It's been too long! Finally everything is calming down a bit and I have chance to update my blog. The year has been a blast! Unfortunately it went too fast. Big thanks to everyone from ALD 08-09. Really had one of my best years in Stockholm. Really loving that city!
Currently I'm in Eindhoven Holland fronting new Challenges, but this exploration is also soon comming to end I'm heading to Finland.

Greetings from the Moutoo Design's offices, the wonderful place
where all the Reppo II magic happens! First of all, a great big
thanks for your interest and support! We've had a truckload of e-
mails from people asking about the project, so here's the whole
nine yards:

Moutoo Design is taking over the whole Reppo II project, since
publishing the prototype in the Internet generated such a huge
amount of buzz. We're making final adjustments to the design to
make the Reppo II sound and look even more awesome than before,
and the backpack is almost ready to enter production. So, here's
what will happen next: we're going to produce the first set of
Reppo II's and start selling those beauties. The first patch is
going to be a small one just to get the production going
(Handmade in Finland, baby!), and will be shipped in limited
quantities, so it's probably just to Finland and Sweden (sorry
about that, rest of you..). But good things come to those who
wait, once we have the production up and running, we'll be happy
to deliver a shiny new Reppo II to you, wherever you are. A
shroud of mystery still surrounds the final retail price (taxes
and all that jazz) but we can promise you it won't cost you an
arm and a leg. And the first ones will hit the market just in
time for Christmas!

Boom Boom Backpack

It seems that somehow my bachelor project Reppo II has gained a lot of attention in the Internet's design&tech blogs. Wonderful!! It was so weird to get a phone call to Chamonix from my dad telling me that I have a quite a few hits in google.

I want to thank all the people who have been helping me in this project from the start to the end and also a big thanks for the University of Lapland and my teachers and professors there.

At the moment there are some planes with Reppo II so stay in tune. Here's a chillout picture from last summer with Reppo. Notice that it's 4.00 or 5.00 o-clock in the morning. Finnish midnight sun.

On the move!

My moving journey started 14.3 and ofcourse Barcelona didn't let me go so easily. A really thick fog delayed all the flights so after 4 extra hours I finally got on my way. I flew over the Alps and saw Mont Blanc. It looked really beautiful.

I arrived in Geneva in the evening. Didn't do to much that evening. Ate and had a few beers with a finnish friend. The next morning I headed for the Geneva 2008 international Car show. The exhibiton itself was really cheap only 8chf. I was really amazed when I steped in to the first hall. Over seven halls full of brand new cars and concepts all in one place at one time. In four hours I took over 250 pictures then my camera ran out of battery.

Probaly the best things was the new Fiat 500, the new Volvo xc60 and Saab aero x concepts. Take a look off the photos yourself.

Generally I must say that I really hope that every young Industrial Design student has a chance to go to a big exhibiton like thia at least once. It really is like eating candy. NAM NAM!!

My next stop was Chamonix. I took the bus and arrived late in the evening to Chamonix. Had a few problems finding the hostel and got ripped off by the taxi driver. 20 euros for 3km damm...

Well the hostel was okay, nothing really nice but ok. Only one heater in a six bed dorm room to dry your stuff. Well who cares if you can see Mount Blanc from your window. I was also supprised of the food. Our first dinner was fondyy. YES It was a hostel and it even had a wine chiller!! Staff was also very kind and nice. I would go there again, though it's a bit far away from the center.

The first two days I skied with four french guys who where sleeping in my dorm. I had a really fun time with Frank, Sergi, Pascal and Bernard. The first days where foggy and the new snow was moist, but still it was great fun to go off-pista in Brevent-Flegere.

Thuesday morning was a bit nicer. Sun was shining and I headed for the Grand Montets. It took me over one hour to reach the top of the mountain, a lot of cueing. But it really was worth it. The view was amazing and so was the slope down. After three intensive skiing days my thighs started to be a bit sore. Wednesday I went to Domaine de Balme and had a nice sunny ski day. Thursday the last day was probaly the best, intense sunshine all day. I was snowboarding with an english fireman. Had some nice runs and hiked up to a few cool places.

On friday I was ready to live Chamonix behind. morning I jumped into the bus and headed for Geneva. Form Geneva I was supposed to take a train to Basel and from there to Berlin. Unfotunately someone was hit by a train in Geneva so they had to stop the traffic for one hour. Ofcourse I missed my connection and they cancelled the Basel train. Thanks for the nice Swiss lady who helped me with the changes when travelling to Basel with other connections! The train from Basel to Berlin was a big supprise. I have never ever been in a train like that. It was almost empty, good for me and my giantic snowboardpack. So quiet clean and stylish. Probably the best seven hours in a train :) Go DB!!!

So now I'm finally here in Berlin. Today the wheather was very finnish, cold dark and rainy. Still I'm starting to feel that this might be the place I have been searching. Let's hope so.

Holy smoke! What a weekend! On friday I headed again to Andorra with the guys of Flippa. Saturday was probably one of the best skidays ever in my life. Good snow, amazing scenery and a intense sunshine. As a finnish snowboarder I'm use to getting cold in the slopes. Now it was the opposite - so wierd.
Our hotel was a quite shitty and I bealive we had mold in our room, but who cares if you can see huge mountains from your room, but actually I couldn't cause I didn't have a window. Well I think you get the point.
A really big thank you for the guides of Flippa Sebastian CHI and Francesco ITA. The guys really know how to keep up the spirit and arrange a nice trip.
Now I'm full of energy and stressles. So nice to start the last week in BCN. Next stop Geneva international Car Show, then Mont-Blanc Chamonix and then to find a flat in Berlin. Hasta luego!

Vray plugin for Rhino 4.0

Finally a good render plugin for Rhinoceros. This is the thing I have been waiting for. It's really easy to do basic lighting scenes. The only minus is the small material library. Well it's quite easy to do the material yourself. More info.

Time is running out and I have to get something done. Okay I have a working prototype which was built from foamboard (kapa) and other stuff. The model isn't a beauty but it proved that the actual concept might even work. Here is the concept idea in a few photos. I hope you get the idea

Okay this is my studio project which I'm doing here right now. Finally I got my first nice picture out of my 3d model. The project idea was to make a one wheel trolly which you can take to the supermarket. Spanish people love to use trolleys. The Unicarro concept is foldable and it has a special mechanism to increase the ground clearence. I'll post a few photos more when I have renderd them. Be free to comment. Chao!

Okay I'm quite sure that my next computer is going to be a Mac or maybe linux. I am so sick of the new Vista. I'm having so many problems with my new Asus r1f. I have been reading that the new SP1 for Vista is not going to make difference. It might slow down you computer even more. Today was also the historic day that I bought my first mp3 from the internet. So easy and fast! Props for iTunes!

Rome Rome Rome.

It's a place where you have to go at least once in your life. It's so wierd to walk in ancient history in the middle of a big modern city. I did all the must see things in Rome, the Coloseum, Trevi fountain, Basilica di San Pietro etc.. Sisitine chapeI was an interesting experience. Finally I saw some of the paintings I have been learning during my first art history studies in the university. It was really wierd to see them in real life. Especially the ceiling in Sistine chapel by Michael Angelo.

Now I feel that no more museums and and city vacations for somewhile. I wan't some activity hollidays.
Solo travelling was a bit scary at first, but again I met so many nice people and had a really nice stay. The hostel Papa Germano near the Termini train station was really nice and a good deal. I'm comparing everything all the time to Barcelona so now I have to do it again. Rome has more soul, It's more genuine, more elegant. Barcelona is more hippy and funky. My opinnion again. Better to go and check it out yourself!

This new nokia concept really hit my eye. Finally they have made an effort to do something for those old mobile phones. Actually it even look nice. I really do hope this is the way for the future. How many mobile phones have you had? I had about seven I gues. Happy valentines everybody!

The BCN tourist week!

Trying to get back to my normal life again. Last week was a blast, but thank god it's over. Riku&Samppa came to visit me for a week. I've never been to so many tourist places during a week. In away I always wanted to go to those places. I always thought that I'll go to them when I have some friends over here. More and more I'm starting to think what the heck do people come here for? Did you know that over 1o million people visit Barcelona in one year. 2 million go and see the famous building site of Gaudi La sagrada Familia. Okay I'll take it back a bit, It might be also me, maybe I'm just getting bored of the tourist sights and I don't get anymore kicks out of just getting lost in barrio gotico and walking down the ramblas. Time to change the place again. Berlin here I come.

P.s Don't take the tourist bus in BCN (my first and last time on a tourist bus)

Muji & Moooi

Here is a few interesting design companys. Muji is a japanese retail company whichs sells allkind of household stuff. The products have a clear line - no logo, minimalistic and the emphsis of recycling. They have a store here in Barcelona and it really is a place worth going. You can find foldable cardboard spekers, clothes, travelling stuff, pens, papers etc... I can imagine that the ladies will especially go crazy in this store. Neat small stuff! Strange that Muji doesn't have a store in Finland cause they seem to have them in Sweden and Norway.
The other company comes from the Neatherlands. I bumped into this company when I went to visit this store close to were I live. They had a cool lamp hanging down from the cealing. Moooi seems to have a lot of interesting things. Go check it out yourself! Next time someones asks me what is design. I'll show them this funny video which I found from Moooi's website.

Esqui en Andorra!

I had a really nice skiing weekend in Andorra. I found the ski trip on wednesday evening trough facebook. On thursday I went to the office to sign in and on friday I was already travelling towards Andorra. The trip was organized by Flippa. A company which makes all kind of interesting trips around Spain. It's a small company ran by an Italian and Chilean guy.
We arrived in Andorra in the middle of the night. Next morning we got on the busses an drove to the ski center and took the tele-esqui (lift) to the slopes. The scenery in Andorra is breathtaking. Small village surrounded by SO many big mountains.
First day in the slopes was allright, but the high wind speeds had shut down the cabin lift on the top mountain which connected the Vallnord sector Arinsal to a another sector called Pal. In the end of the day I was a bit bored with the slopes. It was an okay start!
In the evening we had a chance to go to a disco, but my flatmate from protugal told me that it's not worth to go. So we sipped a few beers in a nearby bar and went to sleep early so that we would have energ for next day.
On saturday the sky was blue the sun shined all day long. No wind and perfect snow. The cabin lift was opened so we headed directly to the other ski-center and had really nice day. Though at some point I got annoyed with the spanish skiing culture. Most of the slopes are very narrow and when you have a lot of people in these kind of slopes with more speed then skills you really need to be careful.
In total it was worth draging all the equipments from Finland. I'm allready planing my next ski-trip. I just cant believe that I haven't gone snowboarding more often during the last few years. How did I almost forgot my favorite hobby?

Issey Miyake + Dyson

So I was sipping my cafe con leche and reading the El Pais (Newspaper of Spain). And there was an article about these two designers. Issey Miyake and James Dyson. I really couldn't bealive that these two designers have joined forces and they actually have a design collaboration. Well still it's nice to get suprised! Actually the new DC16 dyson is quite nice, especially check out the fuxian red color. -Nice!

Now that we started to talk about symbian aplications. I must say that the e-mot mobile dictionary is absolutely a fantastic invention. I take my phone almost everywhere so just a few cliks and you can check the word you didn't know.
