Same rights, different name. This is something every middle schooler can tell you. It's called the Transitive property: a=b, b=c, a=c. Please don't distort the discussion by comparing civil unions with segregation; it doesn't apply at all and indicates a general lack of intellectual integrity. He recalls the fact that when his parents were married, their inter-racial marriage was still illegal in some states. He says he is about hope and equality, and bringing America together. And then he says he thinks same sex couples should get civil unions with all the rights of marriage, but not marriage. Suddenly separate IS equal. Marriage rights don't matter. Maybe if his parents were told that they could only have a civil union that would have been ok. Maybe if Obama and his wife could only have a civil union because of their race, that would be ok. He is a hyprocrite. And too smart not to know it.
