Consumers have been at fever pitch excitement awaiting the great release, eager to get their hands on the hand-held device that will make their lives perfect, that will allow them to Internet, chat, listen to music and do everything but fly while doing just about anything else at the same time.

The product launch has all the excitement of Christmas, of a movie premier, of the birth of a new baby who will somehow save the world.

People had lined up for days outside stores around the U.S., camping out, eagerly awaiting the moment when the doors to the magic kingdom of the Apple and AT&T stores open and they get to rush in and grab one or two (at most) of the amazing devices and rush home to start using them, or to use them instantly out of the box, calling friends to brag about their newest acquisition that has brought them so much happiness.

Only in the U.S. can such an event take place with such fervor over what is basically a utility device.

It reminds one of the eager anticipation of Christmas, when one waits breathlessly to get the newest toy that will delight them for hours and days on end. We see news pictures of people smiling, almost giddy in their joy at the iPhone release.

Never mind that the cost prevents many from feasting at the hi-tech table, that world-wide release will be months away, never mind the minor flaws, the supposed slow bandwidth of the AT&T connections, the issues with connectivity that shouldn't be a problem. The iPhone is cool, it's hip, it's the hottest new thing that some folks have just GOT to have.

Sure, why not?

Toys are lots of fun, and in the end, the iPhone is really just another toy. And it is hoped that Apple does very well with the product.

The company is innovative, makes some of the coolest equipment on the planet, creates designs that break the mold. It's all about prestige, and when it comes to prestige, almost nobody does it like Apple. This is where they excel, being the coolest company there is, young and innovative. You gotta love them for that!

But in the end, as almost every iPhone customer will discover, the iPhone is -- gasp -- a cell phone! When they call their friends, the sound will be basically the same quality they will get from any other quality cell phone.

It may even be -- gasp, gasp -- more difficult to dial the number! The Internet is still the Internet. The iPhone won't make a crummy web site look better, just harder to read on the small screen. MP3 music will sound the same as it does from an iPod or any other quality MP3 player.

It cannot be what it is not.

It is a delivery device. The quality comes not from the iPhone itself, but from the content that the iPhone delivers.

Meaningless conversations will be just as meaningless, no matter what the device.

And when the eager innovators who bought the iPhone at product launch realize this, that is when their happiness will descend, like a paper kite caught in a downdraft.

The problem with being a kite is that you are always at the mercy of the wind.

At Christmastime, there is often a sense of disappointment after the great happy morning when presents are opened. By the evening, the toys have been played with, children's excitement has waned, and Christmas is over, for another year. We all have to wait until the season returns and once more we start the cycle of anticipation, expectation, giving and receiving.

So it is with the iPhone.

It's a one-trick pony, and the trick is not in the product and what it can do, no matter what the cost. The trick is in the marketing, the perception, the excitement and anticipation. Once that is over, the iPhone, like all products, will sit on the shelves waiting to be bought, and it will be bought by many -- but never with such a rage of excitement as on that day of June 29, 2007.

That excitement, that sense of anticipation, that eagerness will have to wait for the next big company with the next BIG thing to come along and tantalize us all with the promise of a better tomorrow through new ways of doing what we can do today.

Then, high-tech Christmas returns, or so consumers endlessly hope.

Which brings up the subject of happiness itself.

Why do people want the iPhone, or any product or toy for that matter, so eagerly? Would one be as excited over a new fridge, a stove, a light bulb? Good marketing might possibly create such a sense of excitement!

What makes the iPhone and other products that are launched with great hype (be it a high-tech device or a movie premier) so attractive really isn't what the product can do (which basically many other products can do as well) -- it is the human emotion, the human excitement about the events surrounding the product itself.

And this is conditional happiness -- happiness based on a condition to be in place or the happiness doesn't exist.

Many of the folks who waited in line on June 29th probably have stories to tell of the experience -- their interactions with the others, the way they spent their time waiting, the conversations, the arguments, the adventure. For, as many might reveal, and wise people have been saying for centuries, it isn't BEING there that is the joy and the happiness -- it is the journey.

And once the journey is over -- it's over.

Getting there is half – more than half – the fun.

The problem that most people miss in all this happy joy-joy, is the other side of the coin, what happens when they come down off the "high" of the excitement.

Just as children become depressed on Christmas night and the following days -- as they settle in with the toys that are still working -- many of the excited purchasers of the iPhone will become depressed and maybe even feel a bit cheated by their wonderful iPhones.

Oh, yes, the products will work in most cases. People can make their calls, do their Internet and so on. But they will realize that they were all excited over something that is basically just another way of carrying on day-to-day business.

For some, it will be too much to bear, and Apple and AT&T will get their share of return customers with complaints. Some of the complaints will be exaggerated by the disappointment that many customers won't be able to properly express, the disappointment, the lowered happiness when they realize the iPhone is just -- an iPhone.

It isn't that the iPhone doesn't work properly. It's that it isn't, nor could it ever possibly be, all that it was cracked up to be. It cannot be more that what it truly is, a high-tech communications device.

And this is the cost of "hype".

When one expects the world instead of realizing the reality that no one can deliver the world, one is bound to be disappointed and unhappy.

The danger that Apple and the iPhone face isn't that the product will not work -- it's that it will not be able to live up to the fantasy of consumers' expectations -- a fantasy that Apple itself has created. That's the risk that Apple has taken.

Hopefully, it will pay off for them -- they deserve to be rewarded for providing people with something wonderful to think about and anticipate.

And yes, the iPhone does look ever so cool! But can it make people happy?

The Happiness Conundrum

This happiness -- conditional happiness brought about by a product or event -- is a particular problem in a consumer oriented society.

We look at THINGS as the source of our happiness, the source of our identity, the source of who we are, instead of ourselves.

We see that flashy new car as a way of expressing our power and prestige, the beautiful house, the fancy designer clothes.

Things define us -- we don't define ourselves. And when things wear out or become yesterday's news we must rush out and get new things, constantly re-inventing ourselves in terms of the external.

We, and all that we have, must be forever young. And when we live like that, happiness is, by its very nature, fleeting.

For many it will be a case of "When I get my iPhone, then I will be happy." Having got the iPhone, now they must change the rules. "Okay, when I get the car adapter for my iPhone, THEN I will be happy."

And so it goes in an endless race to happiness that is the carrot before the horse. It can never be achieved because it is always one step out of reach.

But boy, will we pull the wagon of commerce trying to get it!

Core Happiness

Core happiness is a different matter, and no thing or object can change it.

Core happiness comes from within. It comes from knowing and celebrating who we are and what we are about. We recognize ourselves and our values, not as consumers, but as people.

Many comedians tell the story of how they grew up in hard times, in poverty, yet they remember that their families were happy. This life becomes for many the source of their comedy, and people respond to it. They see the truth in the values the comedians are expressing. They had a bond among them that "things" just don't make stick. That bonding is the basic core of human interaction. No toy can ever provide this.

When we have core happiness from within, then these marvelous toys don't disappoint so badly. We see the adventure of the acquisition for what it is, an adventure.

The thing itself takes its proper place as secondary to the human experience.

For many who bought the iPhone after waiting so long, they may look back and realize what was the real fun, the real joy. It wasn't the product, it was getting there. It was the adventure, the other people! (Would it have been so wonderful if only one person camped outside an Apple store?)

We can all maintain a good level of core happiness when we realize the proper perspective of life, when we look within to our human qualities, the adventure of humans working together in some endeavor, the joy of meaningful conversation and human interaction.

Then, we have a happiness that cannot diminish because human beings don't diminish.

When we look within ourselves and can say, "It is enough that I am who I am, and I have value in the world," we have a level of core happiness that cannot be exhausted because we are ourselves.

We know our worth and value it on timeless and intangible values that do not diminish, values of integrity, of creativity, of honesty, of humor and all the other human qualities that raise us to the level of greatness and nobility.

The true value in life is not what we create, it is who we are and how we relate to one another. When we have that, our creations take on this value.

The launch of the iPhone is an opportunity to learn and grow. Some people may even read this article on their iPhones! Great! It is a fun product, an innovative idea, a wonderful design. But in the end, it is NOT a proper source of happiness.

It is a thing to be used and enjoyed, but not a way to define ourselves or our happiness.

Years from now, many iPhones will be in landfills or lost in basements and attics, tossed aside for something newer and better. It will become a vintage collector's item on e-bay! Yesterday's news, yesterday's toy.

Hopefully, human beings will not.

The iPhone, like any creation of human endeavor, brings about the potential for great conditional happiness. But we should never lose sight of the true value in all of this, the core happiness that comes from being human and the human experience.

When we have that, the toys are just as much fun, and as they grow old and unused, we remain happy because we are happy in ourselves.

And that is real happiness.

----------------------------------------

ClydeSight Productions are creators of inspiring and entertaining software, e-books, and music products. Use the navigation above for other parts.
Navigation is also provided at the end of each part.

Classified ad sites often require additional information to better target your ad. It is for your benefit as well as for the viewers of the classified ad site. The information targets the ad so the right people read it.

Classified Ad - Category

When you want to place a classified ad, many classified ad sites will ask you to identify or pick a category for the content. In the example case, PETS would seem to be the best category.

But not all classified ad sites have a lot of categories! So you have to use some imagination here. Other categories -- if pets or pet supplies is not offered -- are: Home, Family, Miscellaneous. Although they are weaker choices, sometimes they are all you have to work with.

Some classified ads sites have a general category, followed by a sub-category. So, while you may not find PETS as a general category, it may appear as a sub category under "Home and Hobby". Every classified ad site handles this differently.

Put your classified ad in the category that is MOST appropriate. Putting your ad in the wrong category can get your ad rejected, or it simply will not get results because the people who see it aren't interested in what you have to offer.
Avoid the temptation of placing your ad in the wrong category to try and get people because of curiosity. This almost never works.

Classified Ad - Region

Most classified ad sites will ask you to indicate a region where your product sells. This is most appropriate for people selling personal property, deliverable goods, etc. In some cases, you can leave the region blank, and your ad will be placed in ALL regions. In other cases, you can indicate region by nation or other boundaries (i.e. ALL US, UK, Canada, Australia, etc.)

If you are restricted to a local region (such as a state in the US, and you deliver by mail or other standard shipping so it doesn't matter which state, you can try indicating the LARGEST state (i.e. California) or a heavily populated one (i.e. New York).

However, depending on your product, this may not work. If you sell snow shoes in the U.S., Florida isn't going to be as good a choice as Michigan! And, of course, if you want people to come to a physical store in Utah, it is pointless to advertise to readers in Texas!

A little common sense goes a long way here!

Classified Ad - Contact Information

Most classified ad sites require that you set up a free account with them. This allows you to go back and edit, renew or delete your ad. You create a username, password and provide a real e-mail address (they WILL write to confirm your listing).

Don't cheat on this - it will backfire. If you are a legitimate business, you WANT this information known publicly so customers can find you! Hiding and being deceptive will not work to grow your business. No one buys from a store they cannot find!

If your product is personal a one time sale, you still must be up front and honest. Hiding will not engender trust! Some classified ad sites will ask for a phone and fax number. You can use sensible precautions here (a business phone, leave out the fax number, etc.) if this is a concern. However, remember that people DO need to talk to you if they are going to be your customers! Many people feel safer purchasing by phone than over the Internet.

TIP #8 - Junk Mail

YES, you will get some junk mail from using some of these free or even paid for classified ad sites. And some of their real communications will wind up in your junk box, so you MUST check this and train your junk program to know the difference as much as possible.

There is no way around this problem. A fake e-mail address or one you don't check is useless. Your customers and some valuable opportunities can come in the strangest ways, so you simply have to check the e-mail! Use sensible precautions. Don't open attachments, display your mail as "plain text" so hidden HTML codes can't work, and read carefully. Your own intelligence will tell you what is safe and what is not.

If junk mail is an issue for you, hire an outside junk mail service and filter your mail through it. OR, use on-line Web Mail readers (almost all ISPs and e-mail providers have this option) and read your mail there. This keeps the mail on their server, not your computer. If it is junk, delete it. If it is not, then open your e-mail program and retrieve the mail safely.

Links to 10 Classified Ad Sites

ClydeSight Productions has placed ads in these sites and they have delivered customers. However, this is not an endorsement nor a guarantee that they will be effective for you.

IMPORTANT TIP!!

You should keep a record of what ad you placed where and when. Classified Ads run for specific time periods and then must be renewed. Some can be edited and changed often. It is strongly recommended that you use your word processor or other application to keep a record. In it include the following:

Ad Copy
URL of classified ad site
Date of posting
ID and password

You can then go to the site and check the progress of your ad using their stats.

USNetAds

No registration is required. Use the navigation above for other parts.
Navigation is also provided at the end of each part.

Body Copy is where you motivate the reader to click on a link, send you an e-mail or take some action to get them to visit or buy. The carefully written classified ad Headline got their interest, now you have to bring them home -- usually to the home page of your Web site!

Be very careful of negative or comparative advertising. This shifts the focus away from you and your product.

If you say "cheaper than stores", people will wonder about the stores instead of you. You could have said "best price".

If you say "better than (name of some competitor)", people will remember your competitor more than you.

If your product or service is valuable, that is what you want to tell people. Negative advertising, while it is a common practice, is not good practice.

Body Copy: Size and the BEA

Some classified ad sites limit body copy from 125 to 255 characters; others are unlimited. Each classified ad site will tell you the limits.

As a general rule: shorter is better. Let the "curiosity factor" work for you. You want to send people into your Web site where you can answer their questions.

It should be written in third-person, objective case, not first-person -- unless that is called for. A lot of Web sites are written in first-person case "I have this great new product for you." and this usually gives the sense of a scam. Customers don't know you, why are you being so personal with them? On the other hand, a true "personal ad" where you are looking for a date or companion, would obviously require the use of first-person, because you are not an object.

Your classified ad body copy has three targets for your readers: Benefit-Emotion-Action (BEA). This applies to any type of ad, personals or otherwise.

Benefit -- Offer a real benefit that is "what's in it for me".
Emotion -- Stimulate an emotion to get them to want to go further.
Action -- Tell them what to do next.

Benefit:

If your classified ad readers feel there is something of value for them in your site, they will go there.

Benefits range in effectiveness. FREE is weak; it is overdone and often used as a trick. Offer them a REAL benefit such as 24-hour shipping, secure ordering from a known vendor such as PayPal, etc. Whatever the benefit you offer, it must be real. If you use a benefit as a trick (i.e. something is free, when it isn't, or there is a catch) you will generate anger and resentment. This will not work to YOUR benefit. So be honest!

Emotion:

You must stimulate an emotion. People often purchase by "gut feeling". Words like "exciting", "fun", "intriguing" are emotional hooks. NEW and UNIQUE can work, if it is true. Think and find an emotional appeal that really does exist in what you have to offer.

Action:

Tell people what you want them to do. Use the word "Buy", if that is what you want customers to do. Otherwise, you will confuse them. However if you are trying to build up interest in addition to sales, the word "Visit" can also work for you. People may go to your site out of curiosity. They can bookmark the site and come back later in case they are not in the market at the moment.

Urgency terms can backfire, so use them with caution. "Now" is a common urgency term. It can be effective, but it is almost understood. "Hurry", Limited Time" are other common urgency terms. Their effectiveness is also limited. If people feel TRUE urgency, it is because they are excited about what you have to offer, not because you tell them to hurry. Obviously, if your product or service genuinely is limited in time (i.e. tickets to a show or concert) then an urgency term would be appropriate.

Be careful in your choice of words. If you are selling books, don't say "Read". If you sell music, don't say "Listen". People will go to your site thinking there is something to read or listen to, and will not like it when they have to buy. If you are selling something, the ONLY customers you want are those who will buy from you. On the other hand if you are giving away articles or music, then the words "read" and "listen" are appropriate.

Tip #5 - Including Web Sites

While many classified ad sites have a provision for your URL somewhere in the ad submission process, not all will allow it. Yet it really helps to include it.

To get around the problem, you can tell readers to visit your Web site by name.

Visit: My Wonder Dog Biz

Here are two examples of a classified ad body copy for the 125 and 255 character limits:

One-stop shop for happy dogs. Food, toys, more. Free shipping, 24 hrs. PayPal. Post dog pics! Visit: My Wonder Dog Biz now.
(123 characters with spaces.)

One-stop shop for a healthy, happy dog. In our fictional ads we can find:

Benefits: one-stop shop, free shipping, secure ordering via PayPal, 24-hour shipping

Emotions: special dog, happy, best, exciting, new, post pictures (the "aw-gee" factor)

Action: Visit: My Wonder Dog Biz now, Buy at: My Wonder Dog Biz

Since people will do a search for: My Wonder Dog Biz, it needs to have good search engine placement. In some case, you could post a URL, but this will take up more characters. If "My Wonder Dog Biz" has multiple listings in search engines, it will add credibility because people will see it a lot.

You can, of course, play with this body copy and come up with different text. This was just one example to show how it can be done.

Tip #6 - Grammar Power

Use language and grammar to your advantage to maximize your message in limited space.

Replace and with commas.

"best supplies, food, toys, more."
instead of "best supplies, food, toys, and more."

Use action verbs instead of adverbs.

shop
instead of shopping. It's shorter and active.

Rearrange word order to tighten.

Secure PayPal on-line order.
instead of Secure on-line ordering with PayPal.

Typography issues:

Avoid special quotes and characters! Some of these do NOT display correctly. "&" for "and" doesn't always work. "Smart" or "curly" quotes often don't display correctly. Use the "inch and feet marks" (dumb quotes) instead. Be very careful of the "em" or "en" dash. Word processors often place these in text and they don't translate. Use the simple "minus sign" instead.

(The Count My Text! utility - can find these codes and mark them for you!)

Classified Ad: Review It!

Now that the classified ad -- headline and body copy -- are created, take a break, walk away for an hour or two, then come back and look at the complete ad.

If possible, have someone else read it. If this is not possible, read it backwards. This helps you find errors that "scanning" - the way we normally read - will miss.

A poorly worded ad will jump out at the reader immediately. Be especially careful of common mistakes that spell checkers can't flag, such as "you" for "your", "their" for "there", "to" for "too" or "two", etc.

Review this sample:

Dog People Love My Wonder Dog Biz - The Fun Place To Get Dog Supplies!

One-stop shop for a healthy, happy dog. They are listed by topic category (i.e. wanted, for rent, personals) to make them easy to find, and they are distributed locally and/or globally on the Internet. Often, you can control this distribution.

A lot of people read Internet classified ads, so don't dismiss this sales channel.

Many Internet Classified Ad Sites will offer you free listings and "paid for" options, such as a featured listing, a bolded listing and so on. Rates vary.

If this is a new venue for you, the best approach is to submit and track the performance of a few FREE classified ads as a start.

A poorly written classified ad will not help you. If you are just getting started, it would be wise to avoid paying for anything until you have a good classified ad and discover a site from which you get a good response. THEN, by all means, pay for additional features to improve exposure.

TIP #1

There are vendors who will offer to "blast" your classified ad to thousands or millions of classified ad sites, for a subscription fee or one-time cost. Some sell a program, some use a Web based service. WAIT before using these services, and even then, check them carefully for what they actually provide!

Try out some FREE classified ads until you have a really good ad going, THEN, you can consider using these services.

There is no point in spending money to distribute a classified ad that doesn't work!

Tutorial - Fictional Web Site

This tutorial will talk you through placing a classified ad for a fictional Web site called: My Wonder Dog Biz.

The site is all about dogs - it sells pet supplies for dogs, dog beds, collars, food, etc. It also allows visitors to send in pictures of their puppies and dogs and see them on-line. It offers free shipping and handling within 24 hours of order and uses a secure on-line ordering system via PayPal.

The Web site needs customers and sales. Classified ads are a way to start getting them.

Classified Ads - The Five Basic Requirements

A classified ad consisting of:

Headline

Body Copy

A region where you will sell (i.e. USA, UK, Washington, Alberta, Canada, etc.)

A category -- the area of interest where you will place the ad. i.e. Pet Supplies, Home and Family, etc.

A Web site and a REAL e-mail box for your ad provider, customers or respondents.

REAL company information about you -- name, address, phone number, etc. so they can contact you.

TIP #2
Some free classified ad services will allow you to post a classified ad anonymously, so you won't need item 5. However, most classified ad sites do require full disclosure.

Create The Classified Ad - HEADLINE

In this part of the tutorial we will deal with the Headline because it is extemely important.

WRITE ALL PARTS OF YOUR CLASSIFIED AD ON YOUR WORD PROCESSOR so you can have a copy of it for revision later on! DO NOT make up a classified ad on the fly within a classified ad site, you'll only get confused! You can copy and paste your ad into the appropriate places on the classified ad site. Copy and Paste can work across programs, so what you copy in one program or application can be pasted into another.

TIP #3

In case you didn't know, copy and paste can be done using a keyboard short-cut.

COPY:

Windows: Highlight some text. So it is very important to get people to click on it to read the rest of your ad!

Space is usually very short. You will usually be limited from 40 to 80 characters, although some classified ad sites do not specify length.

TIP #4 - What Does Character Count Really Mean?

That "40 characters" has significant meaning. People are used to seeing these and they know that anything that says it is HOT usually is NOT. It's a cliche and those usually never work.

Avoid the USE OF ALL CAPS! Many classified ad sites won't allow it. It's tough to read. Instead, use Title Caps (Capitalize The First Letter Of Each Word).

Target your headline about what you offer.

Think like the potential classified ad reader.

What would excite him or her to click on your headline and read your ad copy?

What would excite YOU to do the same thing in a similar situation?

Getting this right is a matter of trial and error. You have to try different headlines until you get people clicking in. Some classified ads will show you stats and allow you to edit an existing ad, so you can fine tune and experiment. If you see stats that say your ad was exposed 20 times and you only got one click on the headline, you can bet that you are either in the wrong category or your headline is not compelling. Usually, the fault is in the headline.

Classified Ad Headline - Example

Our fictional Web site is about dog products. FIRST, think of what it has to offer. It has dog supplies AND it allows people to send in pictures of their pets. That is what you tell people in your headline, AND you give them a reason to look further.

Have Fun Getting Great Dog Supplies!
(This 36 character headline fits within a 40 character limit)

Dog People Love My Wonder Dog Biz - The Fun Place To Get Dog Supplies!
(This 70 character headline fits within the 80 character limit AND it names your website - My Wonder Dog Biz)

(In these examples, the Count My Text! utility was used for character count and optimization!)

People who read classified ads are used to the short headlines. Usually, one or two words will grab their attention because it is what they want (in this case, dog supplies). The rest of the headline is what puts you ahead of your competition -- everyone else who has the same words the potential customer is looking for.

In this case, the word FUN was used to stimulate curiosity, which can result on a click into the ad body.

With a little imagination you can write a compelling headline that attracts interest and avoids cliches that will hurt your chances of getting a viewer and potential visitor, customer, etc.

Now that the headline is created, it is time to drive your point home using the body copy. While many Internet classified ad sites have some instructions to help you post an ad, sometimes these instructions are confusing, or lack detail. This tutorial explains the steps -- in detail -- to create and post a classified ad, and it gives you some tips for writing better ads that will help get you the results you desire.

It has four parts (navigation is at the top and bottom of the pages). To make this process as easy as possible:

It will use a fictional Web site as a model.

It will give you TIPS on things to help you -- and things to avoid.

It will give you a set of links to some free classified ad sites that you can use to get started, and some other sites that you will find useful.

For the best results, read the tutorial in order. Avoid the temptation to jump to the links area and dive right in, this could be a problem if you don't know the basics!

The Need To Advertise

"Build it and they will come" was a great line in a good movie, but not even the studio followed that advice -- they advertised and publicized the film!

The same is true of your Web site or on-line store, blog, etc.

Getting it together, getting your domain name, having it up on the Net, etc. is just one step of many, because once it is ON the Net, you now must tell people -- the RIGHT people -- about it so THEY WILL come!

You will find a lot of sites and programs (usually at a cost) that will tell you that you must have TRAFFIC. This is true, up to a point. The problem with the logic is that there is a huge difference between traffic and TARGETED traffic. To successfully sell, you need targeted traffic.

Think about it.

Many people drive their cars past a store. They SEE the store, and that is all.

SOME drive their cars into the parking lot and go into the store to buy things.

What gets some people to drive their cars into the parking lot and then buy from the store? That's the trick!

That's where targeted advertising and publicity comes in. And this is where many people drop the ball.

Advertising and publicity -- often referred to as marketing -- is daunting and expensive -- or is it?

Actually you can do some of this yourself, and for FREE!

Once source is FREE Internet Classified Ad Sites.

Classified Ad Sites can be a very useful marketing tool because you create a compelling short ad which you place in a specific category and target to a geographical location (this can be the entire planet). This focuses your offering to a greater customer potential than raw traffic.

People who read classified ads -- and there are millions -- look in the category of their interest, and their geographical location (if it applies), see your ad -- along with many others -- and if your ad is compelling, they go to your Web site to buy.

This is the basis of targeted traffic, which Classified Ads are very good at attracting.

Play By The Rules!

Most classified ad sites post very specific rules, especially regarding adult content material and affiliate marketers. You should read these rules very carefully. If you abuse their system, you can be blocked from ever using it again. You should also have something legitimate to sell, not a scam or scheme. Again, if you get caught trying to scam or push a scheme, you can be blocked and banned.

On the other hand, using a classified ad site to sell a product you make, or are authorized to sell, or simply to get interest in your Web site, is a perfectly legitimate use of classified ad sites. Always read the rules for each classified ad site before doing anything with them.

Getting Started
Now that you have an idea of what classified ad sites can do, read through the rest of this tutorial to learn how to make them work for you. Many classified ad sites allow FREE submissions, so you have nothing to lose. It is an easy and potentially effective way to manage your own marketing.

A well written classified ad can get you a lot of customers.

A poorly written ad will get you nothing.

This conculdes Part one of the Classified Ads Tutorial. If you're looking for a good book, you found it!

Walk On The Wilde Side

The book is a parody of mystery suspense thrillers with some amusing characters in the Oscar Wilde tradition, and situations mixed in with suspense, mystery, and even murder!

In the story, Darla Throckmorton, a proud young socialite and other members of her family living around the quaint English seacoast village of Portsur, plot and scheme with -- and against -- each other to find and posses the legendary Cross of Ramplet.

The Cross is a religious artifact made of solid gold and platinum, encrusted with valuable gems. It was created by the Knights Templar and smuggled out of France in the 1300’s, then mysteriously disappeared. Rumor has it that the Cross went down with a ship off the coast of Portsur. Not everyone believes it, especially when a strikingly similar object appears in the local Anglican Church of the Holy Trinity.

Until, the Church steeple explodes, the roof collapses, and the Cross disappears once more. This sets everyone off suspecting and chasing each other on a wild search to find out "who's got it now."

Along the way, the reader meets delightful characters.

Darla's mother, Leticia, seems to be pretty clueless throughout, constantly chastising Darla and her siblings for their breaches of etiquette, in the style of an Oscar Wilde character. Comments such as "We cannot have furniture wandering about the house at all hours of the night!" and "One does not break wind as the sounding of a trumpet!" are not uncommon for her. But there is more to Leticia than meets the eye, as the reader finds out. She has a checkered past, which she constantly fears will be discovered.

Her husband, Squire Manfred Throckmorton, is no better. He's a shipping magnate with international connections, some of which are more than "under the table".

And, it may take all his fortune and influence to bribe his way out of accusations brought against his wife for murder by the Anglican Archbishop, Arther Dunstable.

But even the Archbishop has several "skeletons in the closet", including two children he "lost" and has no intention of finding!

Trying to keep order among this motley group is Constable Jonas, who is deeply in love with Darla and willing to do almost anything to protect the Throckmorton family. As the reader discovers, his reasons are not entirely amorous, for he too, has a past, and more-- a mysterious responsibility.

These characters are looking everywhere for the treasure -- from the local church to the ruined castle, and no one knows who has it at any particular time.

Their search is complicated by a bunch of nasty pirates, a French secret agent, and a banker named Swindle who is constantly adjusting the accounts! Throughout the adventure, the fabled Cross changes hands several times, adding to the delightful confusion.

This all leads up to the impressive climax that spans four chapters and reveals a great secret that no one could possibly have guessed.

It was a Dark and Stormy Night...

It all starts on that "dark and stormy night..." The novel is not only a rip-roaring mystery suspense book, but also a wonderful parody on other works in the genre, with its complex plot twists, flashbacks and other literary devices that keep readers on their toes while being very tongue-in-cheek. The book is amusing while being as captivating as a more serious work of mystery fiction.

It was co-authored by Cathrine Garnell and Tim Thompson, the team that wrote the popular marketing e-book “A Marketing Feast,” published last year by ClydeSight Productions.

Garnell, a native of Nottingham England, and Thompson, a US resident, began the story as a "writer's challenge.” Catherine started the writing adventure by sending Tim several pages of text by e-mail and leaving him with the words "Take it away, Tim." Up to the challenge, Tim added to the document and sent it back. The challenging novel grew as the authors tried to trip each other up, added characters and twisted the plot in a game of writer’s cat-and-mouse.

The Challenge...

Garnell says: "At first it was an amusement. We did it for fun and to hone our skills. As the story grew, we knew we had something people would enjoy reading as much as we enjoyed writing it. It was a fantastic challenge to work with such a complex plot line and develop a wonderfully diverse cast of multifaceted and dysfunctional characters, all set against a fabulous historic backdrop. It brought a whole new meaning to the phrase: what a tangled web we weave.”

The book took nine months to fully develop and polish. Says Thompson, who created and designed the illustrations and images, "It was so much fun writing the piece, it became rather inspiring. The idea of a secret treasure left by the Knights Templar was intriguing, and I was inspired to create a 3-D image of the Cross of Ramplet. In that development, it took on a lot more meaning and potential than at first we had imagined. That's the joy of creation, when the work takes on a life of its own.”

The Fans...

Readers agree that the book is a page turning adventure. Wrote one fan, “When I read about the Twins, it really took off... the book is one giant puzzle. It works for me.” Another reader sees a possible Hollywood connection, “It’s very easy to read, very cleverly written, and very amusing ... I'd also love to see it as a film!”

The e-book Web site allows visitors to buy the complete novel in PDF format, and has a "Sample Chapters" demo available on the site or from numerous software demo sites. Those site editors have embraced the book -- the demo alone has received 12 unsolicited five-star awards.

Web Site Bonus...

A great "bonus" feature is in the "Clues" section of the site. This is the "Amulet of Adhara Inscription Translator". The amulet is an important article in the story, and none of the characters know what the inscriptions engraved on it mean. But site visitors can figure them out with this FLASH word game. It's not only fun, it is revealing!

The Cross of Ramplet is only available on-line from its own Web site built under the ClydeSight Productions Web Megaplex at http://www.clydesight.com/cofr/ It is not available in stores.

326 pages, 21 chapters, illustrated, PDF format.

###

ClydeSight Productions are creators of inspiring and entertaining software, e-books, and music products.

Chandler of ClydeSight Productionshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08243618364764010598noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27799743.post-26031899668121205062007-02-20T17:34:00.000-05:002007-02-20T18:23:25.634-05:00Products For Our Global CommunityClydesight Productions strongly supports the global outreach and communication made possible by the Internet. DSPP, the new program uses the company's unique subliminal perception technique to deliver subliminal messages to help people overcome the tendency to put off projects and tasks. It helps users change their unconscious thinking about their tasks from something they want to avoid or even dread to something they are eager to pursue and get done, on schedule and done well.

Procrastination comes from a variety of sources, but it always ends with the same results. The person lives in avoidance, has the task or project "hanging over his/her head", and feels anxiety not only about the task, but also about the avoidance of the task.

Get It Done! DSPP helps the user change the pattern and get free of these feelings. It fills the user's unconscious mind with positive thoughts about any task, and eagerness to tackle it and get it out of the way and done. It further helps the user activate intuition, inspiration and imagination when accomplishing the task, making the result more successful.

Get It Done! DSPP is the eleventh in the award winning series of Digital Subliminal Perception Programs from the company. The DSPP series uses a unique approach to subliminal messaging, that of subliminal perception rather than the less effective subliminal persuasion. The DSPP Web site home page explains the difference with examples!

Visitors interested in the DSPP process can also take an on-line tour of how the programs work, no special plug-ins or equipment is required. On Windows, it runs as a desktop wallpaper and is displayed whenever the desktop is visible. When an application is running, Little Angel Messages runs in the background. It uses so little power that it does not interfere with normal computer and graphics operations.

The MAC OS does not support animated desktop pictures, so MAC users must run the Little Angel Messages. in a browser. It is not necessary to be on-line to do this. The browser can be open on the MAC desktop and other applications can be opened over it. When the application is closed, the browser window, and the Little Angel Messages can be seen again.

Here are some pictures of the little angels:

Messages cover a variety of topics and human issues, some profound, some humorous:

God loves you and walks every step of the way with you.
God wants you to be happy.
Happiness is contagious.
When you are happy, you make God smile.

It hurts to be sorrowful, and life has its measure of pain.
God weeps with you when you are hurt.
Seek God's comfort in these times--
Open arms are waiting to embrace you.

Life is a test you cannot possibly fail.
However, you can pull a "D".

Don't worry about tomorrow.
By the time you get there,
you'll have figured out something else to worry about.

God's answer always comes.
Often, when you least expect it.

The Little Angel messages are non-sectarian and non-denominational. They speak of the love of God as embraced by many of the world's great religions, Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Buddhism-- all religions that teach love, kindness, and respect; that believe in a loving God, the Angels and the power of Spirit.

The Little Angel messages range from the profound and inspiring to the humorous, because laughter is a Divine gift.

A repeat customer (Windows user) who bought the software wrote:

"I love the Little Angel Messages. I didn't even try the DEMO download because I knew it would be good. I bought the software outright and it is brilliant -- as is usual with all your products!

It had an interesting effect. I've been all this time clearing the icons on my desktop so I can see the Little Angel Messages. They display in the center of my screen, as recommended. But I had icons all over the place!

So that's done me a favor in itself. I'm always getting told off for that, the proliferation of icons! Thanks for another brilliant program. You always make such inspiring products with hidden benefits!"

Another customer is using the program for holiday gifts. She wrote:

"I think this is much better than sending a holiday card. Imagine having 50 wonderfully inspiring messages always displayed for you all the time. It reminds me of the true spirit of the holidays amid all the rush to buy gifts and decorate and so on. And I also like how it fits ANY religion that believes in God and angels. It's very sensitive to that, and ideal for so many, many people. Great job from a great company!"

For more information. visit the Little Angel Messages. Web site at: http://www.clydesight.com/angels/

Chandler of ClydeSight Productionshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08243618364764010598noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27799743.post-1161820337750238132006-10-25T18:05:00.000-05:002006-10-25T19:14:44.443-05:00ClydeSight Productions Press Release - Oct. 2006 - Count My Text!ClydeSight Productions
Press Release
October, 2006

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

When Character Counts - ClydeSight Productions' "Count My Text!"

ClydeSight Productions has released "Count My Text!", an award winning software utility that helps anyone who is submitting data to the Internet where an accurate character and word count is required.

The program was developed to solve the problem of word processor character and word count reports that do not match those calculated by submission sources on the Internet. This often results in rejected submissions and confusion. It was developed from a discovery of the different way the Internet and word processors view text and documents.

"Word processors are great," says program developer, Tim Thompson, "and are highly sophisticated, but that's the source of the problem. They calculate their word and character counts according to linguistic rules. On the Internet, most input boxes use simple scripts that lack this sophistication. A word processor will "interpret" the count, an input box on the Internet will count everything, including spaces, tabs, special codes and line feeds! This results in an inaccurate word and character count reported by a word processor for text submission on the Internet."

Count My Text was developed to supplement word-processed documents. A user can type text directly into its "Text Input Box" or paste text from any source and run a count. Count My Text reports counts on six levels, including: "characters+spaces+line feeds". This report is especially useful for press release submissions where line feeds are included in the character count.

The program has a "Reveal Codes" box that shows users every character and its numerical position within the text. It displays invisible codes (spaces, tabs, line feeds, etc.) The user can manually change these if desired. But, this isn't necessary because of another program feature - Optimization.

When the user clicks the Optimize button in Count My Text, it scans the text and strips out redundant codes (i.e. the two spaces after punctuation), converts tabs to a single space and strips out all leading and trailing codes, thus lowering the overall count. Additionally, it leaves internal redundant line feeds alone, thus preserving paragraphs. The user selects the optimized text and pastes it into the submission box on the Internet and the job is done.

Says Thompson, "We ran several tests against two popular word processors and Count My Text's optimization feature always reduced the count. While it is possible to check for redundant spaces and codes in a word processor manually, it can involve a few find and replace functions. Count My Text does it at the click of a button."

An added feature of the program is its "Color Theme" interface. It allows users to change the color of the program.

Count My Text launches instantly, uses very little computer memory, and writes nothing to the hard drive. It opens in a small window that can be expanded if desired or used as is, making it easy to switch back and forth with a browser window.

How well does the program work?

The body of this press release was created on a major word processor. It was typed using the "two spaces after a period" convention and there were some accidental spaces placed before line feeds.
The word processor reported:

No report of characters+spaces+line feeds (Important - but missing!),
3,804 characters+spaces (Important!),
3,197 characters, and
604 words.

It was then run through Count My Text and Optimized.
Count My Text reported (after Optimization):

3,817 characters+spaces+line feeds (Important!),
3,776 characters+spaces (Important!),
3,197 characters, and
604 words.

Count My Text works on Mac and Windows and is available on line at the ClydeSight Productions Web site: http://www.clydesight.com/cmt/

###

ClydeSight Productions are producers of inspiring and entertaining music, multimedia, e-books and Web sites.

Chandler of ClydeSight Productionshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08243618364764010598noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27799743.post-1161673227942366142006-10-24T01:50:00.000-05:002006-10-25T19:35:00.440-05:00ClydeSight Productions Releases Count My Text!ClydeSight Productions has expanded our software catalog to include utility software. The first program we are offering is: Count My Text! which has won 16 software awards.

Count My Text! is a new type of word and character counter that is especially helpful for people who are using the Internet to post classified ads, press releases, fill in forum profiles, and other postings where character or word count is required.

It provides an accurate count of any text, showing character count, word count, and four other types of counts. It looks at the text the way the input boxes on the Internet do , taking into account all the hidden codes that may be in the text. Many word processors ignore these codes, yet they travel with the text during a cut and paste operation, a common way of putting data into input boxes on the Internet.

Count My Text! goes further by offering users the option of optimizing their text automatically. When the user chooses this, Count My Text! goes through all the text and strips out redundant and unnecessary codes, for example, the "two spaces after a period" problem that often wastes space. It also removes extraneous line feeds at the beginning and end of text.

This makes the text optimal for input on the Internet.

The response to the new program had been very favorable. Customers are writing in expressing their relief to have a character and word counter they can trust. In one case, it cleaned up a resume for a job applicant that was being rejected and turned into garbage by the posting board. Count My Text! cleared it all up with the push of one button.

In addition to all this functionality, Count My Text! has a unique feature-- selectable color themes. The program comes with seven color themes the user can choose or change on the fly, from cherry red to passion purple. Silly? Perhaps, but people love it!

Chandler of ClydeSight Productionshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08243618364764010598noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27799743.post-1160521017439370172006-10-10T17:55:00.000-05:002006-10-10T17:56:57.450-05:00New BLOG on Subliminal MessagesWe have a new BLOG for people interested in the esoterics and mechanics of Subliminal Messaging.

It's called:
Subliminal Messages Info from ClydeSight Productions
Articles on Subliminal Messages and the Power of Human Potential

We have several articles that help explain the Sublminal process, audio tapes, visual process and more. These aren't your typical computer games that take hours to play on fancy hi-speed equipment. They are more cerebral and run inside an Internet browser. They have a wide appeal with kids and adults because of their sophisticated and outrageous humor, puns and simple approach. A healthy spiritual life adds quality and happiness like no other form of self-expression. Looking for peace and acceptance of one's self in the Universe has been the goal of many for centuries.

There are many divination systems to help people find spiritual comfort from their own inner wisdom and higher self. Many people consult the I-Ching and palm readers and of course, the ever popular Tarot.

Two psychics, Tim Thompson and Felista Gallagher have been reading Tarot for years. Tim is an acknowledged technical wizard and webmaster and Felista is an artist and healer. They combined their psychic and artistic talents to achieve the goal of Tarot guidance and take it a giant step further by adding the spin of interactive computer technology based on the user's own inner wisdom. The result is the new multimedia divination program, the Dream Angel Oracle. (http://www.clydesight.com/DAO)

Dream Angels are those parts of ourselves that speak to us from 'higher self' and give us inspiration spontaneously. We often encounter them in dreams, and they speak to us during our waking hours. That 'still small voice' we so often hear comes from our personal Dream Angels. These are the central characters of the Dream Angel Oracle. They provide a relaxed and enjoyable consultation - complete with original musical background - for the computer user. Anyone can use and understand the program, one simply types a question and the Dream Angels respond.

Tim and Felista knew that the source of wisdom found in the Tarot comes from within ourselves and they also knew that there is a source of wisdom far older and more accurate than all the divination systems ever developed - the power of intuition and dreams. By creating a computer program that helps people tap into their inner resources, they created a new source of spiritual guidance and support from their 'higher self' that appeals to the 21st century mind. The multimedia program contains images of the Dream Angels, their advice, and an original musical soundtrack in a very compact self-running package. No installation is required, and interpretation is intuitive. People instantly understand the advice dispensed by the many Dream Angels.

Customers are delighted to discover the wonderful advice the Dream Angels dispense. Another customer, a teacher from South Africa, has become a fan! She was so impressed with the program that she wrote an article about it in her BLOG "The Angels mould themselves to the character and personality of their user. Each message has a special significance for a special situation. These messages combine to become utterly personalized for each individual user." Cathi adds a note of personal significance: "The Angels have become my close friends over the span of just a week. And the beauty of it is I don’t even have to be very specific when I talk to them. They always offer help, support and encouragement, no matter what my situation."

The software has won several awards, including the Editor's Choice award from FreeTrialSoft, and was rated as 'Exceptional' by ShareTheWare, both of which are carrying the program on-line. In fact, the Dream Angel Oracle isn't available in stores, thanks to an inspired message from the Dream Angels themselves. Since it is a virtual product that works virtually, ClydeSight Productions, the program's producer, took the advice of the creators and sells it directly on-line, thus saving precious resources used in shipping and packaging.

The Dream Angel Oracle is available as a direct download from its own Web site at: http://www.clydesight.com/DAO. Yet they may be missing the one tool that can make a huge difference, a tool that gives them the attitude to excel in writing.

Writing is an essential skill. Students can learn the mechanics and rules, but they often lack motivation and confidence. The result is poor performance, not because they have not learned, but because they do not express what they have learned effectively.

ClydeSight Productions solves this with Power Writing DSPP, from their Brain Wave Stimulating Digital Subliminal Perception program series (http://www.clydesight.com/DSPP). It's a visual subliminal perception program that runs on the computer desktop in 15-minute sessions. The user just starts the program and looks at the monitor while it displays an abstract animation and the subliminal messages. There is no soundtrack, and no special equipment is required. During a session, positive, confidence building, attitude-changing affirmations are sent directly to the unconscious mind, replacing negative self-defeating thoughts and ideas about writing.

Writing is the second most important form of human communication. It's a form of self-expression and therefore very personal. A writer's confidence can be eroded by negative experiences-- a harsh criticism, a low grade, an insult. The result can be writing anxiety, a need to avoid writing, and then to rush out a poorly written piece at the last minute, just to get it done.

The Power Writing Digital Subliminal Perception Program helps replace writing anxiety and low self-esteem with confidence and empowerment through positive "I" centered affirmations that engender an unconscious feeling of excitement and confidence about self-expression through writing-- regardless of the topic.

It also contains some practical affirmations. "I always spell check my work" and "I enjoy researching my topic" helps students-– or any writer-- feel good and automatically do what is mechanically necessary for good writing. The program is enhanced with Activator Phrase (TM) technology-- a trigger phrase that recalls the positive affirmations even when the program is not being viewed.

The program can be highly effective for students from grade 8 through college. This isn't mind control. It's a way to help students overcome self-defeating attitudes-- attitudes they sometimes can't even express. When children are using the program, a parent, teacher or counselor can sit with them to provide additional support and help them keep focused on the screen where the affirmations appear. Older students can manage this on their own.

The time for this program is now, when school is starting. Parents, teachers, school counselors who provide Power Writing sessions to students will see results over the school term. The more a student views the program, the more the positive attitudes will take hold and the student will be able to succeed - and excel-- at writing tasks and academic performance.

Power Writing is only available for purchase on-line. Some products are not kind and gentle, others are mildly effective and some are very effective. It's a gamble, and can get expensive. But products wear out or lose effectiveness over time. What pet owners need is a permanent solution to manage pet behavior in all situations.

ClydeSight Productions has released a new Digital Subliminal Perception Program (DSPP) (http://www.clydesight.com/DSPP/) that comes to the rescue. Called Psychic Pet Control DSPP, it has a unique approach to pet behavior control-- the power of psychic communication!

Psychic Pet Control DSPP is a visual subliminal perception program that runs on the computer desktop (Win and MAC)in 15-minute sessions. The user (not the pet!) starts the program, visualizes a desired pet behavior and looks at the monitor while it displays an abstract animation and the subliminal messages. There is no soundtrack, and no special equipment is required. Positive, attitude-changing affirmations activate the unconscious mind to increase its psychic communication skills and thus the user is able to "send" the visual messages to the pet. Additionally, the affirmations instill an attitude of respect, observation and care for the animal. Because everything is visual, there is no "translation" problem. 'A picture is worth 1,000 words', and animals-- who cannot use words-- can certainly understand what they see. In fact, they usually see far more than we do! So transmitting a visual impression of desired behavior psychically makes it easy for the animal to understand. It is most effective when working with cats and dogs.

Not As Crazy As It Seems!

There is nothing new about psychic communication, especially with pets. The phrase "You know what I mean!" is an example of how much we humans believe in it. Pet owners often report that their animals are "psychic", that somehow they "know" things. People report amazing stories of how a pet "knows" something they need, and responds-- often dramatically rescuing a human from a bad situation. What's missing in the equation is a person's ability to use their natural innate psychic abilities to communicate with their pet. This is what Psychic Pet Control DSPP improves.

Tim Thompson, developer of the program, learned the psychic technique from his cat, Eddie. Eddie had developed a litter box problem. He'd poop just outside the box.

Says Tim, "I was a little confused. Eddie was perfectly healthy, the Vet checked him out. He had a very nice covered litter box – which I always kept very clean-- and he always had good litter box behavior. I thought and thought, and suddenly, I saw a picture in my mind of Eddie using the box. The poor thing was hunched over very uncomfortably because of something I had NOT considered. Eddie had grown into a big cat, but his litter box had not grown with him. So it was uncomfortable for him to use it.

I removed the cover and Eddie started using it again as desired. But then I realized the box itself was just too small in area. It was another visual impression of a very frustrated cat in a very tight space. So I got a new, much bigger box with more "real estate". I hardly had the thing set up when Eddie came in and used it, right in front of me. Of course, I verbally praised him and then went about my business. That evening, Eddie came to me as I was watching TV. He jumped on the sofa (which he rarely does) and looked me straight in the eye. The look was fascinating, and the impression I got was 'Thanks for listening!' Eddie has no more litter box problems!"

The obvious next step was to try the process in reverse. Again, Eddie proved a good subject. Says Tim, "Eddie has a habit of sleeping on the computer desk. There really isn't enough room and I'd prefer he not do it. One day, while he was sleeping on the desk, I decided to try some psychic communication. I visualized him getting down and not returning. He woke up a few minutes later and jumped off the desk. The next day, as I was working, he came in, looking ready to pounce. I said nothing but visualized him sitting down on the floor instead. I kept the picture in my mind. It was fascinating. He twitched his tail for a moment, licked his lips, then sat down on the floor, just as I had pictured! I went back to my computer work and visualized Eddie going into the other room to take a nap. Amazingly, a few minutes later, he did exactly that, just as I had seen it in my mind!"

Thompson is a veteran of animal care. He was a member of the Board for the Melrose Humane Society for 8 years and is the Editor and founder of the "How To Live With Your Cat Journal" (http://www.clydesight.com/livecat), a free on-line e-zine with articles on creating a harmonious and happy environment for cats and humans. Psychic Pet Control DSPP is the logical extension of Thompson's work. In addition to the obvious benefits of the program use, it can help animal shelters.

Says Thompson "We have an affiliate arrangement available for any pet shelter who sells the program to their patrons. They get a percentage. Everybody wins. The pet owner has a permanent and humane tool for managing their pet's behavior, the shelter earns much needed funds, the pets live in a happy and harmonious home, and our message of humane and sensible animal control goes out into the world. it's a total Win-Win situation!"

Psychic Pet Control DSPP can work with cats and dogs and is only available for purchase on-line.
