And what a BAD first kiss it was!
At the age of 14, Kelly and I went with our out-of-school (and therefore, quite a bit older) construction-worker boyfriends to see MY boyfriend in his motorcycle race. It's been a while since I've posted a question here! It's just SUCH work to get people to respond and I was just worn out. :) But I hope lots of people respond to this one. So here's how you come up with your stipper name: Think back to your childhood...Whatever your pet's name was (pick ONE!), that will be your first name. Ok, now what was the first street you lived on? That's your last name.
So for me, Lula (my beloved Collie who I use to sing to!) Chattington. That's it. Lulu Chattington. But I can clearly remember the first single I bought and it was "Kung Foo Fighting" In fact, just writing that NOW brought back such great memories that I just went to iTunes intending to buy it, but alas...NO "Kung Foo Fighting" What kind of world are we living in???

I also remember buying "Oh What a Lonely Boy" by Andrew Gold. Those two songs were played over, and over and OVER on my little turn table!

I don't remember for sure what my first full length album to buy was, but I know these were some of them:
Heart - Dog and Butterfly
Journey- Escape
Linda Ronstadt- Living in the USA
I LOVED the size of albums. The artwork was so cool to look at. But the big disadvantage was that if you didn't stack them right, they'd warp. And if you weren't good about putting them back in their sleeve, they got scratched. But, all in all, I miss albums. I miss Sound Warehouse. Downloading songs at iTunes just isn't the same.

What's Your Favorite Age To BE?

Don't be boring and answer with "The age I am" unless you really, seriously mean it!!!

I will say for me...31. I didn't want to be too hasty. So instead of setting several resolutions that feel like I'm setting myself up for failure, I'm just going with an overall theme word for the year that I KNOW will improve my life. And here it is:

COURAGE

Maybe by stating it here, we will feel even more inspired to live our year as we've envisioned.

What's The Best Christmas Gift You've Ever Recieved?

As a kid, I received tons of great gifts each Christmas that it's hard to choose ONE.
It's easier to remember gifts I've received during adulthood. So:

My brother takes the proverbial cake on gift giving! He is outragously generous. And I know he loves the giving as much as I love the getting. A few Christmases ago when my laptop computer was new, he got me this really groovy hot pink computer bag. Of course, it wasn't really meant for a computer- None of those would've ever appealed to me. Or him. But even greater than the pink bag was the note attached that said: "Pack your bags 'cause I'm taking you on a trip to MAUI for my birthday in February"... For HIS birthday he took ME to Maui!!!! We had the BEST time- We always do when we're together. I think that's a gift he may never top! And I'd feel pretty guilty if he did.

What's Your Favorite Christmas Song

I tend to mainly just like the sad sounding Christmas songs. I'm not talking simple houses. I'm talking mansions and cathedrals. My dad would literally be working on his blueprints in November. And even tho I said we did it Christmas EVE, it officially started Christmas Eve MORNING and continued for hours, and hours and hours. We had deadlines to be finished by 8pm. Then we had some friend's come over and do judging. Mom and Dad had a great place under the stairs to display not only that years houses, but past years winners! It was a big deal in our family.

Mom made the icing. The icing was the glue that held our houses together. And yes, it ends up, this was most definitely a metaphor...Mom was the glue in a whole lot of ways.

Now, making those Gingerbread Houses just doesn't seem to feel right. We haven't even talked about them. I think it's a subject we just don't approach because we know the glue is the most important thing. I just don't want to make the house with out HER glue!

But I know family traditions are important, and we've decided to try some new ones this year. So I'm trying to come up with some good ideas... Please share yours!!!

THANK YOU!

What's The Best Halloween Candy to Hand Out?

I'm here to help out all the little ghosts and goblins out there that will being trick or treating Tuesday night. I'm pretty sure I'm neither. I think I would like to take naps here and there for about 3 hours each dispersed over the course of the 24 hour period that someone decided to refer to as day and night.

I HATE getting up early. When I use to be a teacher I got up before 6am and that is probably a big reason I ended up changing jobs after only 6 or 7 years. But, I also don't like to be out late, which is not so conducive to being a musician, being that I refuse to play after 11pm!

I've read about this idea of napping just whenever you feel like it. You're body will get what it needs, when it needs it. I'm considering testing it out. This is what I do know: Naps are best taken in pajamas. I tried that out a few weeks ago and it was magic. I put on my pajames at 2:30 in the afternoon. My friend's little 3 year old does it, and it just sounded like the right thing to do. And I'm pretty sure it was!!! A nap is most restful in the proper attire.

So I don't have an answer, YET. But my quick answer is "lots of naps".

What is your favorite Mexican food restaurant?

I have a friend that grew up in Michigan and she told me growing up she always thought Mexican Food was like the food at Taco Bell. OH MY. I guess that's one great thing about living in Dallas...Lots of great Mexican food restaurants!!!

Everyone has their own favorite place- what's yours?

Lately, one of my favorites is Mariano's...it's a block from my house, it's got briscuit tacos, and they give you a hole punching card and once you get punched for M-A-R-I-A-N-O-'-S you get a free entree. And I like sitting on their patio. And their chips are thin and their hot sauce isn't too spicey. And they have somehow found all the gay Mexican waiters of Dallas and put them in that location!!! OLE!

Favorite Summer Vacation?

It's that time of year, so I have to pose the question.

Usually, I love a summer beach vacation. This post is being written at 5am, I've been up for a couple of hours. Here's what I'VE done:

1. Checked my blood sugar. Lots of times, I find that it's low and that's why I can't sleep. When that's the case, I just get some sugar in me and I'm back to bed sleeping soundly within a matter of minutes. Ok, but that's not the problem this time.

2. Did some writing.

3. Ate some oatmeal. Isn't something warm suppose to help you sleep?

4. Surfed around and read other people's blogs. Totally fun, but didn't lull me to sleep. At all.

5. Well, I guess it WAS a frenzy, but now I'm just trying to maintain the clearness. One of the many ways I cut down on extra "stuff" that I don't need, is I let most of my magazines subscriptions run out. Goodbye to US and Redbook; so long to People, Playboy (for the interviews!!!) and a few others. But there were a few I just couldn't part with. My favorite magazine is "Performing Songwriter". Each month I look forward to finding it in my mailbox. It has interviews with singer/songwriters that I always gain insight from and love to read. And the thing I like about it the most is the cd reviews. I have "discovered" so many great artists because of those reviews. Because these days, I'm not much of a fan of the radio- Not a fan AT ALL. Performing Songwriter is my favorite magazine. Never a waste of time. And it's definitely NOT clutter.

What's your dream job?

Last night I went to the Metropolitan Winds performance at the Meyerson. It was great...They played selections from movie scores. Gary Cogil, the movie reviewer, was the MC. He mentioned that in his "job" he sees about 400 movies a year. I bought their "Greatest Hits" cd a few years ago when my brother and I were in Maui. We had a cd player in our jeep, but no cds. We agreed we each needed to buy a cd we didn't already own, but that we could sing along to. Oddly, Hall and Oates popped into my head. We walked into WalMart and there it was, a double cd of their greatest hits, on sale for $10.

Initially I thought we'd just laugh at the cheesiness. And we did. But the more we listened to Daryl, the more of a genius we realized he was. WHAT a voice! And such catchy songs. "She's Gone", "You Make My Dreams Come True", "Maneater", "Sara Smile", and the list just goes on and on and on. Now I don't just think they're cheesy. I LOVE them. And not just the old stuff. They have new stuff, and it's good too. Daryl Rocks. He is ALL the talent.

We went and saw them in concert not too long ago at Nokia- Daryl has a huge mane of hair and still sounds great and he's right around 60 years old! He LOVES to sing. After singing certain songs he'd say "Man! That sounded good!" And he was so right...
