The animation machine is a machine with just two buttons. It is designed to easily make stop motion animations. The machine is great for kids, because it is so easy to use. But adults like it too ;-) We spent some time playing with the machine during the Klik! animation festival in Amsterdam. Here is one of the animations which Oskar made all by himself:

Rusjan Flight Pioneers

Oscar and I were invited to watch the theatre performance Eda by Neda R. Bric in June 2009. The theatre play tells the story of the flight pioneers Edvard and Josip Rusjan, two brothers who made the first flight in Slovenia. Edvard flew the aircraft 'Eda', which was built by themselves, on November 25, 1909, near Gorica / Gorizia.

Edvard Rusjan died in a plane crash near the Kalemegdan fortress in Begrade during a demonstration of one of their planes. Josip moved to Buenos Aires where he died in 1953. The theatre play tells the story of the two brothers and at the same time tells the story of a mother and daughter.

The theatre play tells two parallel stories connected together. But everything was in Slovenian language, so the only parts which Oscar and I could really follow, were the scenes where they were putting together a maching on the stage. The machine looks really good and it is nice to see the two actors putting it together and actually flying it, before it all falls apart again...

The video is a short impression of the machine. The full theatre play lasts 80 minutes and can still be seen this week at the Mladinsko Gledališče in Ljubljana, Slovenia. I was hoping to catch some more comments from Oscar during the play, but all his comments and laughing were always on the moment just when my camera was not running... At the end of the video he calls out very excited 'drie Verbeugungen!!!'. This is a combination of Dutch and German, which means 'three bows!!!'. At the end of the play the actors bow three times, which was very impressive to him.

The video 'Little boy crosses the border', which shows a very young boy crossing the border on his little red fire engine car, showing his passport to the custom officers, has *almost* thousand hits. Every day I have a look if the video has reached the magic number of 1000 views, but every day it is still just under thousand views. Today it is at 986, 14 more views to go. Shouldn't be so hard to get 14 views in a day... maybe this blog entry will help to get the first 1000 hits.

Kunsthaus Graz

This video shows an impression of the pixel tattoos on the facade of the museum of contemporary art 'Kunsthaus Graz' in Graz, Austria on a Friday evening in May 2009.

The BIX facade is a huge area of neon lights on the skin of the so-called friendly alien, the Kunsthaus, a building which is made in the shape of a big balloon. Each light can be adjusted individually and in this way patterns can be created which move over the skin of the building.

On Friday, May 29, 2009 the designs were made by a group of artists from Slovenia.

Video Vortex Split Croatia

This image probably shows very well the atmosphere of the Video Vortex conference in Split, Croatia in May 2009. On the photo you can see the symposium participants hiding in the shadow in front of the Multi Media Center enjoying a short break. It was too hot to be sitting in the sun.

This photo shows the view from the Multi Media Center towards the center of the town. Not far behind the houses on the photo is the beautiful sea side, with the many bars, terraces, beach and harbour. Oscar says that Split looks like China on this photo...

This photo shows what Split looked like for us, the participants of the symposium. We spent most of the day in the dark, attending the lectures inside the Multi Media Center. The presentations were all very nice, but unfortunately the Video Vortex program was so full, there was not much time to go for a walk and enjoy the city. Hopefully some other time.

Little boy bit my finger

We were watching the interview with Harry and Charlie on youtube. This video also shows some of the remakes that people made of the famous 'Charlie bit me' video. It was the first time that Oscar noticed that people are doing remakes of videos on youtube. Immediately he had the idea that we could also do a remake.

So we jumped up and rightaway made our own version. It was obvious that HE was the one who was going to bite and that I was the one who was going the get bitten. We did not even discuss that part. Only, I was not prepared that when Oscar bites, he REALLY bites. And Oscar did not yet know that you can also just pretend to bite. However, the moment Oscar realized that he had really hurt me, he felt really sorry...

In this video I am actually holding the camera in my right hand. And I am rubbing my left hand so much on his shoulder because it was hurting so much. Just after the camera stopped filming, Oscar brought me a plaster which he put on my finger. And I gave him a stick which he could use to bite on in our next version of the video.

Recycling wallets during Easter

Cym's recycling wallets are currently availabe at a small easter market in Nestelbach in a gallery called 'Alte Raika'. Yes, that means that in the past the Raiffeisenbank was located in this building. The market features about 12 different artists from the region around Nestelbach, including Ilz, Walkersdorf and Markt Hartmannsdorf and is open on Saturday and Sunday from 2 till 6 pm. Last chance to come is on April 4th and 5th. See you there!

Workshop at Famul Stuart

The short animation 'Little boy creating a recycling wallet in 30 seconds' that I've uploaded to youtube about a year ago, will hit the 3,000 views today. Belly dance in the old farm

I'm working on a video which will show Austrian artist Heidi Zenz dancing in a former cow barn. We recorded the dance last week and the material looks promising. The video will be part of the exhibition at Pavelhaus from July 5th until September 13th.

International Biennial of Miniature Art

I've contributed three works to the 9th International Biennial of Miniature Art in Gornji Milanovac, Serbia. All three works feature the 'Moja Kravica' milk tetra pak, a well-known milk package in Serbia. The design of this package was changed about two years ago. In these works I am using the old design, that is not made anymore in 2008.

The first work is a 10x10cm painting of the package. Painted very carefully with acrylic paint on canvas. The second work is a recycling wallet made from an original Moja Kravica tetra pak. The third work is a 30 second video that shows how 4-years-old Oskar creates a wallet from a Moja Kravica tetra pak. Enjoy!

Easter Animation

Easter seems a good time to create some animations. It has been raining outside for days, so after we painted and eated all the eggs, there seemed nothing better to do than make an animation. This is Oscar's first animation. It is made out of seven drawings that are put together to one long drawing which slowly moves from left to right. The sound was recorded the next morning in one track.

Oscar's first animation tells the story of a flying book, a pirate boat and a ghost in a toilet. If you look carefully, you can first see the fish swim by, then a book flying through a black sky, then a big wave which is about to go over a small boat, then the big pirate ship which looks as if it has two eyes and a big mouth and then the big black ghost that's going upside down into the toilet.

Oscar had some problems to imagine in which direction the animation would move. When he was making the drawings, he imagined, that they would move from left to right, so that it would look as if the fish was really swimming and that the big wave was really going to go over the boat. I made them move from right to left. Maybe I made it wrong, but if they would move into the other direction, the story would have been backwards.

The soundtrack was a project by itself. We recorded sound for the movie the next morning. I suggested to make three versions, a german version, a dutch version and an english version. Oscar understood this idea in his own way and said every word three times, once for the german version, once for the dutch version and once for the english version... That's why you can hear three times 'spooky, spooky, spooky', and three times knocking.

We also recorded an explaination about the film, in three different languages, but I didn't find the time yet to put it online...

No Men's Land movie online

The singing bridge

Here is a one minute movie I made from photos that I took during a nice action on December 25, 2007 (yes, first xmas day), below the Bizovik bridge in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Three artists were recording the sounds from the brdige for a project called "Singing Bridges" (http://www.singingbridges.net/), that was presented in the cinema Kinodvor in Ljubljana later that week.
