I think we have similar tastes here, Octopus. I'm down with J Dilla (you know he just died, right?), The Roots, Pharcyde and Boards of Canada. I've had Petestrumentals recommended to me before - will check out the other stuff, too. You, my friend, should check out the albums I have listed for Quantic, Murcof, Bioshere and Amon Tobin.

Ghostface Killah (esp. his most recent “Fishscales”, with production from J. Dilla, Pete Rock, and MF DOOM)

MIA (sort of random here, but her beats are partially/largely inspired by American hip hop)

Boards of Canada (we are drifting completely away from hip hop here, but there’s something about this electronica group that bears a strong affinity with the vibe you get off of a mellow DJ Shadow/Tribe Called Quest/Digable Planets track. Check out “Music Has the Right to Children” or “Geogaddi”)
