TheGuy and TheGirl had TheBaby this week. Alexander is happy and healthy and very cute, which is rare as most newborns look like Asian Alien Hybrids. TheGuy will start him playing Warhammer soon, 'which a simplified version of the rules' for the first few years :P

RIP Gary Gygax

I have confirmed reports the Gary Gygax passed away in his sleep last night as the result of an "inoperable stomach aneurysm."

This is going to go up on the "BethBlog" today, our companies blog that tracks the development of Fallout 3 and other games I contribute to:

"Jeff Gardiner, Producer: I got into D&D about the time video games were invented. I was 6 years old, and my best friend and I (David Beal,) ‘borrowed’ his big brother’s red Basic D&D book. That moment started a 10 year odyssey that allowed me to develop most of my skills as a video game Designer/Producer; on top of gracing me with several life long friends. Gary Gygax created something unique in the world to which every game today should tip their hat. My office and work is crammed full of Dungeon Modules, worn hardback 2nd Edition D&D books, and Dragon magazines I just can’t seem to part with. For me, and icon died today. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends."

Without a post. I haven't been wargaming much this month, and the back quarter of the year looks pretty dark. Planing on playing some Hordes in a couple of weeks and hopefully a 500 point WFB throwdown next week.

Lots of new High Elf rumors and pictures circulating - most of the stuff looks decent - but no new troops? Whaaa? I'm not a big fan of the current rank and file - and not that I need another army but this just nixed any thoughts of collecting them for me.

Lots of neat figures and whining about about the release of the new Chaos Space Marine Codex. Of all the things to get worked up over, a $20 add on pack to a little known wargame?

They came out rather crappy. Needed more low-angle shots, but also needed some kind of backdrop to make them look good. Next time I'll try to remember a piece of black foamcore.

Wolfmother. Great name, great band. Black Sabbath crashed into White Stripes while channeling The Doors and subletting Jimmy Page. Shockingly good album. While they fall short on a few songs, I've been waiting for an album of this type for years. It's rock and roll, reminiscent of a time when rock and roll was raw, real, and something worth listening too. These guys are worth listening too.

Icky Thump. White Stripes. I'm a White Stripes fan, and I hate their fans. But I like their music. Just downloaded it. Payed 11 buck for DRM crap... I should start stealing music like the rest of the known world.

Black Gobbo Now Sucks

It's official, black gobbo has gone from one of the most informative hobby article webzines out there to utter shit.

Issue 94 is here, and each of it's 5 articles sucks in unique ways:

The main article on the LV GT is just a link to information already posted on the site.
The building painting article is 2 paragraphs of crap, with 3 pictures of a painted building. No instructions, no paints used, no building ideas, nothing.
The Dwarf painting article has a few paragraphs, but again it's very basic, and poorly formatted.
Then there's an article with pictures of the dwarf sprues. Quite an article, that one. Again, no building ideas, conversion ideas, nothing. Just pictures of the sprues. Like I didn't see those 3 months ago on Dakka.
The painting arcane Ruins is just pure gold. One page, 3 steps about dry brushing. Unreal.

While I think WD has gotten better, they may as well kill BG as they're clearly not supporting it any longer. It's a shame, when it was first released it had some of the most detailed hobby articles I'd ever seen.
