An Introduction to Catwel Cardiff

Catwel Cardiff find homes for, and foster, stray and abandoned cats with a view to re-homing them to new permanent and loving homes. We have excellent committed trustees who take their responsibilities seriously. We have a wonderful group of fund raisers who consistently come to all our fund raising events. Then, most important of all, are the people who foster the cats in our care, without whose help the charity would not exist. Last, but not least, are our supporters who donate money and goods to enable us to pay our bills.

Thanks to all these wonderful people, I feel our charity has now become an established fact in the South Wales area and hopefully will go from strength to strength.

Our next Auction will be held on Friday September 5th 2008 at Christ Church Hall, Lake Road North, Cardiff.

Viewing will commence at 6.30pm, the auction will start at 7.15.

On Saturday 26th July Mrs Marjorie Taverner officially opened our new Isolation Unit at Ty Mair, our Rescue Cat Homing Centre. This unit was dedicated to the memory of her Daughter, the late Lynne Taverner. Lynne was a devoted member of our group but sadly died at the young age of 53. During her terminal illness Lynne thought of this Charity and left a £6500 legacy.

This has been used to build our Isolation Unit which will enable sick cats to be segregated thus preventing the possibility of future outbreaks of cat flu and other contagious diseases. A number of our Supporters visited the Centre to witness the event.

Ty Mair, Catwel's Rehoming Centre

Catwel is very proud to present our completed rehoming centre. Made possible by Mary Williams. A very committed Catwel Trustee who sadly passed away in 2002, leaving her property as a legacy to Catwel. It was Mary’s wish that Catwel would someday have a centre located in Cardiff specifically for rescued cats and kittens. Since 2002 Catwel Trustees and Supporters have worked very hard towards ensuring Mary’s dream becomes a reality.

During 2006 Work undertaken to replace fencing and to pave driveway in order to provide off road parking for guests to the centre. Garden levelled and concrete bases laid ready for Isolation Unit and outdoor Cattery Unit.

Temporary housing was installed immediately after purchase and in January 2006 Catwel began to accept Cats into Ty Mair.

In March 2007 our new outside Cattery unit was installed consisting of 6 individually heated pens. (Also pictured is the specially designed enclosure for our Sponsor Cats!!!)

March 2008 – Isolation Unit. Made possible by the generosity of Lynne Taverner, a very committed Catwel supporter. Sadly Lynne passed away in 2006, graciously remembering Catwel in her will.

This area allows Catwel to completely isolate any sick cats and kittens. This minimises the possible spread of any virus or infection which may be prevalent in any of the cats or kittens at the centre.

The bungalow has now been transformed. Three of the four bedrooms provide Catwel with a centrally heated indoor Quarantine area, utility area, office and W.C.

The centre is run totally by extremely committed volunteers ensuring that the welfare of all cats in care is paramount.

Remembering Clawdine

Clawdine 1991 - 2007

Janet and Pendre Sims, of Llandaff North, Cardiff, have made a donation to CATWEL in memory of their cat Clawdine, who died recently.

Clawdine was rescued as a young cat and had a long and happy life. She was beautiful, loving and so sociable that she had a very large human fan club!

Greatly loved, and sadly missed.

We are grateful to Janet and Pendre for choosing to remember Clawdine by helping us help needy Cardiff cats.
