I'm doing well. Now that the first week is over and I've had some time to adjust to things, things really are much easier. Work is great, there's enough to do and it's interesting, but at the same time I'm not stressed, which is good, considering it's summer. I couldn't ask for a better boss. He's really really nice to me and I have a lot of fun with him. He also makes an effort to make sure that I'm not bored and that I'm not doing mundane work that is below my level. </p> <p>Honestly, the hardest thing to adjust to was our trainee apartment, that gave me the biggest shock. It's really messy and way below accomodation standards that I would expect (and this is after living in student ghetto before with 8 other people in Kingston, where our house was quite messy too and not all that nice, so it's not like my standards are all that high). The apartment here has paint that is peeling off, it's really crowded and my flatmates just leave things lying about wherever, so everywhere there are piles of clothing, books, papers and other stuff all mixed together..... I was quite upset about it last week, when I first moved into the trainee house, it really got my mood down for the first 2 days, but now I've settled in and had some time to get used to the way it is. </p> <p>And the people everywhere around me are great - at work, the AIESEC people and my flatmates are good too, except one guy is a bit weird, but whatever, so this really helps, being the extravert that I am, it makes all the difference. </p> <p>I had a great weekend, which was really the "up point" after my "down stage" of dealing with the shock caused by my new living arrangements and I've been doing really well since then. On Saturday my manager drove me shopping, as I needed to pick up a few things, which really is outside the realm of his responsibilities to me, so I was really touched by the effort he made to help me settle in here in India. In the evening we went to a small party with my flatmates at the other trainees' house, so I got to meet some of the other international interns. </p> <p>Sunday there was an AIESEC event, so I had to make a presentation in front of a group of students and their parents that AIESEC Baroda invited to the event, and afterwards I had to even give an interview for the local newspaper. Once the event was over, I hung out with the local AIESEC people for the rest of the evening, we went out for dinner, it was really nice. </p> <p>Heat has still been a problem at times, I got a heatstroke on Sunday after walking around in the sun for only 15 minutes. But yesterday it rained for the first time and today the temperature has been cooler.</p> <p>Anyway, this email is getting really long, so I'm gonna get going before it starts turning into a novel.</p> <p>Take care,</p> Oksana<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/29501941-115151205028372837?l=aiesecqueens.nomadlife.org%2Fdefault.aspx'/></div>aiesecqueenshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04147323733733850074noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29501941.post-1151013531369220642006-06-22T14:43:00.000-07:002006-06-22T14:58:51.390-07:00Where to go on Canada Day<a href="http://aiesecqueens.nomadlife.org/uploaded_images/121_G-775462.jpg"><img style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://aiesecqueens.nomadlife.org/uploaded_images/121_G-773091.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><a href="http://aiesecqueens.nomadlife.org/uploaded_images/costumewinner-710317.jpg"><img style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://aiesecqueens.nomadlife.org/uploaded_images/costumewinner-787273.jpg" border="0" /></a><br />Hey AIESEC Queens:<br /><br />I thought some of you might be bored and don't know how to spend your Canada Day on July 1st. Talks with Director of Development Studies at Queen's have confirmed that students choosing to go for a DT through @Queen's...will get 1.0 credit in their department. Moreover, there's some other stuff happening with AIESEC China (more particularly Fudan University in Shanghai)...more coming on that when AIESEC in Shanghai starts planning...<br /><br />Oh and did I mention that Fernanda, our intern from Brazil, is finally here...she is working at QSB until September...<br /><br />So now both SN and TN pipelines are all clear....and knowing that it'll be harder to track students wanting to go on exchange right now.....most focus is jumping onto marketing at the moment.....summer marketing intern interviews tomorrow.....hope they go well...else another weekend shift with 6 hours of interviews......aahhh...<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/29501941-115052207196000454?l=aiesecqueens.nomadlife.org%2Fdefault.aspx'/></div>aiesecqueenshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04147323733733850074noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29501941.post-1150247962791537562006-06-13T18:14:00.000-07:002006-06-13T18:20:23.703-07:00Oksana has started her internship<p>Hey AIESEC:</p><br />What's up? I just got this letter Varun sent me. Our last SN of the year, Oksana, has safely arrived in India, and officially started her most exciting part of @ experience-- Internship. Here is the letter:<br /><br />******************************************************************************<br /><p>Hi Varun,</p> <p>I just wanted to let you know that I arrived safely in India, 10 AIESEC Baroda people picked me up at the airport and gave me a "traditional Indian welcome". Right now I'm staying at my Indian buddy's house, everything is great. </p> <p>The flight was quite long (obviously), but I met really nice people along the way. And guess what? When I was at the Mumbai airport, waiting for my flight to Baroda, I met another AIESECer from Canada, from AIESEC York actually, who was going on an internship to Bangalore! AIESEC network is everywhere! :) </p> <p>I followed your advice and booked my flight from Mumbai to Baroda before I left, I flew with Jet Airways. Thanks for all the advice about Indian air carriers! :)</p> <p>I'll take care of the other stuff you sent me later on, once I settle in a bit and get some sleep!</p> <p>Take care,</p> Oksana<br />*******************************************************************************<br /><br />I sincerely hope that Oksana will have a wonderful time in India. And can you believe it? AIESECers are everywhere, even on the random plane!! Wow, it is amazing!<br /><br />Can;t wait to see some of your pictures Oksana. Take care.<br /><br />Sean<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/29501941-115024796279153756?l=aiesecqueens.nomadlife.org%2Fdefault.aspx'/></div>aiesecqueenshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04147323733733850074noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29501941.post-1150080404288113752006-06-11T19:40:00.000-07:002006-06-11T20:00:02.506-07:00Letter from VP SpiritHey AIESEC Queens:<br /><br />I just got the letter from our beloved SN Martin. For any of you who haven't followed the news, Martin had just been selected as MC for Panama and Costa Rica. It has been great talking with Martin. Moreover, receiving his e-mail just give me extra energy to work for an extra mile. Here is his story:<br /><pre>********************************************************************************<br /></pre><div>Hey QUEEN's!!!</div> <div> </div> <div>yes, we are having the "NLDC" of CAS here... wanna come? you can faci with me! it's going to be English! =)</div> <div> </div> <div>Yes, you guessed right. Life is getting busier now...and I really like it. It's doing things I want to do. It's still transition for me, as I still have a lot of reading to do! but it's all good. What has been challenging so far has been the language. Today, we had LC planning with one of the LCs, and it was quite frustrating sometimes when I couldn't understand all of what they were saying. And when I contributed, I was speaking in English as I want to get all my points out. Well, it's definately a challenge the coming year. I havent' learnt formal Spanish since I have arrived here, but I have learnt all Spanish just talking. I think I really really need to sit down with a Spanish book and learn the basics! =) </div> <div> </div> <div>Yes, the whole country has been crazy for this match for half a year now ever since in Dec when they were officially drawn to the same group of Germany. Well, I must say, the Ticos were very scared of this match, as it is against the Germans, the hosts, and it's the first ever match, so the most watched match in the world cup apart from the Final. I think we were expecting to lose, just by how much. During the 4 friendlies this past month for warm up for the world cup...Costa Rica did not score any goals, and everybody got so scared. So common predictions would be like 4-0. The fact that we lost, we weren't surprise, what was most important was that we scored two goals! So that should definately help us, and we should have two easier teams! </div> <div> </div> <div>It was my first time ever to be living in a world cup nation during world cup...and it was sooooo nice...the game was at 10am, and I went to one of the LCP's house to watch it. I left home at 6:30am to go through San José...and it was sooo nice to see everyone wearing red! or the jersey of the ticos. I personally invested in a jersey myself, and I felt so proud wearing one as I passed through town at 7:30am or so in the morning. Everybody had their flags and everything, it was quite a scene. Only in Costa Rica: the newly elected president (formal nobel prize winner) declared the morning a public holiday...so practically the whole nation wasn't working as even private companies would let their employees watch the game. This country really feeds on football. </div> <div> </div> <div>So next comes the Ecuadorians (from where one of the intern here is!), and that would be 7am in the morning! yikes! But yeah, I'm looking forward to seeing the whole country going cup crazy the next week or two. (hopefully we can advance to the second round!) </div> <div> </div><br /><div>Cheers from "Ticolandia"</div> Martin<br /><br />*********************************************************************************<br /><br />How has your life been?<br /><br />Cheers<br /><br />Sean VP OGX<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/29501941-115008040428811375?l=aiesecqueens.nomadlife.org%2Fdefault.aspx'/></div>aiesecqueenshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04147323733733850074noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29501941.post-1149913504828260322006-06-09T21:22:00.000-07:002006-06-09T21:25:04.836-07:00Welcome!Wow, finally AIESEC Queens has an official blog.
