I made a spinach omelet the other night for dinner and he chowed that down, too. We're going to pay for this good luck with #2, I'm just sure of it.

Ritz--Wormwoman would get my business, too, if we didn't already have a bin. You should post a picture when you get it.

Martha--It'll get better once you move to a decent climate.

Sarah--Oh, dear. I'm not sure what to do about snails, but I'd kick them, too, if they were eating my food. I kick anyone who tries to eat my food.

Jennifer--Hey, thanks! I had nothing to do with it, but I think now I should post pictures of our garden. It really is pretty. I can say that, though, since I contributed nothing to the project.Mary Bethhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06620639746694576459noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25887589.post-80105822259206806222007-05-10T15:04:00.000-05:002007-05-10T15:04:00.000-05:00Wow! I planted some broccoli seeds at the same time, and the plants that made it through the cold snap are now about the size of the first batch of seedlings when they were transplanted.

I heard that deer can be a big problem for farmers in this area who grow purple hull peas. I mentioned this to my best friend who said, "What's the problem? I like purple hull peas, but I like deer, too."Jayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15396278829660551927noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25887589.post-40679581233511958602007-05-10T11:56:00.000-05:002007-05-10T11:56:00.000-05:00I've been growing herbs and sunflowers and yesterd...I've been growing herbs and sunflowers and yesterday discovered a whole posse of snails feasting on my sunflower leaves.

Until this moment I thought snails were cute. I have a big garden plot but am afraid to plant anything unless I put a fence up...as much as I love deer I would probably be irked if they ate all my veggies.

PS I ordered a worm composting bin and it should be arriving today or tomorrow!! (Yes, ultimately too lazy to do it myself--I got a kit that comes with worms and a book from wormwoman.com...I mean how could I resist buying something from the "WormWoman"?!?!)Kat Ehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17103695280697007841noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25887589.post-40313917711751914052007-05-09T18:30:00.000-05:002007-05-09T18:30:00.000-05:00I know how to blanch, it just seemed like a little...I know how to blanch, it just seemed like a little too much responsibility. You know, like, "How many ways can I possibly screw up this meager little task." Especially intimidating when working with someone else's vegetables. Drain and put in freezer bags when cool. Blanching stops the enzymes that makes the veggies grow. They have an "off" taste when frozen without blanching.Momnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25887589.post-22192451768220076462007-05-09T15:29:00.000-05:002007-05-09T15:29:00.000-05:00That looks so good. My mom was a pro and we did tons of the above every summer but for some reason I'm afraid to try my hand at it on my own.
