One thing I noticed as I worked through these - playing catch up on the month - is that I liked to work in similar colors or keys. Like the above, its all a mix of reds and greens.

I definitely used Gaugain-ish colors here.

Never was much of a fan of Chagall. I used a sharpie to get the black lines.

I noted here that I made it a winter scene as it is January and i saw all the rocks more as banks of snow.

Opal's is a nice spring garden scene. I notice she makes richer, darker colors.

Silly me, I read Degas, but thought Toulouse Lautrec because of the description, so I painted it more in TL's color schemes.

Frankly, this scene didn't do much for me and I pictured it rather higher key than the sample.

I bought this calendar "Watercolor Lesson-a-Day" for my mom for Christmas. She enjoys watercolor and has been taking lessons for some time. I thought it would be a neat way to do a daily exercise in art - something quick for those days one doesn't have a lot of time in their schedule. I bought one for myself too, though I am not a watercolorist. I've found that there is not actually much of a lesson, but there are tips and the images they present to paint, and the historical references are interesting. I thought I would start this blog to post these daily exercises my mother and I do. It will be fun to see our different daily interpretations and it has gotten me thinking about something to develop for next year. But that is for a later (much) discussion.
