The link discusses several avenues for alumni to get plugged-in to Hawk Athletics. First, for the first time in school history a Hawk Athletic Association and Hawk Hall of Fame have been formed to support and promote the dedication of thousands of past Hawk student-athletes and coaches. These two endeavors are designed to be a building block towards a stronger Athletic Department. “Alumni and college athletics go hand and hand”, said Director of Athletics Ed Garrett. “With this new web site we look forward to reconnecting with our alumni and getting them involved in our future. It’s an exciting time to be a Hawk!” The web site also promotes the newly formed Don Palmer Memorial Golf Classic, which will be held February 8th and supports the Hawk Athletic Programs. Beautiful Steele Canyon Golf Course provides the backdrop for this year’s event, as we set to honor a man who gave of himself for college athletics. “Don Palmer was Hawk Athletics”, said Garrett. “I can not think of any better way to honor what he did for this college then to have an event to support Hawk Athletics in his honor.” To sign up a foursome, simply click here! Go Hawks!
SDCC WebMasternoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-26514170.post-55294011056494101742007-11-23T06:46:00.000-08:002007-11-23T06:49:13.067-08:00Jack Alban

"As I read the newspaper this morning, I was startled as I glanced at the obituaries. Steve's brother & family also evacuated from Ramona & are in El Cajon. We trust their 3 homes are safe. Keith & Ginny had to evacuate and last we heard their home was OK. Thanks for your prayer & concern.

From Melinda Miller: Go to www.10news.com for live internet feed of the FIRESTORM.
Like all schools in the area, Christian High is also closed. We are much in prayer for our CHS, SDCC, SMCC family, all over this county that is indeed in a FIRESTORM. Three huge fires are moving east to west across San Diego County. Today is a critical day; winds are strong and tricky. So far most of our immediate El Cajon area is fire-free. I'm at home here in middle of El Cajon. Remember to pray for Christian Camps in remoter areas to be spared. The planes and helicopters are up this morning! Pray for pilots, firefighters, many volunteers manning numerous shelters: 250,000+ people have been evacuated.

From Tina (D'Addario) Schultz: Good morning! I’ve heard from several of you about the fires and thought I’d send everyone an e-mail update about what’s going on in San Diego and how the Baczynski and Heckman clans are faring. First of all, we have received a request from emergency personnel to limit the use of our cell phones – that’s so cell sites are available for emergency use. Of course that doesn’t mean I’m “cell free.” I’m just trying to be a bit more judicious on using it. Secondly, an excellent web page to view what’s happening is www.cbs8.com. This is the local TV station and I refer to it on a regular basis. You can see a map of the fire area and get all the latest word on evacuations. Another web page is www.signonsandiego.com, which is the local newspaper. Now to give you some reference when looking at the maps – you’ll see a clear area right in the middle between the two fires. On the east side is where I work, in the middle is where we live and on the west side is where Sara and Nate live. As you can tell, we are sandwiched between the two fires and in the clear. Sara and Nate are probably the safest of us all (they live in Point Loma between the harbor and the ocean). Logically speaking, our house should be safe as we are surrounded by concrete, but winds and fires don’t usually follow logic. When I left for work this morning, there was a black cloud coming toward our house. I keep repeating “surrounded by concrete and freeways” to myself, and it is a little comfort. When you are reading information about the fires, you may see “Spring Valley” mentioned – that is on the eastern side of Lemon Grove with a freeway splitting it. They are also doing evacuations way in front of the fire. Do I think we’ll be evacuated? No. However, I did tell Stan to pull out the cat carriers, start thinking about what the pack and find a place for us to go in the event we do have to evacuate. I really can’t imagine that would happen, so I’m holding on to that small shred of hope. At work, they have evacuated the areas called “Crest and Harbison Canyon.” These areas were hit hard by the Cedar Fires four years ago. While we don’t see any fire there, we think this is a precautionary evacuation. One of our employees who lives in this area lost her house four years ago. She finally moved back into it this year and she is just a tad bit panicked about the fires. So far, none of our service area is impacted by the fires. We have had some power outages due to the winds but we have generators on all of our pump stations. We also have all of our reservoirs filled so we have plenty of water for the firefights to use. We have opened our Emergency Operations Center on a precautionary basis and we have several meetings a day to make sure we don’t need to get in full gear. We learned a lot from the Cedar Fires that we are using this time around. So as you can see, the Baczynskis and Heckmans should be a-okay. Being at work is a little helpful for me because I do get to know what’s going on beyond what you see in the media. Doesn’t mean I’m not concerned (I don’t think I’ve changed that much from my panic in 1971 which my parents and Julie can attest to!), but it helps to have to focus my worry and concerns on the employees. Speaking of our employees, A LOT of them have had to evacuate, several in the Ramona area. So far all homes are safe, but it will be days before they are allowed back in. The biggest downer so far? Starbucks has closed all of their stores due to so many of their employees having to evacuate! Now that is an emergency if ever I heard one! Leaving me in my time of need! There you have it. Keep San Diego in your thoughts and prayers. They are referring to this as “Armaggedon-like” and it is a pretty fair description. I’ll keep you updated as the week goes on. P.S. to Tina: They have evacuated all of Fallbrook.

From Dr. Pat Ennis: A special thanks to all who prayed for Carella and me in Santa Clarita/Stevenson Ranch. At this point (10:37 a.m.) the winds are calmer and the sun is shining, though it is warm. Our home and TMC have been spared at this point. Thanks again for your concern! My Love to All! Dr. E. J

From Keith and Ginny (Roden) Valles: Just to answer, we are staying at a Red Cross evacuation center at the local high school (ed note: Jamul area). I am catching email just occasionally. Lots of people at church have offered to put us up but the reality is we have two dogs and two cats with us and a view to our hill from here so we are fine. I'm a bit impatient. They say a minumum of 36 more hours before we can have access to our property, but other than that, really everything is okay. We know the house was still there yesterday when we were updated. Today there is a fire storm in the area so who knows. God is good. It will be fine one way or the other.

From Miriam (Douglas) Armbrester: We are praying for you all here in Alabama......Let Ken and Lori McCune know how you are ...if you can. Be safe. Much love in HimSDCC WebMasternoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-26514170.post-20888330477481548872007-10-23T06:49:00.001-07:002007-10-23T06:54:56.041-07:00San Diego County Fires....SDCC canceled classes on Monday, Oct. 22 due to the fires and road closures. At that time the college was in no danger. Here are some stories from Alum in the area:

From Karen (Barrett) Myers: Oh yeah, we're having LOADS of "fun" down here. As you know, I'm just a couple of miles W. of SDCC (CHC), and we are fortunate this time around, at least as I write, not to be dealing with heavy smoke, compared to 2003. The fires seem to be to the South and North of us. But, that is a "moment by moment" thing, as fire has a life of it's own and the canyons in San Diego play a very important role in how/where fires go.

All of Ramona/ Country Estates area, was ordered to evacuate last night, so my dad, Ken Barrett, (ed. note: also a CHC alum) and most of my youngest brother's family came here to my house in El Cajon. It was a long night, as they arrived sometime around mid-night, and by the time we got all situated in my small house, it was close to 2am before I tried to get a few winks on the couch. Kevin stayed at the house in Ramona to keep watch throughout the night. Fortunately, all is well, but again, things can change very quickly when it comes to fires, and some areas are still burning there.

Winds have again picked up, (they have been up and down all day) and evacuations are being ordered for parts of Alpine, Harbinson Canyon and Crest areas, to name a few areas, just silghtly North & East of SDCC, and winds are blowing out of the NE. Last night the winds did not die down as usual, so who knows what will happen as the sun sets this evening. Let you know more later.

From Rita Jean (Pettinelli) Strauss: They have just made evacuation of Crest voluntary – if you remember, Crest is just over the hill from SDCC. Our church is a few blocks from SDCC and last fire several of our members (who live above it) fought with garden hoses to save their houses. It’s definitely in the general area…BTW – our house is still far away, but we are preparing anyway!

From Joe Austin: As you may recall, (my brother) ICR Prof. Dr. Steve Austin lives with his family in Ramona, CA. Due to the fire, all of the residents of Ramona were told to evacuate. I talked with Steve this morning. He told me he brought his family and his 5th wheel trailer down to the ICR building's parking lot in Santee. Steve said a friend had set-up a webcam (somewhere in Ramona), and that it wasn't showing any smoke. As of this evening, Steve's answering machine at his house still works. That is a good sign. All of this to remind us that there are many near and dear to our hearts to pray for through this, their recent trial. God bless.

For those out of state you can see LIVE local Video and coverage at www.10news.comSDCC WebMasternoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-26514170.post-76335740477037905732007-10-11T09:39:00.000-07:002007-10-11T09:40:53.428-07:00Reunion News

SDCC WebMasternoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-26514170.post-51996961945257615462007-09-24T09:17:00.000-07:002007-09-24T09:20:38.568-07:00Greetings from the PresidentThe Fall 2007 letter from President Paul Ague has been posted on the SDCC website. Let us rejoice and be glad in it!”

As I begin my tenure as the new President, I want to convey the excitement, energy, and possibility about the future at San Diego Christian College. Over the past few months, I have met several alumni, and I discovered that our alumni represent some remarkable achievements, ambitions and talents. Although it is early in the journey, I have thoroughly enjoyed my interaction getting to know you thus far.

As we continue to move ahead with the vision and mission of San Diego Christian College, your engagement, participation, and support will be critical. I look forward to meeting many of you through your campus visits, alumni gatherings, or other events that would attract your attendance. I would also like to extend an invitation to you for ideas and gatherings that we might not currently have. I hope that you will feel free to connect with me to introduce yourself and share your story. The same sense of community and family that you experienced as a student here continues, and I desire for you to continue in that community. I want to thank you for your engagement with SDCC and encourage you to continue your support.

For those who have not visited the College recently, I want to urge you early to consider attending homecoming this year. Homecoming happens Friday and Saturday, February 8 and 9, 2008. If you are not able to return to campus, I hope to see you in the coming year at other events. Again, thank you for your support and continued interest in SDCC as we together make an impact in the world for Christ.

Paul AgueSDCC WebMasternoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-26514170.post-18347738343588186332007-06-29T10:12:00.000-07:002007-06-29T10:15:21.162-07:00ANNOUNCEMENT

SDCC WebMasternoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-26514170.post-80146829625276425432007-06-12T12:38:00.000-07:002007-06-12T12:40:07.479-07:00Presidential Candidate Visit
The SDCC Board of Trustees has invited Dr. Paul Ague to visit San Diego Christian College as a candidate for President. What do you remember about Thanksgiving during your years at CHC? Feel free to chime in (and don't worry...you can reply after Thanksgiving as well!)
My wife and kids (okay, a high schooler, a college student, and a furniture maker) will be heading a whole whoppin' three miles to grandma's house for all the traditional fixins'. I will start the day with the Macy's parade, which I have watched pretty faithfully since childhood.
I have two fond memories of Thanksgiving in the dorms. In my freshman year, our P.A. (I think they're called "R.A."s now) invited me and a couple of others for dinner at the home of his family's friend...in Beverly Hills! What a nice thing to happen to a small town Colorado kid!
My other memory comes from my sophomore year. My girlfriend (which I met that fall on campus) asked her parents to invite me to their house for Thanksgiving dinner (since getting back home to Colorado was not practical). On that trip, I met so many people who would play a big part in my life later on. And as for my girlfriend...well, we'll be celebrating our 25th anniversary in May!
So what's on your plate?Timothyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11888483261644583912noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-26514170.post-1161271015978508032006-10-19T08:15:00.000-07:002006-10-19T08:16:55.986-07:00Alum from 1974-1975I am looking for anyone who attended Christian Heritage College in the years 1974-75.
