SoundCloud app has (mostly) arrived

SoundCloud's iPhone app has arrived. I was a little surprised to find that it wasn't free. Don't know why I was expecting it to be though.

The other bit of bad news is that the app isn't available in the UK as yet. Not sure why that is.

I posted my list of things I'd like to see before the end of 2009 a while back, and as a couple have arrived I thought maybe I'd do a weekly review of it to see how we're doing. So I'm splitting the list in two. The first part being stuff I'm waiting for, and the second, stuff that's arrived. Here we go:

Of course, I'd love to see loads of other new music making software and hardware before the end of the year too, but if I could get even the majority of the above it it would be great.

Xewton Music Studio update

Xewton has had an update this morning. The main change is MIDI import, which is a good feature to have. Other changes seem to be mainly usability and fixes.

GOTO10 Workshop Bristol

GOTO10 sounds like a good but fairly intense event in Bristol. The workshop is a 3 day workshop for up to 10 participants, looking at how to build an Internet chat based music platform. To attend you have to make a case for being there. More details here.

As often happens I only found out about this service from a tweet. Thounds is a beta collaboration service that is developing an iPhone app too. It sounds (Thounds) really interesting.

I've emailed them and asked about whether they've thought about ioLibrary support in their app. When I hear back I'll let you know.

Having fun with Slice

I've just been playing with this app and it is great fun to use. Absolutely worth the £0.59. I was a bit worried after The Strange Agency released Spoke that they'd gone off the boil so to speak, but Slice is a really great app.

I was especially interesting in GenomeStudio, which sounds and looks great.

Slice from the Strange Agency

Another app that I've been waiting for a while now. Slice has finally arrived at the app store, and for only £0.59 / $0.99.

Here's what the Strange Agency says about it:

Juggle broken beats like a pro DJ with an absolutely unique touch interface. Jump around the loop, rearrange its pieces, select portions to make shorter loops, add and tweak echo effects, all in real time as the loop keeps playing!

➠ Select a single slice by holding down one finger just inside or outside of the loop!

➠ Select a number of slices by holding two fingers just inside or outside of the loop!

➠ Tap a slice to turn it off or on.

➠ Drag one or multiple slices to rearrange the beat!

➠ Use one finger to press the ECHO button, then use another finger to control the echo depth and timing!

Slice comes pre-loaded with some sick beats, but you can also add your own!

So I think I'll get hold of it and give it a go.

I noticed this app a week or so ago and really wasn't sure if it was going to be worth trying out, so I was pleased to find this review, which makes me think it is probably not the kind of thing I'm going to find useful.

Equalizer getting ioLibrary support

I'd noticed this app a while back and thought it was a good idea but hard to use without a way to move audio around the device itself. Now that this app is going down the ioLibrary route it looks like it will be much more useful as part of your iPhone studio.

NESynth has been updated. Sadly it isn't a massive update, some bug fixes and a new vibrato feature.

What I'd love to see in this app is a sequencer and wave export.
