Fall and Holiday Jim Shore Figurines

It seems a bit early but we here at Beacon's Glow Collectibles have been receiving in several shipments of Jim Shore Figurines, specifically Jim Shore Christmas and Jim Shore Halloween & Fall figurines.

Jim Shore has introduced a wonderful collection of Christmas items to include many holiday ornaments that are miniature versions of some of his most popular pieces. These include: Black Cat hanging ornament; Pink flamingo ornament; Pineapple hanging ornament; and Santa with Baby Jesus ornament to name just a few.

In regards to Jim Shore's Halloween pieces he has introduced 2 new pieces from the ever popular Walt Disney 'Nightmare Before Christmas' to include Sally, and Jack. These pieces would be appropriate for either Halloween or Christmas display.

And as is usually the case, several new Disney Traditions figurines have been added to both the Christmas and Halloween collections. Both Mickey Mouse and Tinkerbell continue to delight collectors with Jim Shore's wonderful depictions of both of these infamous characters.

New Shipment of Charlie Bears Has Arrived

Late yesterday we received in a rather large shipment of Charlie Bears from the UK. This is the second of 3 shipments we have received up to this point.

These new Charlie Bears include a nice mix of both plush and mohair teddybears. They are all incredible teddy bears but these were the Charlie Bears that were stars in the crowd:

Alanna is just adorable and her face is not as round as it looks in the image - she has the most innocent looking little face with big eyes. Her white fur is so unique looking and so incredible soft. She is very soft and cuddly.

Jay Teddy is really nice and quite distinguished looking. He has a cuter face than in the photo also and his fur has a unique texture.

Ross is a large cuddly classic-type of panda bear. We were surprised at how large and bulky he is.
Ellie May is a really good-sized, hefty panda bear, and is quite cute.

In regards to mohair, Casper really stood out. His mohair is long and shaggy and his collar and hat are really nice colors.

Damson is much prettier in person than his photo. He is so incredibly soft and is a beautiful dark shade of burgundy.

The face on Lola is so kind and innocent-looking. There is a one-of-a-kind button sewn onto the ribbon around her neck and she is a pretty rose color.

Jackson has a really sweet face and all of the bells around his neck make him look quite masculine. His fur is really unique as it is cream underneath and has dark brown tips.

Please take a look at our new Charlie Bear additions when you get the opportunity. We certainly understand why these Charlie Bears teddy bears are all 'Bears with Personalities'.

We also received in the Charlie Bears Greeting Cards. Each card was made in the UK and is blank inside.

Rumour has it that Jim will be presenting many of his new patriotic pieces just in time for the upcoming July 4th holiday, new Jim Shore Angels, new Disney Traditions, and a new John Deere tractor.

Jim Shore Figurines Debut

Enesco, distributor of Jim Shore Figurines, has just notified us that Jim Shore has introduced a June 2009 supplemental catalog.

There are many very nice Christmas additions in the catalog, as well as his up and coming Valentine's Day figurines, Easter Figurines, and some new Jim Shore Disney Traditions pieces.

What has really caught our eye is Jim Shore's much anticipated 'Fairies of Heartwood Creek' Jim Shore Figurines. These pieces will range in size from 4-1/4 inches tall to 6-3/4 inches tall and come in a nice variety of fairies.

These new fairies are as follows:
1. Fairy Princess with Frog Figurine

Marie Osmond Doll Cinderella Toy Fair Exclusive

We here at Beacons Glow Collectibles were fortunate in obtaining one of the very few Marie Osmond Dolls Cinderella. She is now on the site and available to order.

This beautiful rendition of Cinderella is one of a limited editions of only 75 collectible dolls and was a Toy Fair Exclusive for this year. For those of you that have not heard of Toy Fair, this is the largest toy trade show in the Western Hemisphere held every year in New York City in late January. More than 1,500 manufacturers, distributors, importers and sales agents from over 30 countries showcase their toy and entertainment products.

Anyway, Cinderella is an adorable blond-haired doll with blue eyes and comes from Marie Osmond's 'Once Upon A Dress' collection. She was sculpted by Karen Scott for Marie Osmond Dolls and is hallmarked on the back of her neck with Marie Osmond's signature, as well as being hand-numbered. Cinderella comes dressed in a pretty light blue satin dress with a reversal apron that depicts the story of Cinderella.

As previously mentioned, we have only received one of these from Charisma Brands, the distributors for all of Marie Osmond Dolls. Please keep in mind that we do offer flexible layaway plans to assist in making a doll or teddy bear more affordable.

This beautiful 12-inch porcelain doll is sculpted by Marie Osmond for Marie Osmond Dolls. She has been created as a special keepsake for the Donny and Marie Show currently being held in Las Vegas at the Flamingo Hotel.

Adora Paper Roses Belle comes dressed in a costume that was inspired by the dress worn by Marie Osmond during the Donny and Marie Show when she performs her classic and timeless hit, 'Paper Roses'. Her dress is a floor-length black dress adorned with red embroidered roses and tiny rhinestones. The bodice of her dress is black crocheted lace.

New Little Women Madame Alexander Dolls

Just recently we have received into stock the brand new for 2009 Little Women Madame Alexander dolls - the March Sisters: Amy, Beth, Jo, and Meg.

Since our opening back in 2003, we have seen two series of Little Women dolls and this will be the third in the Little Women series.

Louisa May Alcott, author of Little Women was written and set in the Alcott family home based in Concord, Massachusetts. This incredibly famous novel was published back in 1868 and is still popular reading even to this day.

This novel was Louisa's semi-biographical account of her childhood with her sisters, Meg, Beth, and Amy. Jo, the heroine of Little Women, was based on herself.

Madame Alexander (aka Beatrice Alexander) loved reading Louisa May Alcott's American classic, Little Women, and in 1930 created her first version of the four March sisters. These collectible dolls are always favorites with doll collectors.

Last year Madame Alexander Dolls celebrated their 85th Anniversary. We are pleased to let all of you Marie Osmond Dolls fans know that Marie Osmond will be presenting her new June Collection of dolls during the following dates and times on QVC:

1. Monday, June 15 (4 p.m. EST)
2. Tuesday, June 16 (6 a.m. EST)

Since Beacon's Glow Collectibles is an authorized retailer of Marie Osmond Dolls, we have previously sworn to secrecy about this upcoming collection. Since we have had a sneak peek at images of these dolls, we know that doll collectors will be very pleased with the new line-up of dolls that Marie will be offering.

As is always the case here at Beacon's Glow, we will have all of these dolls in stock (with the exception of the QVC exclusives) and will match QVC's price.

During these tough economic times, our layaway plans are more popular than ever. Another Boyds Bears Sneek Peak

We here at Beacons Glow Collectibles have gotten word from Boyds Bears that they are going to be introducing several other new Fall-Winter lines. This is in addition to our previous blog post describing the new Boyds Bears plush Fall-Winter Collections.

They are going to be expanding their resin lines to include 8 new Bearstone designs; a Bearstone Train series; new Thinkin of Ya Bearstones inspired by Boyds Bears plush Thinkin of Ya line; and a Bearstone Collection inpired by the Boyds Flower of the Month plush Bears, to name just a few. What is your favorite color?

We came across this interesting tidbit regarding men and women and their color preferences. Did you know that blue wins as the favorite color of both men and women?

In a survey conducted 42 percent of people (35% of women and 57 percent of men) listed blue as their favorite color. Women's other favorite color was purple, which incidentally factored significantly on men's least favorite color list, right up there with brown and orange. Both brown and orange are the least favorite colors of everyone by the way.

In an interesting twist, all people tend to like more blue and less green as they get older. Green seems to be a young person's color.

Some say that our color preferences are a key to understanding our personalities. Every wonder what your favorite color says about your personality?

Madame Alexander Bessie Coleman Doll

We just recently received in the Bessie Coleman 10-inch Cissette doll from the Madame Alexander Doll Company. She comes dressed in a brown bomber jacket with black pants and white shirt.

For those of you that do not know who Bessie Coleman was, she was the first African American woman to become a pilot. Bessie was born and raised in East Texas and was determined to become a pilot. Back in the 1920s, no one would accept her to a flying school - she was a woman, and of course, she was black.

To get around this obstacle, she went to a Berlitz School to learn French so that she could travel to Europe and get her pilot's license there. (At the same time she was learning French she worked as a manicurist and managed a chili parlor in Chicago).

Bessie Coleman was a very determined woman and she did succeed in getting her pilot's license in Paris. This earned her the distinction of becoming the first African American woman to earn a pilot's license. In fact, she became quite the flying sensation and was named "the world's greatest woman flyer" in 1922.

Deb Canham Miniatures All on Special

Beacons Glow Collectibles is featuring all in-stock Deb Canham Designs miniature teddy bears and animals as their "Monthly Specials" during the months of both April and May.

We currently have 106 different Deb Canham miniature figurines to choose from ranging from miniature mice to armadillos to teddy bears to dragons, to name just a few.

For those of you not familiar with Deb Canham's work, she began creating miniature figurines back in 1987 and has garnered quite a following of collectors and fans over the years.

Deb Canham's line includes the following collections:

1. Deb's Little Gems - (made from furnishing velvets, and limited to edition sizes of 300)
2. Bears - (Deb's classic line of both mohair, felt, and velvet)

Charlie Bears are Here

Beacon's Glow Collectibles is pleased to announce that the first shipment of Charlie Bears from the UK have arrived. We have received in 14 different Charlie Bears - 12 from their Plush Collection and 2 teddies from Charlie Bears Isabelle Mohair Collection. (These two bears are Cripin and Toggle, and if you will note, are priced a bit higher than their plush counterparts.

Well, all that we have read and seen on the QVC UK Channel is absolutely true. Each teddy bear is of the highest quality and so lovable. If you get an opportunity, watch the video presentations out on the qvcuk.com site to see how charming both Charlotte Morris (aka Charlie) and her husband, William are. It is obvious that they are both thoroughly impassioned by their love of teddy bears and enjoy being involved in their creation.

We have read from several comments out on the QVC UK site that teddy bear collectors cannot just purchase one Charlie Bear for their collections - they end up purchasing several different Charlie Bears on a continuous basis. Their facial expressions, wobbly heads, and fluffiness make them absolutely irresistible.

Ralphie's Nightmare Madame Alexander Doll

Madame Alexander Dolls tirelessly come out with many new spectacular dolls each year but we here at Beacons Glow Collectibles have to mention a new collectible doll that we predict will be very popular. (Incidentally, we just recently received this doll in stock).

Pictured left is Madame Alexander's 'Ralphie's Nightmare'. Is he adorable or what? He seems to instantly bring back pleasant memories of that all-time favorite movie "A Christmas Story".

The movie debuted back in 1983 and is the story of a nine-year-old named Ralphie who only wants one thing for Christmas - an official Red Ryder BB gun.

Along the way, Ralphie's Aunt Clara gives him a pink bunny costume and Ralphie's mom insists that he try it on. Ralphie reluctantly tries the pink bunny suit on and his Dad comments by saying, "He looks like a deranged Easter Bunny." And then adds, "He looks like a pink nightmare!"

Hence, the inspiration for this wonderful Madame Alexander doll.

Steiff Bears Easter Items

Beacons Glow Collectibles has received in several of Steiff Bears 2009 Easter items that are so very nice to display this time of the year. They are suitable for Spring and of course Easter. As most of you already know, Steiff Bears is located in Giengen, Germany and both their mohair and alpaca pieces are hand-made in Germany. Their Steiff Cosy Friends line of plush items are now all produced in Germany also.

New Jim Shore Masterpiece Cuckoo Clock

We here at Beacons Glow Collectibles believe that Jim Shore has outdone himself with the creation of his Masterpiece Cuckoo Clock (4012470). This magnificently detailed stone resin cuckoo clock features a rooster that crows on the hour. (Jim Shore has thought of everything as there is a hidden volume control on the back of the clock that can easily be turned on or off).

This Masterpiece Cuckoo Clock (named "Old Time Tradition") measures 23-3/4" L by 4-1/2" H by 11-3/4" wide, and runs on 2 D cell and 2 AA batteries.

The Masterpiece Cuckoo Clock (4012470) differs from many of Jim Shore's other pieces as this is a truly functional piece and is intended for daily use as well as a decorative accent. It is quite breath-taking to see in person.

About the Porcelain in Your Porcelain Doll

We here at Beacons Glow Collectibles enjoy watching the cable show 'How Its Made'. A couple of weeks ago they aired an episode on how porcelain is made.

Did you know that porcelain is the hardest ceramic there is? That is why porcelain objects can withstand more abuse than other types of ceramics. Porcelain is much harder and more dense than other ceramic products. Ceramics are fired at a lower temperature in a kiln and are only fired once, while porcelain is fired at a high temperature and is repeated 3 times.

Porcelain contains three ingredients: feldspar, quartz, and kaolin. (Incidentally, kaolin is one of the state of Georgia's largest natural resources. More than 8 million metric tons of kaolin is mined in Georgia each year, with an estimated value of more than $1 billion).

Porcelain is used for many items but one of its most popular uses is for porcelain collectible dolls.

Beacon's Glow Collectibles is now carrying a supply of Madame Alexander Sweet Baby Nursery Dolls. These baby dolls, produced by the Madame Alexander Doll Company, were first introduced in the year 2007.

There are currently 3 primary types of Sweet Baby Nursery baby dolls; 1. My First Baby; 2. Baby Cuddles; and 3. My Little Girl. Each is suitable and safe for its particular age group, and crafted from only the highest-quality and baby-safe materials.

My First Baby line of baby dolls is targeted for newborns through toddlers of 18 months. These baby dolls are categorized by soft fabric bodies, velvety soft outfits, and sweet vinyl faces and hands. Each My First Baby doll is washable and perfect for those tiny baby hands to grasp and pull.

Have You Ever Heard of Charlie Bears?

Beacons Glow Collectibles is both pleased and excited in becoming a new authorized retailer of Charlie Bears. In fact, we will be the first US retailer located in the state of Texas.

Haven't heard of Charlie Bears? Well, Charlie Bears was established in 2005 in the UK and are known round the world for being of the highest quality, as well as affordable, plush and mohair collectible teddy bears. Charlie Bears work with teddy bear artists around the world to offer bear collectors a great range of bears to choose from. Their motto is "Bears with Personalities".

Back in 2007, we were very interested in carrying Charlie Bears in the US. In fact, we were one of the first to contact Charlie Bears to check into the possibility. At that time Charlie Bears did not quite have all of the details in place for distribution of their bears in the US and Canada.

Beacon's Glow Collectibles has had several requests from customers regarding Charlie Bears and we are once again pleased to announce that we will be receiving in our first shipment of these spectacular bears in a few weeks.

For those of you who do not know, Charlie Bears have 2 Collections: 1. Charlie Bears Plush (where most are open editions) , and 2. Isabelle Collection (Mohair bears that are produced in limited editions). We will initially be carrying a nice selection of both.
