daisies".
There's a lot of buzz around this shoot, particularly because everyone on the internet is saying she's 'nude'...we consider it more like 'topless', but anyhow...
We wanted to share the few lingerie shots from the feature, along with the gorgeous cover and just a pretty picture of Anna wearing a pink gown.

Stockings; as Interpreted by Katja Mayer

The one common denominator in all of these photos is the standout stockings and hosiery. Photographer Katja Mayer has captured several models wearing decorative thigh highs, perhaps while each was practicing their stretches! Our favorite is the purple pair in the first picture, and of course we always love the vintage-looking seamed stockings. What's interesting is that stockings are such a simple item that make such a dramatic impact, particularly when it comes to fashion photography.

We have these pieces (Truce & Trick Date) available at Faire Frou Frou now!!

We are finally getting around to adding the new pieces from The Lake & Stars to our online store and blog! The pictures in this post represent 2 new groups; Truce and Trick Date.
Basically the Truce pieces are those with the mesh & net strips across the front of the tops. The Trick Date pieces are those with the contrast ribbon trim on the tops (pink with orange ribbon, navy blue with green ribbon). Both groups are just lovely and true to The Lake & Stars style, which is an assortment of modern, feminine and fashion-forward designs.
We actually have the entire collection in stock, but haven't quite gotten everything online as of this moment (should be soon!)...let us know if there's something you're wanting.
You should know that Nikki & Maayan from TLS were featured in the July issue of W Magazine as one of "this year's breakout young designers". Both designers are shown below, along with a model wearing one of their pieces (6th, 7th & 8th from left). Congratulations ladies!!!

We just can't help but post more adorable pinup pictures! It's an addiction! We love it!
We especially love the work of photographer Michael Elins, who is probably best known for his 'vanities' portraits in Vanity Fair. It looks like these fresh-faced models/actresses stepped out of a Vargas painting. The look of these pinup portraits is really a reflection of the styles we are seeing in lingerie/swimwear right now; retro styles, high-waist briefs, garter belts...just like the Christian Dior runway show we posted yesterday.

Lingerie is Taking Over the World of Fashion!

Ahh, we love it! We were so pleased to see that lingerie was the focus and inspiration behind the Christian Dior Couture Fall 2009 runway show. Thanks to WWD, we discovered this gorgeous retro-inspired collection. Designer John Galliano stated that "it all begins with the corset", and from there his models displayed the most intricate, exquisite undies imaginable — hand-made bras, corsets, girdles, garters, tap shorts, stockings (via WWD). Furthermore, Galliano created jackets, skirts, slips, etc. that would deliberately expose the beauty of the undergarments. Once again, we see the 'no pants' look...it won't be long before you and I are pulling this off!

This is such a simple lingerie ensemble, but it works wonders in this shoot! We think it must be the sequin panties! In any event, we think that January Jones is rockin' the lingerie look in this shoot. A sexy black bustier like that should be in every woman's lingerie wardrobe...we need to get ours!

Each piece is a knock-out, and we especially love that the brand is well-priced! Prices range from $30 to $148 (for a chemise)...not bad!

We are currently stocking several of the Tra La La collections, each with a cute name; Catchy Number, Sitting Pretty, Good From Any Angle, Bat Your Eyelashes, Fly Me to the Moon, and Shimmy Over Here. Vogue España and photographer Juan Gatti teamed up to do this adorable Pin-Up photo shoot...so cute! The digital editing makes the photos appear as though they are paintings, which is a nice touch. Unfortunately, we did not find any credits for the lingerie (we can't read the blurry credits shown on the first page)...and we don't really recognize any of the pieces. Our favorite is the white ruffle bikini set, as shown with the white poodle. Pin-up photography is so adorable, no wonder it's such a classic!

We are so excited to share our latest new arrival at Faire Frou Frou, a gorgeous line called Bones and Roses. This new line features a colorful array of robes, wraps and rompers made in a lusciously soft silk charmeuse. The moment we first saw these pieces in person, we knew we had to have it! As cute as it may seem in the pictures, it's that much better in person!

The concept of the line is how opposites attract; bones and roses, edgy and feminine, daywear to nightwear, light against dark. Each piece by Bones and Roses is an example of that dichotomy, particularly since each robe/wrap is reversible. You get two outfits in one! We love that!

Probably our favorite piece is the Audrey Romper, but it's really hard to choose one favorite after trying on each style. We love that these pieces are reversible...you can wear the more dramatic color side at night, and the other side during the day. We have seen the Audrey Romper and the Marilyn Wrap worn as ready-to-wear, and they are amazing.

Bones and Roses is the brainchild of designer Emy Hovanseyan, who was mentored while producing her line by the famous shoe designer Taryn Rose.

Really, what better way to elongate your legs than to just skip wearing pants. Some of the panties we are seeing are too cute, and this is the ultimate way to show them off.
If only we could really think this way, or if only we were Lady Gaga (she is really spearheading this trend). Again, we are seeing a lot of editorial where the model is fully dressed, but simply wearing underwear as a bottom. It's a fun look that we get a kick out of!

This is a cute new lingerie line from the UK called Kiki by Kirsty Doyle. It has all the frou-frou one could possibly want; satin, bows, ruffles and brilliant colors! The designer, Kirsty, established her ready-to-wear line in 2006 (after winning Project Catwalk), and is now introducing lingerie into her repertoire. Her style is a modern look with a touch of 70s flair. Currently the Kiki line has 3 groups, one of which is a Bridal collection.
We have been meaning to share this brand with you for a few months, so it's a pleasure to finally show it!

Eva Herzigova for GQ Italy - August 2008

We are just loving these images of Eva Herzigova from the August 2008 issue of GQ Italy. Shot in Ibiza, this shoot seems reminiscent of that iconic scene from From Here to Eternity. The swimwear and lingerie are perfect, as well as the choice for who to model. We're so happy we discovered these, and wanted to share!
Now if only we knew who designed those adorable white panties with the satin bow!

We love this photo shoot by Corrie Bond because it shows a realistic look of lounging in sexy lingerie. The reality is that we're not hanging out in garter belts and thigh highs all weekend, but more likely relaxing in a cozy sweater and boyshorts (or flannel pants and a college t-shirt!).
The top image is from a shoot she did for Target - we just love how cute this look is! Granted, this look is not quite as common/everyday as the others that we've posted, but it's sweet nonetheless.
Take a cue from Corrie Bond and relax in your skivvies this weekend!

Barbie wears Wundervoll!

We love that Barbie also has a Philippe Starck Louis Ghost Armchair!! our Louis chair is shown in this post.

It must truly be an honor when a young lingerie company such as Wundervoll is asked to design a special ensemble for Barbie's 50th Anniversary! We are so happy for them! We even love the outfit they designed...but we have to wait until Spring 2010 until it hits stores. As for the Wundervoll Barbie, it will be part of the lingerie exhibit "Barbie Undressed" at BOUDOIR (which is a tradeshow in Germany) and then on view at the Galeries Lafayette from June 16-July 28, 2009.
For those of you unfamiliar with the label, it is a high-quality luxury essentials brand from Germany. Most of their pieces are made from a natural silk jersey and organic cotton. The most complete collection of their designs can be bought here.
Wundervoll has received some wonderful press as of late - congratulations!
By the way, in researching for this post, we discovered that Barbie has her own blog...it's pretty cute too (and geared toward more of an adult audience)! Visit it here.

The Evolution of Lingerie

The Fashion and Textile Museum in London is currently hosting an exhibit titled "Undercover: The Evolution of Underwear". The show details how lingerie has evolved over the decades, as influenced by politics, trends and society in general. Some of the featured brands at this exhibit include M&S, Triumph, La Perla, Christian Dior, Elle Macpherson, Myla, Wonderbra and Wundervoll (as well as others).

Mlle. Frou-Frou's Boudoir!!

My (Alison's) newly painted white bedroom floors...it took me 3 days to prep, sand and paint it. Love the results, even though I now have to obsessively clean it! I thought photographing the seersucker shoes would be a fun way of showing the floor.

Crystal perfume bottles on my book cabinet. In the background is my new grey/white Cath Kidston wallpaper, which I also installed myself (never thought I could put up wallpaper!).

Some of my favorite pink bras. I think I have over 90 designer bras in my collection...not bad for owning a lingerie boutique! Bras shown here (top to bottom): Damaris, Mimi Holliday, ID Sarrieri, Fleur T.

A pair of Christian Louboutin heels on my book case. I haven't worn these shoes yet...so in the meantime, they make a cute display piece! Plus, I'm a shoe lover (what woman isn't?).

Mac computer and peonies are most prominently shown...and above the desk is a Le Frou-Frou framed print that I got as a gift 15 years ago (it must have inspired the name of the store!). Also notice the Ghost Armchair...which is surprisingly comfortable!

My Louis Ghost Armchair (which looks extra ghostly here) on a sheepskin rug next to my favorite mirror table from Grace Home Furnishings. On top of the table are a bottle of Laduree champagne and an Ellen von Unwerth photo book. On the wall, a Rene Gruau framed print.

A collection of lovely things. 3 glass balls (from ABC Carpet & Home), mercury glass accents and a hobnail vase (that I took from my mom!).

My 'chinoiserie' book cabinet that I painstakingly put together. It only came in black, so I had to sand it, paint it and assemble it over a period of 2 weeks. I then lined the back of the cabinet with leftover wallpaper. I have so many books that I love, so it's a nice way to show some of them.

Even Chickie got in on the makeover action, getting a new fluffy pink bed from Maxwell Dog (that she loves)!

So many customers enter Faire Frou Frou and ask if my room looks like the store, and I suppose that in a way, it does! At least in terms of the pink!
It's unusual to write a post firsthand, but this is about my (Alison, aka Mlle. Frou-Frou's) room. In a couple of weeks we will also show Madame Frou-Frou (my mom, Gail's) room makeover.
In any event, I am pleased to show the end result of several months work on my 'boudoir'. I love doing home projects, so it was actually kind of fun painting, wallpapering and assembling the new furniture...or at least fun in hindsight. I also wanted to show a bit of my lingerie collection, since the running joke is that I own everything in the store. What can I say, I like what we carry!
I tried to give credit on most of the major pieces as well as links on where to buy.

The Fall Winter 09-10 images for the Eres campaign were recently released, featuring Dutch model Lara Stone. What a perfectly styled shoot, with the bedhead curls and the bedroom eyes. It's likely that these new pieces will start hitting stores in August or thereabouts.

We are working on putting together an event at Faire Frou Frou that will involve shopping, champagne and French lessons! French instructor Monique Aldebert will give guests a mini tutorial on sweet little phrases for your next shopping trip to Paris; teaching essential lingerie terms, how to ask for those necessary directions to Laduree, terms of endearment, and so forth. For example, the French word for bra is 'soutien-gorge'...probably not a lot of Americans know that! At least we all know what the French word for 'lingerie' is!
We will let you know when we set a date for this event.
