plato updates

Alternate translations of letters I, IV and V, and the dialogues Rival Lovers and Axiochus have been added to the Plato section.

With this, every work of Plato's except "Definitions" is now available online.

new job / recent server problems & upcoming content

I've got a new job at a computing company in Manchester, so unfortunately I'll have a lot less time to update this site from now on, barring some vast increase in traffic here. There will still be updates, they will just arrive less frequently than they have done over the past few months.

There have recently been some server problems with the site hosting, and I've been unable to update for the past few weeks. As of today everything should be working again, so several updates of content and revisions prepared since then will be added soon.

plato's sisyphus

As part of the recent series of updates adding previously unavailable works and alternate translations to existing sections of the site, Plato's dialogue Sisyphus has been placed online.

plato's "on justice" and "demodocus"

Just a quick update to say that the Plato section of the site has been updated, and now contains two texts that were previously unavailable, "on justice" and "demodocus".

These and the other new texts added to the site over the last two days have not yet been proofread, but this will be done over the next few days, so if you notice any errors I'd be grateful if you could post a comment here or send an e-mail.

plato & epicurus

As part of the updates mentioned in the previous post, another set of alternate translations and new writings have been added to existing sections of the site.

Firstly, Plato's work On Virtue and alternate translations by Glenn Morrow of letters nine, ten, eleven and twelve have been placed online.

Second, an alternate translation, by Robert Hicks, of Epicurus' Principal Doctrines has been placed online.

As detailed in the aforementioned post, many more alternate translations and new works are to be uploaded over the next few weeks, including significant updates to the Ralph Waldo Emerson section and additional works being added to the Aristotle and Plato sections of the site.

friedrich nietzsche

The Nietzsche section of the site has been updated, including a second translation of The Birth of Tragedy, his polemic On the Genealogy of Morals and ten new letters from 1888 related to The Case of Wagner.

The Thomas Paine section of the site has been placed back online and now contains the ten volume 1920 edition of the his life and works, including letters, biographies and appreciations.

diogenes and zeno of citium

Two new sections have been added to the site today, detailing the lives and ideas of Diogenes of Sinope and Zeno of Citium. Although none of their writings survived to the present day, detailed biographies are available as part of Diogenes Laërtius’ “The Lives and Opinions of the Eminent Philosophers”, and anecdotes are found in the writings of their students.

epicurus

Several areas of the site have been updated and I'm clearing up the design of all the current sections. The Montaigne section of the site has an improved design and the site has a new section on the works of Epicurus.

The Epicurus section contains all of the surviving fragments, letters and documents of Epicurus, and contains a biography composed by Diogenes Laertius, the most detailed biographical summary available of Epicurus' life and work.

That's all for now, but another new section of the site detailing the works of Plotinus should be ready soon. When it is I'll post an update here.

site problems fixed & general news

Hi all!
One of the servers that hosts part of the content for this site went offline today, and as a consequence, many of the background images disappeared temporarily. I've quickly done all I can to fix the problem, and hopefully everything should be back to normal again now, but if anyone notices anything amiss or any links that do not work correctly I'd appreciate if you could e-mail me, or leave a note in the forums.

Bandwidth usage on the site has increased dramatically over the past month due to many referrals from other websites and social networking directories online like StumbleUpon & del.icio.us which is brilliant, unfortunately this means the site will eventually have to move servers again at some point over the next few months. I will of course leave a note here in advance if there is any scheduled downtime.

I haven't been able to update the site as much as I'd have liked to over the past few months as I've been working on other projects, some of which will be hosted on this domain, and another web design project for a clothing company, Irresistible. The Irresistible site is now online at:

There are still a few creases to iron out here and there (worst pun ever! :) sorry), but the site is online and fully functional. The site was designed by me, and the payment processing section was built by another web design firm, i4ce. The site sells lingerie, loungewear & gifts and will be selling swimwear next season, so have a look if you're interested.

Two other web projects I've been working on will be placed online on this domain over the next few months, and I will update here when they are complete. In addition this site has a bright future with many more content sections in progress and updates to be completed on the existing ones, including the works of Arthur Schopenhauer & religious texts related to Alchemy, Zoroastrianism, Buddhism and Gnosticism.

over the past week i've been creating discussion forums for the site, and have just placed them online. i have designed a number of different templates for the forums and placed them online, and have tested the site forums, but if you notice any problems, please contact me or post a message in the 'feedback and suggestions' section.

as mentioned in earlier updates, there is more content for the site on its way, but i don't have the time to add it for a few weeks until i am finished on the other project i'm working on.

new hosting - recreating the site.

hi all,
just a note to say that i've finally moved the site to a new server, and am moving all the old content across now. unfortunately, the move from a windows server to one on linux means i will have to rework the scripting for all the pages that formerly used asp to php, which will take a few days.

from the user's point of view this means that many of the bookmarks or weblinks made to the site will no longer work properly, but its an unavoidable problem. where you may have had a bookmark listed as, for example

it will now be changed to
