Winter Reading Program for Teens!

Don't forget to sign up for the Winter Reading Program at your local library branch starting January 2nd. You'll receive a pen for signing up and you only need to read 3 books! If you're reading for school don't forget that those books count toward your 3! Those who complete the program will receive a journal with a pouch connected to it, what a great place to store your ipod for listening while you write!!

I'll be a black cat this year. I chose it becasue it's easy; I just have to wear all black and I only had to buy the ears and the tail.

After-Hours Halloween Party!

Jarrettsville is hosting an after-hours Halloween Party for middle and highschool students on Friday October 27th 5:00-8:00. Celebrate Halloween with music, candy, games and scary stories. Enjoy having the building to yourself! Costumes are optional although there will be prizes for best costumes. Come into or call the Jarrettsville branch to sign up (410-692-7887). Cats or Dogs

Many of us like cats and dogs but it seems that most of us are either "cat-people" or "dog-people." Which species do you prefer and why? What's your favorite breed? My vote is for dogs and my favorite breed is the sheltie. The're gentle, playful and intelligent.

Went to Comic-Con

On Saturday I went to the Baltimore comic-con for the first time. It was really interesting and there were all kinds of illustrators and writers there and some were drawing right at their desks. Some people were even looking for new writing talent! There were all kinds of things to buy like T-shirts, toys, glasses and comics. Did anyone else go?

Places Travelled

Let's try to figure out who has travelled the farthest from MD or been to the most exotic place. The most exotic place I've been to is Iceland. They have huge natural hot springs and moss covers much of the volcanic rock. The farthest I've been is Hawaii.

Kingdom Hearts Video Game

End of Summer

It's the end of summer. The most fun thing I did was visit the beach and go parasailing. Instead of being scary, it was fun and relaxing. When we looked down we could see sting rays in the ocean. What are some other fun or exciting things people did over the summer?

Favorite Books

One of my favorite books is, The Earth, My Butt, and Other Big, Round Things by Carolyn Mackler. It's about 15-year-old Virginia who is overweight and feels she doesn't fit in with her slender, brilliant, and perfect family. Her best friend just moved away and she has to deal with high school alone. Then Virginia discovers something about her older brother and realizes that her family isn't as perfect as she thought.

Baltimore Comic-Con

MySpace might be blocked

The House of Representatives passed the Deleting Online Predators Act (DOPA) which requires that all public schools and libraries that receive e-rate funding need to prohibit minors from using MySpace and similar sites. This still needs to be passed by the Senate to become a law.
