Given my music background, I've been called upon to produce and engineer said performances. In the past month, we've had Francesca Battestelli, Kate Voegele and Angel Taylor grace our halls. In the next couple weeks, we're scheduled to see Plain White T's and none other than Rob Matt Nystromhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03364787017208880348noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29281526.post-63064553374945399762009-04-16T09:43:00.001-07:002009-04-18T10:46:13.848-07:00Here We Go JacketsTonight, the Columbus Blue Jackets play their first ever playoff game in Detroit. To celebrate the event, some friends at work and I put together a rock anthem to encourage them along the way. I provided all instrumentation and production while Dan Trapp sang lead vocals and wrote the lyrics and Eric Case sang backup.Check it out. Pass it along. It was a VERY fast turnaround, but in the end, it's by far my favorite site of the 90+ that we cranked out over the past year. I'm very proud of this one.Check it out here.Matt Nystromhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03364787017208880348noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29281526.post-40299640532669574362009-01-27T20:36:00.000-08:002009-01-27T20:43:53.495-08:00Big day in RadiolandToday was a big day at the radio station. The building I work in plays host to three stations in Columbus. At 12pm today, the oldies station changed format to a hot AC station. In layman's term, this simply means that station just became a little more hip.Anyway, it was up to me to throw together a visual identity for the new station in about an hour seeing as though this was a very quick Matt Nystromhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03364787017208880348noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29281526.post-29923261594650592392008-09-22T19:53:00.000-07:002008-09-25T11:57:11.609-07:00KGMI Site LaunchAnother website I designed for Saga Communications launched today. This time around, it was for KGMI, a news-talk station in Bellingham, WA. This was a pet project for me for a couple reasons. First of all, they're a station from the Pacific Northwest, located only an hour and a half or so from where I grew up. so us west coasters got to stick together and represent! I've always been fascinated with it. Well, this morning, I did my first on-air shift at Sunny 95 in Columbus. I have no idea why anyone would hand me the keys to a 22,000 watt transmitter, but I welcomed the opportunity.Honestly, I loved every minute of it. Apparently they overheard us excitedly discussing Andrew's new laptop, and thought it was worth sharing with all of Columbus.Just to get the nerd facts straight, he bought a MacBook Pro and NOT an iMac...there's a big difference! As luck would have it, it was Ken Griffey, Jr. night in honor of his hitting 600 home runs.Growing up as a kid, Griffey was my hero. My family will tell you that would be putting it lightly. I had to clean up the mess left by a cyber terrorist on a client's website. Apparently, some low life living in his mother's basement thought it would be a productive use of his time to cripple an innocent party's site for his own amusement.Matt Nystromhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03364787017208880348noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29281526.post-23496981940201908942008-03-20T15:49:00.000-07:002008-03-20T16:17:18.995-07:00Design UpdatesI've recently updated some of my design portfolio including the 2008 scorecard I designed for the Lake County Captains. Samantha Leslie has just released her first record and I was privileged enough to be a part of it. I produced, mixed and mastered the project. I also lent my hand to most of the instrumentation. More than 20 inches of snow fell from a monster storm in about 24 hours. Since the storm was making international headlines, I decided to strap on my snowshoes and have a look.Matt Nystromhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03364787017208880348noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29281526.post-40104349002079389792008-01-22T11:59:00.000-08:002008-01-26T09:18:10.443-08:00Seriously, It's Cold Out ThereI know that I'm new to the Midwest, and I still have yet to see a lot of things that are commonplace to folks out here. But today, I looked out my window and was surprised to see that the Olentangy River, which runs behind my apartment, was completely frozen over! Growing up in Seattle, I had never seen a RIVER actually freeze over. Lakes, yes, but not a moving body of water. So as you can see,Matt Nystromhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03364787017208880348noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29281526.post-31880865230831785532008-01-18T08:22:00.001-08:002008-01-22T18:28:00.904-08:00A Great QuoteI was thumbing through starbucks.com this morning and came across one of my new favorite quotes:"Playing in an independent rock band will eventually make you equal parts truck driver, gladiator and mule. It's true. We make gingerbread houses every year. Growing up with my family, it was an all out, smack-down competition. Come to think of it, it's still that way. We have WAY too much fun doing it. This is our first visit back to the Northwest since our departure in August. It's been refreshing to spend time with friends and family.Last night, we went to the Everett Silvertips game, and despite a loss, we had a good time. It was fun to walk around the arena and run into familiar faces.Matt Nystromhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03364787017208880348noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29281526.post-19775308933946168122007-11-21T09:36:00.000-08:002007-11-21T09:39:54.790-08:00Back in the gameLast night, I went out for the first time and participated in an acoustic open mic. I had a lot of fun. I tried out a new song I wrote last week, did a couple Threefold songs and ended with a Carpenters cover.I've really had the burn to get back out playing music in front of people. Yesterday was the first time I'd performed by myself. I've always had someone with me until now. Last night, as I was loading out from a gig at which I ran sound, a song hit me out of nowhere. By the time I was done loading the trailer, I had the whole thing laid out in my mind.I raced home to my notpad and madly scratched out the words that were flowing through my mind. Everyday, I sit down with my guitar for an hour or more, ready to pen my next musical creation. However, the songs are eluding me. I'm feeling rusty and out of shape.I've never been much of a lyrics guy, and I've always written with someone else. Switchfoot was here in Columbus for a show, and they decided they wanted to do something fun for the folks in town. So with some help from 104.9 The River, they setup a surprise acoustic show at Tree of Life Christian School.I was asked if I'd be able and willing to run sound for the event and also make a recording for the radio station to air Matt Nystromhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03364787017208880348noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29281526.post-46137956846656793652007-09-07T15:51:00.000-07:002007-09-07T16:01:03.306-07:00So, here's my excuseOne of my pet peeves when going to someone's personal blog is reading some long, rambling post about how the author in question is sorry that he/she has been neglecting his/her online musings, assuming that throngs of people out there are just WAITING to hear what they thought about last night's episode of High School Musical.Well, I neither watch that show, nor will I make any such apologies. We were just in time for the hottest week of the year, lots of rain and a tornado touching down about a mile from our apartment. It was the first time I had ever heard a tornado siren go off. I was quite thrilled by the whole experience, but Karen did not share my enthusiasm.Needless to say, it's been an eventful week here at our new home in Columbus.
