Mandevilla finally blooming

It took a while but my mandevilla vine is starting to bloom. The blooms can be either red or pink depending on the temperature.

The black and blue salvia and nasturiums are doing great on my deck this year.

This huge pumpkin plant is thriving as well. I think it may take over the whole yard.

Hummingbirds love Lantana

Looks like my idea of putting Lantana in my window boxes are working. I've seen several hummingbirds using the Lantana this summer:)

Bee Balm Time

July always reminds me of bee balm. I love this plant here in Wisconsin and so do the hummingbirds. This is the Jacob Cline variety and spreads well and is easy to split and transplant.

Cedar Waxwing

Here is a bird we don't see around here very much. My husband spotted this cedar waxwing up in a pine tree last night. I love it's cool super hero like mask.

Hike on the Scuppernong trail

It was a beautiful day here, so we decided to take a hike on the Scuppernong trail in the Kettle Moraine forest. Don't you love the name? I'm surprised the mosquitos didn't show up in the photos, as they were everywhere. Still a pretty hike though.

Red Hot Poker

My red hot poker plants(Kniphofia) have just started blooming. They are not in view from the house, so I don't know if the hummingbirds are using them. They are such an easy plant to grow. I only wish they would bloom a bit longer.

I have more hummingbirds here this time of year than usual. They are still not using the flowers as much as the feeders, but the bee balm is just starting to open and will tempt them. Here are a couple shots from tonight.

Lots of Maltese Cross, primrose, lilies and daisies are in bloom this week. The garden is starting to become more colorful:)

Lantana

My Lantana is really starting to bloom now. I have them planted in some hanging baskets and window boxes. The hummers seem to enjoy them and so do I. They are also fairly forgiving if you don't water them every day.

A Good Year For Strawberries

My strawberry crop is doing great this year. I picked these yesterday. They must have liked all the strange weather Wisconsin has had this year.

Chikadee and a Dragonfly

I was out catching up on some weeding today when I noticed this chikadee hanging out and drinking out of my ant moat. There were some hummers flying around, but they were to quick for me, so I had to settle on taking a dragonfly picture instead.

Daisies and Lilies

Flood pictures

The first couple pictures are of the corn field at the end of my street. Note the ducks and sandpiper. The last three are of the flooding in downtown Pewaukee. I can't imagine how bad it was last week when we were away.

Many of my plants are not happy with all of the rain we have had, but several are still doing well. My honeysuckle looks great. The roses are not doing so well, but still blooming. The weeds have of course loved all this rain.

Back from the beach to flooded Wisconsin

We enjoyed another great vacation at the Outerbanks of North Carolina. Unfortunately, while we were having great beach weather there, it was flooding back here in Wisconsin. We returned to a nice soggy basement and all types of flooding in our area.

First Day Of June Blooms

Things are starting to bloom around here. My Navajo Greggi Salvia is starting to look better now that it is warming up. I could only find it in pink this year.

Ibought two Lady in Red Salvias that were alredy blooming. The ones I started inside won't bloom for a couple of weeks yet. My honeysuckles are just about to open as well. Hopefully they will draw in some more hummingbirds.
