Guest Chef on the Waterfront 2009

Here is this year's artwork for FareStart's Guest Chef on the Waterfront! This year they really wanted to focus on the many chef's who partner with them throughout the year. So I tried to reflect this in the artwork by focusing only on chefs, ship captains and mermen (gotta have mer-people).

FareStart is a job training and placement program for homeless and disadvantaged individuals. Over the past 17 years, FareStart has provided opportunities for over 3,000 people to transform their lives, while also serving over 3.5 million meals to disadvantaged men, women, and children.

This is the best summer event in Seattle, by far. Great food and location. This year the event will be held on July 15 at Elliot Hall on Pier 66.

Halloween Masks

Hey there everyone! Halloween is almost here.

I know that many of us start weeks before now preparing for the best holiday of the year. (Okay... maybe just me). But in case you haven't had the time to be up-to-your-elbows in papier mache (like me) ... I've made a few masks to help you get started.

IT'S NEVER TOO LATE!!! Wear a cape, moon boots and a leotard with one of these masks and you're good to go. The sillier the better.

So don't putz out and sit on the couch this Halloween with a bowl of rotten apples to throw at derelict teenagers . Wear a mask. Go out! Have fun!!

Here's an illustration of Elvis from the latter years of his reign. While I was doing some research for this image, I came across a picture of him and Liberace. This was done for an Spring Party featuring an Elvis impersonator at a bar in Capitol Hill (hence, the kitty's embroidered on his bell-bottoms).

I just finished this year's artwork for FareStart's Guest Chef on the Waterfront. It's the 4th year for this event and the 4th year that I've created the artwork for this fantastic event. It is THE best food event in Seattle. Many of the best Seattle restaurants participate; along with wineries and ABSOLUT!

This year's poster features all hand drawn typography, which was fun to do, but took FOREVER.

FareStart provides job training to disadvantaged and/or homeless people. Many of the best local restaurants participate in their program throughout the year, and showcase the best of tastes from their restaurants at this event. It's definitely not to be missed... and tickets sell out fast. So visit FareStart's Website to learn more about the event!

Here's the latest artwork for Everyman Theatre's upcoming play 'Art' by Yasmina Reza.

Play Synopsis: Friends Serge, Marc and Yvan begin to pick apart the seams of their 15-year friendship when Serge buys an expensive modern painting of white lines on white canvas. The all-but-blank canvas becomes the centerpiece of a funny and ultimately penetrating discussion of how we are defined: by ourselves, our possessions, and our friends. This sophisticated, stimulating, and moving comedy won the 1998 Tony Award® for Best Play and the 1996 Olivier Award for Best Comedy.

I had recently watched the movie Helvetica and thought this typeface and treatment would be the best option for the play's artwork. As it says on their website:

The film aims to show Helvetica's beauty and ubiquity, and illuminate the personalities that are behind typefaces. It also explores the rift between modernists and postmodernists, with the latter expressing and explaining their criticisms of the famous typeface.

Gem of the Ocean

Here's the latest artwork that will be used in Everyman Theatre's production of August Wilson's Gem of the Ocean.

This artwork went through several renditions and is a bit of a departure from my normal illustration style. The play is EXCELLENT and I highly recommend going to see it should it play in a city near you. If you happen to be in Baltimore, go see it at Everyman. A great theatre with a great company of actors, directors and techies!
