Goodbye Blogger - We're @ Army of Id Now!

It has been fun, if neglectful times, here on the old blogger blog.

However, all good things must come to an end, and this is one of them.

You see, our main site, Army of Id has been made over, with a funky new Joomla! back end.

So... we can add all the updates and news we like there, so that makes this Blog pretty redundant.

Roll on the web 2.0 revolution, and thanks for the outlet Blogger.

PS: Adsense is pretty irritating. If you have any requirement for digital strategy, TV Production, music composition or general video and audio post production, we suggest you completely ignore the banner ad above this post and just contact us directly.

But you're an intelligent person, and you know this.

New Audio Post and Video Production Suite

We are delighted to report that our launch for our new audio booth and video suite went down very well with all who attended. All things being equal, everybody seems to have had a great time, fuelled with lots of Tiger Beer and Kopparberg Cider supplied by the good people at Richmond Marketing.

Music on the night was provided with DJ sets from Steve Whiteside and Alex Meehan, who cut some choice mixes to visuals we projected onto our White Cyche Wall.
That's Camille & Debbie on the left, Camille recorded some cracking tunes, written by Philly Campbell, with us last year.

Some special mention should be made to Fiona & Aidan of Nostromo Restaurant, who did a great (and timely!!) job of catering to the masses, and the soakage provided probably helped prevent things getting out of hand too early!!

Those of you who have ventured out to deStudio facilities will of course recognise Ian Murphy, below left, and Catherine and Ivan. Catherine is shown below demoing Tiger and Kopparberg with Jonathan's wonderful girlfriend, Rachel. (Purely for Marketing reasons).

Ian is there on the left, he had much success fundraising on the night for (allegedly) worthy causes, and Ivan is on the right, reverse engineering the Tiger brewing process.

Hats off to you both, boys. Ivan is also pictured in our wonderful new Audio booth, but we forgot to get more of that in the pics, so we'll come back to it again.

Some Kind of Special Order of Merit has been conferred on Kyle O Connell from How's That, an excellent production Company based in Greystones.

That's him on the right, and Camille's buddy (and seeming manager...) Roxy to the left.
Kyle, we respect your party ethic and stamina, and Salute You. Kyle totally rocks in our book.

All that I can say to sum up is that I really enjoyed myself, and that's all that matters...
No really, big up to all who made it, and we've decided it was so much fun we're going to do more of it again. Maybe not on a Wednesday. Watch this space...

Audio Post Facility - New Recruit

Army of Id are pleased to announce the addition of audio post production
to their extensive facilities.
This new department will be headed by Jonathan Darby,
formally a post mixer at Slate Post Production.
The Pro Tools suite will be available to cater for all types of audio post
at very competitive rates, with high quality mics and preamps for voiceover work.

We are in the process of building a recording booth at the moment, and when it is completed we will post back on how it looks!

A Camping Tale

Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson are on a camping trip. After setting up their tent, they fall asleep. Hours later, Holmes suddenly wakes his faithful companion.

Our Colleague and Director Supremo Ian Murphy took some last minute time off to catch U2 on the last leg of their tour in Hawaii.

As it was the last gig everyone was in a really good mood. Almost nobody in the pit was Hawaiian and we all got on really well. It may have been influenced by the smell of pot that wafted across the crowd every now and then. I of course was a mini-celeb, since I lived in the same city as the band (very easy to impress Americans). Last gig meant the celebrities (all personal friends of mine) were out in force ...the richest man in the world Bill Gates, Madonna, Kylie, Green Day, Mick Jagger, Claudia Schiffer, Pierce Brosnan, Cindy Crawford, Helena Christensen, Kevin Spacey, David Bowie, Kid Rock, Brad and Angelina, Quintin Ahern, Mark Grace, Britney Spears, Christina Aguleria, Bon Jovi, politicians (you know how Bono likes to mix) and loads of B-list that I wouldn't know of course! ...They canoodled in the celeb enclosure drinking cocktails talking bout how much room there was in their private jets while I wrecked it up front!

Nat's flickr site (accessed from the pic above) documents the recent arrival of my niece's daughter, Aisha Zara, amongst other events.

He is a strong advocate of the use of film and chemical photography (as opposed to digital techniques and equipment) and some of the work convincingly reflects the strengths of this medium. He also has a fridge full of discontinued and obselete film formats, much to the delight of the whole family, no doubt.

Glyder 'PUP' Promo Video

We shot this crazy rawck video for Irish band Glyder, and it is for their single PUP (Pretty Useless People) which takes a stab at the rise of talentless people appearing on TV.

Came home tonight, turned on the TV, and there it was. Imagine my suprise... it was on 6, the new Irish cable channel, and is due more plays elsewhere soon. I'm delighted it's doing the business for the lads, they are really sound and definately deserve a break.

It's all their concept also. Filming comprised two gruelling 14 hour shoot days, and about 3 X 16 hour edit days were involved. This is the final edit.

My Brother lives in Hungary now, where he is in the property development game. I'm sure a blog is in the way for him also, however, I would like to quote from an email he sent regarding the 'little differences' when ordering your trusty burger out there....

To those of you who would venture forth to this gentle land, fair warning is due to parry indelicacies that may arise from time to time, owing to certain linguistic coincidences.

The word in Hungarian for cheese is here pronounced shite, admittedly with a slight extra emphasis on the “i” sound. This unlucky sleight of chance may precipitate unwelcome awkwardness in ordinary social situations, but nowhere is hilarity more guaranteed than your bog-standard trip to Mickey Dees.

You see, this is the only place on the planet where its completely orthodox to walk into McDonalds, set your facial features to “perfectly serious”, and ask politely for a “s-h-i-t-e-b-u-r-g-e-r”. Your trustee Mc Purveyor will not so much as flinch; no raised eyebrow, no bellowing for security, no grave warnings about mockery of the hallowed name etc. The more likely response will be the equivalent of; “yawl wan’ fries with that”, or an offer to “super-size” you.

Whether the appellation “Mc Shiteburger” works best as Truth or Metaphor, THIS REPORTER will leave to the judgement of the esteemed reader. The only dissimilating grace in this cruelly ironic twist is that “cheese”, in written Hungarian, appears as “s-a-j-t”, a spelling not even James Joyce himself would discern. If nothing else, the earnest traveller is afforded a unique opportunity to practice the delicate arts of sang-froid in the most trying of circumstances. Consider yourselves forewarned!
