Mommy Blogging: MERRY CHRISTMAS

It's been a busy week. Can't hardly believe it is nearly 2010.

First off, I have to tell you I have been having pre-labour pains.

Nothing to get alarmed about. As I described it, it feels like suddenly my belly contracts and gets smaller and it hurts when it happens. But it only has lasted about 30 seconds to a minute, then nothing again until the next day. So each day this week, a few times here or there, I get these experiences, and then nothing. However, my belly feels stretched to the limit, and my back is pretty fatigued.

Tuesday I had a lovely lunch with my 90 year old grandmother and my dad. She gave me my usual Christmas present - a card with cash in it. Got to love the simplicity. So after I ventured over to check out The Children's Place.

What deals. How can you pass up a dress or pants or a top for the kids when they are only $2.99. So I grabbed some stuff with my Christmas cash from Grandma... all of these pieces were only $2.99 each.

In my sorting of clothing that I have, I noted I had a lot of sleepers for when she comes home but not one outfit. So I searched the store for some 0-3M sizes. None really in the $2.99 section but I did find the two irresistible outfits pictured below, that were still really cheap considering... so these are Lydia Jane's two outfits. I want her to wear the pink suit home. :)

Great store, but the lineup to check out was killer. I almost didn't think I had the energy to tackle Walmart after but I needed milk, and a few little last thangs. So I ventured there and got the last bits of presents, and another stack of kitty food and litter, and such supplies. I think I have more pet food in the house than human food. HAHA Spent the evening wrapping presents and watching movies and nursing my elephant feet.

Bethany and Jason got into town, narrowly avoiding the airport fire in Prince George LOL. They came over on Wednesday, and Bethany gave me a gift for Lydia. Priceless... Duck Duck Moose. It was nice to visit with them.

After I popped into the Maternity Clinic for my check in, and everything seems fine. They told me that by week 39, they might try to encourage my labour by "stripping the membranes". Ah all these new terms and things I am learning. Sounds good to me, we'll see if I make it to week 39.

I'm 38 weeks this weekend.

Then Wednesday evening I dropped presents off at Matt & Holly's for the girls and visited with them all.

Thursday I joined my cousins Shanna and Kevin, and their boys, and my uncle, and we went to their church service. Sang lovely Christmas songs (and I marvelled at the amazing voice of one of their fellow church members). It is so hard to sing with this baby weight on my chest. Although Lydia Jane knows my voice, since I have sang all along during the pregnancy, and she was moving around a lot in my belly with all the singing. After was a lovely dinner at Shanna & Kevin's with their friends as well. I love hearing stories about people's children.

Best line of the night, was from Shanna's son Griffin - who will be 4 in the Spring - in the car on the way back to the house, he says to me, "Barbara, I have to tell you something. My mommy has been sneaking to your house." PRICELESS. Sorry he let the cat out of the bag Shanna, but it was priceless how he had to tell me. I appreciate your gifts and I will always remember Griffin telling me that.

So from the (no longer a) Mystery Santa, these were the final lovely gifts...

Today is the big turkey day. Off to spend it with my brother, father, mother, step-father, step-sister and my "silly" grandma. It should be a relaxed day, just food and company. That is really all we need. Family.

My two cats and I have enjoyed our endless naps and snuggles. I must admit, I am tired a lot, and napping has been wonderful. Waking up snuggled by these little love muffins is wonderful. They love having me around. I somehow think they sense something is about to change. I hope they will adjust well, I think they will. I have enough love for everyone.

Mommy Blogging: 37 Weeks & Ants in my Pants

Well the ants aren't in my pants, but I did find them in my bedroom. I lost it. In a fit of fury and rage I vacuumed them out of there and squashed them, and now I have set up a perimeter of Baby Powder, which they don't seem to cross. I have also left some tasty but deadly ant bait for them to feast on. AND FEASTING they are. DIE ANTS DIE.

[5th Day & 6th Day Mystery Santa Gifts]

After I'd calmed down, I spoke to my landlady and calmly explained that we don't need to be dealing ants at this time. She said she'd contact someone for advice, and see what they can do. I can't have them spray in my part of the house, but she could have them come inspect the outside and see if they can find their nest. I hope she does.

I think I lost it Sunday afternoon, more so because I had just spend the day cleaning. I had scrubbed my shower down, which meant crawling on all fours and washed the tub, sink and toilet, all back breaking. Then I rested and tackled vacuuming in the "den" area where the kitty litter box is. Then vacuumed my bedroom and discovered the ants. My back was killing me all ready and to have to get down on the floor again to kill these little mini terrorists... I was not a happy person.

In any case, them ants are not going to win.

[7th Day & 8th Day Mystery Santa Gifts]

So today is the first day of Winter. I'm doing laundry, and cleaning my drapes and curtains. I have white curtains and two black cats. Every time a kitty walks by a curtain, they leave black fur on them. Which over time creates this black fur smudge. Every couple of months I have to take the curtains down and wash them.

The other day I reorganized my clothing closet and the only other closet I have. By doing so I freed up enough drawer space in my dressers and shelf space in the 2nd closet in the den, that I was able to put away all Lydia Jane's clothing, and the crib bedding stuff. Everything is coming together.

The cats are loving me being home. Cuddles galore.

My dad accidentally kicked over the plastic tub of catnip on Thursday night after my niece's Christmas Concert. It spilled all over the cat's play rug so I didn't mind. Bear Cat has been lovely that, the other night I walked into the room to find him COVERED in cat nip and rolling wildly in the pile. I need to get another big fresh stash of cat nip for them. I didn't bother vacuuming it because he's having too much fun in it.

I have prepared my bags for the hospital. I think I have everything.

Saturday night was the lovely Holly's birthday dinner (her birthday was Thursday) and we went to a great place on the water front called The Washington Avenue Grill. After we had cheesecake and tea. Some damn fine cheesecake. I hope Holly had a lovely night, and big thanks to her for allowing me to share her night with her and her family.

In other news, Naomi had a lovely baby girl which they named Makayla, on Sunday the 20th. CONGRATS TO NAOMI and DAVE.

And I also found out on the weekend that my cousin Shanna is having a baby girl. As my mom says, it's a TRIPLE CROWN for the family. Now it will be my baby girl (Lydia Jane) born some time soon... then in March it will be my cousin Amber's baby girl (Mischa) and then in April/May Shanna's baby girl (Savannah Nicholle). TEA PARTIES!

Christmas is almost here. I only have 20 days left until my due date. Still no signs of labour on the horizon... yet.

Just waiting now.

Mommy Blogging: Maternity Leave

I am officially on Maternity Leave. I don't know what to do with my time, but I will enjoy it, while I can. I know once Lydia Jane arrives I will be busy so I might as well enjoy my time now.

I've been preparing the house as best as I can.

I have battled the ants. I have baits and they seemed to take them and I haven't seen an ant in 2 days, but I will keep at it, because I thought they'd gone last time too.

Every time I hit the store, I stock up on easy to cook meals for my freezer, and kitty supplies. I have a stash of diapers too.

I think I have most of what I need for her arrival... "think" is the word to note. Still need a change pad... breast pump (Holly?) and lord knows... I need to do a check over.

Since my grandmother can't give me that dresser after all, I have found a cheap alternative. Some plastic drawers, that I can just stack on the dressers I all ready have. I will buy those in the next days.

I need some space for her clothing, and crib blankets. My dad gave a little shelve/table for the bathroom, and that stores the baby bath goodies well enough for now. I've moved the feeding supplies into the kitchen area. Slowly but surely baby stuff is taking over. LOL As they do.

I need to sort her clothing, into sizes too... which I hope the plastic drawers will be good for.

Wednesday was my weekly check up at the Maternity clinic. The swab results from last week came back positive that I do have Group B streptococcus, or GBS, also known as group B strep. Group B strep infection is not a sexually transmitted disease (STD). It is one of many different bacteria that normally live in our bodies. Approximately one third of us "carry" GBS in our intestines without knowing. About 25% of women also have it in their vagina. Most don't know it's there, as it doesn't usually cause problems or symptoms. All it means though is that I have to be given antibiotics during labour. I'm not concerned.

My last day of work was Tuesday, and my boss and his lovely wife gave me a gift certificate to Babies R Us, now I have to go shopping. On Monday my boss and his lovely wife ALSO gave me a whack of baby clothing:

I truly am blessed. They are lending me a swinging chair as well. I know I said it all the time before, but I truly do love my work, and my boss rocks and so do my co-workers. I will miss spending my weeks there, but I will be back eventually. I'll visit too. I couldn't have a better situation.

I truly am blessed, not just with a great work environment but with great family and friends. Someone has been leaving me wonderful little presents, the first arrived on Sunday, and the card said "On the 1st day of Christmas Santa gave to me..." and I have been getting little presents every day since.

Also Wednesday night Holly's church delivered a "care package" to me, instead of the usual breads. It included a lovely turkey and fixings and foods, and a gift... a cute little piano for Lydia Jane. God bless them.

It's just a waiting game now. I'll keep "nesting" and waiting.

Friday night was the last time I will probably get to see the kitties at the Richmond Animal Protection Society. My last day of work was yesterday, and I doubt I'll have time to get back to visit before the baby arrives.

I spent Friday night just loving my cats. They have become like my cats. I also said bye to the lovely people too. Lisa gave me a cute gift for the baby. The people at RAPS truly are amazing. Just as amazing as the cats.

Don't miss the Holiday Food and Toy Drive at the Richmond Animal Shelter on THIS SATURDAY December 19th.

Join RAPS for a visit with Santa, some hot chocolate and spread some cheer amongst Richmond's animals.

Holiday Open House and Food & Supplies Drive at the Richmond Animal Shelter on Saturday, Dec. 19th.

This Saturday, Dec 19th, from 12:00 – 4:00 p.m., the Richmond Animal Protection Society (RAPS), operator of the Richmond Animal Shelter, is hosting a holiday open house. The public is invited to come share the spirit of the holiday season with some hot chocolate, holiday music and to pay a special visit with the shelter cats and rabbits.
In addition, RAPS is holding a Food and Supplies Drive to collect much needed donations of cat food and shelter supplies to run the City of Richmond Animal Shelter. The public is asked to drop off donations and join in the holiday gathering on Dec. 19th.

The public is invited to finish (or start!) their holiday shopping at the Richmond Animal Shelter through the "Shop to Save Lives" program this holiday season. RAPS Calendars, portraying rescued dogs, cats and rabbits, holiday dog and cat lover mugs, Cat Sanctuary gift cards, and printed holiday shopping bags are on sale to help support the work of the Richmond Animal Protection Society.

I have taken OVER 2000 photos of various cats at the Cat Sanctuary during 2009, and have loved getting to know many of the cats. I have collected the photos on my Flickr photo album, and continue the task of putting their names to their fuzzy faces. So far I have got over 200 cats individually named and their photos divided into individual photo sets.

Richmond Animal Protection Society (RAPS) is a registered charity that operates two shelters in the City of Richmond, British Columbia. The first shelter, on No. 6 Road in Richmond, is North America's largest cat sanctuary. At this shelter homeless and abandoned cats and kittens are rescued and cared for. Most of these beautiful animals would have otherwise faced starvation, injury, disease and an early death due to the many hazards in their environment. The cat sanctuary is currently home to more than 800 animals.

The second shelter is the City of Richmond Animal Shelter, which RAPS have operated since February 2007. In 2006, RAPS bid for and was awarded the city contract to take over operation of this shelter. By expanding to a second facility, RAPS now cares for a wider variety of animals including dogs, cats, rabbits and other small domestic animals.

In addition, the RAPS City Shelter runs a comprehensive adoption program to find the animals at this facility a safe and loving home.

Mommy Blogging: 36 Weeks & Ready

I think I am all ready for the arrival of Lydia Jane, as much as is possible that is. LOL I'm now 36 weeks. I think she's "dropped" as it feels as though she is lower in my tummy now. The heart burn is gone.

Thank you again to everyone who has given me gifts and hand me downs, or offered. I am sorry I haven't been able to get to visit everyone. I get pretty tuckered out these days. Although my boss claims I am a natural at this pregnancy stuff, because I have not seemed to suffer any pains, sickness or anything. I guess I have had a very easy pregnancy. Aside from the few extra cautionary items it has been pretty easy.

I think I have most of what I need, and can get the last little bits these next weeks. Bathroom is all re-arranged with new shelves, and baby supplies. Sorting out boxes and setting up the "den" storage area slowly. No rush.

I shall win the battle with the ants. Dad brought me some ant bait. Landlady is aware, and has grabbed some killing stuff for outside. Today she is having her carpets removed and hardwood installed, so it's been a lot of hammering on my ceiling. Good she's doing it now, rather than later. LOL

Visited my 90 year old grandmother today for lunch. Saw my dad and niece. Off to have dinner with my brother later. Life is good. 2 More full days of work and I am officially off for Maternity Leave. My niece's Christmas concert is the 17th, and so is Holly's birthday but we'll celebrate that on the 19th. Then it's Christmas! WOW time has flown by.

Mommy Blogging: 35 Weeks & The Final Countdown

Phew! Okay, this is my last full week of work. My last day of work will be the 15th. I've done all I can do, lists of how to do all the tasks I do, and the lovely ~~Australian~~ New Zealand lady that is temping for me while I am off on Paternity Leave is coming tomorrow to go over it all.

I had my Gestational Diabetes appointment this morning at 8:15. Oddly I haven't gained any weight since I was last there on Nov 20th. My numbers are great, no problems, no spikes, all healthy and good. So I don't have to go back for another check, although they do recommend I keep monitoring the levels on my own until the baby arrives, just to be safe. GREAT NEWS.

Wednesday afternoon I go back for my Maternity Clinic check up, and from here out it is weekly visits until Lydia Jane arrives.

On Saturday, my mom came with me, and I went and bought a great stroller. It's a Zooper Bolero, in black. It was on sale at TJ Kids for $150, the sticker in the store said it was regularly $350. It was on clearance sale because the 2010 models are coming soon. But I checked the reviews of it, and a video on YouTube of it, before I decided on this make & model. Every review seemed positive to me.

The stroller is suitable for children 1 months to 40 pounds (which is about age 3). So that is a good deal to me. It comes with a rain shield, a sun shade, and a sleeping bag for feet. It reclines. It holds my car seat. It seems to fold easy. It seems great. Thank you Grandma for giving me the money to get this stroller.

My landlady happened to be outside when I got home and carried it in for me. How good are the people surrounding me? I am blessed.

And call my crazy - but it seemed like someone changed the wipers on my car without my knowledge... and I have no idea who it was. I am positive they have been changed because they look different. Maybe I am losing my mind.

I then decided that night, on how to totally rearrange my home.

Nesting indeed.

So Sunday morning I went gungho. I moved the dinning table, over toward the livingroom area more, and opened up the corner area. Then dragged my computer desk into the corner and set it up there. It works. Now the "den" area is going to be a like large walk-in closet, for storing dressers and boxes of everything. I just have to move the photos / pictures and hang them in the living area. Then I need to clean up the "den" area and get that ready for storage needs. Probably stick a big dresser etc in there.

I also was considering moving the litter box for the cats into the bathroom, but given there is a heated floor in there, decided NOT. Can't imagine the smell of heated kitty waste. No thanks. Thus it will remain in the "den" area, which works now, with how I have decided to set that up.

Then I rearranged my bedroom. I took off the Queen mattress and swung my bed around against the far wall. Which opened up the side of my room, and that is where I moved the crib. This way her crib is parallel to my bed and we'll be close for sleeping.

I assembled the little vibrating bouncer. It looks great and I'm sure LJ have lots of hours bouncing in that chair. The reviews of that chair on Babies R Us were what made me want it, and I'm so thankful to Christina for getting it for me.

Speaking of gifts, Joanne (Lydia's biological aunt) sent me this adorable outfit for Lydia.

And on Friday night at the Richmond Animal Protection Society, Shannon gave me this adorable Lamase Elephant.

Sunday after all the furniture moving and bed linen washing, I drove over and had a lovely dinner with the family. I sorted through 8 boxes of clothing that my brother had saved. A lot of it is from 24 months sizes and up, which is fine, nice to know I have all that hand me down clothing. Some adorable shoes that looked barely used included. After dinner I was totally pooped though and went home to finish my laundry and hit the hay. It was a productive weekend.

All I need now are a few last items. A changing pad. A breast pump & some feeding stuffage. A few little things like nail clippers that I know I can get easy enough. I will look at what else I might need.

I also intend to pack my overnight bag this week, in prep for the big day. However... I have a feeling this kid is going to hang in me as long as she can. I would.

I am looking forward to spending the holidays relaxing. Ya, right.

I visited the Cat Sanctuary on Friday night, and when I arrived I noted the drainage project is well under way. Thanks again to everyone who supports the charity, and donates their time and money and auction goods, and sellable goods, and just plain usable goods to the animals. Without your support none of this would be available.

I first stopped in to the New AIDS FIV cat house, everyone was slumbering in the dark, and I woke them up. Lots of yawns and loves from the crew in there.

I dished out a few plates, and topped up dry food, got swatted on the hand by the moody Grizzy. Loved the usual suspects, Yoda, Lincoln, Lillix, Groucho, and Leonard. Gave Marmalade some extra loving as she had just returned from the hospital, with a cone on her head, because she'd had part of her tail amputated. Played "chase the laser" with Sweet Pea, Birdie and Franko. Feed the rabbits Amy & Tulip some carrots that I brought for them from home. Snuggled noses with Noelle and gave pets and love to lots of others. As I was leaving Shannon arrived and gave me a lovely present for my baby girl.

Next Friday is my last Friday at work and my last Friday (probably) at the Cat Sanctuary. I am sad I will not see these cats and these amazing people every week. I will probably miss them so much I'll waddle down to visit as many times I can fit in before the birth. I WILL MISS MY CATS SO SO MUCH.

Vancouver Foundation Makes Low-cost, Affordable Feline Fixing Possible By Christie Lagally

2009 was a record year for kittens. RAPS took in more than 100 cats from a barn in Richmond and more than 40% of them were kittens. In addition, we've had a record number of litters well into the fall and even into the winter! There have been so many kittens, that many of them didn't get adopted over the summer and fall. They are now growing into adults.

However, this year, thanks to a grant from the Vancouver Foundation, RAPS is delighted to announce affordable, low-cost feline spay / neuter services through RAPS' Great Richmond Catsnip. Low-cost surgeries are available for the general public and to those that qualify as low-income. Please see the RAPS website for more information.

Mommy Blogging: 34+ Weeks & Endless Lists

So I am now almost 35 weeks along. Only 5 weeks to go. Or maybe only 3 or 4... it's all up to Lydia Jane now. If she gets too cramped inside, due to those dang fibroid tumors, she'll come out earlier. So far so good though. When she moves it feels like she is doing somersaults inside me.

I've been getting excited, and feeling a "little" panic overwhelming me here or there but I think that is normal. I know it all has to do with me being a pigheaded independent stubborn woman. I need to learn how to ask for help, how to accept help, and know that in doing so I am not "failing" because I need help.

I think more so, I am excited. I can't wait to see Lydia Jane, to see her face, her eyes, her little nose and toes, her everything.

The 15th is my last day of work, and then I am off. I can't believe how fast time has gone by. I feel like I still have so much to do.

I hope everyone understands I can't afford to get much in the way of gifts this year as everything I have is going into this baby business.

I am checking my lists... not Santa's but my baby lists. According to various sites online, there are some basic items you should have when you bring your newborn baby home. Most of the following list is from Keepkidshealthy.com

5-7 undershirts or 'onesies'
3-4 stretch suits with feet
3-8 night gowns (with drawstring bottoms)
1-2 sweaters
1-2 hats
1-2 sets of baby washcloths and towels (hooded)
3-4 dozen newborn diapers (plus 3-4 waterproof pants)
4-6 receiving blankets
2-3 pairs of booties or socks
2 washable bibs
4-6 cotton diapers to use as burp rags
3-4 fitted sheets
2 quilted mattress pads
2-6 waterproof pads
2 crib blankets or comforters
1-2 blankets for the carriage or stroller

Feeding items you may need include:

12 4-8oz nursing bottles if formula feeding.
12 nipples if formula feeding.
1 set of bottle brush/nipple brushes
Breast pump if breast feeding

Other items you may need:

a pacifier if you choose to use one
1 infant car seat or convertible infant/toddler seat.
1 infant carrier
1 nasal suction bulb
thermometer
1 stroller, carriage or combination stroller/carriage
1 front pack or back pack to carry your baby until he is five to six months old.
1 diaper bag
1 calibrated spoon , medicine dropper or oral syringe for giving medicine

Furniture that you may need:

1 bassinet or cradle (or you may move directly to a crib)
1 crib, mattress and bumper set
2 sets of bedding for the crib
1 washtub
1 high chair with safety strap
1 playpen (optional)

I have almost everything. I don't know what those "night gowns (with drawstring bottoms)" are but I am sure I have everything I need. I grabbed a few boxes of old crib sheets/blankets etc that my brother had left over. There are also boxes of clothing to sort through this weekend.

I still have to get the stroller. Although I think I have the one I will get picked out. I don't feel a rush to get it, but I might go grab it this weekend. I can wait on the high chair, as she won't eat solids until about 6 months. I still have to get a few things like mittens, and nail clippers but these are easy enough to grab.

I know I had originally talked about getting some pregnant belly photos done, but frankly I can't afford such frivolous things. On top of that I really don't want my photos taken right now. I feel massive.

I've discussed plans with my mom, regarding having someone around during the first week after the birth. I think given that I am surrounded by friends and family, this will end up being a big TEAM effort. We've discussed pre-cooking meals and preparing easy things to do up. I will need help with the cats. But with everyone within 10-20 minutes drive away, if I need anything I am sure someone will be able to help. It is wonderful to know everyone is so close by, I just have to learn to swallow my stupid pride and ASK for that help that everyone is offering.

RAPS: Names of 900 Cats?

I visited the Cat Sanctuary last Sunday with my 10 year old niece and grabbed another round of photos. Every time I am there now, I feel a great sense of loss in the knowledge that soon I will not be able to see the kitties every week.

I didn't get to do my shift Friday night due to a doctor's appointment. I miss them cats.

I have absolutely positively LOVED spending just about EVERY FRIDAY night this year at the Cat Sanctuary with these adorable little balls of fur and love. It has been my pleasure to feed them, to clean up after them, and to get to know and love them.

They feel like they are MY cats. As a member of the society, my membership card proudly posted on my refrigerator, I will continue to support the charity, and when I can I will be back there to visit at the very least. The joy that place has brought me is priceless.

During my volunteer work at RAPS which started in January 2009, I have snapped nearly 2000 photos of the cats I see every week. Some kitties have more photos than others, simply because I see them more often or they happen to be easy to photograph.

Some cats are very hard to snap a picture of. There are a lot of feral cats, that run away from people, and getting a photo is not really possible. I also spend most of my shift inside the McCracken House, so most of the photos come from that section. There are many more sections with many more cats, but there is only so much time in a visit.

I've tried to learn as many names as I can. Considering the amount of cats at the Sanctuary (somewhere between 800-900) that is a task indeed. Thankfully putting a name on the photo really helps me learn who they are. Sadly though, there are so many I just don't know the names of.

At the time of this posting I have about 180 cats NAMED in my Flickr photo collection. Not bad considering. Please check them out. :)

[RIP Danny Boy]

Sadly on Wednesday we lost a sweet kitty to kitty heaven, named Danny Boy. He was unique for having 7 toes on each front foot. He was a favourite of Debbie's and she wrote a lovely tribute to him on Neko's RAPS Blog.

On December 19th we will be having a Toy & Food Drive at the shelter. It will run from 10am to 4pm and we will have a santa, hot chocolate, music, treats,and a big tree for all the gifts we receive! Also, if anyone knows of someone who has a santa suit and would be interested in being our Santa on Dec. 19th, please let me know!

Mommy Blogging: The Name "Lydia"

At the Baby Shower, I was asked where the name Lydia comes from.

Well, I first heard it in the movie Beetlejuice and feel in love with the name. I even named one of my cats Lydia (may she rest in peace) because I loved the name so much. I never counted on having a baby to name Lydia.

But upon further research while trying to decided 100% on the name I would give my daughter, I looked up the meanings and origins of all the potential names. This is what I learned.

LYDIA

Lydia of Thyatira was the first recorded convert to Christianity in Europe.

The Acts of the Apostles describes her as follows:

One who heard us was a woman named Lydia, from the city of Thyatira, a seller of purple, who was a worshipper of God. The Lord opened her heart to give heed to what was said by Paul. And when she was baptized, with her household, she besought us, saying, "If you have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come to my house and stay." And she prevailed upon us. (16:14-15 RSV)

The name, "Lydia", meaning "the Lydian woman", by which she was known indicates that she was from Lydia in Asia Minor. She was evidently a well-to-do agent of a purple-dye firm of Thyatira, a city southeast of Pergamum and approximately 40 miles inland, across the Aegean Sea from Athens.

Lydia insisted on giving hospitality to Saint Paul and his companions in Philippi. They stayed with her until their departure, through Amphipolis and Apollonia, to Thessalonica (Acts 16:40-17:1). In the liturgical calendar of saints of the Latin Rite Catholic Church in Greece she is called "Lydia of Philippi". Her feast is on August 3rd. She is also commemorated with Dorcas and Phoebe on January 27 in the Calendar of Saints of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and on October 25 in the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod.

It just seemed perfect to me.

Cat Paws Inn in Surrey, BC

I had to share this gem. I discovered this lovely magical place called The Cat Paws Inn, located in Surrey, BC.

Cat Paws Inn, is a state of the art facility built exclusively to offer luxury accommodations for the finicky feline in a park like setting.

No lie, this facility has 35 cat rooms to choose from, with some including access to be outside (although gated in). The entire building is built for kitty comfort with heated floors, and cat entertainment. If you have a fussy kitty and plan to be away on holiday and want your kitty to have a luxury time while you are away this cat hotel seems the place to be.

The web site provides rates, information on services, and lots of wonderful photos of their happy furry guests.

Cat Paws Inn is closed for maintenance Nov. 23rd to Dec. 7th, 2009.

Also, they are fully booked for the period of December 23rd to 29th, 2009.

But they take reservations, so if you need a place to care (pamper) your cat this looks like the place to take them.

They also give $1.00 per furry guest to the SPCA.

Mommy Blogging: Them Fibroid Tumors

LOL, Remember laughter is a great medicine. In fact it's at least 2 big tumors. So today I got to finally visit the Fibroid Doctor. He has an interesting accent too. My guess was South African.

So this is the gist. They can only see 2 fibroids on the ultrasound (not 3 like the July 10th ultrasound had shown), and they are almost the exact same size they were when I had my last ultrasound on August 20th. So good news is that they aren't growing anymore.

More good news, the specialist doesn't think they will be an issue, given their locations.

He said that given I am nearly 34 weeks now, that even if the fibroids caused me to go into labour early, we are all ready in the safety zone. Neither are located where they could interfere with giving birth naturally. The smaller on may or may not be in a position to be in the way if I require a C-section, but that is not a worry.

Also it is possible that I could run out of room, which could mean I could have the baby up to 3 weeks early, depends on me, depends on Lydia Jane. He reassured me that even if I did give birth earlier than the 40 weeks due date of January 10th, that that only means Lydia Jane will be smaller and even easier to give birth to, which I never really thought of as a bonus. LOL

So the basic gist is - ALL GOOD.

After the birth - he says the fibroids usually shrink back down in size, which I had read. He said it will be completely my decision as to whether or not I want to have them removed in the future. He said though, that he wouldn't even think of doing a surgery to remove them until at the very least 3 months after Lydia Jane's birth. He said I could come back at any time if I had questions, that I could to do another ultrasound at 3 months after the birth of Lydia Jane to see how the fibroids are.

Basically he very helpful and put my mind at ease.

He also gave me a photocopy of the ultrasound report, so I could see the details for myself.

When I arrived at the office, I was happily surprised to find my mom was there! THANKS MOM for the surprise. Afterward my mom and step-dad and I went to White Spot, all of us much relieved by the appointment and the good news.

MOMMY BLOGGING: This is not a Comedy

Some days primal screams and tears and cursing just help.

So yah, I took the day off of work today, because I "thought" I had an appointment to see the Fibroid Specialist this morning at 11:15 am. I was originally supposed to see this doctor on the 5th but I was sick with the flu and the appointment was rescheduled for me for today. I even have a lovely yellow slip with the details on it, which was given to me at my last maternity clinic appointment 2 weeks ago.

However, when I couldn't find the damn building, I called Peace Arch, and they gave me the telephone number for the specialist to get directions. Upon phoning there I was informed my mother was waiting there, BUT they DID NOT have an appointment for me, because it was cancelled. I said, my last appointment on the 5th was cancelled and rebooked for today...

To which the unfriendly lady on the line informed me, that Peace Arch Hospital had faxed their office a notice stating that I had delivered my baby and therefore did not need the appointment. So their office had erased my appointment and of course no one informed me.

So I swore, and explained that I'd taken the fucking day off for this appointment. My mother had taken the day off too. I called Peace Arch and let them know how pissed I was at the situation. I was put on hold while they "checked" what happened, but I hung up. Not going to waste cell phone minutes waiting for the gong show to figure out what the hell is happening. I drove over to the location of the specialist where my mom and step dad were waiting. My mom said the specialist had even showed her the "form" that was sent to the specialist. My mom had all ready given them a talking to. THANKS MOM.

But frankly it is Peace Arch Hospital to blame.

In tears at this point, the Peace Arch Hospital called me back to apologize although they didn't know how this happened. Also explained that the specialist could only see me tomorrow or Friday. So I went into the specialist's office to re-book the appointment. The receptionist was rude, explained how important and busy the specialist is and there was nothing she could do. Her negative bitch attitude certainly didn't help the situation.

At least the ladies at Peace Arch Hospital were calm and apologetic with soften voices.

So I booked another appointment for Friday at 3:30PM but as I was doing so, the rude receptionist at the Fibroid Specialist asked about ultrasounds, and I informed her the last one I had was on August 20th. She looked annoyed.

I went with my mom and step dad, to visit my grandmother and have lunch. Which was nice, a bit of tea and griping helped. Plus my grandmother gave me another gift, money to buy a stroller. THANKS GRANDMA.

Then I had to drive over to Peace Arch for my 1:10 PM maternity check up. They could tell who I was by my mood. They apologized again and again, and said they have no idea who was responsible or how it all happened. I did my weigh in and such and waited... by 1:45 I finally saw the doctor.

This time is was not the doctor I normally have seen. This woman actually took time to discuss my file. Showed me my info on the fibroids, and even poked around my tummy to tell me that Lydia Jane is now head down, and yup, I have 3 possibly 4 fibroids that she could "feel" just poking me. At which point she asked, if I had had a recent ultrasound?

Ummm not.

She said that was strange, that when I was referred to the fibroid specialist in September the normal doctor I see should have arranged an ultrasound to investigate the fibroid tumors at that stage. She said, maybe that doctor thought the specialist would order the ultrasound? Passing the buck? Not likely. So she said she would arrange an ultrasound as soon as possible.

All seemed good otherwise, and I booked my next Maternity Clinic check up in two weeks.

I drove home and found some lovely COBS BREAD on my door handle waiting for me. I truly appreciate that Holly's lovely church are bringing me lovely bread every week. I could use some faith right now.

I love coming home to find things like that, it improves the mood. Like yesterday when I got home there was a package from Christina in TO, from Babies R Us. Another package of Baby Shower items... a lovely amazing BOUNCER and that alligator toy I noted I would eventually want to get. THANKS CHRISTINA.

A moment after I got in the door, I noted my phone was beeping with a message. So I checked. The Maternity Clinic wanted me to come back to the hospital for an ultrasound at 3:15. So I guzzled some water and drove back to the hospital.

In all honesty though I think I am just exhausted. I spent the morning before the "non-existent" appointment, tracing the location that some lovely little ants are coming into my suite. Saturday morning I noted the little buggers, they'd found a bowl of cat food in front of the fireplace. Which was my feeding spot for the cats the last while, as they enjoy chilling by the fire and I enjoy spoiling them. So over the last days I've moved the location of the food, and hoped they'd move on. However this morning, the little ants had discovered the food dished in the kitchen. So that was it, this meant WAR.

So imagine, pregnant me crawling around squishing ants, and tracing their trail back to the location in the wall they are coming in through. Not an easy task - I tell ya. I think it was as I was attempting to get off the floor for the umpteenth time, that my nerves cracked. I am alone. Over the last few days it had been sinking in, that I am fending for myself and it is getting really hard to do things that normally - normally my stubborn independent do it yourself attitude would have no problem doing alone. I'm tired. I'm slow and I've lost my ability to retain my short term memory. I'm wigging out inside, and after locating the ant access, and putting down Borax to kill the fuckers, I realized I had forgot to take out the trash. So I put the bag outside - which I forgot about after I'd showered and dressed. Which meant I left the bag of trash outside the back door.

But I headed out the door to what I thought would be a relief.

I really have a lot of questions and unknowns due to these fibroid tumors and I was really looking forward to finally getting to speak to the specialist. When they informed me of the "mistake" and the cancelled appointment... I wigged out on the outside.

I have no shame that I was crying in the specialist's office, and I explained to my mom, that I am just feeling pretty alone and uncertain if I can handle this alone.

When I came back home, after the phone message, and being told to come back to the hospital for the ultrasound - I recalled the bag of trash I forgot I had put outside. I looked outside to see crows had ripped it all apart. So I put on the rubber gloves, and cleaned up the trash, in the rain. Then left to have the ultrasound.

I got to see Lydia Jane on the ultrasound, and that calmed my mood.

As you can see it's been a helluva day. I put on my jammies when I got home and just cuddled the cats.

I'm so emotionally drained right now. I only want to eat a tub of ice cream and cry, which I also admit, I have done a few times today. I guess I just need to get it out. Maybe I just need a bath and to go to bed early tonight.

MOMMY BLOGGING: Storkcraft Crib Recall

Storkcraft (Richmond, BC based crib manufacturer) has issued a "recall" for their cribs with slide down sides.

This recall involves Stork Craft drop-side cribs and Stork Craft drop-side cribs with the Fisher-Price logo. This recall does not involve any cribs that do not have a drop-side. This recall does not involve any cribs with metal rod drop-side hardware. It involves only those cribs with plastic trigger and one-hand-system drop-side hardware.

The crib I have is one.

Read Health Canada's Issued Warning.

The cribs, produced by the Richmond, B.C.-based company Stork Craft Manufacturing Inc., are blamed in four suffocation deaths of babies in the United States.

The U.S. commission is urging North American parents to immediately stop using the recalled cribs until they receive a repair kit from Stork Craft that converts the drop-side on these cribs to a fixed side.

I am not however going to FREAK OUT or PANIC.

Crib owners should contact Stork directly for a repair kit that converts the sides into fixed positions.

What to Do: Contact Stork Craft toll-free at (877) 274-0277 anytime to order the free repair kit, or visit www.storkcraft.com.

Frankly, I don't see the sense in bothering to drive (or get delivered) the "free repair kit" as I can easily get my drill, zoom zoom, insert a few long bolts and nuts, and boom, that sucker is totally secured. In fact I can get my father to do it, he is a retired engineer, I think he knows how to make something like a crib side secure.

The U.S. commission said the death in Texas occurred in a crib in which the drop side was installed upside down. The agency also said it's aware of two other incidents in Simplicity drop-side cribs using older hardware when the drop side was correctly installed.

In August 2008, a separate North American-wide recall of Simplicity 3-in-1 and 4-in-1 convertible bassinets affected more than 46,800 products sold in Canada.

In the United States, at least 13 babies have died in recalled Simplicity cribs and bassinets, according to the U.S. commission.

No deaths have been reported in Canada, although Health Canada reported a "near-miss" incident in a recalled Simplicity bassinet involving a 10-week-old infant.

I read about the Simplicity recalls earlier this year, and was well aware of the "risk" involved in "drop-side" cribs. Again, to me it is easy enough to just fix the side, by drilling it on permanent like the other side is.

More than 5 million cribs have been recalled in the last two years, according to the CPSC, compared to roughly 1.2 million strollers over the same period, about 80 percent of those coming 2 weeks ago with the recall of 1 million Maclaren strollers.

As of 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, the Stork Craft website had crashed.

Of the 5 million "drop-side style cribs" sold - I think for the most part they have been safe, although sadly in the 4 cases a child was trapped/suffocated and died, I still think there is no need to panic. Just fix the side, so it can't detach.

Mommy Blogging: 33 Weeks & 1 Baby Shower

My cousins Shanna and Amber threw me an amazing baby shower on Saturday.

Incidentally, Shanna is 17 weeks pregnant, and Amber is 6 months pregnant. So yah, bumper crop of little ones for the family in the new year. LOL

With everyday that passes by I am reminded more and more just how blessed I am. The people that surround me, my family and friends are truly amazing. I love them all and couldn't ask for better people in my universe.

Shower games: taste test the baby food, guess the baby items in the brown bags, and guess how big my belly is! LOL

After the baby shower my 10 year old niece and I drove Astra back to the Skytrain, headed to Rogers, bought 3 old 80s movies, The Princess Bride, Willow and Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure. We grabbed a pizza and cuddled up in our jammies and watched movies. Then this morning we had breakfast and chilled, then headed to the RAPS Cat Sanctuary for some kitty loves. More photos from that visit to come.

Also wanted to just thank Holly (one more time) for getting her church to include me in the bread delivery. Pat came by last Tuesday evening to meet me and deliver me some bread from Cobs. Pat's husband was the one that married Holly & Matt, and she was such a lovely lady, and blessed my baby and prayed for a health easy delivery. From her lips to the universe's ears, let's hope it is an easy delivery.

Only 7 weeks (if that) to go.

The Pub Night for RAPS @ Legends in Richmond, that was held on Friday night, was a big success. Debbie told me that they raised about $3000 for the Cat Sanctuary. THANK YOU TO EVERYONE that bought tickets, and supported the cause.

Wish I could have been there but prego me isn't up for such events.

Plus I was at the Cat Sanctuary, during that incredible thunderstorm, and down pour. Some of the kitties react pretty funny to the weather.

As I get closer to my baby's arrival my time at RAPS is coming to an end (for the time being) but I hope to continue on as a member of the society, by promoting their charity in anyway I can.

I have taken nearly 2000 photos of various cats at the Cat Sanctuary during 2009, and have loved getting to know many of the cats. I have collected the photos on my Flickr photo album, and continue the task of putting names to fuzzy faces. So far I have over 100 cats individually named and their photos divided into individual photo sets... so far.

I am getting them all put together best I can, and big thanks to those at RAPS that have helped me put names on all the faces. I plan to create a big list here for you to check out... "plan" being the key word.

Mommy Blogging: Nearly No Socks

Okay, so I have to ask, are my boobs BIG enough?

I would really like to breast feed, and yes, my boobs have gotten bigger, but they seemed to have plateaued, and don't seem to be expanding anymore. I don't know if this is normal, and I fully expected them to just keep expanding - like everything else is. So really does size reflect the ability to make milk? I read it doesn't.

I read also, that my breast size would stabilize during the 6th-8th month time frame, and that my milk jugs will expand right after birth, that the birth will trigger the machines to get a-going and to expect them to "engorge" at that time. So I am hoping that I am worrying about nothing.

I haven't bothered to buy "nursing bras" yet. I need to now, and have found some helpful info on sizing from Breastfeedingwear.com. Considering my pre-motherhood boobie-holders were a 36B - and I am still able to barely use some of my old bras, I think I'm more like 38C now... so yah. I guess I should measure and go get some tit-slings. There's another $100.

On the subject of once in a life time clothing expenses, I live in my $25 maternity jeans, but I am at the point where I am finding it nearly impossible to get my socks on. I almost didn't wear socks today. Does anyone have any tips on how to deal with that? Seriously, it is coming up to winter and rain is pretty much in the forecast for every day. I have a $20 pair of shoes I got that slip on, which I wear all the time too, but I need socks to keep my feeties warm. My yoga moves on the bed in the morning while getting dressed just keep getting harder.

My belly is expanding major now. I can feel the tightness on the skin and the pressure as I am expanding. My heartburn comes and goes and the pressure on my stomach is pushed to the limit. That baseball-sized fibroid that sits on the top of my uterus sometimes sticks out like a 3rd boob, and it is pushing on my tummy too. Oh the burps and farts, that make pregnancy soooo attractive.

22 years of sex and honestly I don't know, how long is the longest I've gone without sex, and even though being pregnant surely doesn't make me feel sexy, still... 6+ months of no sex now and I admit - I could use a cuddle. A back rub? Foot massage... oh what I wouldn't give for a foot massage. No I'm not desperate but human contact is necessary for all beings and I'm starting to seriously notice that it is missing. *sigh*

When I think about how long it will be before I ever find that "connection" again, and I am able to have that human contact again... *sigh*

Oh well, Lydia Jane is worth it.

I'm worth it. I know that I'll never settle for the types of men I've fallen for before. I accepted too much, I tolerated, I tried to fix, I bent myself out of sorts to make a square fit into a circle. I can't do that now. I won't do that ever again. So I have hope that when it is time again, when my heart has healed completely, and I am ready again, I will find someone that is worth the wait.

I was reading Evan Marc Katz blog, and came across this article of his called "Why Do Men Cheat?" which references an interesting study from Psychology Today that concludes that Monogamy is very much a choice. Mr. Katz writes:

"It’s easy to find someone else you’re attracted to; it’s really hard to find someone who loves you for all that you are.

THAT’s what keeps men monogamous – not the silly idea that we’ll be so attracted to one woman that we’ll never have eyes for another."

DAMN if that doesn't nail it on the head.

I have hope. I know there are good men out there, and then there are Guyland guys. I'm done with Guyland guys. I have hope that in my future I will find myself a real man to love, to cuddle, and to give me foot massages. In the meantime, I will be happy with my head full of hope and being a wonderful mommy. Which is the greatest gift from the universe - ever.

Now if I can only continue to get my socks on - I'll be fine.

MOMMY BLOGGING: 32 Weeks & 8 To Go

So I am now 32 weeks along, and only 8 weeks until the due date of January 10th. However as I have noted it could be earlier, depending on the fibroid space issue. I go on the 25th to see the doctor about the fibroid tumors, the biggest sucker that is on top of my uterus sure is big and sticks out of my tummy. On some mornings depending how I lay on my side or back, it almost looks like a third smaller breast LOL

You have to laugh. Laughter is key.

Time is flying by though, and I am getting pretty excited about meeting my little darling. My step dad has guessed that Lydia Jane will be born Jan 14 at 2:22. LOL I think she'll be here earlier given the fibroids... but who knows, only she does.

Anyone else want to guess her time of arrival?

My dad took me out on Sunday and he bought me a car seat. This seat by Graco will hold Lydia Jane up to 30 lbs and 32" tall. It is a bigger seat, weighs 9.8 lbs without the kid in it, but heck I could use the arm exercise.

I also came to the conclusion that - in the new year - I will need to get a more practical "Mommy Car". I know I was thinking of a 4 door sedan, but in fact, as *gasp* shocking as this sounds to me, I think I will get a mini van.

It just seems the most sensible thing. When I have been looking at what I could afford, they are in the price range. I also note, that with a child comes a lot of "stuff" to carry around. The more space in the vehicle the better, the more easier it is to get in and out of the vehicle the better. Those side sliding doors on the mini vans are looking pretty attractive to me LOL.

So that is plan. Mini Van. LOL Who'd have thunk it!

This weekend is my baby shower. I am not doing some BIG thing about it, just a few good friends and family. After that I will go out and grab up what I still need. If anyone out there cares, I am registered at Babies R Us online.

Also, a few days ago, on the weekend, I had a long talk - in person - with Lydia Jane's biological father.

[He also fixed my car so it doesn't squeal anymore. Which I much appreciate.]

He asked if I would be willing to provide a paternity test to prove he is indeed the father. I agreed. I am 100% certain, so if he needs that proof I understand why. Men can never be sure can they? However I will not pay for it. I think that is fair. He needs the proof - he can pay for it. Like I said, I know 100% Lydia Jane is his, because I know that since September 22 2006 when we met, I was never with any other man.

I'm not into having meaningless sex with meaningless people.

In any case, I am glad to put the past behind us. I am over it all.

I explained that he (and his extended family) can be a part of her life, if he wants to know her. I don't need "support" from him and will never seek it. I am not vindictive and know full well he has nothing to give anyway. I am lucky that I am able to do this alone, as hard is it might be, I always have the support of family - and my friends that are like my family.

If he isn't ready to be a part of Lydia Jane's world, he will have no pressure from me at all. He can walk away and never be involved, if he so chooses. I will never speak badly of him to her. Plainly, I know he never loved me, we certainly didn't work as a couple because he wasn't "into" the relationship, he was miserable with me, sucks to admit but there is nothing more to say about it. He can go live his life, and he doesn't have to care about Lydia Jane. If that is his choice, that is his choice.

In the end he always has time to decide. If he isn't sure now, or when she is born, he can decide later on if he wants to meet her and know her. I know as she gets older she will have questions about who her father is, and she will be naturally curious, and I am prepared to deal with whatever the situation is.

And frankly - who knows - by the time she is old enough to ask those questions I may have all ready met someone... and she might have no need for all that... there are so many possibilities in the next 4-5 years. Time is on my side.

In any case am not going to carry around that past anymore. I am truly sorry I was so angered and hurt by him, BUT I think it was acceptable and normal to be - under the circumstances. This time I've had without contact gave me time to heal. I have truly moved on. Seeing him in person really made that clear to me, and I am glad I got that settled for me. He is yesterday.

I am only thinking of today and tomorrow... yesterday is long gone.

My only priority is my daughter.

She is my today, she is my tomorrow. She is my everything.

RAPS: Adoptable Pets & Christmas is Coming

RAPS has a lot of different animals up for adoption. The cats, dogs and various other fuzz balls like bunnies, that are currently up for adoption at the No. 5 Shelter can always be found listed on the PETFINDER website.

Please consider adopting an adult animal that needs a loving home.

I'd like to take this opportunity to talk about pet adoption, with Christmas coming up, I know a lot of folks like to adopt new pets for gifts. Although it is wonderful to give an animal a home, remember that Christmas time is a stressful hectic busy time and a new animal will be stressed enough by the changes to his or her world enough without the added maddness of Christmas.

If you do plan to adopt an animal at Christmas, plan to do so before or after the big day. Give the animal lots of time to adjust to the "normal" household activities. During holiday parties it is better to leave dogs and cats locked in a safe room with food/water, litter box, and a favorite toy AWAY from the comings and goings of endless guests.

Speaking of the upcoming holidays, there are a lot of hazards that pets, and cats in particular can get into around the upcoming Christmas holidays.

Since adopting cats in to my life and home 15 years ago, I educated myself on the hazardous items to kitties at Christmas.

A few Holiday Items to Beware of:

TINSEL & RIBBONS: Cats that ingest the ribbon or tinsel can develop a foreign body. This type of foreign body may cause the intestine to fold on itself like an accordion, this in turn causes a lack of circulation to parts of the intestine. If the intestine starts to die due to lack of circulation then the cat may need part of the bowel surgically removed. Foreign bodies generally require surgery to remove them, it is better to try to avoid this traumatic surgery. If cats are in the home it is recommended to not use tinsel or ribbon as part of the holiday decorations. Foreign body symptoms include but are not limited too; vomiting and lethargy. Cats that have ingested ribbons or tinsel should be seen by a veterinarian immediately.

PLANTS like poinsettia, mistletoe, and holly - can make a pet sick if eaten due to their toxicity to animals. If your animal has vomiting and diarrhea, seek a vet as soon as possible. Keep these plants out of your home, if possible, or put them out of "munching" reach of your pets.

LIVE CHRISTMAS TREES often come with a fertilized watering base, which if your pet drinks could make them very ill. As well cats might want to climb a real tree (or chew on it - think kitty barfing up pine needles all over) and you can imagine the mess you'd find if kitty got into the tree and knocked it down, tangling lights, smashing bulbs and decorations...

11:11 = 12 Years

Today is my Blog Anniversary. 12 years ago I started a web site. I was separated, heading for divorce, had just moved into a townhouse that I bought, living all alone with 4 fat cats. I was creative writing and wanted to make a web site to showcase my creative side.

12 years later... and my oh my what a journey. What stories I lived... What memories haunt me... I still see 11:11 everywhere. I know those angels are still with me - watching over me. I know I am blessed with this child, this gift of life that I thought I could never have.

I had my Maternity Clinic check up today. Pee in a cup, weigh myself... wait. Blood pressure, measure the tummy, listen to the heart beat... see you in 2 weeks.

I am not feeling super today. After the check up I came home and ate a peanut butter sandwich, and snuggled up with the cats and fell asleep for a few hours. I guess the pressure of the baby and the massive fibroid on the top of my uterus are pushing on my stomach and causing bad heart burn these last weeks. I feel yucky.

I think having a big cry and getting all emotional Tuesday night didn't help. Emotionally I am feeling in a funk now.

I keep a lot of what I am processing all in my head, and dang it when friends get me to open up. It drained me. I know people understand what I am feeling and it is all normal, but still... I don't talk much about the nights I cry myself to sleep alone. I make sure I put on the happy face, because I am truly happy and no one needs to know all the heart breaking pain I am suffering inside alone. It is my burden, mine alone, and my cross to bare.

Don't get me wrong, I am so excited that it is only 60 days or less until Lydia Jane arrives in my life and I get to hold her and love her, but there are so many other emotional things that her arrival is also triggering in me. Stuff I didn't count on feeling and dealing with. Stuff I don't want to get into here, but that is mentally wearing on me as the time draws closer to her arrival.

Add all the other things that my family are going through into the mix, things which I don't talk about here either, and there is a lot of emotional garbage floating around.

I just try to focus on the positive, and on the things I can deal with. I can't fix the problems. I can't make people be things they aren't. All I can do is focus on the happy bits as best I can. My baby shower is coming up on the 21st. My dad and I are going car seat shopping this weekend.

However, my car is still squealing, and I'm fed up with it but I just don't have the time to deal with it, or to think about getting a "mommy car". As much as everyone is here for me... I have been feeling overwhelmingly alone these last few weeks. Being sick sure didn't help. This lingering sniffle and cough, are wearing my nerves.

I am just plainly and simply - totally tired right now.

Mommy Blogging: 31 Weeks & Pink Ladybirds

Okay, I went to work on Thursday and Friday because I was going stircrazy, and it is JUST A FLU. My boss was cool with it, and agreed with me, a flu is a flu.

The paranoia over H1N1 is pretty fucked up.

I have never been a "inject" myself with flu vaccine type of person. I hardly take over the counter "medicines" either. Doctors are more "guessers" than anything really. When I get sick, I take care of myself. Normally if I have a fever I sweat it out. FEVER is the best thing for your body. It is your body's way of killing the bad things growing in you.

The only reason I stopped my fever this time was because I know fevers are dangerous to the baby. Otherwise, I did what I always do when I get sick... rode it out. I'm still congested, and have a cough to hack up small bits of gunk from my chest. Really though, if I weren't sick I feel amazing.

On Friday I skipped my shift at the RAPS Cat Sanctuary. I just didn't think I would have the energy and good thing.

Instead I swung into Sears in Richmond to pick up my order. My crib mattress arrived, as did my Ladybird crib bedding and the Fisher Price Whale Tub. I got home up packed the crib and bedding and put it together. OH MY GAWD it is the most adorable thing ever. Lydia Jane is going to love her bed. I love her bed.

Today I've washed my bedding - after a week of being sick on my ass, I need CLEAN things. Kitties both left me hair balls this morning. LOL I did what I could but tried to not wear myself down. Fresh air is a blessing though. Windows open. Dishwasher ran, rugs washed now... floors swept and mopped. Dusted. Moved the living room around. Time to make the bed with the fresh sheets... Life is good.

After, I will sit in front of the TV while dinner cooks, and watch Lydia Jane moving around in my belly. It is the most amazing thing to watch her rippling my belly and bumping around in there. I can't wait to meet her. I am so in love with this little girl all ready... I can't imagine how I could love her more but every day I do.

I have been sick all week, and even though I slugged it through work Thursday and Friday, I am exhausted, and suffering sinus congestion and a nasty chest cough still. Sadly, I felt it best, for my health, to not go to RAPS tonight. I MISS THE KITTIES SO MUCH.

But I wanted to remind everyone out there the kitties are there year round, day after day, just looking for loves. If you can help in any capacity... they would love it, as would the Members of the Richmond Animal Protection Society. Members like me... so THANK YOU.

RAPS has many beautiful, loving older cats that need long term foster care. Many of these animals simply need some tender care, and RAPS will pay for the veterinarian costs, while they stay with you.
