Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh has regretted the death of 32-year-old Sumit Prakash Verma, who died of a kidney problem during Prime Minister's visit to Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) in Chandigarh. Sumit's family had alleged that he died, as his ambulance was not allowed to enter the emergency area on time because of PM's security measures.

The Prime Minister wrote a letter to Sumit's wife, expressing his sadness and regret over the incident and said that he has asked the security agencies to care for the problems of common man, even if the security measures are in place.

Sumit was suffering from renal failure and other complications. He hailed from Ambala near Chandigarh. Sumit is survived by his wife and two children.

19 test positive for Dengue in Delhi, Total Cases rise to 416

New Delhi: Breaking News! 19 more people tested positive for dengue in the national capital, taking the total number of affected people to 416. According to MCD, 19 more cases of dengue were detected between Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning. There has been a surge in dengue cases in Delhi during the last couple of weeks.

Although the impact of dengue is far less than last year, authorities are not taking any chance and making all efforts to prevent it from spreading further. At least two people have died of dengue in Delhi so far this year.

FBI: Headley and Rana planned to attack National Defence College in New Delhi

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has revealed that David Coleman Headley and LeT operative Tahawwur Hussain Rana were planning to launch attacks on the prestigious National Defence College in New Delhi. The duo were arrested by the FBI. Rana is a Pakistani-born Canadian citizen and was staying in Chicago.

The FBI arrested them, while they were planning a Mumbai-type terror attack in India. A Pakistani diplomat Aman Rashid is under scanner, as he was trying to help Headley acquire a Pakistan visa. He reportedly knew of Headley and Rana's plans.

Rashid, Headley and Rana are the former students of the Cadet College Hasan Abdal school. Aman Rashid is currently Pakistan's consul general in Chicago. While Headley and Rana wanted to attack several key installations in India, their prime target was the National Defence College in New Delhi, said FBI.

Gandhidham Express Derails in Mumbai, 12 Injured

The Gandhidham-Bangalore Express derailed at Dombivli near Mumbai after midnight Tuesday. 11 coaches of Gandhidham Bangalore Express were derailed and 12 persons were injured in this mishap. Railway authorities had rushed to the accident spot in the night and carried out rescue operation. The train was moving from Ahmedabad to Bangalore.

The aauthorities have claimed that the train accident near Dombivli will not hamper the local train running in Mumbai. All the passengers of Gandhidham Bangalore Express to Bangalore were shifted into another train, which reached the accident site in the night of Tuesday.

It is also reported that the four coaches out of 11 coaches were badly damaged. All 12 passengers sustained minor injuries, the officials claimed. Medical assistance was provided to the injured persons at the accident site.

Two die of Swine Flu, India Toll goes up to 477

New Delhi: Breaking News! After a lull for two days, Swine Flu is back again with two more deaths reported today. The Swine Flu death toll in the country has now gone up to 477. The new deaths were reported from Maharashtra and Kerala. Maharashtra has now accounted for 204 Swine Flu deaths.

At least 76 new cases of Swine Flu were reported across the country, taking the number of affected people to 14,049. Out of 76 new cases, 23 were reported from Karnataka, followed by Delhi (22), Tamil Nadu (16) and Maharashtra (12).

BCCI expels Services for one year for pulling our of Ranji Tie in Srinagar

Mumbai: Breaking News! The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has suspended the Services team for one year, after it pulled out of its first Ranji Trophy game against Jammu & Kashmir in Srinagar. The issue will be taken up at the highest level of the PMO and Defence Ministry, sources said.

Services team was to play against Jammu & Kashmir in the Ranji Trophy plate division. But they did not travel to the city. The BCCI may take further action against Services at its Working Committee meeting. Services team is controlled by the Services Sports Control Board (SSCB).

The Services won't be allowed to play in any domestic tournaments organised by the BCCI. They will also not receive any match fees. Although no official word came from Services, it is believed that they pulled out due to security concerns.

Jammu & Kashmir has not hosted a single Ranji Trophy match since 2004. Meanwhile, the Haryana cricket team has confirmed about their participation in the Ranji Trophy game in Srinagar, which will begin on November 10.

Jamiat-e-Ulema-e-Hind issues FATWA against Vande Mataram

New Delhi: The National Convention of the Jamiat-e-Ulema-e-Hind issued a "fatwa" against the National Song 'Vande Mataram', saying some of its lines were against the religious principles of Islam. The decision drew flak from major opposition party BJP. Ironically, Union Home Minister P Chidambaram was present at the convention.

A resolution asking Muslims not to sing the National Song, was adopted at the National Convention of the Jamiat at Darul Uloom Deoband. Home Minister Chidambaram and some Hindu priests were also present at the convention.

Muslim clerics had argued that 'Vande Mataram' means 'Mother India, I bow to thee!' They said that it would be against the principles of Islam to bow before somebody other than Allah. Moulana Muizuddin of the Jamiat said, "We are Indians and will remain so forever without singing Vande Mataram.

PMO asks report on death of Man during PM's PGIMER Visit

New Delhi: The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) has sought a detailed report on the death of a kidney patient during Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh's visit to Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) at Chandigarh. The man reportedly died, as his ambulance was delayed to proceed due to PM's security measures.

The 32-year-old Sumit Prakash Verma died, as the vehicle carrying him could not enter the emergency area of the PGIMER immediately due to security concerns. The PM was on a visit to PGIMER at that time. His family members have alleged that only the security measures were responsible for Sumit's death.

Sumit Verma was suffering from a major kidney problem and breathing complications. He is survived by his wife and two children.

Arushi Murder Accused Rajkumar fears threat from Rajesh Talwar

The CBI has already given a clean chit to her father Dr. Rajesh Talwar, but made the above three persons accused in this case. Arushi's missing mobile phone was recently recovered from Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh.

391 Dengue Cases reported in Delhi

New Delhi: Breaking News! After Swine Flu, Dengue is back to haunt the Delhiites. At least 16 new cases of dengue were reported on Monday, taking the total number of cases in the national capital to 391. Dengue is a vector-borne disease, which is transmitted by female Aedes Mosquitoes. Delhi always reports the highest number of dengue cases in the country.

Last year, a total number of 1,070 dengue cases were reported till November 1, 2008. Health official said that there is no reason to be panic, as situation is under control as of now.

According to them, breeding of mosquitoes are less than last year. The MCD is doing door-to-door checks to prevent minimise the impact of dengue.

Earlier, India did very well to restrict Australia to 250 in 49.2 overs. Top scorers were Cameroon White (62), Ponting (52), Watson (49) and Hussey 40. For India, Ashish Nehra took 3 wickets, while Harbhajan took 2 wickets.

Chasing a victory target of 251, Tendulkar and Sehwag added 40 runs for the first wicket. Sehwag scored 30 off 19 balls. Sachin Tendulkar was batting very well, but he was wrongly given LBW, when the balls was clearly missing the leg stump. He made 40.

Virat Kohli and Yuvraj Singh did not last long. Dhoni tried to rescue the team, but failed, as he was out for 26. Harbhajan and Praveen Kumar reminded their heroic at Vadodara with some smashing shots. But that was not enough. India bowled out for 226 in 46.4 overs. Harbhajan made 31.

For Australia, Doug Bollinger and Shane Watson took 3 wickets each. Shane Watson was declared "Man of the Match" for his all-round performance. He made 49, took 3 wickets and 2 catches.

President Hamid Karzai declared winner of Afghanistan Polls

Afghanistan's Election Commission has declared President Hamid Karzai as the winner of the elections held in the country, after the second round of voting was cancelled following the withdrawal of opposition leader Abdullah Abdullah from the race yesterday. As a result, the run-off was cancelled.

Although Hamid Karzai was declared the winner of the first round of voting in August, a large number of votes were termed invalid amid the allegations of rigging or manipulation. That forced the Election Commission to announce a run-off between Karzai and Abdullah.

Rukhsana, her brother Aijaz and her uncle Wakalat Hussain got job with the J&K Police. Rukhsana had killed on LeT terrorist and injured another with their own gun on September 27. She was helped by her younger brother too. But she was engaged in a one-to-one fight with the terrorist, snatched his gun, overpowered him and killed him on the spot.

Rukhsana and her family members have been shifted to a safer location after the incident. The Centre has already announced a bravery award for Rukhsana, who has become a symbol of woman power in India.
