Upon approaching garagecomedy.com regarding Parking Lot Dance Club, I had the goal of involving comedians in the show. I thought if they could serve as judges of those that had the guts to dance, we'd have a more complete show ala American Idol or Dancing with the Stars....even the amazing Soul Train.

When a band from Texas joins Parking Lot Dance Club, havoc ensues. The bum world comes out and graces us with dance moves. Cars get interrupted by our interruptions. Diner dwellers peer out the window and take a crack at our scene.

We are Parking Lot Dance Club. Punksters. Hipsters. Something in between. The neighbors don't like us because we are WALKING the streets.

No, we are not whores. We are exploorrrorrrrrs. Horrors....ROARERRSSSS.

We make the pavement crack with the heel of our beat.

THE USC vs. UCLA game

Parking Lot Dance Club dominated USC during football season. In a hotbed of tailgating action, we got Darth Vader, Elmo, and the Trojan Man himself to dance with us. No we didn't dance in parking lots that day, but we joined small barbeques that could have taken place in parking lots.

Our skills also could have been in the movie Step Up 2 (The Streets). But, not everyone liked us. A Latino sorority kicked us out of their dance routine. A little kid wouldn't dance with me. An old guy lied about having a bad hip. I mean, come on...I KNOW you can dance, old guy...

But, regardless of all that, we succeeded in dancing with a variety of rare birds: funksters, hipsters, nerds, jocks, and an entire Mexican marching band. Thank you to everyone...USC, UCLA, KSCR Radio, and the fandom behind drunken hamburger football tossing slam fests.

LA BLOW UP

We didn't go to LA BLOW UP tonight. We went to LA BLOW UP's parking lot tonight.

That's right. We don't pay cover charges. We sit outside and celebrate the fact that yes, we did not bring our wallets. We will not succumb to such succertash. But, let's not deny the cool that comes before us. LA BLOW UP is this tiny club for hipsters and cool kids alike and we will not steal their thunder. We will not claim we are cooler. There is just no scene to really claim in LA -- it's a downtown stage of city lights-- parking lots--nerdy kids, skinny girls, foreigners, and fem bots. It's mish mosh. We're just trying to make the mush mix by dancing quick.

It's PLDC's tenth dance-off and we are meeting so many people-- nerds, hot girls, nerds, Japanese girls, and nerds that I'm thinking, for sure we'll get into someone's blog tonight, right? And oh...we did...we made Spike's "field report." But...where is this field report? There is a thing called the internet but who designed the navigation system? I googled it all over the place and all I can find are articles on homicides in parking lots...which only gives PLDC a bad name. So, just to clarify, PLDC does not consist of murderers and we don't claim to be skilled enough for that type of work, but we can promise you that if we meet any, we will not be a part of any of that. The point to all this, though, is that we are part of a "field report" and it is very important that we find it on the inter-web before our grandmothers do. Episode Two: THE PLDC BLOWS UP

FLORIDITA'S FLOWER SHOP

Floridita's flower shop was our first time. 12 am-- dark, cold, and sketchy. Next door, the McDonald's drive-thru zinged with the sound of neon lights and a bum slept right by the menu-- his butt hanging out...glorious. For some reason, with all this atmosphere, we were turned on. So turned on that we suddenly felt inspired to dance.

Glendale Blvd.-- home of the crack addict. Take me to the Blvd. where I feel safe and by safe, I mean not this Blvd. For PARKING LOT DANCE CLUB, though, we go anywhere and by anywhere, I mean carrying a dirty couch from a dark alley across a very wide street to a parking lot where yes, a bum is sleeping on a pee-stained mattress. Why the mattress is there, I do not know. Why we stole a couch and placed it at Floridita's parking lot, we do not know. But man, we just carried a 30-70 pound couch across traffic on a Friday night and who can tell us that that is not awesome?

Michael Bernardi and I, Alessandra Rizzotti, are budding soldiers of a new guerilla movement created to revolutionize the parking lot dance world. He and I are about to parking lot dance-off across America and yes, we will start at Floridita's Flower Shop next to McDonald's... bum butt, french fries, and all. What we do not know though, is this particular McDonald's is popular. The first guy I ask to dance with me happens to be in a car just "hanging out". Anyways, he's "hanging out" and I'm "hanging out" by his car waiting for him to roll down his window and I see no problem with this until he rolls down the window with some cheeky boy attitude and says: "We're here to smoke, ok? Can you leave?" And I, suddenly disturbed by my new discovery that this is some drug dealing hang out, blurt out: "I'm sorry to break up your party....don't worry, you won't be breaking up mine..." I turn around, almost tripping.. What the fuck, ya know? What's wrong with me? Why won't anyone dance?

And so, in this first attempt to parking lot dance the universe, I fail. Knowing my friends live right across the street, I decide to call them. Of course, I am worried about selling out on my first episode by using my friends instead of strangers, but I am telling myself, DO IT...who cares if you sell out already on your first episode? Anything goes with PARKING LOT DANCE CLUB. Dance with your friends...pretend they're strangers...then call it a night. Afterall, who knows what next week will bring? Next week could be full of one-night stand strangers. Beautiful.
