"I have made tremendous progress in expanding our management team and allocating the appropriate capital to make an aggressive expansion plan realistic. With the ability to be active in the field, I have been able to cultivate and develop key prospects and move my expansion plan to the next level. With the addition of an eco-friendly washing and detailing program, Executive Details had positioned the brand for future growth and development. Below is and article on the eco-friendly washing process and benefits to the environment.

We have all heard these terms recently. "Going green", "eco friendly", "environmentally safe", and more are more than just catch phrases. We know what they mean and why we should heed the call. Some of us may drive more fuel efficient automobiles or hybrids, we may use energy saving light bulbs in our homes, we all hopefully recycle as much as we can, but when we look at "going green" from a detailing point of view what does that mean to us?

Many of us unfortunately may look at this as a nuisance. We are all creatures of habit and are used to doing things a certain way. But we have to look at what we have been doing and examine the fact that can we possibly change? Can we be as effective, or more effective and still be environmentally friendly? Going green does not necessarily need to be a way that slows us down or does not get cars as clean as we are used to. Before we look at the "new school" or eco friendly ways we can clean and detail cars, let's look at the "old school" ways we have been doing things
Car washing. There has never been any other way to clean something, especially an automobile, other than with the use of large amounts of water and soap. We wet the car and rinse it first, then wash the car with a soapy solution to lift the dirt, and then rinse the entire vehicle with large amounts of water. It's always seemed to work and it's always been an accepted process. We have always washed cars this way and nobody has ever told us otherwise. However, we are now being told! There are drought problems all over the country which will severely limit the amount of water (if any) that can be used to wash a vehicle. There are also major concerns about polluting our streams and rivers which nobody really cared about years and years ago. Some foreign countries are not even allowing homeowners to wash their vehicle at home anymore. There was an article not too long ago in the Wall Street Journal banning car washing in some towns right here in the USA. Many municipalities are now keeping an eye on car washes and how much water they use. They must reclaim and recycle the large amounts of water being used. Water needs to be treated before it can enter a sewage system. Mobile detailers need to know the rules about water usage and reclaim in the areas that they service as well. The problem is REAL and it's not going away anytime soon

The cleaners we use and V.O.C.'s Not only is car washing a major issue in being eco friendly, but the kinds of cleaners that we use on vehicles to get them clean. We know that soap will not clean very much other than light dirt. Once the cars get caked with heavy soils and grease and ground in crud, we need other, stronger, more dangerous and non environmentally friendly products and cleaners to get the cars clean. Our use of high PH alkaline all purpose cleaners and degreasers are one example. Wheel acids are another example. Heavy solvents such as lacquer thinner, gasoline and kerosene (yes some detailers still use this) to remove grease from interiors as well as tar from the outside of the car. Even the buffing products we use are not very environmentally friendly.
It all comes down to VOC's or Volatile Organic Compounds, and no, that's not a brand name for a compound! This measures the amount of pollutants a product has that is being emitted into the atmosphere. Car manufacturers and body shops know what this is because they need to keep strict track of what products they are using and the VOC level of each. They must chart the use and the waste of those products and safely get rid of them, or face heavy fines or closure. The companies themselves that make these products are under strict limitations of how much VOC is in each product. If it's over a specified number, they must go back to the drawing board. This is affecting us already and you may not even know it

Our favorite product is not as good as it used to be! Have any of you noticed that a great product you used to use is either no longer available, or has changed? Sometimes for the worse? And have you noticed the prices of some products getting more and more expensive? The reason is because the product companies have had to reformulate many products to meet the new VOC guidelines and become more eco friendly. Most every buffing product and cleaner has a degree of solvent in it. This aids in the formulation and mixing of the products as well as aiding in the way it performs and cleans. Some solvents are very harsh for both you and the environment and have been outlawed. There are now new, safer solvents in almost every product. But some detailers feel that they do not clean as well as they used to. In some cases this may be true, but the unsafe and dangerous products of the past are going to be long gone in no time. We are "going green" regardless of whether you like it or not. So how do we embrace it? How do we make this "going green" idea have legs and use it to our benefit? Let's look at some solutions.
A different way to wash- old school vs. new school There is an alternative. Washing with conventional soap is actually 100 year old technology. Soaps require rinsing first and having something, in this case the vehicle, already wet. The soap will only emulsify and lift the dirt because water (and lots of it) is present. Then, water (and lots of it) must be used to flush and rinse the surface to remove all the dirt, oils and soapy residue. If any soap is left on the vehicle, we will see streaks and hazing, and the surface will be sticky. The other bad thing about soap is that you cannot re-emulsify soap once it dries. You basically need to repeat the process to get the same results. Also, believe it or not, many soaps are actually aggressive and can cause more harm than good, and many will strip wax, leave a paint surface less glossy and slick than when you began. This is very "OLD SCHOOL"

The newer technologies which are called designer polymers are being used to clean vehicles with very little water or no water at all. This is the "NEW SCHOOL" way. Polymers can be made to do many things. They can be linked and chained together to accomplish anything that is needed. (In this case getting a paint surface clean). These polymers have a much better ability to dissolve oils and grease, emulsify dirt and lift it off a vehicles surface with less product and much less water. The polymer creates a barrier between the paint surface and the dirt and carries it away. The polymers bond better to the dirt and will also bond to the paint surface leaving it with more gloss, a much slicker feel, and even some protection. Many of these new design special designer polymer products can be used with a small amount of water mixed in a bucket. The operation of cleaning is simply to immerse a micro fiber towel in the bucket and go about wiping the car down and freeing the dirt. This will even work on an extremely dirty vehicle. There is also another method of no water washing where "spray wash" products can be used to spray on a dirty surface and simply wiped away. These products need to totally "wet" and encapsulate the dirt, but once wet, the dirt can be wiped away in the exact same manner. Both are excellent choices.
How much time will this take?Time is always a factor in detailing. We always prefer to get a car done sooner rather than later. I have always thought that the best case scenario was to wash a car the conventional way if possible. This consists of pre- wetting the car, using soap to wash the car, rinsing it off, and drying it. This does take time but has always shown to be effective. There is no argument there. However, by using the new polymer technology, we are saving a few steps. We save the pre rinsing step (if the car has not been, lets say, 4 wheeling), and we save the post rinsing and drying step. We still need to wipe the car down and remove the dirt, which may take a bit more time because we will be constantly dipping our towel in the bucket and basically moving "panel to panel". So, in some cases we may save time on a less dirty vehicle and we may add a bit more time on very dirty vehicles. However, what we need to look at are a few things.
Some detailers are now being "forced" to find other ways to wash. This is a fact. In drought areas you see it already. Water restrictions are in place and may not go away anytime soon. And even if you're in an area of the country that is not water restricted, we have all probably been through it at one time or another. It's far better to have an alternative and stay in business, even if washing takes slightly longer, than to be shut down because there is no water allowed. I was very skeptical of these new methods and "designer polymer technology" but until you have actually tried it and have seen it work, you may never believe it. It does work and vehicles will get clean, they will have a great gloss, and they will have a slick feel.

There are still other ways to be GREEN and effective. Let's say you work on VERY dirty vehicles all the time. Let's also say you are a mobile detailer working in a cold climate where even if water is allowed, it may freeze on a vehicle during the winter months. We have all had challenges of trying to wash a cold car. Metal and glass hold cold very well and freeze very quickly. Water hitting a cold vehicle can re-freeze almost instantly. Water hitting the ground will also freeze very quickly. This creates a hazardous situation unless you have ice skates on. This makes washing a car almost impossible no matter what kind of product you are using. There is still another alternative, STEAM CLEANING!
A great.not just good.and certainly not a cheap steam machine can do wonders on the outside of a vehicle. To be able to pre wet the paint surface (or any surface) with just extremely hot water vapor can be a huge asset in "green" cleaning. There will be almost no water runoff, and you can use one of these "great" steamers to basically help wash and rinse the car. It can help clean all areas of the vehicle including wheels, door jambs, rocker panels, and even engines without slowing you down, or the steam machine running out of steam. Again, I was a big skeptic until I purchased a "great" steam machine and saw what it can accomplish. These machines can be such a gigantic aid in "green" cleaning and actually staying in business. It's a great advertising and selling point to a customer. Also don't forget the fact that in cold climates, this machine will keep you working. It can "thaw" vehicles and allow for the products to work. If the temperature is below freeing, it's no problem. The steamer will warm the car up, dissolve any ice or frost, or even melt snow, thus allowing you to work in harsh conditions.

This is still another, even "greater" steamer that will work for you even faster and more effectively. There are units that are heated by propane and are basically a combination steamer and pressure washer. But the water output is far less. These units combine a small amount of water injected along with very hot steam and run at about 600 PSI to produce cleaning like you have never seen before. While these units use slightly more water than a conventional steam machine, they will be much faster to use and even more effective. These units will also inject your favorite designer polymer cleaning solution at the gun tip to further help clean the vehicle. The water savings are immense and the results are fabulous!
Change is on the horizon. Regardless of whether we like it or not, change is coming. Gone will be the old school ways of car washing, possibly even for conventional car washes. However, instead of being resistant to change, embrace some of the newer greener methods. Luckily the technology is NOW available to make these changes. Consumers are looking for detailers who are eco friendly. Consumers are looking for "everything" that is eco friendly. Using these new products and equipment will not only make you an environmentally friendly detailer, it will produce the results that you are used to and maybe even save you some time. It may even keep you in business. And, if you advertise about being green and eco friendly, you will surely get more customers and generate more interest when people see you using different equipment, products and techniques than they are used to seeing. It's not just a catch phrase anymore. It's a way of life. Embrace it!

dsteele@execdetails.comhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04776158661136603216dsteele@execdetails.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28555689.post-82722551311927800122008-10-07T08:43:00.005-04:002008-10-13T16:14:14.713-04:00

Rye Brook, New York Executive Details is proud to announce that starting in mid October they will be aggressively entering the "Green, eco-friendly" movement by changing the way they wash their clients vehicles. With the purchase of their first vapor washing system, Executive Details has taken the next step in transforming their business to protect our environment. "This is a tremendous opportunity to offer our clients a revolutionary eco-friendly washing option that will preserve our delicate environment. We will be installing these vapor washing units in our new detailing facility as well as in all our mobile detailing units. In the coming weeks I will be rolling out Eco-Details, a hybrid business unit that will be a completely "Green" approach to washing and detailing" said Steele. Below is some info regarding the system.

As you know for years, we have been washing cars with large volumes of water. Water conservation wasn't on the radar and nobody really cared about being environmentally friendly. That has all changed and it's never going back.

Did you know......
An open garden hose with a ¾ inch diameter at 40PSI will use 12-18 gallons per minute
That same garden hose, even with a hose nozzle, when in use will use on average 7.5 gallons per minute
A pressure washer with an average PSI of 1500 will deliver 4-5 gallons per minute
When water flow is limited, and pressure is reduced, less water will be wasted. In general we do not need extremely high pressure ratings on pressure washers, and we do not need very large nozzles to force the water through. This alone will save water. However, when you combine a little less pressure, with a very small nozzle and produce steam at 320 degrees......you have a machine that will clean more effectively, efficiently, and use a very small amount of water in the process. This is the environmentally friendly way to wash a car!
This machine is so versatile, that it can be used as a cold water pressure washer with more water volume, a hot water pressure washer, or of course, a steam pressure washer! You control the water flow and the heat by simply adjusting the temperature guage, or the fuel pressure setting. By hooking up your water source, this machine is a continuous operating machine.
You may have seen other "imported" steam pressure washes around. However, the LW 250 steam pressure washer is the BEST ever to come around for the following reasons

Made here in the USA. This machine has been made in the USA for 20 years and has a track record of industrial and commercial cleaning
Up to 320 degrees of heated, pressurized steam and water in about 1 minute
The LW Ultra 250 weighs only 95 pounds compared to over 300 pounds of the "imported" machines.
Industrial/commercial grade. This is a very unique vehicle with an incredible history and I have attached how it all began below for your reading pleasure.

The man who guided the destinies of the Morgan car for almost fifty years, H.F.S. Morgan, was born at Morton Jeffries Rectory, Herefordshire in 1881. His father was the Reverend Prebendary H G Morgan at Stoke Lacy and he married Ruth, the daughter of the late Reverend Archibald Day, formally vicar of St Matthias, Malvern Link. H.F.S., as his loyal workers and personal friends knew him, was educated at Stone House, Broadstairs, Marlborough College and at the Crystal Palace Engineering College. He began his career as the 18 year-old pupil of William Dean, Chief Engineer of the GWR Railway Works at Swindon, where he worked as a draughtsman in the drawing office of seven years. Whilst making a modest contribution to the history of steam H.F.S.'s loyalties were divided between the locomotive and the motor car. After a hair-raising first drive in a 3 _ h.p. Benz that ran away with him down the 1-in-6 gradient of a hill between Bromyard and Hereford, he emerged intact but considerably poorer. Damages to the car cost about £28 for repairs and delayed his ambition of owning his own car. He left the GWR in 1906 and at the age of 25 opened a garage and motor works in Malvern Link where he ran a most successful bus service with a special 10 hp Wolseley 15 seater. These ran from Malvern Link to the Wells and later from Malvern to Gloucester. He also became the district agent for Wolseley and Darraq.
The original Morgan three-wheeler as shown at Olympia. Eventually he could afford to purchase a motor vehicle an Eagle Tandem. Previously he had hired his cars including the ill-fated Benz, from a Mr Marriot, the first motor trader in Hereford. The Eagle was a three-wheeler fitted with an 8 h.p. water-cooled De Dion engine and it was from his experiences with this machine and a 7 hp. two cylinder car called "The Little Star" that he had the idea of making his own three-wheeler. He bought a 7 hp Twin-cylinder Peugeot engine and mounted it into a light Three-wheeled tubular chassis. The first Morgan Runabout had been born! With very little facility for machine work in his garage, help was gratefully received from Mr Stephenson Peach, then Engineering master at Malvern and Repton Colleges and the grandson of the designer of the "Rocket". The first design was successful due to its rigid frame, light weight and independent front suspension. Another important factor was the unusual power to weight ratio of 90 brake horsepower per ton, which enabled this little vehicle to accelerate as fast as any car being produced at that time.
The patent drawings of the first Morgan three-wheeler drawn by John Black Initially, there was no intention of marketing the vehicle. Only after much favourable comment was the decision made to build a few. With capital for some machine tools and an extension to the Malvern Garage provided by his father the rector, H.F. S. Morgan began manufacture in 1910. A patent was granted, the patent drawings being produced by a bright youth who was later to become famous as Sir John Black of the Standard Motor Company. The Morgan name made its very first public appearance at the Olympia Motor Show in 1910. Two three-wheelers, both single seaters fitted respectively with 8 hp Twin and 4 hp Single cylinder J.A.P. engines, secured some orders, but it soon became apparent that for the vehicles to be universally popular they would have to become two-seaters.
The chassis erecting shop in 1912 It was whilst the two-seater version was in preparation that H.F.S Morgan entered his single-seater in the London-Exeter-London Reliability Trial, gaining a gold medal, the highest possible award. The first two-seaters made their appearance at the 1911 Olympia Show. They were fitted with 8 h.p. engines. They attracted the interest of the managing director of Harrods, Mr Burbridge, and as a result the car appeared in the shop window of the famous store, the only car ever to have done so. At the 1911 Show the orders received were so many more than Mr Morgan could cope with at Malvern that he approached several large manufacturers to make cars for him. It was fortunate that they turned him down and with the help of deposits on orders he was able to purchase more machine tools and make further extensions to his garage.
1913 - Sports Runabout The Morgan Motor Company was formed as a private Limited Company in 1912 with the Reverend H.G. Morgan as Chairman and his son as Managing Director. The site of the first factory was on the Worcester road leading into Great Malvern. H.F.S. and his wife Ruth lived next door in a small terraced house. During this period the Morgan name was heard for the very first time in racing circles when a Mr Henry Martin easily won an International Cyclecar Race at Brooklands. In 1912 H.F.S. Morgan broke the 1100 cc. One-hour Record travelling at a fraction short of 60 mph for one hour at Brooklands. His father the Prebendary H.G Morgan was present and this is probably the only time a top hat has ever been worn at the popular circuit. From the start it was very much a family business and Mr H.F.S Morgan's sister, Miss Dorothy Morgan, was a regular entrant in reliability trials gaining many first class awards in a Morgan three-wheeler. In 1913 a Morgan made the fastest time at the celebrated Shelsey Walsh Hill Climb at an average speed of 22 mph. And at the end of the year the Morgan Runabout had gained a greater number of awards for reliability and speed than any other Cyclecar or Light Car.
W.G. McMinnies with passenger on the tail. At this time a Morgan three-wheeler seating two people could be bought for 85 guineas, and one of them entered in the Cyclecar Club's "Fuel Consumption Trial" won the event with an average consumption of 69.4 mpg. In 1913 the company produced some racing cars with longer chassis and lower seating with o.h.v. J.A.P. engines. One of them was entered in the French Grand Prix at Amiens and won against strong opposition from many continental four-wheelers. This in spite of an enforced stop to change an inner tube in one of the front tyres!
W.G. McMinnies and his mechanic Frank Thomas, after winning the French Cyclecar Grand Prix. The driver of the car, Mr McMinnies was the editor of the "Cyclecar" and his success gave Morgan a great deal of publicity. After the event he christened his particular car "jabberwocky of Picardy", but the car became officially known as the "Grand Prix" and one contemporary owner, Captain Ball, the First World War flying ace, said to drive this car was the nearest thing to flying on the ground. During the First World War only a small number of cars were produced and the works manufactured munitions and machinery for the war effort. After the outstanding success of 1913 it was unfortunate that in 1914 the Morgan was excluded from the RAC Lightcar and Cyclecar Trial because it had only three wheels instead of four. This was a portent too significant to go unnoticed, A four-wheeler was designed to be fitted with a Diorman four-cylinder engine but the model never went into production. It was to be twenty-two years before the first four wheeler was introduced.
Prototype Four-seater The evolution of the Morgan with a model of family dimensions (designed in 1912) came in 1915 when a four-seater was produced for Mr Morgan and his family. After the Great War this model was marketed as the Family Runabout and sold in large numbers. The demand for inexpensive transport was great and a new factory was built at Pickersleigh Road to enable production to reach fifty cars a week. This made Morgan one of the largest British car producers at the time.
The Pickersleigh Road Factory Situated on the Madresfield estate, the new factory was opened in 1918 and H.F.S. Morgan's daughter, Sylvia laid the cornerstone. This is now the site of the present factory, which has traditionally been known as the "Works". Mr George Goodall joined the firm in 1925, taking over the position of General Manager from Mr A Hales who had been with H.F.S since 1911. George went on to become Managing Director of the Company, a position from which he retired at the end of 1958 whilst still retaining a seat on the Board.

dsteele@execdetails.comhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04776158661136603216dsteele@execdetails.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28555689.post-60434632433858673182008-08-15T12:14:00.002-04:002008-08-15T17:09:12.189-04:00

Chappaqua, New York Executive Details today added two more vehicles to their Signature Concierge Detailing Services. This was a great vehicle to work on and we are thrilled to have Derek as an Executive Details client. The process that was completed is below for your information. Thanks again Derek!

Here is a write up of the limited edition vehicle:

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Ripping across the Arizona desert in a new limited edition of the most powerful American sports car, a grand touring variation of Dodge's awesome Viper totes an enormous engine with ten cylinders of muscle pumping up the strength of 460 horses as translated through six forward gears into downright frightening linear speed. Based on the GTS coupe, this new limited-edition ACR -- American Club Racer -- reveals styling cues drawn from Viper's GTS-R world-champion GT2 race car. Its engine boosts power by 10 points, with 60 pounds of body weight pared for more speed and the Koni street-car suspension components replaced with GTS-R equipment plus Meritor springs so this snake can make the most of its 18-inch high-performance Michelin Pilot Sport tires. The result? A steroid-induced Viper which can blow everything else off the road -- and it's street-legal. It's also quite rare, as less than 200 units will be cast at Viper's Conner Avenue Assembly Plant in Detroit. Viper's ACR special edition ranks as one of three production variations for Dodge's supercar as configured with 1999 badging and colors. The original Viper RT/10 roadster was replaced in 1996 by the GTS coupe, Viper's first hardtop, which added concessions for comfort and convenience like glass side windows and exterior door latches. For 1999, both coupe and roadster continue, although each carries further enhancements with huge 18-inch aluminum wheels and six paint choices -- including new red, silver or black. Beneath the dramatic shape, there's that classic arrangement of components in a tubular steel space frame, with engine up front and rear-wheel thrust setting the stage for a neo-interpretation of an earlier snake on pavement, Carroll Shelby's '60s-vintage Cobra. In any iteration, Viper contains no compromises. It looks outrageously vicious with an exaggerated prow and curt tail, but it's all engine, with sparse cockpit space and room for only the driver and a close companion. The RT/10 is noisy, cantankerous at times, and it has a jury-rigged ragtop roof that leaks when it rains. Refinements effected in 1996 included swapping original exposed side pipes for a rear exhaust system to meet On-Board Diagnostic regulations in Europe, where Dodge continues to build recognition for the car. The GTS coupe brought further refinements for civility and comfort, while a hardtop roof and window glass dampened the thunder of Viper's engine to a respectable roar. Suspension components in cast aluminum for the coupe pared 60 pounds from the original Viper's overall weight, and the revised geometry set up a more stable and compliant behavior during hard cornering. The fully independent front and rear suspensions employ unequal length upper and lower A arms with coil-over springs of alloy steel and high-performance gas-charged shocks. Steering, exceedingly quick and direct, stems from a power-assisted rack and pinion system with fast steering ratio of 16.7:1. High-performance disc brakes get huge 13-inch vented rotors at all four wheels and 4-piston front calipers, which meet design goals of running a Viper from zero to 100 mph and back to zero again in less than 15 seconds. Pulse of any Viper comes from a humongous engine, the 8.0-liter V10. It's the only 10-cylinder pumper for a sports car outside of Formula One competition racers. Using a thin-wall aluminum alloy block to trim weight, the massive V10 has a 4-inch bore and 3.88-inch stroke, which help push output to 450 hp in tandem with awesome torque production to 490 lbs/ft. Tweaking the ACR version for free breathing nets an additional 10 hp, as torque runs up to an even 500. A sophisticated 6-speed manual gearbox, with synch shifting and reverse lockout, mates to Viper's monster engine -- and it's entirely malleable. Also, Viper has adjustable foot pedals which can move mechanically up to four inches in fore-aft range to adapt to an individual driver's legs. The interior fits tight like Spandex. Twin bucket seats trimmed in comfy perforated leather contain firm cushioning for lateral support when cornering. A 3-spoke magnesium steering wheel, wrapped in leather, tilts and telescopes to adjust. Among various instruments in the cluster, the speedometer calibrates to 200 mph. Safety systems include twin air bags and Viper's steel cage construction, with steel beams in side doors, plus a theft alarm. Missing from Viper's list of safety elements is the option of anti-lock brakes and a traction controller. The ACR competition package for Viper elevates Viper GTS coupe to a race-ready entry for American GT contests -- it's equipped with all of the necessities, including 5-point safety belts. Engine modifications for the ACR were limited to adding smooth intake hoses and a free-breathing air filter to provoke better air flow, but 60 pounds of excess weight were whittled away from the production GTS by removing Viper's air conditioner, fog lamps and stereo audio system. Exterior changes appear rather modest, as the racer wears subtle "ACR" badges visible on front side panels near the unique one-piece BBS wheels. The chance to play with a black ACR Viper occurred recently at Scottsdale, with substantial front-end time devoted to squeezing into the tight cockpit and cinching up the 5-point racing harness. Crank it over and the throaty rumble of Viper's massive engine shakes the body and sends shivers through the skin in anticipation of lightening-quick action. Run fast up the gears and Viper pins shoulders to seat through the first four, each increment building speed and driver's pulse. In turns it acts with uncanny agility, hunkering low and sticking hard around every bend. How fast is it? In official trials Viper GTS runs from zero to 60 mph in only 4.3 seconds, while my unofficial top speed on a track clicked several points beyond 175 mph.

Our Pinnacle Swissvax Detail is designed to offer our superior Swissvax Treatment over the course of the typical work day.
