The head and tail of this thing was produced by a local artist. The boat was built by Breast Cancer survivors and is truely a work of art and dedication not to mention an overwhelming sense of accomplishment and determination went into its' construction. The pride is visible on the paddlers. And let me tell you, for an 800lb boat with 20 paddlers it moves quickly and as this picture can't truely demonstrate, comes at you very, very quickly. My work brings me in contact with many people with cancer and it is wonderful to see their individual and collective achievements and I thank the ladies for allowing us the opportunity to witness such a significant part of their lives.

Stan Mac Kenziehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13427681844181655931stanmac@nl.rogers.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27589269.post-68958304680534923312009-07-12T10:16:00.002-02:302009-07-12T10:35:37.893-02:30"Opportunities..."<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_dA88ZHMFG9Q/Slncec13OaI/AAAAAAAAEJY/gl7cNocrE0s/s400/P7110076.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5357555647430212002" />
Nice Boat Michael.
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_dA88ZHMFG9Q/SlnceCH9d-I/AAAAAAAAEJQ/AKG6ByeTI48/s400/P7110087.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5357555640258361314" />
Another nice boat Michael.

Well I finally got to meet fellow blogger from Quebec Townships, Michael Bradley of Canadian Sea Kayaker blog fame. Michael's blog is enjoyed by people around the world. It is like reading the morning rag for most. I've discovered it a bunch of years back now and was thrilled because as a mentioned before it in a blog post it was Michael who twigged my interest in kayaking about 11-12 years ago with an article he wrote about Igoolit and paddling there. Michael has worked in the Arctic as a Teacher I believe, retired now he gets to travel about and enjoy paddling on others' waters. It was a nice surprise to have him at our safety day and certainly a very nice surprise to have met him. I can only hope we get to paddle together during his short stay. My phone number is 753-9812 Michael as I forgot to give it to you yesterday.

Maelstrom Kayaks produces the Vaag, the black and yellow boat Michael brought with him. So we got to exchange kayaks and give each others a try. The Vaag is a delight to paddle and nimble on edging and would be a great rock hopper in our area for sure. I could see this being fun in the surf as well. But I must also say geeez those Nordkapps' just look so good ....can I have my boat back please....LOL. I believe Boreal Designs will be actually selling the Vaag and its sisters under its' own banner.

Stan Mac Kenziehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13427681844181655931stanmac@nl.rogers.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27589269.post-30914251467117719222009-07-12T10:10:00.000-02:302009-07-12T10:11:07.526-02:30"A True Trooper"<img src='http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_dA88ZHMFG9Q/SlnZ4Y7uoAI/AAAAAAAAEJE/belGwSXSRNw/s400/P7110078.JPG' border='0' alt=''style='clear:both;float:left; margin:0px 10px 10px 0;' />

At our safety day yesterday this young gal must have been on the water for the whole day. A prime example of how limited even the powers of nature are in reclaiming itself, recycling and healing. Plastic is the plague of the earth. Even on this toy you can see how the metal is being reclaimed buy oxidation, rust. That plastic will be around for many, many years. You see this plastic on so much of the coastline you paddle today. This days' paddle was clean, obviously not totally virgin clean but seemingly protected and the life that we saw on land, in the air, on and under the water was an inspiration of sorts to instill hope in that there are beautiful parts of the earth and that they are thriving but perhaps still fragile and sometimes they are right in your own backyard.

Stan Mac Kenziehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13427681844181655931stanmac@nl.rogers.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27589269.post-72136463547789280702009-07-02T23:04:00.003-02:302009-07-03T00:13:31.527-02:30"The Kayak-arazzie"<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 244px; height: 320px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_dA88ZHMFG9Q/Sk1hxsU2OgI/AAAAAAAAEG8/eJQ9cAL6ZoQ/s320/P7010071.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5354043038353472002" />

It's a balance most times. Being in the kayaking moment and missing that photo moment or being in the photo moment and missing that kayaking moment. A delicate balance because I enjoy both. We are ever more prevalent than before however. Everyone has a camera everywhere.
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_dA88ZHMFG9Q/Sk1hxda4JoI/AAAAAAAAEG0/ENO10MDGVrY/s320/P7010070.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5354043034352232066" />

It's more than just a photo to me and most likely to most. It is a memory, a thousand words and more, that conjures up dormant smells and sounds only roused by a quick glance at that shot , that image snapped not so Long or even very long ago.
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 204px; height: 320px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_dA88ZHMFG9Q/Sk1hxI6oVII/AAAAAAAAEGs/6R-DjgFfP9I/s320/P7010143.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5354043028848268418" />

It does not have to be complicated, theatrical, choreographed, even of high or good resolution, as, sometimes an image, just has to be, to invoke the meaning and feelings it can. That's what I like about photos sometimes the more decrepit, unorthodox, lousy picture will instill the most emotion. But more than anything I love that I was there and I like being reminded of that when I look back on my shots because I am taken back to that moment and some days that is all I want, some days that is all I feel I have!

Stan Mac Kenziehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13427681844181655931stanmac@nl.rogers.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27589269.post-16541685796570329292009-07-02T22:59:00.003-02:302009-07-03T00:13:22.666-02:30"Clams and Stars"<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 282px; height: 400px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_dA88ZHMFG9Q/Sk1fhKU9O9I/AAAAAAAAEGk/sEoqOZOAcJ4/s400/P7010136.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5354040555325963218" />

A little deep for clarity but they were there thriving on the bottom unbeknown st to only those trespassing below and .......above.

Stan Mac Kenziehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13427681844181655931stanmac@nl.rogers.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27589269.post-26270196156034919712009-07-02T22:44:00.003-02:302009-07-03T00:13:13.495-02:30"Underneath"<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_dA88ZHMFG9Q/Sk1b8GR6okI/AAAAAAAAEGc/lwy1l8NCctU/s400/P7010138.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5354036620049424962" />

Underneath the water is a realm of life so pristine and captivating that we are sometimes amazed at the beauty that exists there even when sometimes it is not animal. The significance and relevance are just as important in the plant kingdom above and below the oceans and waters we paddle. It is great to just take pictures of kayaks and the people in them and the surroundings that they highlight, but it is truly the living world that really enhances our understanding of the significance of being able to be part of it all and really appreciate our kayaking environments. I guess it brings home the realization of the fragility and vulnerability of any living thing. Thanks Peter for making this day a memorable one for me. There was no rushing, no timeliness, just paddling! I love being lost like that.

Stan Mac Kenziehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13427681844181655931stanmac@nl.rogers.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27589269.post-6701347331385890332009-07-02T22:31:00.005-02:302009-07-03T00:19:48.898-02:30"The Jelly"<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_dA88ZHMFG9Q/Sk1ZdI83BkI/AAAAAAAAEGU/WKFEfBWu7dc/s400/P7010151.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5354033889167214146" />
Jelly Fish we call them.
