Added feature this month is the High School Show Scholarship winners. Their work is hanging at the gallery this month, and it is amazing!

JOSEPHINA DiSALVO, an international multi-awarded photographer and photojournalist for over 35 years is self taught. Josephina prints conventional and unconventional images in variety; on canvas, archival matte, film, silver gelatin, or whatever serves the image. "I photograph what I see or what I imagine is there. I pursue colors and rhythm. For me the camera and print process is interchangeable with pen, paintbrush and keyboard."

Coal has added this art form category to their Art Shows.
Although "Printmaking/Drawing" is an ancient Art form with a wide range of technics, some are now becoming popular with artists.
Sibylla Voll, specializing in woodcuts, has won May's "Best of Show" ribbon in this new category.

Marjorie Weaver has joined the group of artists showing at the Carlsbad Inn. She works in oil, pastel and multimedia. This month she has won the first place ribbon for oils at the gallery.

19th Annual Childrens Show

Young local artists, grades K through 8 will be displaying their artwork this month, in the 19th Annual Children's Art Show at the COAL GALLERY. Each year COAL sponsors this show encouraging and promoting the young artists.
Congratulations to "Co-Director of Children's Shows", Julia Lumetta for her efforts arranging this important program. The show runs thru May 31, 2009.

COAL'S 09 HIGH SCHOOL ART EXHIBIT

This year's annual High School art competition will be held at Oceanside's OPT Underground Gallery(Oceanside Photo and Telescope). Address, 918 Mission Ave.
Opening reception is on April 5 and the show runs through April 19. Approximately 250 works will be on display by students from several of North County's (coastal) High Schools.
COAL's "Director of Youth Programs", Diane Adams, is founder and has been director of this event for the past 27 years.
