VMware Workstation can also be used to install and run Chrome OS VM in Windows 7. <br><br> Step 1: Download and install the latest version of VirtualBox for Windows 7. (download link is given below) <br><br> Step 2: Download .vmdk file for Google Chrome OS. (download link is given below) <br><br> Step 3: Start VirtualBox and click on “New” button. A detailed list with all the modifications brought to the table by KB 976098 is included below. <br><br> In case you live in one of the geographical areas mentioned further down in this article, then it would be best to apply the update as soon as possible in order to make sure that the Windows operating system keeps up-to-date with the time changes in your country without any intervention from you. Microsoft mentioned that users that were not directly impacted by the update could postpone deployment to a later date. “We recommend that you deploy the most current Windows cumulative time zone update to guarantee the consistency of the time zone database on all systems,” the company noted. <br><br> According to Microsoft, the December 2009 cumulative time zone update is available for a range of operating systems, including the latest releases of Windows client and server, namely Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2. So, without further ado… <br><br> How do I know whether I can use the 64-bit version of Windows 7 on my PC? Should I even bother? <br><br> If you have 4 GB (or more) of RAM, or if you think you might want to use that much memory someday, then yes, you should consider a 64-bit version of Windows 7. The issues involved are the same as they were in August 2008, when I answered some similar questions about Windows Vista. If you’re interested in the technical background, go read that post. <br><br> With the exception of some very cheap PCs and netbooks, most PCs manufactured in the past three years or so will run a 64-bit version of Windows. The easiest way to check your system for compatibility is to run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor, which runs on XP and Vista. Click the 64-bit tab to see the full report. <br><br> I’m thinking of upgrading from a 32-bit version of Windows to 64-bit. What should I watch out for? <br><br> The biggest stumbling block for x64 upgraders is compatibility, either with a business-critical application or a favorite device. In my experience, printers, scanners, and multifunction devices are most likely to cause problems. Most 32-bit programs will run just fine under 64-bit Windows, but some don’t, and 16-bit Windows programs won’t run at all. You might be able to resolve some compatibility problems using Windows XP Mode, which allows you to connect USB devices to a 32-bit virtual machine. <br><br> Oh, and you must do a custom installation to move from 32-bit to 64-bit. An in-place upgrade isn’t supported. <br><br> My retail box includes 32-bit and 64-bit disks but only has a single product key. Will that key work for either edition? <br><br> Yes. The format of a product key identifies a specific edition of Windows 7 (Home Premium, Professional, and so on) as well as whether it’s a full or upgrade product. But it doesn’t care at all about the 32/64-bit question. The key will work with either version. <br><br> There are two DVDs in the Windows 7 box. Does that mean I can install one on my desktop PC and the other on my notebook PC? <br><br> If you purchased the Windows 7 Home Premium Family Pack upgrade, then the answer is yes. In fact, you can use the single product key in that box to upgrade three separate PCs in the same household from Windows XP or Vista to Windows 7. This crack method is an alternative to BIOS loader and OEMBIOS mod, which effectively bypass the activation requirement of the installed Windows7 system, by removing and disabling Windows Activation Technologies (WAT). <br><br> The new hack bypass the sppcompai.dll, and even deactivates all the reminder popups that would otherwise ask you to activate indefinitely. By so nullifying sppcompai.dll disables all activation and licensing related functions. According to MDL the crack is possible probably due to leniency allowed on the part of Microsoft on activation mechanism to avoid getting too many false-positive or complaint on activation error. In the mean time hacker teams released their workarounds for example RemoveWAT and Chew-WGA are available in the wild. <br><br> RemoveWAT : RemoveWAT, developed by Hazar and nononsence, it is a tiny utility to remove WAT (Windows Activation Technologies) completely from the OS, whilst still retaining genuine status and receiving all updates (optional as well). You can also pass the genuine check in things like Windows Defender. Now, Windows 7 users can also take their pick of fresh items from the bazaar of activation cracks, and illegally prolong the life of the operating system without activating the product, and of course without buying a license, for that matter. <br><br> Ways around the antipiracy protections built into Windows 7 have already been documented, with some techniques even automating the process of bypassing activation altogether. Automated Windows 7 hacks are designed to let users circumvent the activation process with little or no effort on their part. Cracks can, in this context, be run like any other executable, and produce a fully functional, albeit non-genuine, copy of Windows 7. <br><br> Microsoft’s repeated warnings that users dealing with pirated software expose themselves to the risk of infection, virtually handing over their computers, privacy and sensitive data to attackers, have failed to truly resonate with pirates. Unaware of the hidden costs of pirated Windows 7 used in combination with various activation circumventing techniques, many users do not hesitate when it comes down to illegally running the OS. <br><br> Two of the most prominent methods to bypass Windows 7 activation, RemoveWAT and Chew-WGA, are designed to remove and disable the platform’s Windows Activation Technologies (WAT) via a similar process, according to a third-party source, which we will not link to because it provides links to download Windows 7 activation cracks, as well as to additional examples of pirated software and illegal bypass methods. Microsoft itself has already come across the Windows 7 activation workarounds and has indicated that it will tackle the problem. "We're aware of this workaround and are already working to address it," a Microsoft representative revealed to News.com. <br><br> Neither RemoveWAT nor Chew-WGA activate Windows 7 per se. Instead, the process is circumvented altogether, in which case, the operating system no longer requires a product key to run. Under normal conditions, Windows 7 offers end users a grace period of 30 days, in which the OS can be run as trial software. Initial grace can be prolonged up to 120 days with the slmgr /rearm command, but, at the end of those 120 days, customers are still required to enter a product key and activate Windows 7 in order to continue using it. RemoveWAT and Chew-WGA essentially cut off access to the Software Protection Platform (SPP) and to the Software Licensing Client (SLC), Windows Activation technologies responsible for dealing with licensing and activation. <br><br> In this manner, RemoveWAT and Chew-WGA kill Windows 7 activation, keeping the operating system in the initial grace period indefinitely. While it is in trial-mode, Windows 7 delivers full functionality to end users, and behaves identically to a genuine and activated copy, allowing pirates to enjoy the same range of benefits as legitimate customers, but without paying a single cent. Such benefits include access to components, content and software reserved for genuine Windows users and the ability to download and install all the security updates offered by Microsoft. <br><br> Of course, this is not the first time Microsoft has come across Windows activation workarounds. In fact, a hack making use of the same concept of bypassing activation by keeping the operating system in initial grace was offered for Windows Vista following the January 2007 release. It was only a year later that Microsoft killed the Grace Timer Crack with the release of the first service pack for Vista. At this point in time, the Redmond company offers no indication as to when it plans to take on the new Windows 7 activation workarounds available in the wild. So, without further ado… <br><br> How do I know whether I can use the 64-bit version of Windows 7 on my PC? Should I even bother? <br><br> If you have 4 GB (or more) of RAM, or if you think you might want to use that much memory someday, then yes, you should consider a 64-bit version of Windows 7. The issues involved are the same as they were in August 2008, when I answered some similar questions about Windows Vista. If you’re interested in the technical background, go read that post. <br><br> With the exception of some very cheap PCs and netbooks, most PCs manufactured in the past three years or so will run a 64-bit version of Windows. The easiest way to check your system for compatibility is to run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor, which runs on XP and Vista. Click the 64-bit tab to see the full report. <br><br> I’m thinking of upgrading from a 32-bit version of Windows to 64-bit. What should I watch out for? <br><br> The biggest stumbling block for x64 upgraders is compatibility, either with a business-critical application or a favorite device. In my experience, printers, scanners, and multifunction devices are most likely to cause problems. Most 32-bit programs will run just fine under 64-bit Windows, but some don’t, and 16-bit Windows programs won’t run at all. You might be able to resolve some compatibility problems using Windows XP Mode, which allows you to connect USB devices to a 32-bit virtual machine. <br><br> Oh, and you must do a custom installation to move from 32-bit to 64-bit. An in-place upgrade isn’t supported. <br><br> My retail box includes 32-bit and 64-bit disks but only has a single product key. Will that key work for either edition? <br><br> Yes. The format of a product key identifies a specific edition of Windows 7 (Home Premium, Professional, and so on) as well as whether it’s a full or upgrade product. But it doesn’t care at all about the 32/64-bit question. The key will work with either version. <br><br> There are two DVDs in the Windows 7 box. Does that mean I can install one on my desktop PC and the other on my notebook PC? <br><br> If you purchased the Windows 7 Home Premium Family Pack upgrade, then the answer is yes. In fact, you can use the single product key in that box to upgrade three separate PCs in the same household from Windows XP or Vista to Windows 7. A simple search of some method names and properties, gleaned from Reflector's output, revealed the source code was obviously lifted from the CodePlex-hosted (yikes) GPLv2-licensed ImageMaster project." <br><br> The GNU General Public License (or simply GPL) is a widely used free software license typically used in licensing open source software. <br><br> According to Mary Jo Foley, a Microsoft spokesperson confirmed that Microsoft had removed the tool stating "Microsoft is looking into this issue and is taking down the WUDT tool from the Microsoft Store site until its investigations are complete. We apologize to our customers for any inconvenience." <br><br> It's not immediately clear whether the allegations are true but if Microsoft has pulled the download then clearly there were reasons to do so. Windows 7 comes with an initial trial period of 30 days, which can be prolonged, if necessary. <br><br> At the time of writing this article, Microsoft continues to offer for download a free, trial release of Windows 7 Enterprise. Time-bombed to last for no less than 90 days, the Windows 7 Enterprise trial represents a chance to run the equivalent of the Ultimate SKU – the high-end edition of the operating system. <br><br><b>2. SLMGR-rearm</b> Of course, in certain scenarios, the initial grace period of 30 days offered by every edition of Windows 7 might be insufficient for end users to decide whether they want to buy the platform or not. In this case, the Redmond-based company provided a perfectly legal method to prolong the trial period to 120 days. <br><br> Simply enter “cmd” into the search box under the Start menu and right click the highlighted result selecting “Run as administrator.” In the cmd window, enter the following command: slmgr. This will open the Windows Software Licensing Management Tool with a list of commands that can be run. Windows 7 users will be interested in running slmgr /rearm, a command, which resets the initial grace period back to zero. If slmgr /rearm is used on the 30th day of the trail period, it will offer another month of free trial. Users will only be able to rearm Windows 7 a total of three times. <br><br><b>3. Windows Aero</b> Windows 7 comes with an overhauled graphical user interface that boosts the eye candy previously available in Vista to a new level. But it’s not all about the enhancements to translucency effects, it is also about the overhaul in terms of functionality. The new Taskbar (Superbar) introduces a new way to combine hosting icons designed to launch programs with applications already running. Thumbnail Previews along with Jumplists (mini Start menus for each app pinned to the Taskbar) make it easier for users to find and launch an application. But, of course, there’s more. <br><br> “Snap to it! Need to compare two documents side-by-side? Snap, a new feature in Windows 7, is a quick (and fun) way to increase your productivity. Snap allows you to resize open windows simply by dragging them to the edges of your screen – left or right. Then, the window will expand vertically and fill the screen, so you can easily position windows side-by-side,” Microsoft revealed. <br><br> “Shake away the clutter: Need to cut through a crowded desktop and quickly focus on a single window? With Windows 7, you can click a pane and give your mouse a shake. Voila! Every window except that one disappears. Jiggle again, and your Windows are back,” the company noted. <br><br> The Aero Shake, Aero Peek and Aero Snap features make organizing and managing opened programs, files, folders on the desktop a simple process. Overall, Windows 7 is less cluttered, and more user-friendly. <br><br><b>4. Windows Live Essentials</b> Don’t forget to stretch Windows 7 into the Cloud. With the advent of Windows 7, Microsoft is no longer including otherwise traditional Windows programs into the operating system. Vista’s successor no longer comes with an instant messaging client or a mail app. But via Windows Live Essentials, Messenger, Mail, Writer, Photo Gallery, Movie Maker, Family Safety and Toolbar are just a download away. <br><br> “Download Windows Live Essentials – the killer apps for Windows 7: Once you have Windows 7 installed, go to download.live.com to download free programs for email, IM, movie-making, photos and more,” Microsoft revealed. <br><br> Windows Live Essentials components are all offered as free downloads. And, in fact, as soon as they try to update Windows 7, users will find that Windows Live Essentials will be offered as an update. We configured it to follow the system defaults for User Account Control (UAC) and did not load any anti-virus software. <br><br> We grabbed the next 10 unique samples that arrived in the SophosLabs feed to see how well the newer, more secure version of Windows and UAC held up. Unfortunately, despite Microsoft’s claims, Windows 7 disappointed just like earlier versions of Windows. The good news is that, of the freshest 10 samples that arrived, 2 would not operate correctly under Windows 7. <br><br> The findings are in fact not surprising, since the main problem with Windows 7’s UAC lies in the over-expectation of the average end user. color: black;">Tip: <u><a href="http://www.liutilities.com/affcb/?id=DSgen&amp;aff=3270&amp;xat=gen" ref="nofollow" target="_blank">Click here to update all your PC's outdated drivers</a></u></big><br><br> Consumer Market Research firm NPD has confirmed that initial sales of Windows 7 have surpassed those of the Windows Vista launch. <br><br>According to NPD's weekly tracking service, Windows 7 software unit sales in the U.S. were 234 percent higher than Vista's first few days of sales. The most popular choice for consumers was the Windows 7 Home Premium upgrade followed by the Pro upgrade and Home Premium Family Pack. According to NPD, software sales of Windows 7 were strong compared to Vista's sales partly due to early discounts on pre-sales and a wide range of promotions. Although software sales were strong, PC hardware sales had more of an uphill battle, sales weren't as strong as growth during the Vista launch. <br><br> "A combination of factors impacted Windows 7 PC sales at the outset, but the trajectory of overall PC sales is very strong leading into the holiday season," said Stephen Baker at NPD. Baker went on to confirm inventory prep before the Windows 7 launch had "been spectacular". Working with retail stores, Microsoft prepared for the launch of 7 and customers were aware that the software would be available on October 22. Baker also said adverts had been "well-thought out and innovative". A combination of upgrade offers and promotions from several retailers helped with sales. Baker also praised the work done with OEMs, "never before has the industry launched such a variety of new form factors, price points, technology upgrades, and design innovations at one time." <br><br> Microsoft blogger Brandon LeBlanc also said "it has been quite amazing to watch the global excitement build around Windows 7." With only the first few weeks since the launch of Windows 7, NDP projects higher sales over the next two months for Windows 7, even during this tough economic climate.
