That's our new feed! This one is going to be phased out, well it pretty much is phased out, there's just gonna be a couple more posts mirrored here until hypem moves us over. So yeah for all those on rss readers, change that over.

So this is the last official post post thru scattermish.blogspot. We're moving over to the bigger and better scatterblog.com!! This blog has come a long way since it started out of my bedroom back in '06. We're now a whole team of writers including me, Mu-Gen, Lewis CanCut, Mat Cant and Buff Diss. We run "Scatterblog Presents" club nights here in Melbourne which keep getting better and better (we have sooo many good things in the pipes for 2010!!). We have now started up our label, Scattermusic with heaps of good things coming out (read below).

There's a whole new site with new features - it's gonna have all our releases; all our events, including bios, profiles and the rest; pictures from our nights; videos from nights, video clips and more; podcasts and mixes; there's profiles on us, producers and labels we like. Basically there's a whole lotta content and it's all easily navigated.

Anyway, i'm soo excited that this has come out! It marks our first official release, and the beginning of an empire, haha. It's already been getting a bunch of plays on radio in the US, here, UK etc., and played by the likes of Sinden, Diplo, Neoteric, Ajax and Act Yo Age to name but a few.
As you've probably heard, we're giving away all our releases for FREE! You'll be able to grab every release here, on the blog as they're released. And there's gonna be some shit-hot releases in the next few months. Our release schedule features original releases by some great internationals that we're such big fans of; Edu K, Dubbel Dutch and Dirtybeats, then we'll be pushing some locals that need to be heard like Lewis CanCut, Tranterco, Cumbia Cosmonauts, Paz and Slap & Dash (ft Spoek). Seriously the tunes and (massive) remixes are shaping up so well, i can't wait until we release them all! Gonna be a busy 2010 @ Scatterblog... Anyway......

Mat Cant and Scattermish are two names that are not shy to air horns, basslines, hype drums and parties. With Hornbo they've managed to incorporate all that into a dancefloor anthem that gets rowdy with a series of horn stabs, frenetic drums, drops and breakdowns.

The remixes come from Sticky K, who has flipped the tune into a big-room storm for the dance floor, Yacht Club who have weirded it out and made it even more hype, The Hump Day Project who have sent the bassline rolling and the guns shooting giving it a tech feel and Paz who has turned it into a 150bpm ghetto house bonanza!

Scatterblog does disco! Normally a hustler of upfront club music I'm gonna change things up for this post with as we bring you a free download of the new ep from the elusive Melbourne boogie-soca-disco-afro-cosmic master, Pharoah Zap. As tropical flavours shape up to be the sound of our Melbourne summer, we've all been collecting warm beat driven tracks like a bunch of crazies and perhaps neglecting groove based music on the same summer tip. Time though to fix that, pour a little rum and wear your best cane hat a little lower.

The Pharoah had his personal assistant call me from the studio and request a remix, which I was happy to supply in return for a small island in the south pacific. Not a bad trade considering all I did was bump the tempo, add some compulsory blips and an occasional elephant. Anyhow, without any further lies I bring you 'Discreole'.

Douster goes Triassic!

Yes yes yes, Douster owns us... We've been hanging to get our hands on the full version of his latest EP on ZZK Records, "Triassic", which shows him going back to prehistoric times and imagining the soundtrack of a life during that fabled dinosaur era. With "raw rhythms, primitive melodies and cavemen chants that sound from a world when the land masses were connected, (Douster is) shedding borders and grooving primitively to his strain of electronic music. Sounds like fun yeah? Especially when Douster says that this image inspired him.

Be sure to pick up the EP, out Oct 20th (same release date as Hornbo, whoop!)

This one sees him pushing through more of a sorta afrojacked club teritory, but still throwing in the odd hip-hop/dancehall jam, a bit of tropical and some originals- shaking the mix to be totes Douster...

Rob Threezy & Hornbo Release Party @ The Espy, 24th October '09

Rob Threezy exploded onto the scene with his cut up, philly-club rave-anthem, "The Chase" which was featured on the Brick Bandits EP put out on Mad Decent. He's a certified member of both Chicago’s Ghetto Division and the Infamous Brick Bandits crew, and at just 20 years of age Rob3 already has a host of forward-thinking dance music tracks on Mad Decent, Nightshifters, T&A Records, 2 Hype Records and has remixed the likes of Diplo, Blaqstarr, DJ Mujava, Jokers Of The Scene, Daniel Haaksman and AC Slater to name a few. Threezy also has upcoming material scheduled for Compost, Fools Gold and OMG Records.
Into and producing so many great type of music, Rob3's sets sound really exciting - the live show should be nothing short of gold.

The show will also mark the first official Scattermusic release of Mat Cant and Scattermish's hyped up, horn fueled track, "Hornbo". The release comes packed with remixes by Sticky K, Yacht Club, The Hump Day Project and Paz and has been getting dancefloor love all over.

The show will be a night to remember, with extra support coming from Slap & Dash, Lewis CanCut, Mat Cant, Scattermish and Mu-Gen. AND DAMN IT'S FREE ENTRY AGAIN!!! Goes 10pm-3am.

There will also be some dodgy physical copies of the digital only release. And hold tight for the digital release which will come out, along with our new website on Oct 20th!

Dinko Mandrake

Damn, bout time we actually put something up about this release ay. The EP has had plenty of it's own hype anyway, so there was no real rush, but since the totally super-awesome Sharkslayer remix has been put out for posting as promo, i gotsta put it up. Also there's the Synthapella version of "Future Boy" that we wanted to put out as promo for the release that never really saw light.
For those who don't know, Digital Manges was a side project of mine that has now broken up - i'm sure i've mentioned a few times that it was a side project, just still no one actually knows and i get that "oh, that's you?" reaction always.

Anyway the Sharkslayer remixes have been getting sooo much attention. Played by seriously everyone, featured on the Major Lazer essential mix, and omg, played by Tiesto, which is like the funniest and most awesome thing i've ever seen, hahahah:

He played the Clubmix, which i used to play- but now i'm more obsessed with the Dubmix (real happy we decided to fit both of them in the release). So here's the Dubmix for download. You can buy the rest of the release, out on Palms Out Sounds from beatport, itunes, juno and etc (with awesome remixes by and Dubbel Dutch and JKamata on there, as well as the track "Future Boy").
For a bit of back-story, the original tune "Manges" was our first collabo that we did all the way back in like mid 2007. It got played by Drop The Lime and got some attention by Haldan/Boody B who signed it up for release. Then we created the other tunes to fill out the release, which eventually turned into two. There's also a few other tracks we did which will never see the light of day, the best of them probably being "Love Affair" which you can listen to on our myspace.

And as for the "Future Boy Synthapella" here it is... Can be used as a dope little DJ tool to chuck in da mix. It definately has a lot of remixable quality with it too, and I think it'd fit well into the current club sound, just needs a remix. So on that note, if anyone does do a remix, please hit me up with it and i'll chuck it up on the blog, would love to hear what you do with it if you do anything!

While we're on the radness of Palms Out and Dubbel Dutch, they've got a dope new single out and have given up a track to post. Dubbel Dutch has been a big favourite of ours at Scatterblog, so we're all to happy to drop the lil bomb of info that he's gonna put out an EP with us early next year on Scattermusic!!! Gonna be some new direction in sound for him so look the fuck out!!
As for the Trollsta EP (grab it here), it's dope. I can't look past the original- def my favourite off the EP and have been playing it for a while now. You'll have to go by that tho, but here's the dope Round Table Knights remix (they're quickly making a name for themselves in that kinda minimal club vein):

Nu Skool

I was really surprised when I had a look back through our archives and realised we hadn't done a post on Mowgli's firing up label, Deadfish Audio. They've been putting out releases by some top producers - Mowgli, Solo, Round Table Knights, Camel and really pushing their own individual sound, gaining a big following in their wake. Deadfish has it's own style of minimal... It's really deep with a lot of atmosphere, almost putting you straight into the scene of a movie. It has plenty of clicks and blips, and it's really rolling and clubby. The most important thing however, is that under all of this there's a very distinct underlying bit of fun. Their tunes always manage to get me moving in a certain way that i don't do with most minimal tunes. With each release, Deadfish are really cementing their sound (which many are coining "Midget House") and i really can't wait to see what else they put out...

We've been given a 128kbs version of Nu Skool, from the new Mowgli EP of the same name. The EP also features a Camel remix, and the totally awesome "London To Paris" (definitely my favourite for the club) which is making a climb up the Beatport charts, so be sure to grab it!!

ScatterCam - Part 1

Here it is, what you have all been waiting for, SCATTERCAM!

This is the first installment of what will be a regular thing at all our Scatterblog parties from now on. We will pretty much be filming our parties and putting together a 3-4 minute video for you all to look back on or witness what you missed out on! If you see us putting a camera in your face, there is a good chance you will be in one of these videos. We will be filming this Saturday once again at our party with Foamo so make sure you keep an eye out...

This video is not from a Scatterblog party but from a show we all did with Santiago & Bushido early this month. Only Santiago came out on the tour but he still rocked it just as we expected, and was a really nice dude as well. The night was rad, everyone seemed to get right into it and even though it wasn't our party we still noticed a lot of the Scatterblog party regulars were there, which is a nice thing!

So here it is, hope you enjoy it and look out for more scatterCam very soon!

Foamo @ The Espy this Sat!

This night is gonna be so ridiculously huge... It's both Mu and Lewis's birthday, so we're all gonna be hell roudy, and partying all night then the next day. It's after parklife, so there's mad beats to keep you going after the day (if you got a ticket). It's another god damn free party! And of course, it's Foamo yo. This is him:
Foamo’s sound has turned heads all over the world, scoring big remixes for the likes of Diplo & Laidback Luke, La Roux, Mystery Jets, Cagedbaby and Jack Beats to name a few. He has collaborated on original works with Detboi, and has had huge success with his originals "Moving It Over Here" (Cubism), "Wardance" (So Sweet), "Rockerman" and "Everything Cool" (Wearhouse).
He was nominated as best British breakthrough DJ 2008 by DJ Mag and said to be "One to watch 2009" by NME Magazine and iDJ Magazine.
Scatterblog was the first blog to feature Foamo all the way back in 2007, and is happy to see this come full circle and put on the show for his first tour in Australia. Extra support comes from Slap & Dash, Mu-Gen, Lewis CanCut, Scattermish and Mat Cant for this one. Night goes on 10pm-3am.

Who's There?

A little over a month ago I had the pleasure of meeting Trouble & Bass Heavyweight AC Slater while he was in Melbourne. He was in Australia on tour and had a couple of spare days so we hung out, grabbed some lunch with Nick Thayer and we even went on a road trip to see some native Australian animals. While he was here we also spent a day in Nick's Studio together making a sneaky little bootleg remix of the already huge Riton & Primary 1 tune "Who's There?". We spread it around to some DJs and rinsed it out in the club for a couple of weeks but now we have decided to get it out into the big bad world.

It has been getting hype from the likes of Bass Weazal, Heavyfeet, Andrew Friendly etc... ENJOY!

Another certified banger that came through our blog inbox recently was this lead single off Zakees's upcoming EP titled Ku Ku Bass/The Rise of Anburley. The guy makes tough african club music but with his Philadelphian upbringing strongly audible, sounding like Dj Sega mixed with Dj Znobia. Your probably better off just following the link rather than having me give you anymore simplistic comparisons. Just know thats it's hot and there is plenty more to be expected over Coming months. Zakee's EP is out later this year through Green Owl Records.

I've been working on the new blog layout, adding the finalising touches - by the way if you haven't heard us mention, we'll be launching a new website and the label at the same time, around Oct 24th (Rob Threezy show @ The Espy), so you'll have to update your rss feeds. Or you might have heard us mention it a million times, well now it's there baby... Anyway so i was working on the "Scatterblog Radio" part of the website where we will have all the podcasts and mixes and etc., was writing in the dates of my mixes, and realised the last one i'd put up was from all the way back in 2007!!! What the hell right? 2 years! - which is especially weird because a lot of the readership from here used to follow my mixes...
So anyway i have recorded a couple of mixes in the last couple of weeks. I wasn't going to post them because they aren't really finished and not really properly crafted, but are rather a few tracks i'd worked out to go together to play live. These mixes are just one takes - so i could listen to them and see what was wrong with them and all that. With that said, i actually quite like them, and the recording was pretty good, there aren't too many mess ups or dead spots - they could do with some more tweaking and a better record, but meh. So here i am, fuck it, lets post em.

This first mix i did just this week. I saved the set i did last weekend when we supported Santiago (& Bushido) at The Espy. I decided to make those mixes into a proper set, and added a few more bits. It's kinda like a partied up, slightly more accessible version of the type of tech that seems to be getting people going at the moment, and that i do really love...

A Night Slugs Sweat

I've totally gotten into mix tapes again. I'm finding lots of good ones again and i'm finding a lot more with some purpose and energy. I'm totally into one's that are either genre-specific, or you know, sound-specific, so i go for them a lot. I still cant stand those sorta "april mix" style things usually, you know, whatever hot tunes are in the blog charts for the month, unless they're from some1 i already know and respect, usually. I'm obviously looking for a range of tracks/artists i don't know in a mix, but just enuf that i do know to draw me in. I'm also into just good mixes and mashes in a mix - but that's kinda hard for me to know, so doesn't usually dictate weather i will bother downloading and listening to a mix.

This mix from the Night Slugs fits in with just about everything i've mentioned above. It's on a grimey throwback/bringback, uk funky sorta vibe. It has a bunch of energy, and the mixes keep you pinned throughout. It's also mixed by and features a whole bunch of dubplates, most of which i've never heard, by two modern day genius's, Bok Bok & L-Vis 1990. Seriously these guys are running something, and i really fucken hope that we manage to get them over here to play at a Scatterblog party soon.
This mix is a promo for their upcoming EP on Dress 2 Sweat (pic above is the cover), out i think around September 22nd. EP is fire, you should all get it next week when it's out.

Had to get onto posting this tune as soon as i heard it, and i was pleasantly excited when i found out it was from a sydney dude on an ozzie label!
Tom Piper has obviously been hard at work, cause he has a discography that's already huge, remixing the likes of Sidney Samson, Bass Kleph and Ursula 1000. His latest remix, of Danny T's "Chico" has gotta be up with as one of my favourites. It's got all my boxes ticked for what i want in a song - a droney but bouncey synth (middle drop), some kinda weird horn or tuned instrument that sounds non-western freaking out (third drop), some marching drums, some congas and it changes up so i got cue points galore... What more could a little girl want? Pipe it...

This one turned up in our blog email box recently and to be honest it was the title alone that prompted me to hit the download link. Alone In The Jungle turned out to be totally off the nose and I immediately went into a frenzy trying to find more online info. All I really found out is that they are a production and DJ duo from Tijuana Mexico, that smash parties with a bazillion dubplates. Anyhow the Dirtybeats have a pretty interesting myspace so excuse my slightly lazy research and check it out.

They sent us a bunch of cool remixes but their original production was the pick of the bunch.

Oh man, so glad i just found this in the promo box, i've been hanging to get my hands on the BeatauCue remix of "Pon de floor" since i heard it on that essential mix...
Anyway beatacue was the dude who did that reedit of pon de floor - like adding his own drums and bits over the top of a rip, and making it sound good. Then all of a sudden he has an official remix of da thing and it's like explosion time.
He just does enuf on this remix - just changes up the hook and adds a little bit more drumming, and it redoes this tune all over for me... Hands in the air...

I'v come across soooo much Kuduro music lately that I couldn't help but put some more up. This stuff is pure fire in the club, just listen to the percussive frenzy that is Tira Makossa. I could spend the next 40 years programming drums before ever getting close to this, ah well.

Noite E Dia is one Angola's most successful Kuduro vocalists having put out two collaborative albums with legendary producer Puto Prata plus many solo releases. I'v had the distressed auto-tune stuck in my head for days now.

Came across this gem by Dj Vielo from France and was instantly taken by the simplicity of the synth and drum arrangements. You can really hear the european influence, which certainly isn't a bad thing, just a more stripped back sound is how you'd describe it I guess.

If some douche-bag was to make awkward conversation with me at a dinner party by asking what kind of music I'm into, I'd probably mumble something meaningless and stare at the ground. To answer truthfully though, am I allowed to say "regional music"? Like Philly Club comes from Philly, Baile Funk is from Rio, Bubbling from Holland and Kuduro takes root in Angola. They'd probably think I was a total jerk and walk off but that stuff really interests me. I'd say it's because there is such an overwhelming amount or music available via the internet I find comfort in the cultural significance of regional styles. It doesn't hurt to remember there is more to music right now than pasty dudes nerding out with Ableton in their bedrooms. Anyhow recently I went out on a hunt for Kuduro tracks and thought I'd share some of the kill. Enjoy.

Blip Blips Are The New Wamp Wamp

It's weird, i'm getting tired of all the blips and blops and whoop whoops in songs, just as much as i am getting completely obsessed and overtaken by them (3:30).

So, this remix of the Crookers effort on the Funk Mundial series by Rene Kuppens has totally shot up to my favorite track of the month. The drums are so huge and remind me of a brazilian drumming group - then the track gets so twisted with that laugh hook. Been playing it like every set - kinda hard to get a really crazy response for it by everyone all the time, but mixed right it jaaammms.
Totally stole this tune from the Beatjunks blog (best blog source for dutch house that i've found).

Crookers - Funk Mundial (Rene Kuppens LOL Remix)

Ralvero is another dude who just kinda jumped up outta nowhere - as so many of these artists are for me. This remix of De Bos (grab release here - Funkovic mix is dope too) is my favourite of his, and it's just pure dancefloor hype - sharp drums, white noise, pulling and pushing kik, plenty of blips n blops and a corny vocal about doing something dancefloor related.

A style that we normally wouldn't post her, but considering i'm listening to this album on repeat obsessively, i figure it needs a shot...
The voice of Mayer Hawthorne is just so fucken cool, best word to describe it really. Totally soulful, but still totally individual. His album is out on the seemingly forever great, Stones Throw - who also did the first single as an awesome heart-shaped 45.
I totally recommend the album (pre-order it here), am in love with every song, except maybe the title track... "Maybe So, Maybe No" from the vid above, and "Just Ain't Gonna Work Out" are my pics of the bunch.
