It has a picture of a sample ballot on some crazy futuristic voting device on which some hypothetical Orange Couny voter has already filled out his choices for the upcoming election. They are:

President -- Abraham Lincoln
United States Senator -- Frederick Douglass
Governor -- Cesar Chavez
Attorney General -- Alex Haley*

Oh man! What a dream team! Our hypothetical voter not only bridges time and space (as far as I know, only Cesar Chavez actually LIVED in California) but is so confident in his selections for those four offices that he hasn't even bothered to vote for County Judge or Proposition 1, leaving them blank with "No Selections."
I am so stoked about voting now!

*I did not know who this man was, so I looked him up. Apparently he served in the Coast Guard for 20 years, including during WWII, interviewed many notable personages for Playboy Magazine and wrote the book Roots, which basically means he would be the best Attorney General ever!!

Aaronhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16056026388181044082noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23941025.post-1147675135454913372006-05-14T23:32:00.000-07:002006-05-14T23:38:55.463-07:00ANTI-SLAVERY ALPHABETIt may not show between all of the fight scenes, but a lot of research goes into writing George Washington and the Revolutions of America. History is fascinating, and The Internet makes it easy to get a lot of view points very quickly. It's actually a lot harder to process than just getting knowledge from a text book or something. I wonder what life will be like when all our brains are linked together via the Internet. Hmm... will the robots have won by then?
Anyway, that's not the point. The point is that sometimes I find some really neat historical documents, like this, a children's alphabet book with a decidely political bend. Observe:

A is an Abolitionist—
A man who wants to free
The wretched slave—and give to all
An equal liberty.

B is a Brother with a skin
Of somewhat darker hue,
But in our Heavenly Father's sight,
He is as dear as you.

C is the Cotton-field, to which
This injured brother's driven,
When, as the white-man's slave, he toils,
From early morn till even.

....

X is for Xerxes, famed of yore;
A warrior stern was he
He fought with swords; let truth and love
Our only weapons be.

Y is for Youth—the time for all
Bravely to war with sin;
And think not it can ever be
Too early to begin.

Z is a Zealous man, sincere,
Faithful, and just, and true;
An earnest pleader for the slave—
Will you not be so too?

More sweet primary documents can be found at the Antislavery Literature Project.

Aaronhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16056026388181044082noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23941025.post-1147244010448089292006-05-09T23:44:00.000-07:002006-05-09T23:53:30.460-07:00BaconopolisSo last night the power adapter that connects my laptop to the wall started sizzling. It sounded like bacon. Except it's not bacon, it's electronical equipment, and you can't even eat it. But it was hot, sort of like bacon. I was quite worried. Things might have been better if it smelled like bacon. That would have been nice! Who doesn't like the smell of bacon in the morning? I wonder if smells can be kosher. I hope so! Otherwise a lot of people would be missing out, olfactorywise. or something.
Anyway, it DIDN'T smell like bacon, it smelled like CRAP MY COMPUTER WILL EXPLODE, and I think ozone as well.
So I unplugged it.
Now I am afraid to plug it back in.
Fortunately, I have nice roommates who will loan me their computers in times of crisis, but I guess I really need to get a new power cable or something. Can you do that? Should I just buy a new computer??
So many questions.
so many questions.
Anyway, despite technical difficulties here at Bravery and Honor's southern base, the comic will continue unabated. That's how dedicated we are!! In fact, things are starting to sizzle in the story more than ever before.
So there's a lot of sizzling going on.

Aaronhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16056026388181044082noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23941025.post-1147096987475338872006-05-08T06:57:00.000-07:002006-05-08T07:03:07.476-07:00Velcome to your doooomAvast!
