"If a foreign government attempted to isolate the US economically, cut off our supply of gasoline, or starve us to death, would it cause Americans to admire that foreign entity? Or would we instead unite under the flag for the survival of our country?

We would not tolerate foreign covert operations fomenting regime change in our government. Yet our CIA has been meddling in Iran for decades. Of course Iranians resent this. In fact, many in Iran still resent the CIA’s involvement in overthrowing their democratically elected leader in 1953. The answer is not to cut off gasoline to the Iranian people. The answer is to stay out of their affairs and trade with them honestly. If our operatives were no longer in Iran, they would no longer be available as scapegoats for the regime to, rightly or wrongly, blame for every bad thing that happens. As bad as other regimes may be, it is up to their own people to deal with them so they can achieve true self-determination. When foreigners instigate regime change, the new government they institute is always perceived as serving the interest of the overthrowing country, not the people. It is not necessary to agree with all of Ayn Rand's views and opinions in order to see the merit and moral justification of the no force / no fraud principle she advocated for interactions among men. She believed that men should interact on voluntary rather than compulsive grounds, and that the only proper use of force was in defense of life and property. This is the same platform that most of the founders advocated, which is the reason strict limitations on government power make up the bulk of the Constitution. It is also important for us to recognize that both major political parties are guilty of violating the principle of nonaggression. They both work to compel, by threat of economic and physical force, peaceful individuals to do things they would not otherwise choose to do. Even back when this interview was conducted, Rand realized this and said that the people were not given a real choice in the two protected political parties. There are individuals in political parties who do not violate the principle of no force / no fraud, and those are the individuals we should support and vote for.

The story of Lynn Moses can be found at www.idahofreedom.net.

The summary:
Lynn was convicted of a felony, spent time in prison and was fined. His felony was prosecuted by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. His crime: 30 years ago Mr. Moses wanted to build a subdivision by a creek. After approaching the county commissioners and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Feds determined that the creek "runs intermittently, and therefore is not governed by the Clean Water Act". The county required Lyn to be responsible for the water (keeping the creek from flooding). The subdivision was erected and Mr. Moses kept the creek clear.

The blog article describes what happened next best:
"The years passed. New federal employees would show up. They’d write and warn him to get a federal permit for the creek work. Moses would write back, remind the government what the government previously told him and ask the agency to explain why he required a permit. The letter would be met with silence. The issue would go away. Years would pass. Another warning from the government. Another response from Moses. And the cycle would repeat."

I came across what I think is a great piece of writing from Alexis de Tocqueville, and thought I would share it.

"When after having thus successively taken each member of the community in its powerful grasp, and fashioned him at will, the supreme power then extends its arm over the whole community. It covers the surface of society with a network of small complicated rules, minute and uniform, through which the most original minds and the most energetic characters cannot penetrate to rise above the crowd. The will of man is not shattered but softened, bent and guided; men are seldom forced by it to act, but they are constantly retrained from acting. Such a power does not destroy, but it prevents existence; it does not tyrannize, but it compresses, enervates, extinguishes, and stupefies a people, till each nation is reduced to be nothing better than a flock of timid and industrial animals, of which government is the shepherd. Phil Valentine is taking the same stand against Zack Wamp as Davidson County (Nashville, TN) Republican Party Vice Chairman, Matt Collins. Interestingly, the local GOP is trying to remove Collins from office because of his principled stand. Collins, a true conservative and supporter of both Ron Paul and Rand Paul (another thorn in the side of establishment "conservatives") has said Zack Wamp's support for the bailouts does not meet true conservative standards.
