But don't throw out the phone number to the physician who performed your procedure, yet.

Because your body has undergone a physical change through surgery, you'll have to make sure to visit your physician about a year after the last postoperative checkup so that they can monitor your body and ensure everything is doing alright. They'll check for rupture and deflation, since breast implants aren't lifelong devices.

Make sure to get your breasts checked every year for a general examination and mammogram as well, and let the technician know you've got implants.

Editorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13028871793577419706noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24775272.post-63942123545147396552009-04-21T13:47:00.001-07:002009-04-21T14:01:31.454-07:00Mastopexy vs Breast AugmentationMany women inquire about breast augmentation to correct their body contour when in fact, a breast lift is more appropriate. A breast lift, or mastopexy in technical terms, surgically boosts the breasts up to make them perkier. Breast augmentation, on the other hand, simply involves the insertion of an implant to make the breasts bigger - placed where the bulk of breast tissue naturally exists.

But if the breasts are saggy and augmented, you'll just have larger, saggy breasts (and actually over time, they may sag even more as the effects of gravity and age take their toll.)

So how do you figure out if a breast lift is more appropriate for you? Just look at the mirror. If your breasts look better when you lift them up, then you most likely need a breast lift. It's as easy as that.

And remember, if you want larger and perkier breasts, it is possible to perform breast augmentation at the same time as a breast lift.

Editorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13028871793577419706noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24775272.post-15688814404234947112009-04-05T15:26:00.000-07:002009-04-05T17:35:52.804-07:00The Benefits of the Periareolar IncisionDuring breast augmentation, a breast implant is inserted through an incision. One of the most common places for an incision is partially around the areola.

The periareolar incision is popular for a number of reasons:

1. It allows for easy placement. The implant is inserted directly into the breast - there is no path it must take in order to get to the breast.

2. Easy adjustment. The implant can be easily adjusted through the incision to achieve a desirable result. This is unlike other incision sites, particularly transumbilical (incision in the belly button).

3. An almost invisible scar. The incision is made right where around the edge of the areola, where the darker skin meets the lighter skin tone and the texture is slightly bumpy. As a result, a properly healed scar that is formed can be easily masked by this natural pigmentation and skin texture.

Editorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13028871793577419706noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24775272.post-38215588437828320152009-03-24T06:38:00.000-07:002009-03-24T07:12:05.786-07:00How much does breast augmentation cost?According to the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery, the average price of a breast augmentation procedure in 2008 was about $5100 (just over $6200 CA). We aren't sure if this price includes anesthesia and other related fees, but it is roughly the same price as breast augmentation performed at Toronto Cosmetic Clinic.

Last year, there were 40,630 breast augmentation procedures performed by members of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery. That's a pretty impressive number, considering that the economy was flailing for most of the year.

Editorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13028871793577419706noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24775272.post-79280587418604804062009-03-06T08:32:00.000-08:002009-03-06T08:44:12.357-08:00The Problem with SalineSaline implants have long been the norm for breast augmentation. However, with the approval of silicone a couple of years ago, saline implants have begun to reduce in popularity. Cohesive gel, or "gummy bear" implants are becoming more popular, since they have a more natural feel and are comprised of silicone that does not run when ruptured, making them safer than older silicone implants.

Though saline is still popular with some women, they tend to be less successful in mimicking the natural contours of the breast. Rippling is a very common aesthetic problem, as the saline can slosh around within the implant shell (a movement which may also be faintly audible to the woman with the implants), creating waves and ripples that may be visible on parts of the breast skin. On the lower portions of the breast, or underneath it, wrinkling may also occur.

However, this isn't to say that saline is all bad - it's still considered favourable for some since the incision required during surgery tends to be smaller and ruptures may be more quickly detected since deflation is faster than with cohesive gel implants. Some physicians believe that the risk of capsular contraction may also be lower for women with saline implants.

For more information, speak to your physician to determine which type of implant is best for your body.

Editorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13028871793577419706noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24775272.post-65271276723087990902009-02-19T09:00:00.000-08:002009-02-19T09:06:38.846-08:00Changing ImplantsBreast implants aren't made for life. Even though the manufacturer normally provides an estimated lifespan for an implant (anywhere from 10-20 years in most cases), a woman may need to change it not because it's been damaged or has ruptured, but because of a range of other reasons. These reasons include capsular contraction, a desire to go bigger or smaller, or a preference for a different shape (for example, going from a high profile to a moderate profile).

That means a woman will most likely need to change her implants at least once in her life. It's important to keep this in mind if you're considering undergoing breast augmentation.

Editorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13028871793577419706noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24775272.post-47913281029951188472009-02-17T14:31:00.000-08:002009-02-17T15:26:14.830-08:00Only One Breast?
Us humans are rarely born with totally symmetrical features. Something on the left side of our body or face may be different in size compared to the same feature on the right side of our body. It may sound strange, but it's normal. Having one breast smaller than the other is extremely common. For some, asymmetry may be barely noticeable, while for others, it can be as drastic as a difference of a cup size!

So it comes to no surprise that some women who undergo breast augmentation do so to treat only one breast. And we're not talking about breast cancer survivors - we're talking about women who were just born with a smaller breast and have a serious problem with asymmetry. Because most physicians perform breast augmentation with the hope of acquiring natural looking results, they can help women select the best implant size to achieve a symmetrical body contour.

Editorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13028871793577419706noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24775272.post-40417517229820998612009-02-05T08:17:00.000-08:002009-02-05T08:51:41.145-08:00Visualize your Breast Augmentation ResultsIt's hard to imagine what you'd look like after breast augmentation. You can stuff your bra, photoshop your picture, or close your eyes and try to see yourself with bigger boobs, but it just doesn't work, does it?

Fortunately, there is now a way to see what you could look like after surgery, fast and free! Toronto Cosmetic Clinic introduces Portrait 3D and XS-300 hardware from Axis Three, a fabulous new service that lets you see the predicted results of your breast augmentation almost instantaneously - for the first time in Canada. Your picture will be rendered into a photorealistic 3D image that can be altered according to the implant sizes you choose, with the predicted results visible from all angles. That's right - unlike other imaging programs that only show you what you'd look like from the front, Portrait 3D allows you to see yourself from any angle, whether it be either side at any degree or from the bottom looking up. You'll be able to see if those DDs you're thinking about are suitable for your body, or if you should go smaller or bigger. You'll even be able to select different sized implants for each breast to achieve a more balanced contour.

All you have to do is call 416-221-5554 to book your free consultation with a medical professional, and you get to take advantage of this service for free, with no strings attached. Find out more information here.

Editorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13028871793577419706noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24775272.post-44699730687261856482009-02-02T13:04:00.000-08:002009-02-02T13:16:38.857-08:00Weight and Breast Augmentation
Like many surgical procedures, your weight can influence the outcome of your surgery. Physicians recommend that women who are considering undergoing breast augmentation should be at a weight that is close to your ideal.

Significant weight loss following surgery can affect results, causing a possible decrease in volume or even drooping and sagging. On the contrary, significant weight gain can also affect results by making the breasts larger than desired.

For this reason, women should be at a stable weight and are not intending to dramatically slim down following their procedure. Ideally, a healthy weight is preferred since the breast augmentation is designed for women who are relatively healthy, physically and mentally.

Editorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13028871793577419706noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24775272.post-17814917392811473742009-01-23T10:25:00.000-08:002009-01-23T07:51:51.637-08:00Breast Augmentation in 2007Liposuction may be the number one invasive cosmetic procedure in North America, but for women, the top spot is reserved solely for breast augmentation.

The stats for 2008 have still not been released, however the number of breast augmentation procedures performed in the US for 2007 was a whopping 399,440, with the majority of all cosmetic procedures targeting the 35-50 age group.

60.6% of breast augmentation procedures used saline implants, versus only 39.4% using silicone. However, we expect the number of silicone implants to increase as consumers and physicians opt for the more natural feel of silicone "gummy bear" implants.

Editorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13028871793577419706noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24775272.post-77011023068265318752008-09-26T13:34:00.001-07:002008-09-26T13:45:10.115-07:00Scarless Breast AugmentationWhat exactly is "scarless" breast augmentation? Okay, so we admit that it is impossible to have absolutely no scar from a procedure that requires an incision or two. When the skin is broken, a scar always results, whether it be from cutting into the skin, a scraping it or burning it. If the incision heals properly, the scar fades and thins, becoming a light line that may have a raised texture.

However, when placed in a very strategic location that minimizes the appearance of the scar so much so that it is almost impossible to see with the naked eye, then that's when it's "scarless". And that's what Dr. Behnaz Yazdanfar, the primary physician at Toronto Cosmetic Clinic, does.

Scarless breast augmentation basically provides the patient with a result that's quite desirable, since it augments the breasts but the surgery doesn't leave an obvious scar.

The most common incision placement used by Dr. Yazdanfar is periareolar. For those of us who don't know what that means, it's basically an incision placed partially around the areola. Because the areola is darker than the surrounding skin, discolouration is not visible. The scar may also be textured, however it's well hidden by the slightly bumpy texture of the edge of the areola.

Other incision sites may also be used to achieve similar results, including through the armpit and through the belly button.

Editorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13028871793577419706noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24775272.post-47491144907528729122008-09-03T12:29:00.000-07:002008-09-03T12:38:09.567-07:00From the ArchivesBreast augmentation is the most popular cosmetic procedure in North America for women, right under liposuction. But not everyone supports a woman's choice to improve the aesthetic desirability of their body contour.

In England back in the winter of 2007, the husband of a woman who wanted to undergo breast augmentation was kidnapped from the hospital where she was going to have the procedure performed after he couldn't talk her out of it. He also threatened to kill her.

James McCarthy was charged with kidnapping his wife and sentenced. Prior to this time, silicone implants for breast augmentation, informally known as a boob job, had only been available to a specific number of people in Canada, under the strict supervision of medical professionals since 1992.

The move dramatically changed the field of cosmetic surgery, providing a new type of implant for boob jobs that is now considered far superior in its aesthetic than its saline counterpart.

Silicone implants are not what they once were. Today's silicone implants have been adapted by breast implant manufacturers to mimic the natural feel of the breast, and features safety precautions that drastically reduce the risk of leakage and the related adverse health effects. The filling of these implants is typically made of a silicone that is in cohesive gel form. If the shell is ruptured, the filling does not run; rather, it simply stays intact. While replacement is still necessary in the event of rupture, there are relatively no adverse side effects related to its "leakage". This cohesive gel implant, available in a variety of shapes and sizes, is typically referred to as a "gummy bear" implant because of its texture.

While Health Canada has approved silicone implants for the public, it is monitoring their usage closely. There are guidelines that must be followed if a physician decides to offer silicone implants for a client's boob job. Some important ones include the following:

*Patients must be made aware that no breast implant is good for life, which includes saline implants as well.

*Manufactures of breast implants must submit a report on their products every year. This report must include findings from research as well as reports submitted by healthcare professionals on their use.

*A national breast implant registry will be set up by Health Canada in order to monitor the effectiveness and safety of boob jobs across the country.

Editorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13028871793577419706noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24775272.post-11348928399816135612007-11-16T13:33:00.002-08:002008-04-28T04:11:44.920-07:00Breast Jobs Can Boost Your Self ConfidenceThere’s this crazy stigma around breast jobs, and through my first hand knowledge – they’re the most amazing things ever. Every friend who’s had one loves her body even more when the surgery is done. It’s almost a coming of age ritual in Hollywood: you turn 21 and you get a boob job. And how many celebrity careers have been launched by perfect breasts?

It’s not something to be embarrassed or ashamed of – the people I’ve known who’ve had boob jobs start out thinking they just want to go from an A cup to a full B cup. But the doctor always advises a full C cup. And by the time my friends are used to their new chest they want to be DD’s. They’re proud and confident and love their new selves. So if you’ve been holding back because there’s a social stigma, that’s pure horse crap. Having a breast augmentation can be a great way to boost your self esteem.

Editorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13028871793577419706noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24775272.post-59249801395549727202007-11-16T13:33:00.001-08:002007-11-16T13:33:29.023-08:00Breast Feeding Does Not Cause The SagWe’ve all heard the age old story, “Your breasts will never be the same once you have kids…” Well that may or may not be true. Dr Brian Rinker, a plastic surgeon at the University of Kentucky had so many women coming in to him complaining “I want to fix what breastfeeding did to my breasts,” that he decided to do a study to find out whether breastfeeding really had anything to do with “the sag.” What he discovered was truly remarkable. Breastfeeding has nothing to do with the sagging of breasts.

What did take a toll, he found out, was age and the effect of smoking. Smoking breaks down elastin in the skin and causes it to lose it’s youthful appearance. So if you want to keep your perky breasts you’ve got to kick that nasty habit.

Editorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13028871793577419706noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24775272.post-53683138780711087902007-11-16T13:32:00.000-08:002007-11-16T13:33:00.239-08:00Jane SeymourJame Seymour is finally talking. About her breasts that is. She had a lift. And small implants. Why you ask? For a movie role of course. Now that’s taking method acting to the extreme. When Jane Seymour got the role of playing a wealthy society lady who ends up having a topless scene with Owen Wilson (20 years her junior) in Wedding Crashers, she just couldn’t turn it down. But she couldn’t figure out a way to make it work. In comes the knife. She admits it was an excuse to get it done. But is now torn about the decision. Her implants were so small they had to be custom ordered and specially made. Kind of makes you wonder if they were worth it. Do you need the extra silicone in your body or would a lift do the same thing? Nonetheless she’s got them now. But she’s said she’s holding off on anymore plastic surgery until it becomes more “natural” looking. I think I have some pictures I could show her that might change her mind…

Editorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13028871793577419706noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24775272.post-50359533899013234532007-11-05T09:56:00.000-08:002008-04-28T04:12:26.484-07:00Debunking some breast augmentation mythsThere are a number of myths associated with breast implants. Everything from breast implants saving a woman’s life to grave robber’s finding silicone bags in caskets. What’s fact and what’s fiction? Well here are a few things that will help set the record straight:

1. Breast implants DO NOT increase the risk of breast cancer.

A committee at the Institute of Medicine (IOM) found evidence that breast implants don’t cause breat cancer or the recurrence of breast cancer. However it’s still essential that you undergo routine screening for breast cancer.

2. Breast implants DO NOT weaken your immune system.

When your body detects something foreign in your system, such as a virus or bacterium, it responds by kicking your immune system into high gear. However, the IOM found no evidence to suggest this happens with breast implants. Nor did it find evidence linking implants to any autoimmune or connective tissue disorder.

3. Breastfeeding IS safe.

Your breast milk could absorb some of the silicone from breast implants but in an amount that's not considered harmful to your baby. Because breast milk is the best thing you can feed your baby, the IOM encourages women with breast implants to breastfeed if they're able to do so.

4. Are SILICONE breast implants safe?

In 1992, FDA Commissioner David Kessler warned about the possible dangers of silicone gel filled implants. As a result, use was restricted to patients in clinical trials of breast reconstruction after cancer surgery. Kessler was careful to point out that the ban was not because implants had been found dangerous, but because the manufacturers had not proved them safe. The rest of the world followed suit but within 2 years nearly every other country except the United States had relaxed the restrictions. This began the slow process of running serious studies on the safety of breast implants. The first study from the Mayo Clinic found no association between breast implants and twelve connective tissue diseases. Several other epidemiologic studies also failed to find a connection. In November 2006, that restriction was lifted when the FDA concluded that silicone implants were not associated with any underlying diseases, making them equally as safe as saline.

5. Yes you CAN go scuba diving or fly in airplanes after having breast implants.

The question is really what happens to an implant in an area of high or low atmospheric pressure. Experiments to test these situations have been performed. At high altitudes the implants expanded, but it occurs at too high an altitude for a person to live and the expansion is not enough to cause it to explode. Therefore there is no risk of a breast implant exploding inside of a living person. The reverse condition has also been tested and no examples of implants exploding or breaking have been noted during scuba diving.

6. Was a woman’s LIFE really saved by her breast implants?

True Fact. An Israeli woman’s breast implants saved her life when she was wounded in a Hezbollah rocket attack during Israel’s war with the Lebanese group. Doctors found shrapnel embedded in the silicone implants, just inches from the 24-year-old’s heart.

7. Grave robber’s find silicone bags in caskets.

Disintegration of the tissues of the body will occur much faster than the silicone in breast implants. Future societies will find many artificial objects in caskets, including metal pacemakers, ceramic hip joints, Gortex arteries and a myriad of small items such as surgical staples, screws and nails.

Editorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13028871793577419706noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24775272.post-5020796846960724212007-11-04T10:49:00.000-08:002007-11-04T10:50:00.391-08:00People are drawn to Argentina for cosmetic surgeryI’d never considered cosmetic surgery. Well, I’d never considered it until I heard about Argentina. The elegant country with a European-flavored sophistication, stunning natural wonders, and a passionate culture, which just happens to have a little sumthin’ sumthin’ goin’ on on the side that’s made me want to sign up for a visit ASAP. It’s called “the boob-job boom.”

It all began after the 2002 financial collapse of the country and its currency devaluation. It became so inexpensive to visit Argentina that tourists flocked to the area. One of the industries that arose out of this was Medical Tourism.

Now tourists are drawn to the country by the droves as they seek out travel packages that include flight, accommodations, and COSMETIC SURGERY at incredibly reasonable prices. A facelift that might cost $15,000 in that States might cost approximately $5,000 in Argentina. (By the way, those are prices that would make me consider surgery that I probably wouldn’t need.)

Argentina is in the world's top ten countries by number of surgeries. "They find the best specialists in Cali, the latest scientific advances in plastic surgery and highly competitive prices. So we receive more than 100,000 patients per year," said Gladis Barona, director of the National Commerce Federation. And with what they offer I’m 100% a convert. If only for the fun of it. I’d get to vacation in fabulous Argentina (home of the sultry tango) with flight and accommodations included, and who cares that I’ll throw in a little “work” while I’m enjoying my breezy vacation. For $5000 that can’t be beat.

Editorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13028871793577419706noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24775272.post-19069499849405066722007-11-01T18:27:00.000-07:002007-11-01T18:28:25.769-07:00How to enhance a bust line with the right clothesWhen you think “bust line” you don’t generally think “Oprah.” But her corporate team obviously does excellent research as Oprah recommended the Le Mystere Tisha Bra as her favorite bra and now it’s my favorite too. It lifts, it holds, and it is completely seamless (ie, invisible). And never forget that an attractive bust line starts with the bra.

Once you’re gently lifted and held in place by a magical force unknown to man, you have to remember that every body shape is different. So make the decision: is your bust smaller or larger? Now it’s time to dress to impress.

Think of yourself as a canvas and your clothing as the paint and you’re about to create a beautiful painting. If your bust is large it is generally more flattering to wear a v-neck or a scoop neck as it breaks up the chest area and draws the eye away from the bust (which would seem like the WRONG thing to be doing, but actually it’s the RIGHT thing to do geometrically). If your bust is small you want to wear a boat, jewel, or even a higher neckline. These broaden the shoulders and create the illusion of a larger bust.

Those are the rules. Good bra. Think geometry. And a little magic always helps.

Editorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13028871793577419706noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24775272.post-4976340517672773882007-10-15T11:07:00.001-07:002008-09-26T13:33:18.265-07:00Breast augmentation surgery: Subglandular PlacementEver wonder what exactly happens during a breast augmentation procedure? Well, this is a step-by-step account of what happened during one typical breast enhancement procedure, featuring a periareolar incision and subglandular placement of implants. The physician performing the procedure was Dr. Behnaz Yazdanfar at Toronto Cosmetic Clinic.

The surgical room is cleaned and sterilized thoroughly. After the patient is placed under general anesthesia, the chest area is isolated and sterilized. Sterility is vital to prevent infection. A diluted solution containing lidocaine is injected into specific areas of the chest to minimize bleeding. An incision is made partially around the edge of the areola from 3 to 7 o’clock. Because it is ideal for the resulting scar to be as discreet as possible, the incision should be placed right in the area where the areola meets the paler skin on the rest of the body.

Gently pushing the areola and nipple aside, space is made in the breast tissue to accommodate the implant. Then, to ensure that the positioning and the created space are adequate, a “sizer” is inserted and filled with fluid to the desired volume (a sizer is an empty implant shell). At this time, any odd indentations appearing in the breast, particularly in the inframammary fold, are also corrected. It is important that the size fit correctly before the real implant is placed.

Once this is completed, the sizer is removed and the cavity is wiped with gauze to ensure there is no bleeding. Minor bleeding is stopped with a cauterizer. An antibiotic is administered in the cavity and the implant is inserted. In this case, the implant was a round cohesive gel type.

Again, the positioning of the implants is checked to ensure optimal results. A subcuticular stitching technique is performed using monocryl dissolvable sutures to close the incisions. Once they are dressed, the actual procedure is completed and the patient is taken to another room for recovery.

Inventory of the instruments and gauze is taken intermittently throughout the procedure.

Dr. Behnaz Yazdanfar has performed hundreds of breast augmentation procedures in her professional career.

Editorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13028871793577419706noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24775272.post-58184580915368825552007-09-17T16:05:00.002-07:002007-09-17T16:22:49.322-07:00Joing The Army for New Boobs
Your breast can be all that they can be if you just join the army!

Although the Australian Defence Department has denied that two women got $10,000 breast implants at taxpayers expense, defence minister Brendan Nelson has called an urgent briefing to investigate the incident.

So if you have a hankering for some danger and to see the world, maybe the army is a great way to pay for those new girls you've always wanted. In a recent interview she states:

“I’m 32 and as you get older, you get wrinkles and your boobs sag. You get wisdom too so it’s not all bad.”

She's not quite ready to go under the knife but only time will tell if the pressures of Hollywood will be to much to withstand:

“You can’t really do anything about ageing. Some people have Botox, and that’s great. Hopefully I’ll be okay with not getting Botox, but who knows?”

Good luck Charlize.
