If you want to get technical they are not allowed to receive gifts from customers. Gratuity is a big NO NO. I did how ever give my UPS driver a Christmas card. She gave me a UPS calendar.=o) Cards are always safe gifts are not necessary.

my dad is a mail carrier and people have always given him gifts. they range from nice tins of mixed nuts, to envelopes of money to large baskets of muffins/cookies.

it also helps if the person is nice. my dad is friendly with the people on his route. he'll stop and chat, joke with the kids and will even go out of his way to do small things like bring the trash cans up for some of the older residents or give doggy treats to the pets on his route.

if your ups driver is a dick and expects a gift, then he doesn't deserve one.

It's me the stranger again. I gave my UPS driver some chocolates. Cheap gift, but I figured it was just a small token of my appreciation. My UPS driver is great, and during the holiday rush his son helped him deliver packages. How cute is that. I gave my mailman a nicer gift, since he saves my butt all the time. That said, I don't think it is necessary to give gifts to these service people, particularly if they are snotty. Maybe you could give your snarky UPS guy whatever nobody wants from your gift baskets?
