You're making progress!

Too bad you didn't spell "qualitative" in this thread as well as I spelled "obfuscation." Oops.

Why is it lucky that nobody's paying you for your obfuscation? If you were being paid by the word for your verbiage here, you'd be rich by now.

I'm not worried about your writing either. I'm just informing you that not everyone thinks you're as wonderful as you think you are. Use the information as you see fit.

If you're trying to impress me with your writing credentials, don't bother. My publications include one book, two comic books, and 400+ articles. Quite possibly I've published more words in my career than you have.

You "know" that I don't know who John W. Campbell is? Thanks for revealing how limited your knowledge is. I guess that explains why you don't know much about the Maya, the Ancestral Puebloans (aka "Anasazi"), the history of tribal sovereignty, or the federal recognition process.

No doubt I read several Campbell stories when I began reading SF 40+ years ago. I'm familiar with his career from several histories of SF, including The Visual Encyclopedia of Science Fiction (1977) on my shelf. Really, you should stop talking about things you're ignorant of before you embarrass yourself even further.Robhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01478763837213733775noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29769707.post-44081014944117452372007-03-14T02:14:00.000-07:002007-03-14T02:14:00.000-07:00Writerfela here -- writerfella is unworried, fo...Writerfela here --
writerfella is unworried, for encounter with his written material more is dependent upon what the reader brings to the story, or what he does NOT bring to the story. Period.
Luckily for writerfella, obfuscation (at least you spelled it right, Rob) only is rewarded in government bureaucracies and in military expressions of needs and/or funding to Congress. Long ago (1968), John W. Campbell of ANALOG Magazine complimented and published writerfella's short satirical piece, "Simple Science For Technological Military Personnel", which expressed overly complex missile operations in ostensibly simplified scientific terminology and protocols. It was his first sold and published material, thus beginning a long career of somewhat distinguished science fiction publishing and film script production. He still has the framed letter of compliment from John W. Campbell, and a copy of the check that accompanied the letter. One thing writerfella knows is this, Rob: you don;t even know who is or was, John W. Campbell. Here's a clue: he wrote "Who Goes There?", a classic short story which became the basis of the classic film, THE THING FROM ANOTHER WORLD, and then John Carpenter's remake, THE THING.
All Best
Russ Bates'writerfella'writerfellahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17208567003496430805noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29769707.post-7643421905076618872007-03-13T13:33:00.000-07:002007-03-13T13:33:00.000-07:00I'm glad I failed, since I'm not Native and never ...I'm glad I failed, since I'm not Native and never claimed to be. At least your "analysis" can distinguish between me and you.

Too bad you're unwilling or unable to tell us whether it distinguishes you from Wilma Mankiller, Robbie Robertson, Ben Nighthorse Campbell, Arigon Starr, Burt Reynolds, Tiger Woods, or Cher. Your failure to answer is noted.

Another amusing aspect of this debate is your claim that you'll give us the answers only if we pay to read your stories. I don't know about anyone else, but the more you obfuscate the truth with your verbiage, the less I'm likely to want to read more.

Incidentally, I've read a couple of your stories. They were fine, but they didn't "shine with a light I never have encountered before." If no one else has reacted this way, you can mark me down as the first.Robhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01478763837213733775noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29769707.post-34040229850464143732007-03-08T00:45:00.000-08:002007-03-08T00:45:00.000-08:00Writerfella here -- There is a reason that wri...Writerfella here --
There is a reason that writerfella expresses himself here in the third person, and it is this: to writerfella, he qualifies as a Native, his family members qualify as Natives, and his relatives and tribespeople qualify as Natives. All whom he meets who express their being Native must meet the same quantitative and qualittative analysis. So what is it? How much intermarrying do Indians have to do to eliminate their "racial memories"?

In other words, who qualifies as an Indian in your mind? Wilma Mankiller? Robbie Robertson? Ben Nighthorse Campbell? Arigon Starr? Burt Reynolds? Tiger Woods? Cher? If such truly are as unmeasurable as was stated, then the realities can and must be as unmeasurable, TO THOSE WHO CANNOT KNOW THEM AT ALL. writerfella's stories always have had these unmeasurable quantities interwoven into their content, expressed as well and as fulsomely as his creativity could command. Thus, all who have read them report that the material shone with a light they never had encountered before. The elusiveness of such a quantity left them wanting more, which was the original intent. And only while they read such material was such a light obtainable. That's about as much as any writer can ask of his readers. It is not so much a mystique as it is a power of the individuality of the writer. You've just run into some of that right now, but that's about all you will get for free...
All Best
Russ Bates
'writerfellawriterfellahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17208567003496430805noreply@blogger.com
