Most businesses fail because its leadership
and management play not to lose, rather than to win. Winning doesn’t mean
trampling over the bodies of your opposition, rather it means developing,
preparing and manifesting an attitude to achieve your true potential. Winning is
a combination of an art and a science. The art is developing the proper mental
attitude; the science is developing the learning skills that are so essential to
manifesting the winning attitude and making it part of your DNA.

Cristina Andersson, in her book The Winning Helix, takes you on
a journey of discovery of defining the DNA of a winning attitude, the science of
an action-learning process and how to mobilize the energy to apply these
techniques to achieve your objective. As one reader commented “Winning is an
episode of learning. An episode , where with the help of difficulties and
obstacles and after a physical, spiritual or social struggle a person manages to
surpass their limits.” To be a winner in life and/or business one has to
constantly train as any championship athlete. The Winning Helix is the training
manual that lays out the roadmap to winning at everything to which you aspire.

As the book takes you though the winning process you become intimately
involved with the author as she allows you to overhear the conversations she had
with her coach and mentor as she developed into a professional operatic singer
that has entertained heads of state. The techniques described are so efficiently
presented that Silver Fox Venture Partners makes the book required reading for
anyone before we invest in them."

Dr. Gerry Lemberg
Chairman
Silver Fox Venture Partners

Table of Contents

1. Foreword
2. Who will benefit from reading this book?
3. How to read this book
4. People appearing in this book, acknowledgements
5. Introduction

PART I Encode your Action-Learning Double-Helix with winning

Chapter 1 The Winning Code – sustaining mental energy
Chapter 2 Mental Virtues – directing action
Chapter 3 Coachability Skills – enhancing learning

PART II Intensify your Action-Learning DoubleHelix

Chapter 4 The Structure of the DoubleHelix
Chapter 5 The Major Groove
Chapter 6 The Minor Groove

PART III Mobilize your energy

Chapter 7 Mobilizing Energy
Chapter 8 Winning Awareness
Chapter 9 Dynamic Attunement

Epilogue

THE WINNING HELIX: THE ART OF LEARNING AND MANIFESTING YOUR TRUE POTENTIAL
By Cristina Andersson
In collaboration with Collin Hansen
Edited by Marie Hunt
Copyright © 2006 by Cristina Andersson

First printing 2005 by Develor Oy Productions, Finland, www.develor.fi
Published and distributed by F.E.P. Foreword

“But do you know the real reason why it feels so good to stand at the top of yourself – why nothing else seems so right for us as when we accomplish what we will?

The answer is surprisingly simple:

Just as it is our natural need to drink water, to sleep and to breathe – so are we created to “win”. This idea is much, much more than positive thinking. You see, victory (in life) isn’t just an outcome, it’s actually a special part of us – something celestial sown deep into the core of our very being. And just as there can be no real substitute for a drink of water on a sweltering summer day, the same holds true for that part of our heart that would explore and celebrate its own native excellence: there is no substitute for its victory over life.” – Guy Finley

On the threshold of the new millennia I felt exhausted. I had a great job as a business consultant where I was able to fulfill my professional ambitions. I felt that I was blessed with a chance to work with issues I felt passion for; learning and strategic business development. I met wonderful and interesting people to share ideas with, not only about business, but about the mysteries of the human life as well; often on a very personal level, which made my work even more exiting and fulfilling. Besides my professional ambitions, I felt most of the time that I was able to fulfill my life’s purpose; to bring joy to people’s lives.

Bibliography 210

Stein, N.L. It is a conviction, a purpose that makes your life radiate with enthusiasm and personal wisdom. It is a power of a person who has made his life’s choices, taken responsibility for them and found his peace, knowing that even he is not given credit for all his actions, he has made righteous decisions, decisions that have roots in his true substance. He follows his path with a strength that only a peaceful mind can provide.

Conviction creates convection

In this state of peaceful wisdom, or enlightenment, the skill has become a part of personality and the learner is able to express his skill and talent in a way he expresses the deepest purpose of his life. The high level of skill enables the learner to find freedom of expression; the technical requirements do not set limitations for performance. What used to be an execution of a skill has now turned into a high personal experience.

Become one with your talent and let it guide you to experience the abundance and pleasure of your true Being. When you find your own song the world will sing with you.

We are grateful for your attention.

Thank you

Cristina & Collin

Epilogue 205

Epilogue

Conversation with a Coach
Discussing the action-learning process

Cristina: …sings “Höstkväll” by Jean Sibelius
Collin: I don’t know about the book but you have learned to sing.
Cristina: Thank you. I am quite happy about my singing too although I know there is still much to learn.
Collin: Yeah, well, learning never ends, but it is good to notice the milestones during the journey.
Cristina: It has been an interesting journey. We began the introspective study and to rehearse for our recital almost three years ago. There has been interesting moments of learning during the process; both happy moments and moments of frustration and depression.
Collin: Remember when after the recital I introduced you to the Italian song repertoire you didn’t at all like and you were going on with the action-learning process only with the power of your will? Then you made progress so fast that we had to change the repertoire quite often for you to be able to leave the old mistakes behind.
Cristina: Yes, I remember, and if hadn’t trusted you so totally I wouldn’t have done it. Now, afterwards, I am grateful that such great trust was created between us. I hope that everybody who is coached can find that kind of trust with his or her coach.
Collin: I think an important new beginning was that occasion when you sang Christmas songs for an audience. Your skill was clearly measured then and you sang beautifully and correctly. It allowed us to proceed to more demanding repertoire, like the “Höstkväll”.
Cristina: I agree. There were peak-moments and I also had many transitions during the process. Not very nice, because each time I felt that now I had lost my voice and really – there were times I could not produce a tone. Luckily the quantum leap eventually saved me and my singing improved every time. Looking backwards it is easy to say that the Doublehelix worked for me exactly as we have described it in this book. We have experienced its each phase and element. The winning learngrams we have encoded into my singing are now manifesting in beautiful sound. Thank you, Collin.

IX Dynamic Attunement 204

This faith means also that I believe that we can learn to use our emotions as our allies instead of randomly attacking enemies preventing us from achieving our goals.

Emotions are a great source of energy. In discomfort we seek comfort and in comfort we seek either to maintain the emotion or even higher emotions and feeling of happiness.

The action-learning process is an emotional journey. Befriending the emotions makes the journey lighter and also more interesting. As a matter of fact, in our co-coaching process the most exciting moments have been the ones where strong emotions have been present. Using frequencies we have tried to give a way to gain understanding about the issue. Frequencies are waves in the action-learning process. When you connect your emotions to the frequencies you will find that you do not need to hold on to an energy consuming emotion, but can detach from it and thus make it easier to advance with the process.

Frequencies form a setting of awareness that trigger an emotional process, the more we are aware of our emotions, the less pre-conditioned will the process be, that is free from rigid and inhibiting mental patterns.

Irrespective of my depressing experiences as a “consultant in learning issues” I still remain a learning enthusiast and believe that with the power of learning we will conquer the prerequisites provided by the genome.

IX Dynamic Attunement 202

Quantum Leap in short:

Wood represents the next phase of the cycle. It is a moment of empowerment, a heureka, a moment of knowing what to do -- a jump into a new state of energy.

Like winning, a quantum leap also “just happens,” emerging from the awareness which is cultivated into readiness to take the leap. Preparing for the quantum leap, it seems to me, is an unconscious process. I have experienced many quantum leaps, but I am unable to explain what happened or even less how it happened. For me, the quantum leaps have been moments when I have known that something is now possible for me. The latest experience was a song which Collin chose for me already eight months ago, but I hadn’t been able to sing one word of it. Suddenly, a week ago I felt that ‘now I know’ how to sing it, and so it was.

Quantum leap is amazing, like magic. It is a serendipitous moment where things seem to click. For those who don’t believe in magic, we can explain that the mind has done its work in co-operation with its conscious and unconscious levels. Everything that is learned forms a new combination of knowledge and understanding which enables a renewed interaction between the system parts and thus a fresh realization of the skill.

A quantum leap is a transducer that leads across the boundaries from the old to the new. A new order is created from chaos and the man is ready to take a new step in unknown territory.

IX Dynamic Attunement 200

Maintaining false patterns of behavior consume the energy that is needed to develop and manifest true potential. Renewal is a time where this unconscious energy-stealing stuff can be recognized and sculpted off.

Renewal is the time to reflect on what is. It is the perfect time to study how to live in the present and confront ones own existence just as it is right now. When the mind can rest in the “nowness” its energy can be released to make short trips into the future, to the next level of skill. To put out feelers is a way to prepare for the quantum leap and confront the shift to the next level where the action-learning process takes a new beginning. Danah Zohar says, “…on individual scale, we often speak of ‘testing the ground’ before making some social move, or of ‘putting out feelers’ to see whether some decision is viable. While we do so, ‘all things are possible’.” Envisioning the becoming stage of skill spices the sometimes depressing phase of renewal with positive expectations and exciting possibilities.

"Success is never constant. We believe success, once earned, should be permanent, but genuine success must be constantly renewed.” - Denis Waitley

Renewal in short:

"The first element in the cycle is Water, representing the most extreme Yin state. It is the phase when the energy is stored, awaiting a time to explode outward, initiating a new life cycle. Winter is the season associated with Water. If the energy of water can be retained, it will provide strength through the life cycle. If the energy is wanted, the remainder of the cycle will be weakened.”

Recovering the roots of skill, talent and self.

Need to reflect on ones own meanings, purposes – finding fresh willpower

Threat: Overprocessing, passing the moment of quantum leap

Opportunity: To turn knowledge into wisdom, grow as a human being, turn weaknesses into strengths through confrontation

IX Dynamic Attunement 199

Renewal follows the catharsis experienced in the zone of making endings. Renewal is the zero-zone, an empty space. When all the unnecessary and harmful is pruned and weeded, the vital and vigorous get both energy and space to grow. New pathways are revealed. Renewal is the time to observe emerging opportunities and new ideas.

Renewal is the ultimate transformation of the mind, a metanoia, entering the new path of becoming with fresh and open eyes. Through renewal, the basics, the roots of the talent and the will are recovered. You will be reminded why you have taken your road in the first place.

Though renewal sounds like a positive word, all the feelings rising up during the renewal may not be so positive. When we have to meet our shadow with all its false and weary companions we will probably not be feeling so good about ourselves.

The highest level of learning is to change as a person. Renewal is the place where that can be made possible. While the “release” is the phase of letting go of the stuff we know to be not working for us, the “renewal” is a time to learn about the stuff lying in our unconscious mind.

To please somebody or to get other peoples admiration are examples of false companions of the shadow. If the learner is not involved in his action-learning process because of his own true desire, he is prone to be lacking the true will to learn and improve, and a great deal of the time and effort used for the process is wasted.

IX Dynamic Attunement 198

The Circe Effect

Perhaps an experienced traveler of the doublehelix will one day find the attraction of the transition, to hear Circe’s call and feel the Circe effect that makes him release the old and enter the transition graciously. I follow my own advice and start making endings. The most difficult decisions are those when I have had to stop meeting people who, instead of making me feel good, just take my energy and leave me empty. This has not happened so many times, but often enough to know that the decision was right and necessary.

Collin has kept me awake, not letting me look back, and definitely not letting me take any steps backwards. During every lesson he introduces something new and makes me struggle; I must at the same time make my skill grow and maintain the plateau where I can establish the stuff I already learned and furthermore, release from what is not working. Collin makes me experience the entire doublehelix with its variations simultaneously, packed in one intense moment of learning. Sometimes it is very tiring, but I wouldn’t give a minute away, so rich and rewarding is the process.

The release is a time when intensive coaching or tutoring can be very helpful in order to help the learner to evaluate his action-learning process and elaborate on his learning needs. At this time the process goal number three, seeing new opportunities, should be reached, but it may still remain quite unclear. A coach can help the learner to assess the realistic goals for the next level.

IX Dynamic Attunement 194

Release

When the major groove is mature the pockets of the skill should be quite deep. Deep pockets contain a lot of valuable and vital parts of the skill, but also a lot of stuff that should be gotten rid off, and many activities just waiting to be concluded.

There are many ways to react to the need to release, to make endings. The following three are the types of reactions I have experienced in my processes:

1. I drift into a hypercompensation, where I overcompensate by trying harder and harder banging my head against the wall and yet my skill doesn’t improve. Actually quite the contrary happens, my performance gets worse. Over the years I have learned that it is possible to meet this situation with positive expectation and relaxation, enjoying the opportunity to enter a new level of skill and get a chance to feel the wonderful feeling of growth again.

2. I feel a need to return to the beginning of the major groove. Do those familiar things that I always do and feel the easiness and safety of being in control. But I don’t do that because my mind is constantly chasing after new visions and opportunities. However I know many people doing this and I’m afraid they are not very happy with their skills or themselves, either.

being in control. These people are not happy in the plateau, but they seek for new endeavors that make their energy quiver. There are also people who like the plateau, maybe they find it a bit monotonous, but nevertheless safe and uniform without any surprises. How the frequency of the plateau should be received and responded to depends on the temperament of the person. During the plateau however, everybody needs proper feedback, encouragement and dialogue to facilitate the action-learning process.

Plateau in short:

Fire is followed by Metal, which is representative of the Fall season. This stage begins the withdrawal process, where the energy of the Fire stage can be processed and readied for harvest. This is a time to get of excess turbid energy before the lean phase of winter begins. Metal represents a time of inner reflection and meditation, when one can draw in and store the essential energies that are useful.

Nothing seems to happen, learning stopped
Confrontation of problems and adversity

Need to understand and internalize the learned material

Threat: Overcompensation, frustration

Opportunity: to turn data into knowledge and knowledge into understanding.
