Going Full-time In An Online Business.

And finally… my apologies for having not posted here for awhile. I've just recently started a new job with very long hours. This is my price to pay (for now) to be able to pay off some credit card debt, and then to invest a bit more money into my internet business.

Then eventually, I want to cut back on the regular work and devote more time to my online business and ultimately, go full-time in internet marketing (just like Suzanne).

Subscribing To Online Newsletters.

Over the past 12 months I've subscribed to many newsletters… I've also unsubscribed from many as well. It got to the point where I stopped reading some of the newsletters, even though they came from well-known internet marketing gurus.

Once it becomes all sales pitches and no useful content, there's not much point staying subscribed in my opinion. Especially when you get the same sales pitch from every other man and his dog.

There's only three newsletters that I continue to stay subscribed with… these are high-quality ezines that deliver excellent content and tips that I have learnt so much from. Sure, you still get the occasional sales pitch from time to time… they are a business after all and they need to make a living like the rest of us. But if I'm learning new things from their newsletters, then it's worth it to stay subscribed I think.

One of the most successful internet marketing companies around is the Internet Marketing Centre . Wow... how fast is this year going!

I feel like I need to work a bit faster to stay ahead of time, which seems to be going at ballistic speed.

I must say, that I'm fairly happy with my progress so far this year. The traffic and sales are steadily increasing. I'm just going to keep working more and analyze less... results will automatically flow from my efforts.

Building My Business One Day At A Time.

This year is getting better and better with my web site growing slowly but surely. I've been adding more pages to my site, and optimizing each page with my selected keyword phrases.

I'm building up my list of keyword phrases more and more, developing topics around each phrase and turning them into articles. A couple of weeks after I build the page, I then submit that article to some directories.

There is some work involved in developing content, building the pages and submitting articles. But the traffic, rankings, back-links and sales, certainly make it worthwhile. My main focus is on having quality content, and getting targeted traffic, more so than worrying about making money. Changes to my Home Page.

The last couple of weeks, I have been working on my home page to optimize it for the search engines, but also for visitors as well.

I have added new sales copy/content and also added some new Clickbank products as well. If you’d like to check it out you can see it here.

Now that this little project is out of the way, I will be adding new pages of content on a regular basis, targeting my keywords and working on getting more and more “organic” free traffic.

Also, Stone Evans has made some more changes to the Plug-In Profit Site, all the while testing and tweaking as he goes. Clickbank has been removed from the sales page as a requirement (although I am keeping it on my homepage) and IMC (Internet Marketing Center) has been added back as an affiliate program.

All in all, I’m pretty excited about the coming year. I’m learning more and more as I go and I am getting a clearer “picture” of what I want this year and how I’m going to get it.

07 Specific Things You -MUST- Do To Make It Big In '07

There must be some reason why certain people "make it big"
while others continue to struggle along with no real gains.

There is.

Whether you want to make your first thousand or your first
hundred thousand, here are 7 things you must do to have a
tremendous year in 2007.

*NOTE: These are in "countdown" format from 7 to 1.

7. *RESIST* distractions.

I'm not a prophet, but I can predict with great certainty that
you will be bombarded with more "offers" in 2007 than in any
previous year. There will be product launch after product
launch, the next big thing after the next big thing. You WILL
drown in information if you don't learn two simple words -

"No Thanks".

You simply CANNOT go from one offer to the next and ever gain
any momentum or see any significant results. I know, I know -
these offers are enticing. Here's the thing, though: if they
don't help you accomplish something you're already trying to
do, then they are just another distraction. Resist them.

6. *REFOCUS* your efforts.

What would happen if Michael Jordan had tried to play basketball,
baseball, football, soccer and golf all at the same time? He'd
have probably been "good" at all of them, but "great" at none of
them.

He achieved greatness by singling out what he was best at and
focusing the majority of his efforts in that area.

You'll find that this same principle applies to you and your
business. If you spread yourself thin trying to do too many
things you'll most certainly do none of them well. However, if
you pick ONE primary aspect of building an internet business
and devote your full effort and resources towards that area,
we should see you on the All-Star team this year!

Ex. Don't try to do affiliate marketing, create your own
products, eBay(R), private label resources, VRE, etc. all at
the same time. Find ONE stream of income and perfect it before
moving on to something else.

5. *REACT* positively to setbacks.

Yes, I'm gonna get rah-rah here for just a moment and play the
part of your personal cheerleader. :-)

Listen, there's not a one of us who've had any level of success
online who hasn't had our share of setbacks, failures and flops.
I know I have. The problem isn't if you get knocked down, but
rather when you fail to get back up.

You'll waste money this year on useless products. You'll regret
the way you used part of your time. You'll face a great
disappointment. You'll fall flat.

Don't stay down. Refuse to give in. Stand up and get back to
work on making this YOUR year.

Okay, enough of the pep talk. :-)

4. *REWARD* yourself.

It always amazes me when I ask someone "what would you do if you
made all the money you want this year" and I hear comments like...

- I'd go fishing.
- I'd play tennis.
- I'd relax at the lake.
- I'd read more books.

And so forth.

The question I then ask is, "why can't you do that NOW?!"

Life is too short - way too short - to let it pass you by. Many
of the things you enjoy doing can be done RIGHT NOW if you set
aside time to do them.

What is the real measure of success - making money or enjoying
your life? I'll let you decide.

3. *RESPOND* to appropriate offers.

Having warned you previously about the dangers of buying every
new "offer of the week", let me emphatically state that there
ARE times when you SHOULD respond with a "Yes" to certain offers.

And then time is -

"When the offer will HELP you do something you're already
trying to do, especially when YOU seek out the offer."

For Example: If you're wanting to start your own affiliate
program, then by all means by a course that teaches you how to
do so...but DON'T buy a course that teaches you how to buy and
sell "virtual real estate."

You need to purchase materials that will help you complete the
task you're trying to finalize, and avoid things that take you
away from the task you're trying to finalize.

See the difference?

2. *REMEMBER* to manage.

The problem for most people is learning how to implement all of
the components of internet marketing (You know the drill:
list-building, affiliate links, web sites, traffic, etc.) into
one day-by-day workable plan.

That's where it falls to pieces for most people. They've got all
of these ideas and all of this information and all of these new
enticing offers in their faces simultaneously...

And they don't know what to do next.

It's not about "marketing", it's about "management".

You need - above everything else - to figure out how to MANAGE
your internet business and all of its components so you can
systematically build your business one step at a time, one day
at a time.

1. *RECEIVE* personalized training.

Let me ask you a simple question: which of these would you prefer...

(a) A map
(b) A tour guide

Listen, one of the reasons why building a successful internet
business is so challenging is because there is an abundance of
"maps", but very few "tour guides".

Ebooks, reports, audios, videos, articles - these are a dime a
dozen. But where is someone you can talk to, ask questions to,
get advice from, get customized help for YOU and YOUR business?

That's a bit harder to find, isn't it?

Especially at a price you can reasonably afford.

Yet, getting someone to personally SHOW you how to do it is an
important, if not required, piece of the puzzle.

I encourage you to find a mentor this year. Maybe it will be me,
maybe it will be someone else. It really doesn't matter as long
as you find someone who is willing to invest time into YOU
PERSONALLY. Not an entire group of people on a call, but rather
interact with YOU one-on-one.

That's what will ultimately help you more than anything else you
do in the next 12 months - to have someone who's already learned
the ropes actually work with you personally to teach them to you.

CONCLUSION:

If you do these seven things that we've looked at here in this

have no real value until you put them into practice.

New Direction For Plug-In Profit Site.

Stone Evan’s recently made a fairly major (and very welcome) change to the Plug-In Profit Site (PIPS) program. He has removed Success University (SU) from the PIPS sales page as a required sign-up and instead included Clickbank. See Here.

Many newbies found that the expense of Success University (monthly fee of $49.95) was too much to be able to continue with the PIPS program. Having a lack of enrolees in SU made it increasingly harder.

But with the addition of Clickbank, that has changed. Clickbank is a free program with many great digital, downloadable products that offer rewarding commissions. So now, there is no more burden of a monthly fee, and more potential for quick and easy sales (and income) from this new inclusion.

Modelling Success From Sales Letters.

It’s very easy to get distracted by the constant sales messages and hype from emails, websites and landing pages. There is a big temptation to buy everything that is “thrown” at you. This is where you have to practice some discipline or you will end up very broke and have a lot of wasted items on your hard drive.

Rather than giving into all these sales letters, you can actually use them to learn from. Pay particular attention to any sales pages that really catch your attention and compel you to want to buy. Instead of pulling your credit card out, go through the copy and take note of the headline, the text, the offer, the call to action and the guarantee. What pushes your “buttons” and makes you want to buy the product?

If you can answer that, you can then model that sales page (do not copy) and create your own successful pages. After awhile, it becomes second nature to notice what works and what doesn’t work and to be able to apply that to your own situation.

And don’t worry; these “big secrets” will always be around later when you actually need them.

Expense Or Investment.

It’s easy to think that money spent on your online business is just an EXPENSE. This is especially true, if you seem to be shelling out more money than is coming in. But if you play your cards right, over time that money that you invest begins to return a profit. And then as long as you continue to put that money into the things that work, it will continue to return a profit for you indefinitely.

This is called “Return on Investment” or ROI. This is great because if you find a marketing strategy that works, you can invest more and more money into it to gain bigger and bigger profits. You have to make sure that you test and measure so that you have proven results to back this up. If you throw money at everything then it does become an expense because your return will be much less, or non-existent.

Keep in mind also, that money can be invested into time-saving tools that will free up more of your time. If the tool makes you more efficient in running your business and allows you to spend more time on other areas of your business, then it is well worthwhile. Just remember that time IS money.

Change your thinking when it comes to business “costs” because once you do, you can see greater possibilities for increasing your ROI.

I recently achieved 200 posts in the Warrior Forum, after being a member for 8 months (that’s when I started in this online game also). I found myself reflecting on my time so far in an online business and my participation in the forum.

I can honestly say that dropping into the forum each day has been the major reason why I have stuck with Internet Marketing (IM) for this long in good times and bad. Whenever I feel down, or question why I’m pursuing this line of work, I’ve only got to log into the warrior forum to see all the uplifting stories, the success that people are achieving, and all the support that’s on offer.

People freely give away their time, effort and often their tips and secrets as well to help others. Surrounding yourself with these successful people aids in your success as well. Of course, there can be negativity in the forum, but the best way to treat these comments is to learn from them without letting them get you down.

I’m amazed at how much I’ve learnt about IM in just a few short months, and how I’ve been able to contribute and help people in the forum as well. That feeling is very satisfying.

If you commit to visiting your favourite forum regularly and participating, you will go so much further in a shorter amount of time. You learn so much information from people that really know what they are talking about. And that information is all FREE.

IM is quite a lonely business, where friends and family don’t really understand what you are doing. So it’s great to be able to talk with other like-minded people who know what you are experiencing.

Six Steps To Ensure Success In Your Online Business

Starting an online business and then building it up is not only very challenging, but it can also be very frustrating as well. With 95% of internet marketers failing, there must be something that they are doing wrong and something that the 5% of successful marketers are doing right. Apart from not quitting, there are certain steps that successful people carry out to bring them closer to their goals. If you follow the steps consistently, you will succeed and it does not matter if you initially don’t know how to reach that goal. These are the steps below.

1. Know where you are.
2. Know where you want to be.
3. Take action.
4. Evaluate the results of that action.
5. Refine your action.
6. Repeat steps 3, 4 and 5.

1. Actually write down all your strengths and weaknesses as they relate to running an online business. For example, have you any web design experience, have you done any marketing, and how much money and time can you “invest” each week in your business? Do you have access to training, support, mentors, or materials that will help you reach your goal? List everything so that you know where you are starting from.

2. Write down where you want to be in 6 months, 12 months, 2 years and 5 years from now. In other words: your goals; how much money do you want to be making each month; do you want to have a part time or full time online business; what do you want to sell online. Be realistic with setting your goals, but then don’t sell yourself short either. You have to realise that other people have achieved massive success, so there is no reason why you can’t achieve big goals as well. Be specific when writing down your goals because you can only hit your target if you can “see” it properly.

3. Successful people gather information and facts, make a decision quickly and then take action immediately. The big advantage with this method is that it allows you to get feedback straight away, to take corrective action as required and to see other possibilities and resources. People that fail will usually gather information, try to decide, gather more facts, procrastinate and then not take any action. Or they will eventually take action, make a mistake and then give up after the first attempt.

Here’s a little secret for you. Successful people often don’t know how they are going to reach their goal either, but they just take the best action that they can and that gets the momentum started. ANY action is always better than no action. So write down your goal, break that down into more detailed action steps and get started immediately. Don’t worry if you’re not sure how to reach your goal because as you move forward, the picture will become clearer as you go. Where you can, always try to model the actions of other successful people that have already achieved what you want.

4. Now that you have done the above steps, you can evaluate the results of that action. What worked and what didn’t work? If something worked, then just keep doing that some more.

5. Next step is to refine your action to make it work better. If something isn’t working, consider what changes you could make to your strategy to make it better. Or it could be that you need to dump that method completely and try something new. Whatever it is, decide on your new course of action, and then act on it immediately. Remember, the sooner you can get feedback, the better.

6. Keep repeating steps 3, 4 and 5 until you hit your target. Quitting is not an option. You have to stay in the game if you want to realise the results.

Don’t be fooled by the simplicity of these steps. If you actually apply the steps to any skill that you want to learn, any goal that you want to achieve or to your online business, you will succeed. If you dismiss the steps, you will just keep getting what you’ve always gotten, and that is nothing.

Why 95% Of Internet Marketers Fail And How You Can Avoid It

It’s the greatest dream for most people. To be able to operate your own business, earning income from home on complete auto-pilot, with no boss to worry about, work when you want or take a holiday whenever you want, and to buy a house, car, boat or other toys. But for 95% of people that start an online business, this dream will end in failure. Why do so many fail? The simple answer is that they quit before success has a chance to appear, and often only one or two months after starting.

If you’ve been around for a little while, you probably are familiar with some of the big name gurus in Internet Marketing. The interesting thing about their journey is that they are all fairly similar to each other, in that many of them struggled in their online business for years. Some for 2 years, 4 years or even 6 years before they started to make a profit. Obviously in this present day, it doesn’t need to take this long to make it because we can learn from their mistakes and we have all the latest technology to make life easier.

The point is that, they aren’t successful now just because of special skills or knowledge, because many of them started out with no such resources, the same as you and me. They are successful now because they just KEPT GOING no matter what. Can you imagine “failing” for 4 years before you started to make a profit? Many people can’t imagine doing that for more than 2 months. Persistence, hard work and a burning desire for “the dream” is all that the gurus had, and all that YOU need. How badly do you want that dream?

The other stumbling block to succeeding online is your concept of failure. Usually when the 95% make a mistake, have a set-back or can’t do something, they see this as a sign that they will always fail, that they will never get it, and that they aren’t cut-out for internet marketing. On the other hand, the 5% see failure as feedback, letting them know when they are off-course and a learning experience where they can become even wiser. They see it as being one step closer to success. The irony is that successful people make more mistakes than anyone, yet they are willing to pay that price and make mistakes, and that is why they succeed. Any set-back is just an obstacle to go around, over, under or through.

Where would we be today if Thomas Edison gave up on the light bulb? He tried literally hundreds of different combinations to get the light bulb to work. Each attempt brought him one step closer to success and he knew it because he just expected to make it work – it was just a matter of when, not if. When a baby is learning how to walk they fall over many many times before they finally get it. Do you think they ever say to themselves, “Ah well, I guess I’m just not cut-out for this walking, I’ll have to crawl around for the rest of my life.”

Another trap to avoid, is measuring your progress based on how far you have to go to reach your goal. It seems so far away and no matter what you do, it never seems to get any closer (a bit like no matter how far you travel, the horizon never gets any closer). This will only make you feel discouraged, less motivated and more likely to give up. Instead, look back to where you started and see how far you’ve come. You will be absolutely amazed at how much you’ve learned, how much you’ve done and how far you have come. This will be very motivating because you will see that you have actually made a lot of progress. So focus your mind and actions on your goal, but measure your progress based on how far you have come.

When I first decided to start an online business, I almost gave up even before I got going. Why? Because I read about the 95% failure rate and I thought that I was probably wasting my time and there was little chance of me succeeding in this game. But I knew how much I wanted the dream and I decided that I would focus my mind on the 5% that make it, and learn as much as I can about how they did it. If you keep learning, keep taking action and NEVER stop, you will be in the 5%. It’s just a question of when, not if.

Building A Simple Web Site For The Beginner

When you’re fairly new to the internet, the thought of building a web page seems like a distant dream. Well, I’m here to tell you that you can build simple web pages even if you have no HTML experience and without having to do a training course. It’s not easy at first, but it is completely within reach for anyone. I should know, I didn’t know anything about web design and within a couple of weeks I had a simple lead-capture page built. So this article is from the beginner’s perspective.

When I started out, I had been considering ways of building an opt-in subscriber list. The obvious answer was to have my own lead capture page. I didn’t have the money to pay for someone else to build it for me so the only option was to attempt it myself. So the first step is just to decide that you will give it a go. Second step is to decide what the goal of the page is. Is it a sales page to promote an affiliate product; a lead capture page to capture subscribers; or a home page? Whatever you decide, I recommend that you keep it really simple for your first one, just to get “your feet wet”.

Now that you know what type of page you want, the easiest way to work out the sales copy, content, layout and design is to create it with a word processor first (like Word). This for me was the quickest and easiest way to come up with the design, to see what it would look like and to make changes as needed. Once I was happy with that I could proceed to the next step, which was to build the page with a web page editor.

Once again, I was restricted by the budget (as many people are) so to buy a web page editor was out of the question at this stage. But there are many different free options. I ended up going for FirstPage2006 by Evrsoft.com and downloaded that to my desktop. Once you have it downloaded, open it up and click on the Basic HTML Document button. At this stage I copied and pasted the text from my Word document to Notepad (to convert it all to plain text).

Then on FirstPage2006 (FP2006) go to file, click on convert text file to HTML, locate your Notepad document and click on open. That will open your Notepad document in FP2006 in HTML format. Now all you have to do is go through the content and modify the font types, sizes, colours, alignment and margins. This can be very tedious at first but keep going and you will get there. Just a tip: save your work every few minutes, as I found that I made many mistakes along the way before I was happy with the layout. I won’t go into all the features of the page editor because it will depend on which one you’ve got but keep playing around with it and you will learn quickly.

Have a good look around at other web sites to get ideas and to learn from them. Especially look at the ones that catch your eye and model your site on their’s (please note, don’t copy their work but you can model successful elements of the page). Good sales copy is beyond the scope of this article, but basically go for a big, bold headline (usually red looks good) and a sub-heading that conveys benefits and arouses curiosity. If you have a long sales letter, break that up with sub-headings that people can “scan” to keep them on the page. That also depends on what the goal of the web page is as well.

Once your page is finished it’s time to get a domain name, hosting for the site, and upload everything to your host. Your hosting company should have instructions on how to upload your site.

This is just the very start of things. You should consider getting extra training to enhance the basic skills that you’ve learnt and maybe upgrade your free editor as well to build better pages. Even so, you can still build professional looking pages with the bare minimum so just give it a try. Once you build that first web page, there will be no holding you back and the satisfaction and rewards are well worth it.
