I have lots of zinnia and marygolds. The vines I planted on the panel next to the deck are running wild, but nothing there is blooming except the roses. They are yellow roses. When Helen was here she said she did not like yellow roses. I have 4 yellow roses now and I don't much like them either. When they bloom, the bloom looks very pretty the first day. Then it fades to a pale off white color. Red and pink roses keep their true color much better than the yellow.

Fletahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03555954801472686586noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23701167.post-64280063926406819982009-07-03T21:00:00.003-05:002009-07-03T21:12:40.470-05:00Road Work

Lane helped Grandpa work on the driveway by driving the tractor back from the creek.

They would haul the tractor down to the creek, get a load of gravel. Look, See, Sneed. Winnie needs to get her eyes checked.

I went on Ancestry.com and found several census records and a couple of Missouri death certificates for him. I uploaded these images here.

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~powell/Sneed/

To view the images, you click on the underlined link and the image will load. Click the back button on your browser to go back and look at a different image.

Missouri death certificates can be found online here:

http://www.sos.mo.gov/archives/resources/deathcertificates/

For many of the certificates, you can actually get the actual certificate. You can type in the surname Sneed and choose Franklin County in the drop down box and they have I think 4 or 5 results (James, Amanda, Collie and I think some still born children). James and Amanda list their parents. Collie died single at age 32. It lists his parents with their middle names, James Nicholas Sneed and Sarah Elizabeth Maupin.

On the 1850 census, James Sneed is already in Franklin Co. MO living with Joseph Gibson and his wife Nancy. In 1850, no relationship is listed, but remember in 1880 Jefferson Sneed is with Nancy Gibson and it says he is her nephew. James and Jefferson are on the same page of the census so they were living close together.
The LDS site is here
http://www.familysearch.org/eng/default.asp

Everytihng here is free.

Source Information:

Census Place
Lyon, Franklin, Missouri

Family History Library Film
1254686

NA Film Number
T9-0686

Page Number
148B
Household:
Name
Relation
Marital Status
Gender
Race
Age
Birthplace
Occupation
Father's Birthplace
Mother's Birthplace
Jas N. (Missouri Hist. Rev., Oct. 1925, p 125)"St. John's Township - Jack Maupin started a powder mill about 1812 .. . from the War of 1812, while his brother Daniel manufactured guns as demands were made, and was in his day one of the best gunsmiths west of the Allegheny Mts. The former was so injured from an explosion of his powder works that he died a few hours after the accident." (Atlas Map of Franklin Co., Mo., 187, p. 16)"John Maupin, son of Mosias, was killed by the explosion of a powder mill and Benjamin Brown came very near losing his life by the same accident. John Maupin's children were John, Amos, Wilkinson, Daniel and two daughters one of whom married James Heatherly and the other William McDonald.""This powder mill was probably about Newport, now Dundee, 61 mi. west of St. Louis. (Franklin Co. was part of St. Louis Co. until Dec. 11, 1818, and Gasconade Co. was taken from Franklin Co., Nov. 25, 1820) " (History of Franklin Co., 1888, p 223)______________From Lois Seed:John’s mother was Leah Downey and there is some speculation that John was Leah’s illegitimate son prior to her marriage to Mosias Maupin. [ also see below] I think there is still some work that needs to be done still on that line. There may be other reasons why Leah and Mosias’s marriage date seems to be after John’s birth date: prior marriage? incorrect dates? We don’t know. Leah has also been known as Leah Sol as well as Leah Downey over the years. Things are murky in that generation. There is ample information about Mosias and his siblings and Maupin ancestors readily available on the web, but it goes back to French Huguenots who immigrated in 1700 and settled in Williamsburg.______________From Lois Seed:John may have been an illegitimate son of Leah Downey prior to her marriage to Mosias MAUPIN, or possibly from an earlier unknown marriage. Mosias may have adopted John. Tax record in KY that states he "paid taxes for his wife's son"

That should get Mike started.

Fletahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03555954801472686586noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23701167.post-13971920614861368572009-06-29T16:12:00.002-05:002009-06-29T16:26:42.769-05:00The School Boy

Robert goes to shcool Wednesday. I think I can get some squash next week.

Today was the nicest day we have had in a long time. It is 85 at 4 pm.

Patsy's pink rose has one small pink bloom on it. I am sure it is going to survive now.

My many flowers and herbs look like a jungle, but I do not have many blooms.

Son Jr. and family were down today. They worked on Emmy's go cart and got it to going. I am afraid it is on its last leg. The drive it for 15 minutes and it sets needing repair for weeks. Lane says he is getting so old he does not know how old he is. That makes me feel really old. I am 4.5 times as old as Lane. He is a good boy, but do not tell him that.

Fletahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03555954801472686586noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23701167.post-5520615944431157132009-06-26T19:10:00.003-05:002009-06-26T19:14:11.929-05:00Robert, the big boy

We took Robert to Springdale for an evaluation yesterday. I know you are supposed to not let them make the first year, but I did anyway. I have 7 peaches on this one tree. The other peach and the 2 apples did not bloom this year, or at least did not set fruit. This one is named June Gold so they are almost ripe. I hope brother does not come down and eat them while I am at work this week. They are really pretty. I paid $90 for the 4 trees, so that is about $15 per peach. I guess if they live for 20 years, the price per peach will be a better bargain.

Fletahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03555954801472686586noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23701167.post-35277763175317469652009-06-15T19:34:00.002-05:002009-06-15T19:45:00.893-05:00Finding GeorgeSince George had his accident last year, I tried to keep track of where he is on the tractor. Today after I got home, he left on the tractor to do some brush hog work. I did not ask exactly where he was going as I can hear the tractor from the yard no matter where he is on our place.

After he was gone about an hour, I went outside and noticed I could not hear the tractor. I looked around and did not see him or the tractor. He had the neighbor's brush hog hooked up, so I thought maybe he was down at Franks. I walked up to Clayton's just to talk. I guess Clayton was asleep because the TV was blaring but he did not answer the door.

As I walked back I thought I heard the tractor and brush hog down the hill towards Frank's place so when I came to our driveway, I went on down the road to see. I did not hear or see anything so I walked over towards the pond by our side of the road. Still no tractor, no George. Finally I decided to just go back to the house and forget it. As I walked toward the house I noticed a tractor parked by the shop, but it did not have a brush hog on it. I looked it over, but could not really tell if it was George's tractor or one Kenneth had over here doing the hay. I walked in the house and saw no sign of George. Now I was really confused. Where was George, and was that his tractor in the yard?

I went into the bedroom. Then I heard voices coming from the other end of the house. Now, what was this. George was sitting on the couch watching TV.

While I was walking down the road looking for him, he was parking the tractor in the yard. He had taken the neighbor's brush hog home and returned while I was up at Clayton's. I don't know when he came in the house, but when I came in he had to be in here on the computer. He never reads the blogs, so he will never even know he was lost.

Fletahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03555954801472686586noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23701167.post-48853946767497133702009-06-14T20:45:00.002-05:002009-06-14T20:53:22.918-05:00happy birthday Betty

I tried to call you this evening but you must not have been home. I may call you then.

When I tried to call you on my cell phone it said calling Betty Renfore, Happy Birthday! I thought that was odd. I looked at your listing in my phone and it asked for all this information and I have put in your birthday. Yours was the first number entered so I guess I was seeing how it worked. Maybe.

Helen wanted to go see Patsy and Barb today, but I have to go to the DR and then to therapy so she decided to walk. She was going to stop by brothers and see if he was busy hoping he would take her. I suggested she call him first, but she said when then got here from the airport he did not even slow down when passing by his house and then when he got here to our house he honked for someone to come out and get her. He was sorta out of luck there because there was only the crip and BIL here. Crip did not here them honk and BIL can not do things without planing 2 days in advance. No one told him brother might want help getting the 2 tons of luggage out of the truck so he remained in place playing cards on the computer. When I realized they were here, I told him he had company and had to come into the living room or he would have stayed playing cards for another hour. So, because of that experience, Sister Helen did not want to warn brother Clayton that she was coming by expecting a ride because she was sure he would already be gone on some false errand by the time she got to his house.

Tonight, Gilbert is coming by and Friday we are going to go to Erin's for lunch. Not sure what we will do tomorrow.

Betty, you need to call tonight as Helen did not understand before that Laura would not get to come up at all. Helen is now looking for a ride to Laura's house. I told her me and George or Clayton would take her, but she is looking for something more certain. Call tonight and we will see what arrangements we need to make.

Helen looks great and is feeling very good. We stayed up till midnight last night, so I am thinking I will need to go to bed a dark thirty tonight.

Oh, yes, and my knee is much better.

Fletahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03555954801472686586noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23701167.post-34198392278510761592009-05-23T09:51:00.002-05:002009-05-23T10:05:09.191-05:00This week in history

This is my fridge after I cleaned it early in the week. That is all the cleaning I have gotten done for the company coming and may be all I get done. George has vaccumed for me. Monday at work I did fine, but Tuesday and Wednesday my knee was killing me. I went to work Thursday but did not do much and did not go in Friday. Yesterday, the knee was still giving me lots of trouble. I went to Walmart and used one of their scooters to shop. Last night around midnight, the knee finally stopped aching. Today it is stiff but not aching. I am thinking it may be the physical therapy that was making it hurt so badly. I do not have to go back till next Tuesday. I am taking it easy today. The house is going to be dirtier than ever casue the babies and their Daddy are here. Son Jr. is wanting to borrow some wheels (we have 3 trucks and 2 drivers). I offered to trade the blue ford for a clean house. I think he is going to rent a truck from someone who wants only money.

This is what you look like when Grandma puts sunscreen all over you and you fall face down in the dirt.

The boy in his carharts.

The pool, the chairs, the beach towels and the sunglasses.

Cool!!!

Fletahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03555954801472686586noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23701167.post-26896165237087462822009-05-15T17:57:00.005-05:002009-05-15T18:14:31.309-05:00For Richard

I went out today and put fresh arrangements on the graves. I don't think I am supposed to unwrap it, but I did. The bandage is a large ace bandage with a Velcro closing strip on one end. I have two of these now. They said I can wash them and reuse them. I plan on washing them and giving them to Patsy when I am done with them.

Now for the heart thingy. I came in to make a post and did not have a new picture to post. I thought I would take a picture of the leg and bandage. I could not find my camera anywhere. Then I remembered leaving it on the deck railing yesterday while I walked around the yard. It has been raining for about 3 hours off and on. Enough to ruin a camera. It was not on the deck. It was right by my computer. I am blind.

Anyway, I went to therapy today and guess who was the therapists? Rusty Hooten. For those not in the know, Rusty is married to Tracy Powell, Frankie's daughter. I asked about everyone. Tracy is working for a dentist in Harrison and they have two daughters. Now, after getting home, I am not sure Tracy and Rusty are still married, but I think they are. Patsy, you need to call Daisy and find out. Tell her he is my therapists and then just ask if he is still married to Tracy. There was something about the way he responded when I asked how many children he had that made me wonder.

He said Daisy was liking work at Tyson much better now that she had gotten a few paychecks. Linda, Daisy's other daughter, is working at the Ford place in Harrison. Jimmy and Stella are both working at a Walmart somewhere in Springfield. I did not ask about Stella's daughters or about Frankie.

The knee does not hurt much, but my calf muscles on that leg really ached today. Rusty said that was from hobbling around on that leg instead of putting the weight on the leg like you normally would. He did not say to not hobble but I tried not to after that. It did not work out so well, so I took two pain pills and now I can walk more normally.

Patsy will get the used bandages, but there probably will not be any pain pills left.

Fletahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03555954801472686586noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23701167.post-90593139539752612572009-05-11T20:48:00.002-05:002009-05-11T21:04:15.274-05:00Monday

This is Patsy's pink rose. I got these in August of last year. They are called Knockout and were on clearance at wally world because it was so late in the season. I wish I have bought another 3 or 4 of them. The yellow climber I bought this spring has started to bloom. I bought 4 this spring. Three are doing good and one I think is not going to make it. I am going to look for a replacement tomorrow.

I went for my physical therapy today. My Knee already feels better than it did before the surgery. I can put weight on it without it hurting. I am walking somewhat stiff legged, but I can bend it pretty easily if I do not have weight on it. I go back to the Dr. Thursday. So far, so good.

Fletahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03555954801472686586noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23701167.post-54231027670209435102009-05-09T17:41:00.003-05:002009-05-09T17:48:56.057-05:00More flowers

This is one of the two purple iris I got from Patsy's yard.

I really like these plants because they are no trouble to take care of and they are pretty plants even after they bloom.
