Due to the upcoming sale of our house and move (back in to Austin proper - we're out in a rural area near Elgin right now) my weekends are going to be completely eaten up soon. So, I've decided to put the podcast on hiatus for the summer. We're hoping to take a vacation to Maine again this year too, so I'll probably just aim to start back up in September or October. This will also give me a little time to think some more about a few format changes that I've been considering. And this will allow me to finally get on a schedule to put the podcast out at the beginning of a month instead of the end! :)

I apologize to all the folks who have emailed me telling me how much they look forward to the podcast every month since they're going to have a bit of a wait for the next one now! But I'll still be updating the website and news blog as time allows, so you can still get your "Tudor fix".

Until the fall, fare thee well!Larahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16630629272030282584noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27229861.post-45434291389865588542008-03-30T15:30:00.003-05:002008-03-30T18:17:01.344-05:00TudorCast #22- March 2008Featured website: English Heritage http://www.english-heritage.org.uk/
Images of England: http://www.imagesofengland.org.uk/
PastScape: http://www.pastscape.org/

Wikimedia link for fan vaults: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Fan_vaults

Oriel window images:

Shakespeare's Birthplace

Sudeley Castle

Hampton Court Palace

Portcullis images:

Bodiam Castle

Westminster Abbey exterior (can you find all five portcullises?)

Music from Magnatune.com
La Primavera, The Dufay Collective (album "Cancionero") and Jacob Heringman (album "Jane Pickeringes Lute Book" and "Blame Not My Lute")

Intro - "Greensleeves" by La Primavera on "English Renaissance Music"
After news - "Larouse" by Jacob Heringman on "Blame Not My Lute"
After "This Month" - "Galliard" by Jacob Heringman on "Jane Pickeringes Lute Book"
After glossary - "Baloo" by Jacob Heringman on "Blame Not My Lute"
After text - "Dindiridin" (excerpt) by Dufay Collective (album "Cancionero")
After closing - "Differencias sobr'el canto" by Dufay Collective (album "Cancionero")

Episode Transcript

Direct mp3 downloadLarahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16630629272030282584noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27229861.post-10076990673402849382008-02-29T09:40:00.000-06:002008-02-29T09:41:12.398-06:00TudorCast #21- February 2008Featured Website: ThePeerage.com

Internet Archive Text collection "The Chronicle of England During the Reign of the Tudors" Part One and Part Two

Elizabeth I's New Year's Gifts rolls website

Lyrics to "Come Again, Sweet Love Doth Now Invite”

Come again,
sweet love doth now invite,
thy graces that refrain
to do me due delight.
To see, to hear,
to touch, to kiss,
to die with thee again
in sweetest sympathy

Come again,
that I may cease to mourn
through thy unkind disdain
for now left and forlorn.
I sit, I sigh,
I weep, I faint,
I die, in deadly pain
and endless misery

Gentle love,
draw forth thy wounding dart:
Thou canst not pierce her heart; I'm pretty sure the earliest the podcast will get out now is going to be the first weekend of the new year (if I'm lucky). Due to a combination of a dead laptop, a bad cold, a boyfriend recovering from pneumonia and travel, I'm going to have to push the December podcast into January. I had about half of it ready to go but, of course, it is still on the laptop that won't start. I should be able to get that fixed up in the next week or so. But, even if that worked, my voice is in no shape to record at the moment! Hopefully the cough and congestion will pass in the next couple of days and I'll be able to record next weekend.

I hope everyone has a great new year!Larahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16630629272030282584noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27229861.post-47425094316444215182007-12-22T15:46:00.000-06:002007-12-22T15:48:24.281-06:00Traveling for ChristmasI really, really tried to get the podcast finished by today so I could upload it before I went out of town, but last minute running around and packing has prevented it. I promise the December episode will be up before the month actually ends, but it won't be until the 28th at the earliest.

I'll be on the road most of the day tomorrow and then visiting with friends and family for a while, so updates may be sparse and slow. So, if I don't get a chance to post again until the new year, I just wanted to wish everyone a happy holiday season, no matter what you celebrate this time of year! Here's to a great 2008!

Larahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16630629272030282584noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27229861.post-44521547287465414072007-11-25T19:50:00.000-06:002007-11-25T20:22:45.732-06:00TudorCast #18 - November 2007Featured Website: The British Library

Music from Magnatune.com

La Primavera, The Dufay Collective (album "Cancionero") and Jacob Heringman (album "Blame Not My Lute")

Intro - "Greensleeves" by La Primavera on "English Renaissance Music"
After news - "Passe Velours" by Jacob Heringman on "Blame Not My Lute"
After "This Month" -"Ya cantan los gallos" (excerpt) by Dufay Collective on "Cancionero"
After glossary - "Wolsey's Wilde" (excerpt) by La Primavera on "English Renaissance Music"
After text - "Trenchmore" by Jacob Heringman on "Blame Not My Lute"
After closing - "Recercata segunda" by La Primavera on "English Renaissance Music"

Episode Transcript

Direct mp3 downloadLarahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16630629272030282584noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27229861.post-8410053497598328742007-11-22T17:57:00.001-06:002007-11-22T17:57:46.006-06:00Happy Thanksgiving!I would like to wish all my fellow Americans a Happy Thanksgiving! Only seven people of 213 admitted to Tudor tattoos. :)

Updated to add: Just in case anyone was interested in how the winners were chosen... I pasted the email addresses into an Excel spreadsheet, so there was a number for each address. Then I went to Random.org and had it generate 5 numbers in the range that the addresses covered (1 to 185, I think). And that's how they were chosen. If it had been less than 100, I might have gone the "slips of paper" route, but I really didn't feel like cutting nearly 200 email address out!Larahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16630629272030282584noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27229861.post-58188529276874105392007-10-24T18:56:00.000-05:002007-10-24T19:13:42.418-05:00A new podcast some of you might be interested inFrock Flicks is a new podcast dedicated to costume movies, and the second episode was on the new "Elizabeth: The Golden Age" movie. I finally hit on something that worked (even though there is no obvious reason for WHY it worked), so now the podcast is up. <sigh> The one time I actually managed to get everything together a week early, it doesn't publish...Larahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16630629272030282584noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27229861.post-88275214876828083492007-09-23T20:32:00.000-05:002007-09-25T11:57:58.474-05:00TudorCast #16 - September 2007Featured Website: ElizabethI.org

Inns of Court websites: Gray's Inn, Lincoln's Inn, Inner Temple and Middle Temple

Survey and "The Tudors" Give-away

Music from Magnatune.com

La Primavera, The Dufay Collective (album "Cancionero") and Jacob Heringman (album "Blame Not My Lute")

Intro - "Greensleeves" by La Primavera on "English Renaissance Music"
After news - Excerpt from "Fantasia" by Dufay Collective on "Cancionero"
After "This Month" - "Baloo" by Jacob Heringman.
After glossary - "Ungaresca" by La Primavera
After text - "Bella Gioiosa" by Jacob Heringman
After closing - "Que faray ie mal fortune" by Dufay Collective on "Cancionero"

I know I said I'd link to a picture of the letter that I read in the texts section, but I can't find my scan of it, so I'll add it in another post. I'll have internet access, but I don't think I'll have a lot of time to deal with non-work stuff!Larahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16630629272030282584noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27229861.post-79911913702618034272007-07-10T15:56:00.000-05:002007-07-10T15:57:06.967-05:00Sorry for the interruptionMy apologies to anyone who came looking for the website over the past 18 or so hours. I goofed on my domain renewal (I thought it was renewed through 2008, but obviously not!), but all should be sorted out now. And it's renewed through 2010, so if this little episode is repeated, at least it won't be for another three years.

The funny (and sad) thing is that I was first clued on to the fact that something was wrong when I checked my email this morning and I only had 5 spam emails in my tudorhistory folder (I usually get between 30 and 50 overnight).Larahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16630629272030282584noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27229861.post-17158553540796250732007-07-01T17:02:00.000-05:002007-07-29T17:16:34.514-05:00TudorCast #13 - June 2007Link to glossary page with images of flying buttresses.

This month's featured website: http://www.thousandeggs.com/

"Martin Said To His Man"

Martin said to his man, fie, man, fie
Martin said to his man, who's the fool, now
Martin said to his man, Fill thou the cup and I the can
Thou hast well drunken man, who's the fool now

I saw the mouse chase the cat, fie, man, fie
I saw the mouse chase the cat, who's the fool now
I saw the mouse chase the cat, Saw the cheese eat the rat
Thou hast well drunken, man, who's the fool now

I saw the goose ring the hog, fie, man, fie
I saw the goose ring the hog, who's the fool, now
I saw the goose ring the hog, saw the snail bite the dog
Thou hast well drunken, man, who's the fool, now

I saw a maid milk a bull, fie, man, fie
I saw a maid milk a bull, who's the fool now
I saw a maid milk a bull, at every pull a bucket full
Thou hast well drunken, man, who's the fool now

Martin said to his man, fie, man, fie
Martin said to his man, who's the fool, now
Martin said to his man, Fill thou the cup and I the can
Thou hast well drunken man, who's the fool now

Music from Magnatune.com

La Primavera, The Dufay Collective (album "Cancionero" and "L'Estampida") and Jacob Herringman (album "Blame Not My Lute")

Individual tracks:
Intro -
"Greensleeves" by La Primavera on "English Renaissance Music"

Between news and "This Month" -
"Durandarte" by the Dufay Collective on "Concionero"

Between "This Month" and glossary -
"Il Conto d'Orco" by Jacob Herringman on "Blame Not My Lute"

Between glossary and Primary text -
"Propinan de Melyor" by the Dufay Collective on "Concionero"

Text music piece - "Martin Said To His Man" by La Primavera on "English Renaissance Music"

End music - "La Rotta" by the Dufay Collective on "A L'Estampida"

Episode Transcript

Direct mp3 downloadLarahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16630629272030282584noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27229861.post-47315422060633729482007-05-28T15:11:00.000-05:002007-05-28T16:08:01.889-05:00TudorCast #12 - May 2007This month's featured website is FindAGrave.com

Picture of Henry VIII and Wives in the eye of a needle:

Lyrics/poem "When to her lute Corina sings" by Thomas Campion

WHEN to her lute Corinna sings,
Her voice revives the leaden strings,
And doth in highest notes appear,
As any challenged echo clear;
