Oh well. I was thinking about quitting anyway. I was getting tired of looking at my face.Christophernoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27395948.post-64109150974292304012008-04-20T19:37:00.003-07:002008-04-20T21:02:54.610-07:00Camera Show Stuff......It's been ages since writing anything here. Not much I've felt like talking about lately I suppose.

I was at the camera show today. I found a Harmony 120 camera with no lens, (perfect for pinhole,) and a Smirnoff M68F camera for $1 each. Also a bag of random 120 and 35mm film for $30. Then I broke down and bought a Pentax K-1000 with a 28mm 2.8 lens. I also got a 50mm 2.0 lens for it. Heather was sweet and bought me some film and a strap for it. I've been hemming and hawing over getting a good film SLR for the last three or four camera shows. K1000's are supposed to be good, simple users. I'm hoping I'll get a lot of service out of this. Too bad I haven't been able to think of anything to photograph lately.Christophernoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27395948.post-32099041735310508242008-03-06T12:47:00.002-08:002008-03-06T12:57:39.149-08:00WTF???So I have this friend I e-mail with. For some strange reason, the e-mail from my yahoo account bounces when sent to her, despite the fact she uses a yahoo account as well. So I e-mail her using my gmail account; an account I only use for spammy things otherwise. I'm in the process of designing something to put up there. Just for fun, and until the new site finished, I put up the website I had in 2004. It won't be there for long, but you'll be hard pressed to go through it all before the new site is done. I did a quick and dirty job changing some domain link. So if something doesn't work, that's why. Enjoy! I only ask that you don't link to it until the new page is finished and online.Christophernoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27395948.post-60707154929878832812008-01-13T19:56:00.000-08:002008-01-13T20:07:40.489-08:00Ah well......I had to exchange the new monitor. It had far too many dead pixels, including a little clump in one spot that would drive me nuts while I touched up dust specks on my photos. The exchange was quite painless and I've only found one dead pixel in the new monitor; in the top right corner where it won't be a bother.

In other news, it was a nice quiet weekend. Pretty much what I wanted. I dreamt that I owned a penthouse in the Living Shangri-La building that's going up downtown. But one of the windows broke and my parent's dog fell out. I wasn't very impressed with that.Christophernoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27395948.post-9399267499636821402008-01-10T08:34:00.000-08:002008-01-10T08:55:15.585-08:00Happy......It was my birthday yesterday and I had a very good day. I got some birthday money from the parents. There was a nice angel food cake with them, my brother and Heather. For dinner, Heather and I ate way too much at The Keg. Very sweet as always, she bought me the book Paris Changing featuring before and after photos by Eugène Atget and Christopher Rauschenberg. It's reminded me of how much I love that city. I also have a new domain for a portfolio website. I'll have to get to work on that soon. With the birthday money, plus the GST rebate and just about every other cent I happened to have, I purchased a 21.6" widescreen LCD monitor. It's quite a change from the old 17" CRT. I'll have to start scanning my 366 photos soon.Christophernoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27395948.post-34221989432668910592008-01-08T14:56:00.000-08:002008-01-08T15:12:10.237-08:00Things don't always go as planned......Today was the day I was supposed to start scanning and uploading the first of my 366 photos. But last night my monitor decided to stop showing the colour green; everything on it has a pinkish hue. Looking at it is very hard on the eyes, and of course scanning properly is impossible. I was going to take a photo of it with my webcam to show off, but it seems that's broken as well. I shouldn't complain too much though. I've had this monitor for almost 11 years and it's served me admirably during that time. On the other hand, this is a very bad time for this to happen from a financial point of view, since I just blew a huge wad of money on those glasses. Tomorrow is my birthday, and I'm told that I'm getting money. So between that and the GST rebate I got today, I'm hoping I can afford a new monitor. If not, then I'm living in a sober, rosy paradise until I can scrape together more cash. We'll see.

In other news, my parent's dog has decided that taking a dump outside is far too uncomfortable; the hallway is much more convenient. It's always fun times at the Evans house.Christophernoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27395948.post-41640604597394486842008-01-06T19:13:00.001-08:002008-01-06T19:13:04.665-08:00Yah, I look like a dork.
my four-eyed boyfriend
Originally uploaded by hessiebell.

Here I am with my glasses. The doctor was a little late due to the inclement weather, so Heather and I spent some time browsing frames. I found some that I really liked, so I bought them. I pick them up on January 5th when I have my next eye exam, and also when I can use the $50 off coupon my mom got when she ordered her glasses there. It's a wonk of money I would have preferred to spend on film and processing, (or beer,) but I guess it can't be helped.Christophernoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27395948.post-63935609091543070722007-12-21T19:36:00.000-08:002007-12-21T19:38:44.206-08:00Glasses shopping: Part 3Checked three more places today. Seriously, they're all starting to look the same.Christophernoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27395948.post-78297929055695132872007-12-20T19:17:00.000-08:002007-12-20T19:42:33.235-08:00Glasses shopping: Part 2"Gee, if you get glasses, maybe that will help with the focus in your photos!" Remind me, why did I take chocolates to the folks at the lab today?

I went to nine different places looking for glasses today. Prices at these places were either close to Lenscrafters, or a little bit cheaper. But I don't think I could live with myself if I had "Playboy" or "Harley-Davidson" glasses, even though they were 30% and 50% off. One place had a buy one, get the second free deal. But I didn't see anything that suited me very well. It didn't help that I was alone without any trustworthy second opinions.

On advice of a friend, I'm going to check online. But I don't think I'd feel so comfortable buying something like this without trying it on first. Same friend also recommended Costco. Maybe Heather will take me there. (Oooh creepy, costco.com has a funeral section.)Christophernoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27395948.post-77400660158311813242007-12-20T12:22:00.000-08:002007-12-20T12:55:59.639-08:00Glasses shopping: Part 1I made my first attempt at shopping for glasses last night. Heather came along for the fun. It wasn't a rousing success. In the entire Lenscrafters, we managed to find two frames that didn't look horrible on me. Unfortunately, thick black-rimmed emo glasses don't suit my face, and round frames, according to Heather, make me look like some guy named Harry Portter, whoever he is. The ones I liked best would have cost around $500 with a "get down on your knees and beg" discount. That's less than I worried it might cost. I was a little unnerved when Heather made me realize that these are going to be a semi-permanent fixture on my face, unlike clothing or cheap sunglasses that can be changed on a whim. I decided to look around a bit more before committing to anything, even though part of me wants to get this the hell over with.

Maybe I should get a monocle instead. It makes sense that it would be half the price of glasses. And it would be hilarious whenever I was shocked and it dropped off my face. Or perhaps a lorgnette would be more suitable. That way I could be very snooty; holding them up whenever I cared to see something clearly.Christophernoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27395948.post-18499898422622018952007-12-15T17:33:00.000-08:002007-12-15T18:10:05.358-08:00Sphere -0.50 Cylinder -0.25 Axis 160I got my eyes tested today, along with both my parents. It seems that I'm nearsighted and need to get some corrective lenses. (I actually did a little worse than my dad.) I have no idea where I'm going to scam the money for glasses. Things have been a little tight as it is.

In completely, totally, entirely and absolutely unrelated news, I now have nine of my pinhole photos available for sale on Imagekind. They have a 30 day, no questions asked, return policy. And if you happen to be in Vancouver, I also have these three photos, printed at 16x20, framed and ready to go.
