The whole shop was just like this table. I was amazed, we walked past a few times, it became a point of reference as landmarks along with the shop on the corner with the underwear that looked like it wouldn't keep you very warm through a Scottish winter.

I unpacked a glaze firing this morning, I took no pictures other than this one and promptly packed it all up and sent it away to various places, Gracefield Arts Centre, Gallerytop and the Dartington Cider Press Centre. I got two big chargers out safely, the first in months, one was one of my new clay samples, the other my normal clay with a lot of grog in it, both dried for about three months and very very slowly and fired very very very slowly too. So which part of that was the key to success I don't know but maybe if I do all of the above all the time then the things may start coming through the kiln in one piece again.

Phil McMenemy came to slip his pot today for the McGill Duncan show, which is mentioned in this new edition of Dumfries and Galloway Life magazine. No idea how on earth I will be decorating them yet but watch this space. I think this weekend will be another of weekend working, there is a lot to do though most of the pressure for the year is off now, I just have one big show at the CatStrand to finish work for and then a couple of lovely local fairs and the do with Phil and Amanda and the McGill Duncan show and I think that's about it. I do have a bit of a thing I realise looking back at pictures from other trips to places, about door ways and gates. Lots of images of them crop up in my albums and sketchbooks. I am not aware of them creeping into my work at all, not consciously anyway.

A tile from the Ceramic Museum in Barcelona. I haven't really met John properly before though he lives not too far away and I am very aware of his wonderful work. We got to chatting as you do and discovered he was brought up in his early years about 6 miles from where I was in Bolton and moved from there to the same street as Paul lived on with his family in Sheffield. Small world - though I still wouldn't like to paint it.

I have been busy making even with my visitors but I don't seem to be getting anything finished. It's like that sometimes isn't it, things in every stage except completion. I find it frustrating because I can't see the progress so easily. A lot of the things I'm trying to make at the moment are made from more than one bit too ie lids and two bits joined so it looks like far more 'things' than there actually is.

More Gaudi

A roof at Parc Guell, I love these lids on the buildings, they I think may find themselves as lids on some pots. . .

I love all the work that is going on inside the Sagrada Familia, that is just as interesting to me as the building itself. There is a museum underneath with scale models and his experiments for finding the right angles to position the roof struts in to make them capable of bearing the load. It's fascinating.

Another roof, in Parc Guell again - how does that stay up there exactly? Some of the constructions look almost impossible. The flocks of birds were just settling in the trees there as I watched but by the time I got the camera they had settled themselves comfortably for the night.

22 to minus 3

We woke to a shockingly cold but utterly beautiful sight this morning, a chill minus three outside and thick frost and the low sun. Compared to the days of 22 degrees C that we had last week in Barcelona - yes that was answer number one folks, it was somewhat nippy.

So many pictures as you can imagine. It's hard going from here to a big city, there's something everywhere that is so different to my everyday views that I find it hard not to stand and stare agog all the time, I have to be careful not to get myself thumped sometimes. For certain on our list of things to do were visits to Parc Guell and the Sagrada Familia both Gaudi lovers heaven.

The church is a lot further on than it was ten years ago when I last visited but there is still an unending amount of work to do it seems. I'd be almost sad if they did ever finish it because the whole work in progress is fascinating to see, I love seeing the moulds being made and the highly skilled crafts people at work there swinging from windows or measuring precise and accurate angles on giant blocks of stone. It was very busy, so many people walking around just going snap snap snap with their cameras and not appearing to actually look. I tried to draw things but there's just too much there so many we stood and gawped.

Even the shadow of the unglazed windows on the pillars is great though my pictures do it no justice what so ever.

Ceramics Museum? Of course we went there! Tasty! In a way I thought it was better than the V&A in that each piece had so much more space and you could really look at just one without being distracted too much by it's neighbours. Some of the pots had mirrors placed so you could see their bottoms, always attractive to a potter. There are plenty more pictures here and I'm sure you'll see some Spanish influences in the pots to come too.

La Boqueria, the large fruit and veg and fish and cheese and bread and tastynesses of all variety market in the centre of the city is just colour and shape and smell and noise vibrant. You could spend a whole morning wandering around there.

So it's been back to work properly today, lots still on the list to be done. I'm getting through the orders though. This afternoon though while listening to my BBC Radio 4 dose I heard this great programme, part of a series that I believe runs the whole of the week, "Whatever happened to the teapots?" A whole fifteen minutes about clay and pots, more Radio 4, more! I think you can only listen to it from Britain but I could be wrong there.

Remember

This morning saw me with my Cubs and the Scouts at the Remembrance Day service at the cenotaph in New Galloway. I've been at services in the centre of Bolton and Manchester, both big busy towns and cities with hundreds of people, all the uniformed organisations and hundreds of the general public. I've been a number of times at the service at the memorial on the top of Great Gable in the Lake District, a strange and other worldly experience joining again hundreds of others at the very summit with lines of tiny figures approaching from every direction to stand in silence on the sometimes sunny sometimes wind swept sometimes blizzardy rocks at the top. This year I was in New Galloway on a glorious crisp autumn morning, it's the village where my Cub group is based, a small rural community, a part of the Glenkens. All the services are moving for what they represent but this one here in particular makes me think and realise more than the others. A list is read of the names on the memorial, and from a tiny village like this there are a lot of names, then comes those that are obviously of the same family, some with two or three and one with four members all killed in World War One. One boy aged just 15 killed on a ship in the Dardanelles, I think that one is the one that does it, many of the kids I am with there are 14 and 15 and you can see them all sit up and listen more when his story is told as the vicar said this morning this boy was from a family of artists in the region, who knows what could have been. What a waste.
This poem the Cubs often read during the service

"Will you wear a poppy?" the lady said

And held one forth, but I shook my head.

Then I stopped and watched to see how she’d fare

Her face was old and lined with care.

But beneath the scars the years had made

There remained a smile that refused to fade.

A boy came whistling down the street

Bouncing along on carefree feet.

His smile was full of joy and fun

"Lady’, he said, "May I have one?"

As she pinned it on I heard him say

"Why do we wear a poppy today?"

The lady smiled in her wistful way

And answered, "This is Remembrance Day.

The poppy there is the symbol for

The gallant men who died in our war.

And because they did, you and I are free

That’s why we wear a poppy you see."

"I had a boy about your size

With golden hair and big blue eyes.

He loved to jump and play and shout

Free as a bird he would race about

As years went on he learned and grew

And became a man as you will, too."

"He was fine and strong with a boyish smile

But he seemed with us such a little while.

When war broke out he went away

I still remember his face that day.

When he smiled at me and said ‘Goodbye

I’ll be back soon so please don’t cry.’"

"But the war went on so he had to stay

All I could do was wait and pray.

His letters told of the awful fight

I can still see it in my dreams at night.

With tanks and guns and cruel barbed wire

And mines and bullets, the bombs and fire."

'Til at last the war was won

"And that’s why we wear a poppy, son."

The small boy turned as if to go

Then said, "Thanks lady, I’m glad to know.

That sure did sound like an awful fight

But your son, did he come home all right?"

A tear rolled down each faded cheek

She shook her head but didn’t speak.

I slunk away, head bowed in shame

And if you were with me, you’d have done the same.

For our thanks in giving is oft delayed

Though the freedom was bought and thousands paid.

And so you see, when a poppy is worn

Let us reflect on the burden borne.

By those who gave their very all

When asked to answer their country’s call.

That we at home in peace may live

Then wear a poppy, remember and give.

Author: Don One big parcel off to the Stirling Smith Art Gallery in Stirling and the other pile of boxes off to the National Museum in Edinburgh, both for their Christmas exhibitions. Hopefully they will be swapped in good time for a nice cheques.

I put a new blade in my stanley knife this afternoon while I was packing up the work, oh my how much easier and more pleasant that makes life. The pots are really coming together now, still quite a few more people to work with but it feels like it's happening finally. I had to turn Andy's dish this morning, a bit nerve wracking after all the time he had put in. I don't go through the bottoms of pots very often these days but somehow the pressure was much stronger when it was just my work that I would be spoiling.

I was just about to put on my pumpkin outfit and take a picture for you for Halloween but have been informed that the outfit has been sent away to be stored until next year. So you'll have to wait for that pleasure, the Cubs were most amused at out Halloween party on wednesday last, I dread to think what the really think about their leader, sometimes the looks they give me are priceless.

Busy Day

It feels like it's been an age since I have decorated any pots, only a week in actual fact but somehow seems much longer. Funny that isn't how time sometimes doesn't fit with how it should feel, like the fact that monday just gone made it four years since Paul and me got together, in some respects it seems like a life time ago, far more than four years and in others it's just like yesterday.

So a couple of newly decorated plates, these two inspired by some little slip pots that I saw when I visited Mary Wondrausch the other week.

I spent this morning in the company of Andy Priestman, a potter and painter friend who I know I've mentioned before. He came to decorate a pot for the twelve pots exhibition. Andy is the only other potter involved and I wanted to work with him because I like his pots and he doesn't decorate as such on his own work so I thought it would make for an interesting combination.

He brought with him a mug for me and a lump of clay now how much better a visitor can you get? A mug AND a lump of clay, how lucky am I? It just shows how easy it is to win me over.

I had a mug of Andy's a while ago which I smashed in a quite disastrous day taking out I think it was two mugs and a teapot all in one foul swoop. Anyhow here's my new one which has been enjoyed many times today already.

And here's my wild clay, it is from Luce Bay, to the far west of here, I've made a little pot this afternoon, a small bowl but I haven't cleaned the clay or anything so we shall see what happens. Exciting day!

I also had some visitors in the form of some returning customers bringing with them a friend of theirs who had just finished a pottery course. It turned out that I already know their friend who is a fellow Scottish Potters Association member Bill Runciman who has just finished at Glasgow School of Art doing the distance learning course. It was great to see them and we had some good potting chat with them too.

GMT

Here we are back to good old GMT time which means that it's starting to get dark at something awful like a quarter to 5 in the afternoon. I'm taking a deep breath as we plunge into the winter darkness. Autumn I love, as I have said before, winter I'm not so sure about and as much as I love it as it is now I know that that means that January and February are approaching ever faster and I hate that time of year. So the moral is of course enjoy crispy blowy autumn and think not on the doom and gloom that gathers on the horizon.
I'm home again from the Great Northern Contemporary Craft Fair in Manchester. What a time. I'm shattered -again and sat here huddled under a quilt with a mug of hot blackcurrant and a sniffly nose and dizzy head trying to recover from the too long spent working sillyly hard up to the show and then the stress of actually being at a show and the fact that though you aren't physically doing huge amounts it's still tiring doing the whole being attentive and interesting thing. I find it exhausting being around so many people for so long because I suppose I am so very unused to being around many people at all. All the talking and chatting and catching up is fantastic but it wears me out. Being back in Manchester was weird, I haven't been there properly in ages and I used to spend so much time there. I met so many people that I haven't seen in a while including a good many tutors from MMU which is always good but makes me a bit nervous at the same time. Alex it's always lovely to see you, sorry I picked the time you were there to escape for 10 minutes to get some fresh air. I met up with people I used to work with, with an good old Scouting friend and his family, with my cousin and her partner, lots of people from uni and of course my good friends who I am in touch with more regularly too.
I didn't sell a huge amount I'll be honest though I met lots of very interested people, a number of whom I think will be back so in that respect it did me no harm what so ever. The quality of exhibitor I thought was incredibly high, the number of visitors was incredibly high, sometimes I couldn't get down the aisles for the numbers of people in the place. The organisation was brilliant and the organisers had endless enthusiasm and patience. I got a mention on a another blog from the show, h is for home, click to have a look at some of the other exhibitors at the show. I apologise for once again failing to take any pictures. I have one of the stand and that's it. Rubbish I know, sorry.
So now I'm into recovery mode but needing to get back into making mode too, I'll be back in the workshop properly tomorrow all being well, fingers crossed etc.

Away Again

Tomorrow morning early I'll be off again, this time down to Manchester where I spent a lot of time, both at uni and for a couple of years working in a gallery there after I graduated. The show, the Great Northern Contemporary Craft Fair is taking place at Spinningfields which I believe is the same area as the old YHA shop that I worked in before it was bulldozed, it was a bit rough when I was there, cracks all over the walls, probably from the amount of times we were ram raided, it needed bulldozing. It's a bit odd in a way being there as I haven't actually been there with my pots since I left though I do have pots in the gallery I worked in, the Royal Exchange.

Lisa Hooper spent the morning with me decorating her pot. This is just a taster, I didn't want to give too much away.

Until the next time, have a good weekend and pop into the show if you are in Manchester and say hello.

Visitors - more!

Phil McMenemy my good friend and great photographer cam over this afternoon. He is also involved in this exhibition coming up The Twelve Pots of Christmas at the McGill Duncan Gallery. Twelve pots by me, eleven being decorated by other artists and craftspeople and one by well - me. So Kay came and did hers last week and Phil came to practise today. His attitude was great, sgraffito is by far the easier of my two techniques to control, especially when you have a limited amount of trial time and only one pot to go with. Phil hated art at school having been shouted at because he was colour blind so he said he was quite nervous about this project. Anyway he jumped in enthusiastically and wants to go with the slip trailing and lettering and the whole hog! Completely out of his comfort zone but good on him I say. It'll be a great fat pot when it's done I have no doubt.

I decorated lots of pots this afternoon, lots of pie dishes and mugs and handled soup bowls, I got into a really good flow, so good that it was half seven before I left work after having had an eight 15 start too. This was my first coat on, helmet on, light off shut the door, oops I can't see where the bike is across the yard night. Many more where that came from. I gets so dark out there, I love it but I rode home slowly, takes a few nights to get my head into the working with a narrow beam of light on the road again.
Tomorrow I'll be meeting Lisa Hooper who is a print maker, she's coming pot decorating too. More news on how that goes tomorrow. I've also to fully get my head around the packing up of boxes (banana box shortage in Castle Douglas trauma!!!!!!) and getting Paul's car packed up and generally being ready to go early on thursday morning. We have visitors tomrrow night too so I need to be ultra organised - phew big list for the morning then. Night night.

Fair Frenzy

It's nearly here, the Great Northern Contemporary Craft Fair and the chaos that always precedes a show is ongoing. You'd have thought that I would start to get slightly better at all this but it always seems to be a rush and a last minute panic. You would have laughed today if you had seen me and my dad struggling to get a table top and two none folding trestle legs into the back of my little Polo car. Who was I kidding thinking I'd be able to get them and all my pots and my into my car. Off to beg Paul to borrow his.
I was pondering today some pots that are on my shelves and realising that they have never been on the blog. It made me realise just how much of what I do doesn't come anywhere near getting posted on here. I'm not sure what the unpublished criteria are for pots or parts of pots reaching the dizzy heights of this blog but for whatever reason it is you only ever see a part of the whole. Aren't you glad I don't bore you with any more of my ramblings!

The daleks are back too, this is the second post in my blogging life that mentions daleks, what does that mean? It's not a pot, I know that is unusual but it is instead a glorious bowl of Amanda's. These pictures show you nothing of the subtle colours but I did like the shadows with the light behind the bowl. It was a present for 'helping' her at Origin, shhh don't tell her but I had a great time.

Yesterday the weather was stupendous. We cycled out the back of Clatteringshaws loch and over to Loch Dee. There were many patched of grass and heather that were still in the shade of the trees that had a hearty coating of frost still on them and this was at 2 in the afternoon, it had obviously been a rather chill night up there.

I love piles of logs. Not that I have any idea how or what to tidy for this particular time of year but it made me feel better and it looks better now too. While I was at it I tried my hand at a bit of ceramic restoration on this big plant pot, I think no one would ever guess that the original pot that the tree was in was the blown over by the gales last week and that I had the very next day swapped the pot for another that I had at home - this one - which as I walked back into the workshop job completed promptly blew over and broke!
Today I have had the pleasure of Kay Ribbens hat maker extraordinaire's company at work as she has been decorating a small jug of mine for an upcoming exhibition. I felt cheated.

- The gherkin building feels like it's at the end of every street.

- The bus maps aren't half as confusing as I had first thought.

Many more to come

This morning on my ride to work the grass was white with frost, the sky was clear and blue, my eyes were stinging with the cold and by the time I got to work my fingers were numb even through my gloves. The air just cut straight through my clothing and here we are in mid October there are months to go yet and it'll get worse before it gets better but this morning was fabulous! Crisp, bright, fresh and zingy, my head was clear as a bell by the time I arrived. I love autumn, the leaves are turning and the drive is strewn with freshly dropped shiny velvety conkers begging for me to collect them up. I think I may have been a squirrel in a former life as throughout autumn my pockets are always full of tree fruits, conkers and acorns mainly but beech nuts and spinning jennys too when I can find them.

The exhibition Pots and Baskets is now open at The Barn Gallery at The Bield at Blackruthven near Perth - ours not yours Ang! This is the joint exhibition between the Scottish Potters Association and the Scottish Basket Makers Circle which has been in the planning for months now. I hear it looks great though I wasn't able to get to the opening due to only just being home from London. I'll let you see some pictures as soon as I get them. These are some of mine and Lizzie's pieces.

The clay was bitter cold this morning and the glaze bucket, brrrr you can imagine. I'm finishing pots this week for the upcoming Great Northern Contemporary Craft Fair which will be in Manchester in a couple of weeks time. I'm looking forward to this show, it's the second time it has been held but the first time I have participated. I supply a gallery in Manchester but I have never exhibited at a show there since I moved away which is just eight years ago now. I came to Galloway for twelve months and I'm still here.

A couple more London pictures for you. It had been a long drive from Galloway down to London with Amanda who was exhibiting at Origin. I haven't ever been over that bridge, I probably caused Amanda mortal embarrassment by taking a picture as we were driving along. It is an impressive beast of a bridge though you have to admit.

The morning after the set up and before the opening (which helpers weren't allowed into we discovered when we got there - eeek alone in London with no immediate plans!) we had a late start and a big fat breakfast to set us up for the rest of the day. After that all we needed was sleep.

I don't have any pictures of Amanda's stand but you can see it on her blog. There were a few visitors to the stand that seemed to recognise me but were obviously confused by seeing me with a stand full of glass. I quite enjoyed myself, it's far easier to sing the praises of someone elses work than it is of your own and Amanda's work is so fabulous that I couldn't stop myself.

No surprises that I went back to the V & A museum again. The world ceramics part was closed, what is it with me and visiting places that are closed when I get there? The show in Contemporary Applied Arts was shut too though they were huge Felicity Ayliffe pots that I could see reasonably well from the entrance.

Linda Bloomfield was also exhibiting at Origin and she invited me back for dinner one night. Thanks Linda, I had a lovely time. It was great to see Linda's neat and tidy studio tucked away in her back garden, you'd never know it was there and that there was all that activity going on inside it. Hope you had a good Origin.

Linda had a quince tree in her garden, in fact we ate some in a crumble for dinner. I've never seen quinces before, I don't know what I was expecting, I think I was expecting more of a fig type thing, not a furry hard pear.

Speaking of quince, the following day I had the pleasure of meeting a certain Mary Queen of Slipware Wondrausch. When I met her at Oxford last year she had invited me to come and visit her at home, so as I was in London for a while and she is but a short train ride south I thought I would take her up on the offer. Honestly what a treat! Maybe so much alcohol at such an early time in the day isn't quite my usual habit and then being urged to pick up some very old and very special pots, phew quite intensely nerve wracking. If you have seen the Brickfields book which is about her house you will have a feel of what to expect but it is all that and more when you really see it. Mary met me at the station covered in clay as she had been throwing and unpacking a kiln that morning. I hope I can still be potting at that age, I think she's 86 at the moment. Full of stories and information and tales about pots and potters I have no idea what she thought about me, heaven knows but it was fabulous to spend some time with her as so much of what I do comes in a round about way from her. Jason who I worked my apprenticeship for trained with Mary about 30 or so years ago so it's a bit of a family tree. There was a beautiful little ink and wash sketch on the table in the conservatory where we had lunch, such a simple but lovely drawing. I really must start to spend some more time on drawing and looking I don't do it nearly enough at the moment but I should.

I was too much in awe and too scared to even think of asking to take any photographs but I did spend the journey back to London trying to remember and draw the pots that I had looked at and loved.

Back to this today, a relief from the hectic city life I have been living recently. I have 'to do' lists that have been reproducing while I have been away and a slight panic when I looked at just what I have top make in the next couple of weeks so I was in and making today on a gorgeous autumn day with the sun low in the sky casting fabulous shadows in the workshop.

Friday Feeling

Sunflower! It was a lovely way to spend a drizzly friday afternoon. This morning was the first wet ride to work in about 4 weeks! No doubt there's more to come over the next few months, I suppose I should start to get myself acclimatised to it.

The Autumn exhibition opens tomorrow at the Parkfields Gallery in Ross on Wye. A very lovely part of the country, spent a good few weeks there enjoying Venture Scout camps in years gone by. Those were the days when summer holidays were sunny and hot and never ended, we'd canoe down the rivers being chased by swans on the way, build camp fires and talk all night, tie our Venture leader to the back of a transit van and drive him across the field, learn to drink cider, think I'll stop there. Good place to be though, many happy memories from those camps.

Here are two bowls that Blogger Margaret gave to me when I met her in London. She does do such exquisite decorating, these two have some of her enamels on the wings of the beasties. They're beautiful. Thanks Margaret.

So tomorrow off down south to the big city again. At this rate I will be picking up quite a cockney accent in no time at all. I'll be able to visit the Victoria and Albert Museum again but where else should I go if I have time? Tell me your "must see" things to do in London and I'll see what I can see.

Nope the picture above is not photoshopped, it is indeed a green KitKat. How crazy is that! It was from some of the Japanese teachers and kids that come and stay near here. I have to say from past experience I should have known that the sweets from Japan are not as we would expect them to be here in the UK. Everything has a quite different slant on it.
I will try to blog from London if I get chance, no doubt though we will both be quite worn out by the time we get back to the place we are staying at at the end of the days. I can't wait to see Amanda's new work, I'm really excited! Visit Origin if you have the chance.

Snazzy new pics.

How much better do pots look to me when they are out of my wee studio and in a setting that makes them stand out. It's always a bit of a shock to see them like this but quite refreshingly so. They did all look rather small though in a big photography studio too.

These are all courtesy of Mr Shannon Tofts again. It takes me ages to pluck up the courage to go and do it because of course I'm never so completely happy with pots that I think they are fit to be recorded like this and it's an investment and if they're not the best pots I can make then I don't want to spend that money on them. So I don't get pics done all that often and of course in the mean time many pots that I do love are made and get sold and afterwards I think bugger I should have kept that for a picture.

Anyway I went along to Edinburgh a couple of weeks ago and took lots of pots with me. Shannon has I think a very good eye when it comes to photographing craft, it's what he has become quite renowned for. It's good too to have someone unconnected to the work to look at it as they often see something different to me or have a better idea of how to show it than I would.

It's all go go go at the moment. I've been trying to catch up and get a little ahead of myself this week before I head off. Some of it got done, some of it didn't but isn't that always the way. Monday's list is forming as we speak but some might just be crossed off tomorrow morning. No weekend working proper this week because we are being visited by my mad crazy wonderful friend Debbie who runs a pottery on the beach these days on Tortola in the Caribbean. We haven't seen her for two years so she is visiting to cause chaos throughout south west Scotland for a couple of days. It'll be great.

I managed to get my wide shallow handled dishes that I didn't copy off Blogger Matt - honest Matt, decorated this afternoon. There is I think sometimes some weird potting clay molecule connection sometimes as I think it is amazing how many times you do something only to find that at the same time some other blogging potter is reporting almost the exact same thing. Matt made some handled dishes on tuesday too, I'd seen some at the weekend that spurred me on. I've drawn them numerous times over the last couple of years but never gotten around to actually making them and then there you go, same day we both do them. What's all that about?

Lizzie popped in this afternoon to try her hand at some slip trailing inspired by this Scottish Potters / Scottish Basket Makers collaboration. I think she did just great for her first attempt. Maybe we'll convert her yet. This is her having a trial run on a board. Personally I think it was the expert tuition that did it.

I had made a second slab dish but sadly I managed to collapse that this afternoon, the piece below was salvaged from the wreckage, no idea what I'll do with that but it seemed a shame to waste it.

You can indeed tell that the season has changed. It's long fingered gloves on the bike in the morning time, it's more like three days than one before pots can be slipped time, the making time has just doubled if not more overnight. However autumn is for me the best time of year, the colours, the crispness, the falling leaves, the purply heathery hills, misty mornings, the blackberry pies, the being able to wear woolly chunky jumpers and snuggle up by the fire - yummy scrummy.

Baskets and pots from across the sea.

There's nothing like a bit of pressure is there to set you off making new things. For months and months now there has been in the planning a joint exhibition between the Scottish Potters Association and the Scottish Basket Makers Circle. The handing in date is now about 9 days away so here is a fabulous time to really get into the idea of making pots inspired by baskets and vice versa and yes you guessed it that's exactly what myself and Lizzie are doing. We've had it at the back of our minds for months and now it's suddenly flung itself forward.
I've been making some dishes with basket imprinted handles and Lizzie has been making some clay baskets and we're hoping to do some stuff together too. Will it get finished in time? Watch this space. . .

This is not a basket. It did however arrive today from a Mr Hollis Engley of Hatchville Pottery in the USA. That was a rather lovely surprise Hollis, thank you very much. It's a corker. Does it have some of the Antarctic mud in it? I now have my very own little bag of Antarctic mud to amuse myself with too. I'll save that for the time being and maybe use it when I have a bit more playing time.

Thanks again Hollis, it's a great pot and is sat as all new comers to the house do for a while, on the kitchen table to be looked at and handled while we eat fr a few days.

I've also been using my mold that I have been wanting to use for the last three months but never quite getting around to. It too has been used incorporating the basket impressed clay. I am really pleased with them so far. The decoration threw me a bit, I sort of panicked with the first one. It didn't need much. I'll have a longer think before I do the second one.

So it has been a busy couple of days. I'm trying to get all my orders underway and the Christmas exhibitions work started, there is a surprisingly short amount of time before all that has to be at it's respective galleries too. No rest for the wicked.

To be going on with

Back home again and exhausted. It's been a crazy busy but very enjoyable trip. Annabel and Elissa it was really great to see you both again. Thank you so much for your hospitality it is very much appreciated.
The show went well, it's a small show really on the London scale of things but I really enjoy it precisely because of that fact and the staff at The Geffrye Museum were brilliant.
As I said briefly in the last post I did manage to run to the Victoria and Albert Museum for the opening of their new ceramics gallery. I knew it was happening on friday but really didn't think I'd be able to go until I discovered that the museum is open till 10pm on a friday evening! What on earth else better is there to do of a friday evening in London? So myself and Linda Bloomfield and Blogger Andrew went there to meet my friend Eleanor who now works there.

Linda and me were like excitable school children, when we saw the hoarding outside with the pots on we could hardly cross the road fast enough. It was too much to take in really, my brain felt like it would explode if I tried to look at any more. These three pots above are so much bigger in real life than I thought they would be. Beauties.

A general gallery pic with Eleanor, Linda and Andrew. There are so many pots, a whole section of world ceramics, like a time line I think it was though I may be muddled now about that. Lots of British things, lots of slipware, oh just lots of lovely lovely things, and bits of things and a set up of Lucie Rie's studio and saggars and pully outy drawers with things in and boards to turn over and films to watch and pots, and more pots and did I mention the pots?

I just wander around London agog most of the time, it's so busy and chaotic looking to me and there is stuff happening all over the place. I liked these bollards, we walked past these every day on the way to the show. More London pictures to come and I might just get them all up before I go away again a week saturday to London again!

The potter next to me at Ceramics in the City was Chito Kuroda who took this video of the show.
