Busy....
..with some Christmas card orders;
..making special handmade Christmas gifts for friends
..preparing for Grace's 3rd birthday party
..finding and visiting and finalizing a pre-school for Grace (yes, we are starting her soon)
..training Grace to sleep early and wake up early (in preparation for pre-school)
..following and watching a TVB drama (grin...grin..)

Phew...the list don't look too long but all are time consuming tasks.....

By the way, I'm also planning on making 2 mini albums, one for Grace's 3rd birthday, the other for Grace's first time at school kinda journal.

I was again at my parents place for the past 3 days. Well, this time is just for the fun of it. Grace got all crazy playing with her grandparents. Grandpa bought a toy truck (the kind that transport new vehicles) which also include 2 buses and 2 cars. (just in case you wondering, Grace loves cars....don't ask me why). Well, she was playing all sorts of things with this toy truck, car dealers, race car and truck, towing service.

Talk about the towing service, dad has an old Walkman, which was confiscated from his naughty students many years back. And so Grace took the Walkman, extended the aerial and viola....the crane or whatever that is used to tow the cars and truck. Her tow service number is "386"...she gave the number herself. And so, dad will pretend that there's an accident, then called the number "386" and she will answer and get to work.

Now, after playing this for some time, she shifted to other things, when grandma came and "dialled" the number "386". Note that she is now busy with other things, and this is how she turned down her grandma.
Grandma: "386", "386" there's an accident here. I need towing service now.
Grace: Err....she's now around.

Then during dinner, grandma tried again.
Grandma: "386", "386" there's an accident here. I need towing service now.
Grace: I no longer provide the service. I already sold off the towing thing.

We all had a good laugh.

G is for Grace

It had been almost 3 years since Grace joined us, my little girl will be celebrating her birthday on 26th of this month. Looking back these 3 years and the few years before I was pregnant, I can't help but proclaim that God's grace was, is and will be showering upon us.

Here I scrap on the word Grace. It's a challenge over at Scrapping out LOUD, using over sized embellishment and/or alphas. At the same time, I'm using Twisted Sketch #021 with the twist of "Alpha".

Many things happen on this layout.
1. I die-cut the flower border from Cosmo cricket early bird collection by using a die-cut machine called, my hand and craft knife.

2. If you see the sketch above, I replaced the photo on the top left corner with my over sized "g", running over to the lower row. I switch the photo placement a little to suit the flow.

3. I inked the edges of my journalling block and photo with Distress Crackle ink.

4. For the alpha, I'm using paint dabbers; and then heat it to create the raised "bubble"

Journalling:
Remember when...
...I was asking and begging God for a child, tears and frustration was always present. How little faith I have back then. God has His timing for everything and it was about 2 years of waiting for you to come into our lives. Numerous obstacles and tears along the way but was never lack of God's grace. He gave me comfort and taught me through 2 passage of scriptures; Psalms 23 and 1 Thessalonians 5: 16-18.
"Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God;s will for you in Christ Jesus" 1 Thessalonians 5: 16-18.
It was by:
-- God's grace that taught me to be patient and wait upon the Lord.
-- God's grace that gave me the surprise when I saw the positive test.
-- God's grace that help you grow big and strong in my tummy.
-- God's grace that gave me a comfortable pregnancy.
-- God's grace that gave me a safe delivery.
-- God's grace that brings you to us.
And it was to remember God's grace that we named you Grace!

New Hair Cut...

Not mine...but Grace's and in fact it has been almost a month.

Shorter hair = tidy. This is the principle that we hold, well, only applicable to kiddos. Thus when Grace's hair grow so long that it often get into her eyes, I "forced" her into cutting her hair. She's especially fear of cutting the front hair, other than that she's ok. She even said, "Mommy, cut shorter, so that I can become a boy!" LOL.

Anyway, here a photo taken on the very day she had her hair cut by her, oh so talented, mommy. (Ahem..) I've used sketch #43 from 52 Sketches 52 Weeks.

...and here's Grace giving it a try and practicing.

Just for the fun of the play, Grace will take the pooh bear below, put it under her clothes (thus having a "big" tummy) and come to me saying, "Doctor, doctor, I'm going to have a baby! Help me!" Then the "labor" process took place (either a normal delivery or C-section)....yes we told her roughly how that took place, even told her the story of the umbilical cord (cause she asked what's the use of belly button). Anyway, back to the play. Then she will care for the baby that she "gave birth" to. Sometimes, the baby is put into an incubator.

Ok, now to the relationship side. I asked her whom am I to the baby and she said "Po Po" (grandma), what will the baby call Grace's daddy, "Gong Gong" (grandpa) and what about "Ma Ma" (in Cantonese Grandma), she answered "Cho Cho" (great grandma). Wow!

I guess this is the best time to scrap those photos of Grace enjoying her crepe lunch. After all, it was the same crepe (without the filling) trigger Grace to start eating again.

So, I used a Sketchy Thursdays sketch and made this "yummy" layout. I wanted to have a misty effect on the background but I do not have another glimmer mist in my stash (may cause a hole in the pocket if I start collecting these), nor do I have any re-inkers. Thus, I rub the distress ink (Mustard Seed and Fired Brick) to my non-stick craft sheet, sprayed it with water, mess up the whole area by "folding" (just a little) the craft sheet to make big coloured puddle. Then using a syringe to collect the puddle of liquid, pumping it into the mini mister, then sprayed it on my white cardstock. Love the final result.

Eat, eat, eat....

Well....thank God that Grace is beginning to accept food now, except that she's mostly vegetarian now.....

On Saturday night, she had McDonald's for dinner and ate half of the chicken burger I bought her. She was extremely happy to be able to eat......

Then on Sunday, she almost finished off the remaining burger and at night she was eating rice.....

Well today, I made homemade pasta for her and she love it. And for dinner, she could eat rice. I'm relief now.....

One thing that touched me was when she say this....
"Daddy, please pray to God for me. Ask God to heal me and protect me."

Grace is refusing to eat...

for 4 days now....

Sigh....I just don't know what is wrong with her!!!! On Wednesday, all of a sudden, she refuses to eat anything solid, all she wants were milk, "nen nen", water (either plain or sweeten). The day before, she was still ok with eating. I was in terribly bad mood on Wednesday, as I was worried for the reason why she'd stop eating. I, of course, scolded her, which I very much regretted after that, but I just can't help it, the fear that she might not get enough food and the anger that she wasted all my effort in getting the food cooked.

Well, she claimed that she had a sore throat and often gag when she put some solid food into her mouth, then either drinking water to help herself swallow or spit it out. I brought her to the doctor and the doctor said that there's slight redness in her throat. Ok, now all we thought was, right sore throat, that's why.

So on Thursday, I cooked chicken porridge (fit for very young babies) for her. During lunch she, at least, tried to eat about 10 spoonful but during dinner, she just refused to eat at all. Also in the evening, I offered her some ice-cream, which she initially refused, in tears, to eat, but after some persuasion, she finished it. But still no luck on other solid, even her all time favourite, Vitamin C.

Then on Friday, for fear that her sore throat might had worsen, I took her to the specialist. The doctor checked and there's no problem at all. Even the throat is ok. Doctor gave her some syrup to boost her appetite and suggested that if her condition never improve in 1 week, he'll do a urine test. After some thought, I remember her telling me some lower abdomen pain and so I insisted on a urine test. And the result, no urine infection or what-so-ever.

So, what could be the reason?!?!? No fever, no flu, no cough and extremely active at all times except for meal times! She looks hungry, wanted to eat, but just couldn't get it down her throat.

Today, she seems to be eating a little of crepe that I made and some biscuits with coffee (and yes....coffee, the black type). I've no choice but to let her, as long as she'd got something into her stomach.

All readers out there, do you ever encounter such situation before? What can I do next? I'm anxious and worried.

the funniest things....

the most unexpected......

One:
Was staying over at my parents last Tuesday and were sharing bedroom with my younger sister, whom Grace call her "Ah Yi" (means aunt). After I breastfeed Grace, she wanted to share her bed with her Ah Yi. And here's the little conversation:
Grace: Mummy, I want to sleep with Ah Yi.
Mummy: But then later at night you might want to drink "nen nen".
Grace: I'm big girl now. I don't need "nen nen".
Mummy: Ok....then talking to my sister, "Ah Yi" please come share the bed with Grace.
So, the Ah Yi shifted from her bed to Grace's bed. And I went downstairs to take my medicine. When I returned, here's what my little girl got to say.
Grace: Mummy, I want to sleep with you.
Mummy: I thought you wanted to sleep with Ah Yi.
Grace: No lah, I want to sleep with you.
Mummy: Then you ask Ah Yi to go back to her bed lor.
Grace: Ah Yi, please go back to your bed.
Ah Yi shifted back to her own bed.
Grace: Mummy, why Ah Yi always shift places?
Mummy and Ah Yi: ?!?!? Burst into laughter....

Two:
When I was about to get downstairs to take my medicine..
Mummy: Grace, time to sleep, no more talking.
Grace: Ok mummy.
While I was away.....
Grace: (started to move her arms and legs while lying down, then started to disturb her Ah Yi)...obviously she's trying to make her Ah Yi the one to start the talking. Unfortunately, her Ah Yi says nothing. Then she heard the dog barks. And at this moment, her talkative self took over.
Grace: Ah Yi, why the dog keep on barking.
Ah Yi: Grandma is feeding the dog.
Grace: Why Grandma feed the dog.
Ah Yi: Cause she's (the dog) hungry.
Grace: What do the dog eat.
Ah Yi: Dog food.
Grace: Dog food? Where do you buy that?
Ah Yi: Eer.....supermarket.
See.....that little Grace is so super talkative. She can asked a thousand questions on almost anything, even dog food!

Three:
On the next day, Grace insisted that her grandma give her a bath. After the bath, while my mom was drying her and putting on her clothes....
Grace: You're also a mummy, hor.
Grandma: Yes...that's right.
Grace: You're my mummy's mummy hor.
Grandma: Yes.
Grace: My mummy calls you "Ah Ma" hor.
Grandma: Yes.
Grace: Can I call you "Ah Ma" too?

Four:
After Grace took her bath, I took mine. While I was taking my bath, Grace wanted to go downstairs.
Grace: Po Po (grandma), I want to go downstairs and play.
Grandma: But mummy is taking her bath. We should wait for her then go downstairs together.
Grace: Don't need to wait for her. She will know how to get downstairs herself.

Five:
There's a day when I wanted to bring Grace out to the bookstores. Grace when to say goodbye to her "ma ma" (grandma, my MIL).
Grace: "Ma ma", I want to go to Borders. Bye bye.
Grandma: Bye...be careful. Hold on to your mummy's hand.
Grace: Ok. (and ran to me) Mummy, "ma ma" says I need to hold on to your hands. I need to take care of you.
Mummy: LOL

Guest Twisted Sister at Twisted Sketches

If you follow my blog for some time now, you would have read that I was selected as one of the winner for Twisted Sketch #001 over at Twisted Sketches. Well, that won me a Guest Twisted Sister slot over at the blog and this week, Twisted Sketch #019 is what I was asked to have a go at. The twist this week is INK.

Here's my take. It's just a simple layout to show how much my little daughter like to imitate or being the "same" as me.

In my layout, I've used the Tim Holtz Distress Ink (my favourite) in a few different ways and love how each one turn out to be.

For this piece, I started with covering the white cardstock with Mustard Seed Distress Ink, then I stamped the images with VersaMark ink and then embossed it with clear embossing powder. After which, using the ink blending tool, apply Worn Lipstick Distress Ink over the entire piece. The both colours blend in an resulted in kind of like an orange-y colour while the embossed area shows that yellow colour which is applied earlier. Neat.

On the next piece, I created a faux watercolour background. First, I stamped the images with VersaMark ink then embossed it with pearl embossing powder. Then pressing the cardstock to a puddle of Mustard Seed distress ink, Fired Brick distress ink and spritz of water. The embossed area, resist the colours.

For the title, I just rub the ink pad of Broken Chine distress ink directly on Tim Holtz Grungeboard alphabets.

This is just a simple applying of Broken Chine distress ink with the ink blending tool to the journalling tag. I've also inked the edge of the Basic Grey porcelain patterned paper. Both the butterflies were stamped with Broken China distress ink and Faded Jeans distress ink respectively.

Yet another bake and play session

Today I had another bake and play session with little Grace, though I was not feeling very well. This time was to make a batch of "little doggies". The recipe is pretty simple while the shaping and making the little doggies was extremely fun.

Grace had fun designing her own little doggies. I was amazed with her creativity.

However, as I was not feeling well (upset tummy due to food poisoning), I burnt a majority of the cookies. Sigh....

Peanut Butter Cookies...anyone?

This was rather a play time for Grace, than a proper baking session.

Grace saw some kids making cookies with their hands from an episode of Hi-5 which she was watching today and told me she wants to make cookies too. And so I granted her, her wish.

I was busy preparing the ingredients for 1/2 a recipe of Simple Sugar Cookies and when I was about to start, I notice that it needs to be chilled for at least 1 hour. Bump! For sure Grace can't wait that long. And so I changed the next thing available. Peanut Butter Cookies as I need something which we can play and shape with the dough.

And so I did the mental division quickly and have everything set. And so the fun begins. No photos of the process....too overwhelmed with the mixing and beating and yelling....(err....just to warn Grace not to touch this and that)

Grace enjoyed the shaping part....and I let her take full charge and experiment with what ever shape she wants....I have a whole bunch of cookies cutter for her to try on.....and here's the cookies. Check out the "fat" bunny!

Lollipop

I'm getting a little frustrated with the slow Internet connection..patience...patience. But some sites are totally not accessible. Sigh....

Well, today I brought Grace to the mall for our weekly bookstore visit. And yes, she loves it and I love it too. She gets to read (I mean browse) through a whole lot of books and gets to hear stories (ahem...the story teller is her mummy). For me, I get to browse through 1 or 2 card making/ scrapbook magazine. I do subscribe to one magazine, but I needed more inspiration and I couldn't possibly subscribe all.

Anyway, today the little one decided to have lunch at the mall, and guess what she choose. Hot-and-roll! It's a kind of wrap with stuffing. So, we sat at the stall (and yes it's just a small little station) and finished our lunch. Then, went to buy some groceries. By the time we finished our lunch, this little one was asking me to carry her. Her reason being, "I'm too tired to walk", when she just finished her lunch...

While I carried her and walked towards the supermarket, she requested for a lollipop. So I told her, "If you want lollipop, then you come down and walk on your own". The next thing I hear, "Mummy, I want to walk on my own". Great....then while we were just starting our shopping, she wanted to wee wee. Like I said, I need to rush to the washroom. When we walk and then run towards the washroom, this little girl added a little tension by saying, "Quick, quick...I can't hold it for any longer!" Oh.....crab. I told her, "then let me carry you and then run, faster". And she replied, "No.....afterwards I don't get to buy the lollipop". LOL!

Celebrate Challenge #19 @ Scrappin Kids

This layout is for entry into Scrappin Kids Celebrate Challenge #19. The requirements are to scrap about our lil ones birthday celebration, to include at least 4 photos, one of which needs to be black and white.

As Grace will not be celebrating her 3rd birthday for another 2 months, and I've already scrapped her 2nd birthday photos, I decided to scrap about her excitement whenever there's birthday celebration in our family. Grace loves birthday celebration, especially the candle blowing and cake cutting session. Thus, whenever there's celebration, you could only find her in 1 place.......right next to the birthday boy/ girl in front of the cake!

Here's my layout, "Your Many Birthdays" with journaling saying: "Whenever there is a birthday celebration in the family, you will always steal, no....I should say rob the "spotlight" away from the birthday person. Funny thing is, You always win!"

I decided to make the photo of her own birthday black and white to differentiate between her own celebration and those "stolen" celebration. For this photo, I've used the Soft Focus function to blur out the surrounding and bring focus to her cutting the cake.

A mini album to share

As promised, here's the mini album that I made for my friend, Siew Kean, whom is having a baby boy real soon.

For this mini album, instead of making it an album for baby's first times, I'm making it a little flexible for the parents. The mini album is meant for the baby's photos for each month, with lots and lots of space for the parents to put in journaling, be it on their feeling or the baby's milestone. At the end of the album, I've also inserted a mini accordion album for storing those extra photos.

I really hope Siew Kean and Alex will like the mini album.

And I hope it will be an eye candy for you all.

Time to get crafty....

It's been a while since I blog on my crafts. Had been busy with life and had been sick for the past few weeks. Started to have occasional cough during the last week of August when Grace fell sick. Grace had recovered, but not the poor mummy. Kept on coughing until last week, did not recover, but flu came along. Seen the doctor twice, now still taking medicine, the cough had reduced, noted that it had just reduced not recovered.

Due to the medicine, I was drowsy most of the time, thus no staying up late during the night. I just couldn't take it. As such, I found myself making crafts while Grace is having her afternoon nap, which is the most 2 hours. Had been busy with a mini album for a friend's baby for the past few days. Will be sharing the photos later, when I have the strength to upload the photos.

For now, I will just share a Thank You card which I made today (and I mean Friday). This card is requested by my church Young Adult fellowship.

Diaper-less when we're out!

Yes...I'm gonna blog on toilet training again! Please just bear with me on this, I just need to document down Grace's progress.

In June I last blogged on Grace's progress in terms of toilet training, mentioned that she's almost 95% trained and also mentioned that in the next month (that is July) I will let her go without diaper when we're out. Well, I dare not. It was because, there were times (when we're at home) Grace's forget to tell us or only inform at the very last minute. That's for both the wee wee and pooh part. So, I guess it was the pride that made me backed off. Just couldn't face it if she make a puddle in public.

However, recently (very much influenced from the recent children camp that she attended**) the little one decided that it is time for her to go diaper-less. And so, she insisted (to the extend of crying and screaming) that she do not wear a diaper when we're out. She will say that she'd already grown up, no need diaper. And so, the parents had no choice but to take up the challenge (with a cloth ready in the handbag...just in case).

It had been almost a week and it goes well, even the long hours at church. However, this decision had made the mummy sprint to the nearest toilet whenever she says she wants to wee wee.

So, watch out, the next time you see somebody running towards the toilet at Queensbay Mall, it might be me! Grin.....

Crepe for lunch

I'm tired of cooking the same old "rice+dishes" for Grace's lunch. Everyday, there's 1 soup, 1 vegie and 1 egg/meat (pork or chicken)/fish. Although we have different dishes everyday (but repeat in the other week), I've grown tired to preparing the same thing day in day out.

Today I woke up thinking of making something different. To be frank, I'm not very adventurous/ creative when it comes to cooking. I'm better in scrapbooking..... anyway, I look up my book of "Cooking with kids" in search of something special. Now, there's one more problem that I have. My household is also very conservative when it comes to cooking, so you could expect minimum "special" ingredients available in my kitchen. And, don't know how to find substitute.

Now what? I flipped through the pages and I saw this recipe for Basic Crepe. Now this is simple and I have all the ingredients. But, a growing toddler can't be having only crepe for lunch! So I flipped the pages again, till a recipe for some Fajitas came to sight. Then I was inspired and I knew Grace will love these.

And so I made the crepes and roasted some pork and chicken meat. Those meat are marinated first with soy sauce, garlic oil and pepper.

Grace enjoyed making a mess while I was preparing the crepes and later enjoyed making the wraps. And most of all, we had a balanced and tasty lunch. I will leave you with some photos.

After lunch, Grace flipped through the same book and said, "Let's find something to make for daddy."

Did I ever mention that Grace is very timid? As naughty as she is, as fierce (well, sometimes) as she is, she's really a timid girl. She's afraid of animals, especially those with loud noise, she's afraid of dark, she's afraid of big ugly fish, she's afraid to take a ride on the kiddo ride which will move and sway. There's a whole lot of things she's afraid of. Well, this trip to Genting Highlands had removed one of her fear but imposed another fear for the parents. Err...I'm exaggerating when I said fear for the parents, it's merely just headaches for the parents.

What's the fear that's removed? It's there fear of taking kiddo rides! One would ask, how?

It started of with the ride on South East Asia fastest and longest cable car (Genting Skyway). She was initially stunned and shocked as I did not pre-tuned her for the ride. She refuses to sit on her own but asked to be carried. After sometime, the fear level dropped and when we were on our way down, she was sitting on her own and chatting all the way.

Next, we had a very long walk and wait to check into our hotel room. By then, Grace had already had a preview of the outdoor theme park and very eager to get into action. But we want her to take a nap. So she took a very short nap. Extremely eager to get into action. Spent RM88 for 2 adult entry to the Outdoor Theme Park and we're all set to let our little princess try out the rides. It was very misty that evening.

We took the first Merry-Go-Round ride and Grace was not so keen with the ride. You could see in her facial expression.

Then she started warming up for the next few more exciting rides. Photos say it all.

Err...oh ok...it seems that the parents are more excited in these photos.

After those rides, we came to one that really took Grace's breath away. The antique car. These are cars on a track, with steering wheels and a paddle (well kind of) for us to step on. We could control the speed but not the direction in this one. Grace totally loves it! We took 5 or was it 6 rides. And here's the little driver.

Then daddy has his turn in Archery.

After that, we walked to the Children Rides area, where kids ride on their own. Initially Grace refuses to ride on her own and told us she doesn't want to ride. So we walked away, but later she said she wanted not 1 but 2 rides. Guess she must have worked away her fear.

After dinner, Grace found the ride that she love most. The kiddo car ride. It is meant for kids below the height of 110cm. And she had 4 rides that night and many more (completing the whole array of cars) the next morning.

And since then, every time we see a kiddo ride, she will want to take a ride, not while it is not moving like last time, but requested us to put in money so that the ride could move! Now, that's one headache to us!

Hello.....still remember me?

It has been a week since I last blogged! Wow, that's so long ago. I went on a 5-day rest and relax to Genting Highlands and then head on to Kuala Lumpur with hubby and Grace. We started off with Genting Highlands on Saturday and on Sunday we head down to Kuala Lumpur, sent off Moh Herng and Phaik Sim and my mother-in-law to Taiwan on Wednesday and head back home that directly after that.

Have been home for two days, but still catching up with things at home. Laundry, housekeeping and cooking meals.

Other things to catch up with will be blogging and of course crafting. Here's a few of the things which I'm suppose to have my hands on (err...this serve as my to-do-list)

just invested in Cropper Hopper vertical paper storage. I need to organize my papers and store them nicely. Previous storing system was ok, but was too dangerous. There was once, DH open up the cupboard door and the whole bag and A3 clear folder (where I store my papers) came tumbling down. Luckily Grace was not somewhere near.
to start and complete a Baby mini album, a gift to my friend whom is giving birth to her first child soon (this I must hurry, her estimated due date is first week of October, and we all know that there's possibility of early arrival of up to 2 weeks!)
start making handmade Christmas gifts
start making mini invitation cards for Grace's upcoming 3rd birthday
make 2 cards for my sister, which she ordered from me about 1 month ago (luckily she's not needing it until October and November)
make a wedding card for hubby's friend or rather my mother-in-law's godson
start looking around for suitable pre-school for Grace, planning to send her beginning of next year
had just submitted application for a DT post at 52 sketches 52 weeks

I guess that's one really long list, which will keep me busy for the next 1 month or so.
