It was not until I heard Jesse talking about the song during an interview that I realized it was about New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. We asked him to tell us about the video and here's what he had to say:

I met Naama at Palacinka Cafe in Soho, where she was a waitress. It used to be my neighborhood cafe before closing just this past January. One day she told me that she was a film student at the New School and wanted to make a video of my song "How Could It Take So Long?" Why not? When we met to discuss her idea, she said she had been seeking old Super 8 films online that she would use to cut back and forth between them and me, in the present. My father had recently passed away and it so happened that I had just re-discovered a trove of a Super 8's which he made and labeled meticulously from 1969-1980. When I told this to Naama, her eyes nearly popped out and she said, "I have to have them!" She transferred all of the films to digital, taking up 6 DVDs worth of space, and picked out the footage. In the end, the video may not have much to do with my original idea of the lyrics, which I wrote from the point of view of someone stuck inside the Super Dome in New Orleans after Katrina, but somehow it captures the feeling of the song and suggests a meaning that perhaps I did not even intend; besides, what inspires a song is often not what it ends up being about. It's an understatement, I'm sure, to say that my father would be pleased to know that these films are being used and that, in some way, however small, he has made his mark as a filmmaker. - Jesse HarrisBob Andrewshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13972305868290413813noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2368753940318587550.post-21132571740974015702008-03-10T22:44:00.004-05:002008-03-11T00:40:39.872-05:00Undertow at SXSW 2008Please stop by and say hello if you are in Austin this week.

Aaron Robinson
Undertow Showcase 3/13 - Habana Calle Patio 6 [8:00 pm]

Anders Parker
SXSW Showcase 3/15 - St David's Episcopal Church [11:00 pm]

Caleb Engstrom
Undertow Showcase 3/13 - Habana Calle Patio 6 [8:45 pm]

Centro-Matic
Misra Records Showcase 3/12 - Friends [1:00 am]

Christian Kiefer
Undertow Showcase 3/13 - Habana Calle Patio 6 [12:15 am]

David Bazan
Twangfest / KDHX Party 3/13 - Jovita's [2:00 pm]
Hotfreaks Party 3/15 - The Mohawk (inside) [3:30 pm]
Barsuk Showcase 3/15 - Maggie Mae's Patio [8:00 pm]

The Drams
Beerland 3/11
Mother Egan's / Guitartown Party 3/12
Club DeVille / New West Party 3/13
18th floor Hilton / SXSW showcase 3/13

Glossary
Undertow Showcase 3/13 - Habana Calle Patio 6 [10:15 pm]

J. It's been 6 years since the full band came over - but with a new album, 'The Panic Bell', out and doing well we figured the time is right. For this tour we are a quartet: Me, Diane, Mark and Mike with songs new and old (get your requests ready), 2 guitars, bass, percussion, 4 part harmony, and some surprises. We REALLY hope you can make it to one of these very special shows!

OCTOBER
19 (F) and 20 (Sa): Lamlash, Isle of Arran, Aldersyde Hotel - 9pm
21 (Su): Edinburgh, Pleasance Bar - 8pm
22 (M): Leeds, The New Roscoe (with Hummingbird) - 8pm
24 (W): London, Electro Acoustic Club at The Slaughtered Lamb - 8pm
25 (Th): Swansea, The Chattery - 8pm
26 (F): Newport, Hot Burrito at Le Pub
27 (Sa): Buckingham Tingewick Village Hall - 7pm
28 (Su): Nottingham The Maze (Forest Tavern) - 7:30pm
31 (W) Palma, Mallorca, Seu d'ARCA - 9pm

www.dollyvarden.comBob Andrewshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13972305868290413813noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2368753940318587550.post-75128453792819590382007-10-02T12:56:00.000-05:002007-11-25T22:52:02.354-06:00New Glossary record = free download!Starting today, Glossary's latest record, Better Angels Of Our Nature is available for FREE via the band's website. A limited-run, beautifully hand-printed CD package will be available on October 23 at shows and from the Undertow Store. Spread the word!!!

www.glossary.usBob Andrewshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13972305868290413813noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2368753940318587550.post-75764309004486729872007-09-28T23:44:00.000-05:002007-11-29T21:19:30.103-06:00Centro-matic at CMJ...
