ChromeSkull

Here's ChromeSkull from Robert Hall's new film "Laid to Rest."

Overall I enjoyed this nasty little slasher film, but having just watched Hall's debut film "Firefly" I have to admit to being some what disappointed with "Laid to Rest."

In "Firefly" Hall creates characters that you become attached to and really want to make it out of the shitty situation they find themselves in, that sense of real evolved characters is sadly missing from LTR. If he would have spent the time creating well rounded characters and inserted them into LTR the results would have been devastating.

Still, the combination of grisly effects work strewn throughout LTR and the introduction of the sleek new slasher "ChromeSkull" make for an enjoyable ride.

Hey all,

Thanks for all the support, we had a blast at HorrorHound Indy!
I'm really hoping to post some new work here very soon, but I am currently working on a Plague of Zombies piece for Little Shoppe of Horrors Magazine, a Forrest J. Ackerman portrait for Scary Monsters Magazine, and a variant cover for the Vincent Price Presents comic.

After that I'll get to some of your requests, look for new portraits of Dexter, American Werewolf, The Killer Klowns, and Karloff as the Grave Digger... As well as portraits of makeup legend Jack Pierce, and director James Whale. (Who knows maybe I'll even get around to finishing the Clark Ashton Smith portrait my good friend has been longing for.)

It was great to see old friend Robert Freese again.

We were lucky enough to be right across from the adorable ladies from Sinister Sweets, who provided much entertainment every time a creepy clown would walk by.

Mrs. ScOttRa was excited to me Monster Kid Danny Roebuck, or as she likes to call him Dr. Arnzt from Lost. Dan's a great guy, if you haven't already be sure to pick up a copy of "Halloween . . . The Happy Haunting of America" You won't regret it!

This guys Tattoos were amazing, just beautiful work... Sadly I lost the name of the artist, but behold...

This little guy was awesome!

And finally, I'll leave you with some of the amazing mask/sculpture work that was on display... The Pinhead from Freaks and the Lugosi Dracula were personal favorites, just stunning.

Rondo Award Post Game Report

Thanks to everyone for taking the time to vote!

It looks like I came in third place behind the previous winner Frank Dietz, and ultimately living legend Famous Monster's artist Basil Gogos without whom it could arguably be said there wouldn't be such a thing as "Monster Art."

They mentioned my name and said that I had a "really strong showing" which never would have happened without you!

It's pretty amazing to have gone from nothing to being mentioned along side the likes of Frank, and Basil within 3 years!!!

So thanks!

I have a few high profile logs on the fire, so there's always next year!

Rorschach

Here's Rorschach.

I have mixed feelings about Zach Snyder's dumbed down version of Alan Moore's masterpiece "The Watchmen." But I have been a fan of Rorschach since an old boss at a comic book store back in '87 sent me home with the first 4 issues of "The Watchmen," which I devoured.

I was immediately drawn to Rorschach, his cut and dry simplistic take on good and evil hasn't ever really coincided with my own beliefs, but the absoluteness of his integrity even in the face of Armageddon can't be argued with.

For a while I emulated Rorschach, stealing his signature and adopting is as my own, singing my drawings with a set of mirrored r's.

Unfortunately the masses will get their first taste of Rorschach from Snyder's film, which changes the birth of Rorschach and thus alters the character's madness unforgivably...

There was some stuff I liked, but after giving it a couple of days to sink in I say
if you need to "watch" The Watchmen, stick to the motion comic instead.

At any rate, here is my take on R.

Cropsy

Here's Lou David as Cropsy from Tony Maylam's 1981 film "The Burning."

The Burning was at the top of my "must track down" list when I was a kid, having somehow got my hand's on a copy of Tom Savini's book "Grand Illusions" back in 1983.
I was blown away by the ingenuity Savini pulled off creating these effects.

Only to be disappointed to find them all censored out when I finally did track it down, luckily these days it so much easier to get stuff like this in its original uncensored format.

In the U.K. The Burning found itself at the center of some controversy, when Thorn-EMI accidentally released the uncut version of the film on videotape rather than the version passed by the British Film Board. The tapes were impounded under the Obscene Publications Act, and The Burning was added to the video nasties list.

An interesting piece of Trivia:
Jason Alexander, best known for his role as George from Seinfeld, made his film debut in The Burning.
